NYC premiere of movie exposing abortion industry canceled allegedly due to threats
Here we have another example demonstrating that “choice” and free speech only go one direction in the minds of pro-aborts. What are they so afraid of?
The film BloodMoney, an exposé exposing the underbelly of the abortion industry (which I’ve previously discussed), was scheduled to premiere in New York City at Spectrum Theatres May 5.
But Spectrum management abruptly canceled the screening last week, apparently due to pro-abort threats, according to TimesUnion.com:
Roman Jaquez, a Troy filmmaker and producer of BloodMoney, said that Keith Pickard, an owner of the Spectrum, called him last week to say that he had canceled the screening after receiving phone calls from people threatening to picket outside the theater if the film was shown. Jaquez had rented the theater for 4 screenings Wednesday and Thursday and sold tickets himself….
Pickard confirmed that he had canceled the opening but denied it was because of potential protestors. He declined to give a reason.
Nicole Hungerford at NewsReelBlog.com added pro-aborts also threatened to “disrupt the showing of the film.”
I called Spectrum a 45 minutes ago but got voicemail. I’ll let you know if I hear back.
The movie’s premise, according to the website:
BloodMoney is a documentary film that exposes the truth behind the Abortion Industry from the Pro Life perspective.
This film will examine the history of abortion in America, from the inception of Planned Parenthood and the profitability of abortion clinics, to Roe v. Wade, to the denial of when life begins, to the fight to save the lives of innocent babies, and the devastating effects it has had on the women that have had them.
Blood Money director David Kyl said in a statement, according to TimesUnion.com, “I find it hypocritical that pro-abortion activists claim to be pro-choice but don’t want the public to have a choice in what films they can watch.”
Jaquez was forced to stand outside the theater Wednesday refunding money for the 1st of 4 canceled showings, 1 of which was sold out, according to Hungerford.
But there’s a silver lining. According to TimesUnion.com:
A portion of the profits from the Madison screenings will be donated to pregnancy centers, [Jaquez] said – Alpha Pregnancy Care Center in Albany and Alight Care Center in Troy. Tickets are $10.
The cancellation could benefit the film, he said. Instead of 4 screenings over 2 days at the Spectrum, it will have 20 screenings over 7 at the Madison.
“The amount of interest to see the film has multiplied,” he said.
Agreed. Kyl sent me a dvd of the movie a few weeks ago, and I finally had a chance to start viewing it 2 days ago but didn’t finish. Now I’ll be sure to. Here’s the trailer:
I spoke with Kyl by phone. He said YouTube hits and sign-ups have increased significantly since Spectrum canceled. Here is BloodMoney’s Facebook page.
As for management’s changing story, Kyl said, “There’s nothing we can prove. But objectively, why would a theater give money back once a movie has been booked and paid for?”
BloodMoney is 1 hour, 20 minutes long. It will run May 14-20 at the Madison at 1036 Madison Ave., Albany.

Keith Pickard is a wuss. Ohhhhhhhh nooooooo, picketers!
Praying against the evil one who does NOT want the truth of abortion to be known or shown. Satan will not prevail in this fight! I pray that this movie will draw amazing crowds wherever it is shown and THE TRUTH about abortion and the insidious evil that it is will be brought out into the light. That we will all be moved in our hearts to FIGHT for the lives of the unborn, to fight for the lives of women and to proclaim victory for our good and His glory!!
Jill,
Regardless of the gutless boob who can’t understand that controversy ratchets up sales, we need to bypass the obstacles.
We should get the producers to cut a bulk-sales discount on DVD’s and line up a few underwriters to purchase them. Then we need to target every school, church, and youth organization willing to screen the movie.
I KNOW that this movie will resonate with young people, because they detest being manipulated through lies worse than anything else in the world.
Let the pro-aborts picket. That’s the best advertising in the world. When screenings are to be held, the local PP should be invited to picket. Most people want to make up their own minds and will make it a point to see for themselves. If the pro-aborts had any common sense, they would shut up and let this pass as a mere ripple.
But evil always overplays its hand, and now the ripple will become a tsunami that will swallow them like Pharoh’s army in the Red Sea.
Carla,
Heroic job on last night’s thread!! You’re wonderful!
Jill,
Do you know if they will be releasing this in all theaters across America or just specific ones? Or will it be out on video anytime soon? I have been waiting to hear something about the release of this film for quite a while now, I can’t wait to see it! Keep up the great work you all do for the Pro-Life Movement! God Bless!
The way I see it: Let the Pro-aborts shout and scream to high heaven to protest this film. Get them so riled up that they go on TV and on the news and debate the showing of this film.
The more public the outcry, the better. The public, who’s not familiar with the movie, will go see it just because.
It will be similar to the Super Bowl ad…but this time, people will KNOW and SEE the TRUTH behind this horrible “industry”.
Free speech for me, but not for thee . . .
I agree with everyone who says that pro-abortion protests would be great. After all, it makes you wonder: What don’t they want me to learn?
Yes, I realize that they can get violent, and that’s a real safety concern. But surely we can get some pro-lifers to chip in for bulletproof vests, security guards, and whatever else is needed.
Thank you, Dr. Nadal! I am thankful we are on the same team. :)
Someone should point out to these “geniuses” that THEY are supposed to be all for “choice”, and some people (hopefully a LOT of people) CHOOSE to see this movie.
Carla,
Heroic job on last night’s thread!! You’re wonderful!
