Yes, you’ll never guess who I sat next to on a plane to Dallas today.
Steve Trombley! You know, CEO of Planned Parenthood Chicago and Aurora Steve Trombley. What a major hoot. I neared my seat and saw him and couldn’t believe it. He had a window exit seat and I had the aisle, with no one between us. I caught his eye, and I think he recognized me as someone, just not sure who.
So I said, “Steve Trombley?” And he said, “Yes?” And I said, “Jill Stanek.” And he’s like, “Ohh.” And that was the end of that conversation. He donned earphones after we took off and watched a movie on a handheld device the entire trip….
I tried to strike a conversation when we got drinks. I tapped him on the arm, and he lifted his earphone, and I asked, “So are you going to Dallas for business or pleasure?” He answered, “Business,” and put his earphones back on.
All I could do was sit there and pray for this poor man. Certainly, our seating arrangement was not by accident, but I’ll not know what this run-in was about until I reach the other side.
As we disembarked I said, “Well, Steve, I’ll see you in the papers.” And he answered, “Yes, maybe so,” or something like that.
Still shaking my head.
I just googled Steve’s name to see what PP might be up to in TX this weekend and found this, which I missed, in the Springfield Journal-Register, February 8:
The state’s five Planned Parenthood affiliates… Springfield, Decatur, Champaign, Peoria and Chicago… will merge into one Chicago-based affiliate called Planned Parenthood of Illinois….
CEO positions at the current affiliates will be eliminated, and the CEO of the Chicago-area affiliate,Steve Trombley, will become chief executive of the new statewide organization….
Trombley earned $260,414 in the fiscal year ending in June 2006, according to the Chicago-area affiliate’s most recent IRS Form 990….
[Judith] Barringer, who has led the Springfield affiliate for 15 years, said money saved by the merger also will be used to help Planned Parenthood clinics afford the rising costs of birth control pills and employee salaries.

Well it is true. I recently just learned I now have to pay a $20.00 copay for my birth control pills that I use to treat my PCOS. It’s a $50.00 prescription and my insurance covers just over half.

The pill helps cure endometriosis which is NOT an STD it is not sexually transmitted it is something that just happens like cancer. It is very, very, very painful and can lead to infertility. Next to surgery I think the pill is the only way to cure it. But who cares about women? I started the pill two years before I was sexually active because I had massively debilitating cramps that made me miss school and generally took over my life for a few days each month. But I probably deserved it seeing as my Mom has had sex out of wedlock.

Pregnancy helped – which I hear from a lot of people helped them too. Now I pop a few Aleve (which I guess is the same thing in non-perscription strength) and I’m good to go.

It worked like a charm for me and cleared up my skin which was a welcomed side effect. I remember being paralyzed from the waist down because of mine. When I had to miss my last freshman/sophomore invitational for track that was the last straw.

Sometimes our children are our greatest teachers….there is hope.
As followers of Christ one of the hardest things for us to learn is how to separate the sin from the sinner, and look at people through a heart of forgiveness and love. It’s easy to know it in our heads, but so much harder to truly love our neighbors in our hearts.
As a father, Steve has children, and though he believes he’s doing right, he must at some point realize that life is incredibly precious. During the long hours of the night he’ll wonder about his legacy – about making a better world for his grandchildren and he’ll wonder if his own children aborted his grandchildren, and what their lives would have been. What kind of love they never were able to show to him. The missed joy because one of his own grandchildren decided to treat them as a mistake instead of a gift.
What does it all matter, why does he do if ultimately the goal is to provide a better world for the coming generations?

TR and others with similar views want to SHUT DOWN the public debate about abortion. They don’t wish to know the truth nor do they want women to find out the reality of abortion. When you debate someone, the idea is to examine various perspectives of an issue and determine the truth or validity of them. TRUTH – ahh, something anti-lifers are VERY afraid of.
The Pro-Choice Action Network out of Vancouver BC will NOT debate prolifers. Why?
According to their website:
1. The right to abortion is not debatable, because access to legal, safe abortion is a fundamental human right, one that is protected by law and supported by the majority of citizens. The provision of basic human rights is not open to debate.
2. Likewise, the right to choose abortion should not be subject to a vote, because access to safe abortion is a fundamental health issue for women. Abortion cannot be legally restricted without substantial harm to women.

I would imagine that there is quite alot of suppression of the horror of it all. This would come out in one way or another.

Former abortion clinic workers have made some shocking revelations about what goes on behind the scenes in an abortion clinic. One nurse said “Calling the women tramps and whores was nothing to this man.” She was referring to her former boss.

