Down syndrome advocates will March for Life again in 2010
Families of children with Down syndrome will walk together for the 2nd year in a row at the March for Life in D.C. on January 22, 2010.
KIDS (Keep Infants with Down Syndrome) was formed by Eileen Haupt and Leticia Velasquez, parents of children with DS, for the purpose of gathering families to walk together in the March for Life, raise awareness of the tragically high abortion rate of DS babies, and to share the joys that their children bring into their lives….
KIDS will meet at National Right to Life Committee headquarters between 11a-12p before the March. The invitation is open to all individuals who have Down syndrome and their families and friends. If you would like to join the group, please contact Eileen for more information.

This is wonderful! My husband’s childhood friend and his wife have a little boy with DS. The doctors really pressured them to abort but they are faithful Catholics and said NO WAY. Still you could see the stress of it all on the mom’s face the last few months of her pregnancy. Its a shame those life-hating docs stole her peace from her. Today her son is two and he is a little cuddlebug and the favorite grandchild out of ALL the many grandkids! His life is just as precious as any other childs!
Thanks for sharing this Sydney M. God bless you. I have family member with DS too and he is a blessing.
My birthday is Jan 22nd. I’d love to go to the March for Life as a present. :)
Thanks for telling us about this group, Jill. I had neighbors years ago in Detroit that had a child with DS.
They need us. But we need them even more.
YAYYY Eileen and Leticia!!! We will also be there, and are SO excited to be telling the world that ALL life is precious!! The IDSC will be marching with American Life League! We stand united with KIDS, sharing with the world that we believe that ALL life is precious, including the lives of our children, who are far too often in the abortion world, considered one of the “exceptions” that are okay to terminate! We disagree!
Can’t wait to see you, Eileen and Leticia, in Washington!!!
Jill, thanks so much for blogging this!
Diane, looking forward to meeting up with you too! I wish our two groups could meet up to walk together during the march. It’s so crowded, it’s almost impossible to navigate through the crowd, but who knows, maybe it could happen.
Thank God for this group and thank you, Jill, for blogging about it. It is so good to see DS children represented at the March for Life, not just targeted by the March of Dimes.
Here is a possible theme song for the event, written by a man whose first son was born with DS:
