It’s only “supportive” if it’s abortion
By coming into poor communities of color in an effort to regulate and attempt to control women’s decisions about reproduction and reproductive health, the group is spreading fear, myths and falsehoods not only about abortion… but also about what these anti-choice organizations actually do.
… [W]e all know that these [pregnancy resource] centers do not help women but attempt to shame through various tactics, such as propaganda films and shoving mutilated dolls in front of women….
The president’s picture on this billboard? Really? If these individuals actually cared about “Life Always,” they would be in these communities advocating for supportive services and other programs that could assist the very women they’re targeting.
~Gaylon B. Alcaraz of the Chicago Abortion Fund, blasting the new Life Always billboards and showing her ignorance of what pregnancy resource centers actually do, RH Reality Check, March 30

Wow, what planet is she from? I don’t know of any CPCs that shame women or….the doll thing or……My god, it’s like pro-aborts get a big kick out of lying, and the more outrageous their lies become, I am not sure whether to cry or to ….cry.
Yet it was the abortion healing program offered at a CPC that helped me with abortion regret after I did not receive the promised “counseling” from the abortion clinic and after two suicide attempts. I don’t hesitate to talk about my suicide attempts. It really makes pro-aborts uncomfortable. It was the abortion clinic that lied to me telling me post-abortive syndrome was a myth and who dismissed my feelings of regret when I showed up for my “counseling” appointment and my “counselor” did not. That proved I was only important when I came in for an abortion, definitely not after. At the CPC I wasn’t shamed for having an abortion nor was I shown mutilated dolls, pictures of aborted babies, etc. I received real help. Pro-aborts will resort to anything to hang on to “choice.”
$50 says Gaylon has never been to a CPC.
RCH, I feel for you! Even in the ‘recovery’ room, I felt that distinct sense that we were cattle to be used for money and as soon as the next wave of girls was about to need the recliners, we were dismissed. Some gals were still groggy from anesthesia.
I changed my mind at the very last minute but of course, abortionists don’t want to have to give you your money back so they press on, made easy by the drugs they give you and your naked vulnerability.
When I tried to tell my story a few weeks ago to a pro-choicer who’s known me for over a decade, she accused me of lying. She said it “couldn’t” have happened like that and that I “wouldn’t” have reacted like I did. I was stunned!!
Some women are pro-choice because they just don’t know the facts. Others are simply damaged, very damaged. When I tell my story now (which I keep in the briefest and least detailed terms) I can tell who’s a damaged post-abortive woman by the facial tics and body-wide muscle tension that takes over them.
It’s tough for us to overcome such a traumatic experience followed by such long term regret. But thank God for the wonderful women I’ve been meeting the past 3 years and for organizations that provide healing such as Rachel’s Vineyard
It isn’t ignorance. It’s lies.
I’m willing to cut some slack when it comes to grassroots supporters of abortion. But the leaders know the truth.
By contrast, when a woman leaves a CPC, she is the same inside and out as she was when she walked in. She can do anything she wants after that. Alcaraz seems to be speaking with two mouths at once: CPC’s are evil, but women need help. Well, duh!!
On the one hand she claims pro-lifers should not operate CPCs and on the other she claims we should help support pregnant women. I really wish she’d make up her mind.
Wow, what planet is she from? I don’t know of any CPCs that shame women or….the doll thing or……
The lies get more outrageous. Really, what are they afraid of? I heard one pro-abort say that we “force” women to give natural childbirth as a way of “punishing” them for giving birth without being married. Uh, yeah right.
I don’t mean to play the race card here, but from this woman’s name she sounds Latina, and the CPC’s help THOUSANDS of women of color every year.
Mary Lee, after you’ve had a good cry, send a donation to your local CPC!
Yes, MST, the CPC I volunteered at was in a mostly Hispanic neighborhood. A few of the women who came in for diapers and baby clothes didn’t even speak English. My Spanish is very limited, so I helped them the best I could until one of the directors (who was Hispanic) came back.
At the CPC where I worked, most of our clients were African American and Hispanic as well.
[W]e all know that these [pregnancy resource] centers do not help women but attempt to shame through various tactics, such as propaganda films and shoving mutilated dolls in front of women….
If CPCs didn’t help women, we wouldn’t have any repeat clients.
I never showed a single “propaganda” film at the CPC. But I did show videos on fetal development and pregnancy options.
As for “mutilated dolls” – I believe the correct term she’s looking for is “accurate fetal models.” Non-“mutilated,” of course. The abortion mills take care of the mutilation part.
Now, now Kel. Silly.
Anything shown to a woman at a CPC=propaganda.
Oh, of course, Carla. How could I forget?
When women walk into CPCs, they lose all their brain cells automatically and become “victims.”
Abortion mills, on the other hand, add those magically extra-empowered brain cells to every woman that walks in.
See? Simple Simon.
When a woman walks into a mill she is all about reproductive justice!! and rights!! and her body, her choice!! Empowered I tell ya!
No propaganda at the mills. Nosireeeebob.
“If CPCs didn’t help women, we wouldn’t have any repeat clients.”
I’m sure PP says the same.
“I’m sure PP says the same.”
What they forget to mention is that another method of ensuring repeat clients is by handing out faulty contraceptives and condoms. Then, of course, they “help” women by performing their abortions. Women need PP’s brand of “help” like they need a hole in the head.
Hmm . . . my profession involves providing “supportive services” to men, women and children EVERY DAY!
I’m sure they do, Hal. They’ll “help” them. For a price.
What kind of person would lie about a whole community services sector, focused entirely on offering FREE assistance to women in pregnancy-related distress, 98% staffed by volunteers?
Oh I know, someone who also believes that killing unborn humans is good for babies, mothers and all of us.
News flash to Gaylon- my agencies don’t offer a single service to a fetus.
We provide FREE pregnancy tests, FREE ultrasounds, FREE consults with midwives and nurses, FREE mentoring, FREE maternity wear, FREE accomodation, FREE parenting classes, FREE relationship and financial counselling, FREE referrals to appropriate medical and community resources and FREE post-abortion counselling to WOMEN.
For born babies, we offer their mothers access to free loans of baby furniture, clothing and accessories, as well as the chance to earn really beautiful gear for their babies by doing positive things for them. Again, no services for fetuses there either.
We don’t ever show a single picture, video, web-image etc of an aborted fetus to any of our clients. We do however, allow her to see and hold (if she chooses) anatomically accurate models of unborn children, some in-utero, ranging in gestational age from 7 weeks to 30 weeks, often while we’re performing her ultrasound.
Our services have NO EXPIRATION DATE. We have clients who come back again and again, year after year, and even have clients who are daughters of previous clients from years ago.
I don’t have a “complaints department.” I honestly can’t remember the last time we received a complaint. I have never, ever ever, received a complaint from a client that we gave her innaccurate information, or that we made her feel guilty about her abortion, or that we hurt her in some way. We do, however, have scrapbooks full of thankyou cards and letters, and an entire display cabinet dedicated to photos of happy mothers and beautiful babies.
I personally know that there are some fantastic pregnancy resource centers in Illinois, as there are all over the US and around the world.
If Gaylon is so confident in her position, why must she resort to BOLD FACED LIES to back up her assertion?
Michelle – awesome post!! :)
You all know about that pro-choice bowling fundraiser for an abortion fund coming up in various cities through out the US? Well I think we should hold our own bowling tournament fundraiser in the same cities (at a diiferent bowling ally though), a kind of counter fundraiser, and fundraise for CPCs/pregnancy resource centers and the real support services they provide on a continuum to women and children. We could call ours “Bowling for Women and Children.” What do you guys think?
I’m so tired of pro-choicers claiming to be about “choice” and “support” and yet their Planned Parenthoods and private abortion clinics aren’t providing pregnancy and parenting options and services (if even referrals) outside of abortion and they fight tooth and nail and seek to shut down centers who do provide women with other options and support. They’re showing their true colors, that in fact the only option which they seek to provide and protect is their sacrosanct abortion rights for themselves. Their concern for their abortion clients, and poor and minority populations goes only as far as it benefits them and their agenda.
From “BET” – African American website and network:
“…Though the name Crisis Pregnancy Center is vague, critics say it’s very clear what the centers are designed to do: talk women out of having abortions.
The religious affiliation of one CPC, Christian Alpha Center of Sioux Falls in South Dakota, immediately calls into question the center’s ability to give advice about a procedure like abortion. The organization doesn’t offer medical services (prenatal care and ultrasounds, for example). What it will do, however, is force women who have already decided to have an abortion to listen to lectures about secondary virginity and the side effects of the procedure. In other words, its staff will terrorize women until they renege on their decision to terminate their pregnancies.
Care Net, another Christian-based CPC, plans to set up shop in Washington, D.C. The CPC says it’s “strategically planting new pregnancy centers in these urban communities in order to provide needed abortion alternatives and pregnancy support services.”
Care Net says its main desire is to “serve” African-Americans and Latinas.
If these people are friends to the Black community, we’d hate to see our foes.

Inform of side effects of abortion = “terrorizing women”. I thought it was called informed consent. Who’d a thunk it?
Here’s the link to the first CPC lied about in your little excerpt:
Alpha Center
In 20 seconds I was able to do more research than the bitter author of the above drivel. Ultrasounds? Check. Prenatal Care? Refer for Medical (common) & offer parenting classes, Baby Closet Awards Program & the like.
Caught this statement right off the bat:
Are you hurting? The Alpha Center is here to listen. We invite anyone who has experienced the pain from an abortion to call us at 605.361.3500 24 hours a day. The Time to Heal is Now. New groups are starting soon.
The monsters! /sarc
Borrowed a page from Lori’s book, CC, and have just made a contribution to them in your honor!

Oh, I see. Unless they kill off AA and Latino babies, they’re bad news. I guess the best way to “befriend” the Black community is to abort its children.

You did contact the BET “liar,” I hope? And BTW,the black fertility rate has not suffered any drop. So much for “genocide.”
Wow, so the only evidence against CPCs CC could come up with were unsupported, baseless accusations and claims, made by someone else. And now you’re telling us that we need to contact this person to correct them, eventhough you chose to use these unsubstianted (sp?) claims yourself? Pot calling kettle. Just sayin’…