Why is he an ass? Because he didn’t want to have a conversation during the flight? It’s a frequent desire, especially among people who travel a lot. I know that I, for example, will gladly take off my headphones and answer questions about directions or whatever during my subway commute, but I really would rather not just chat up the person next to me every single morning. Think of how you would like to feel in your car as you drive to work: you probably listen to music, maybe have a conversation with a friend or family member who’s in the car with you. If you had to have a stranger in your passenger seat every single day, you would probably eventually tire of talking to them and would relish the minutes spent sitting quietly, listening to music and thinking. During some parts of the year, I fly a lot for work, and I come to crave the alone time I get on the plane.
Not to mention, I would consider it basic etiquette to exchange polite but minimal social interaction if I found myself seated next to someone who made a career out of opposing me. He feels one way and he’s not interested in getting into a debate about it in a public place. I don’t think that makes him an ass at all.

He formerly testified about partial birth abortion and jokingly said the baby helps him with the abortion by curling his little fingers around the deadly instruments. He had no qualms about describing the method he devised to pull the baby out, stab his head and suck his brains out. This is one evil man! Haskell has not been able to comply with Ohio requirements to be able to transfer an injured mother to a hospital because he IS NOT AN OB-GYN! Despite his license being revoked, his facility IS STILL OPERATING ILLEGALLY! His clinic performs 2600 abortions a year. As a committed late term abortionist who is appears proud of his accomplishments, why has the law not stepped in to end this operation?

This comment is a frank example of contempt for democracy.
Rather than an open process where people are allowed to comment on businesses coming into their cities, long before the last brick is laid, PP and Trombley are hailed as having rolled over the rights of citizens like a tank over a speed bump.

I am really not understanding how being unwilling to engage in a potentially-heated discussion in a public place one cannot leave makes him an “ass” or less of a “real man.” I would consider it rude if the person sitting next to me on a plane thought that I owed them a conversation merely because we were sitting near each other, especially if the person thought they were owed that conversation because they knew we disagreed on a hot-button issue. I think that common social etiquette would dictate that when finding yourself in an awkward situation, the polite thing to do is be friendly but allow the other person to exit the interaction easily. It’s not like I think that having a conversation is a bad thing or a rude thing, but I think that NOT wanting to have a conversation is similarly not a bad or rude thing. All of this “HE’S SUCH AN ASS, WHAT A FAKE MAN, HE MUSTA BEEN SO SHAKEN UP” stuff is seeming really strange to me.

I think what is being expressed here is mostly due to his association with PP, not so much because of his desire not to engage in a discussion. (With maybe one or two exceptions.) The last thing I would want is a confrontation on an airplane, I’m sure we’re not alone in our thinking.
Yeah Janet, I don’t really mind people here having a problem with his association with PP, because that’s something you take issue with and so on. I just find the comments about how he was being an ass or a jerk or how a real man would have taken off the headphones and gotten into it right there on the plane, or something, really unnecessary and short-sighted.

I don’t think Steve and Jill should have gotten into it right there on the plane. But I don’t think that would have happened anyway. I mean, they are adults…if they can’t have an adult conversation, then something is wrong there. But anyway, I think it was rude that he only put on his headphones AFTER he found out who she was…like he thought she was going to go off on him or something. I don’t really think Jill is like that. If she were PC and wanted to have a convo about women’s rights, I just think he would have chatted her up..and that’s just stupid to me. Can you not be an adult and be cordial to someone because they have different viewpoints? Well, if you can’t, it’s just a little immature. Jill made an effort to be cordial to him…and I GUARANTEE you she doesn’t like what he stands for one bit.

He put the earphones on after they took off. Don’t you have to turn all electronic devices off during take-offs and landings? So it seems to me that he put them on once it was acceptable to do so, not to block Jill out or because he’s incapable of cordial adult conversation. I think that no matter who had been sitting next to him or what they wanted to talk about, he probably would have put his headphones on as soon as he could. I know I do.
I have never wanted to engage a stranger on a plane in a discussion about my job, which people are often interested in and which quite a few people think they know a lot about. I usually spend the headphone-less minutes preceding a flight reading or, if the person next to me insists, making polite small talk, but as soon as we’re clear to put headphones on I put them on. Most of the people I’ve ever seen on planes do something similar. I think the people here calling this guy a jerk are judging him by a standard they would not judge others simply because they don’t like what he does.

I like what I do. I support it. But I don’t feel like talking to everybody and anybody about it, because sometimes I just want to put on my music and read a book. I’m not a walking PSA for my job, however much I may enjoy it.

Well, to be fair, I wouldn’t call Steve Trombley and Jill Stanek strangers, would you? I mean maybe in the sense that they haven’t had an official conversation but I would say they know more about each other than “typical” strangers. And now, they still haven’t had an official conversation thanks to Steve. Who know’s, maybe they would have gotten along grandly. lol.
TR, people who do the right thing don’t have a fear of being lectured. It was his conscience at work.
