Mass shooter made crude abortion joke
One of the school’s deans reported to police a teacher’s concern about Loughner responding to a classmate’s poem about abortion.
“… Loughner had made comments in the class about abortion, wars, killing people, and ‘why don’t we just strap bombs to babies,'” the police report says. “[The dean] said that Loughner has a ‘dark personality’ and is kind of ‘creepy’ and they had resolved to just keep an eye on him.”
Still, a later report by Aubrey Conover, an “Advanced Program Manager” at Pima College, described talking with Loughner about his in-class abortion comments.
“He said that the class had been talking about abortion, which made him think of death, which made him think of suicide bombers, which made him think of babies as suicicde (sic) bombers,” that letter states. “We talked about how you need to give context to you (sic) statements, especially when deal (sic) with emotional issues. Jared said he would not say anothing (sic) in class.”
~ Phoenix New Times, March 28, on Jared Loughner, convicted for slaughtering six people and injuring 13 others, including former U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords, in a shooting rampage on January 8, 2011
I’ve made this point before, and it bears repeating: the violence we see perpetrated upon others outside the womb is DIRECTLY related to the violence we see directed towards those in the womb. It is one long continuum of disrespect and devaluing of life. How scary that Jared Loughner sees this relationship more clearly than Cecile Richards.

Speaking of mass shootings. Here is another horrific mass shooting display that Obama needs to take responsibility for.

In a Godless society do people think shootings are going to stop? Abortion made life cheap. Mothers and Fathers don’t want their kids. Kids kill their parents .

Expect it to get worse.

Denise could you tell me how to get a hold of some of your books. I’m a speed reader and I love true crime.

YES because you don’t need god to realize that shooting people is bad. At least I don’t. And percentage wise, there are fewer of us [atheists] in prison than there are theists…

To be fair, there are also fewer atheists than theists in the general population, too. Plus I bet you get a lot of misreporting or just plain in-prison conversions, since “finding God” is one of the only allowed ways to break the monotony of prison time and even get certain preferential treatment. Depending on the security of the prison, belonging to a religion with a significant community presence can mean going to meetings (and even having something like a can of soda there), choosing between going to church and doing clean-up duties, etc. I mean, honestly, I joined youth group in middle school because it was more fun than the alternatives, and as crappy as middle school is, it’s no prison, so…. ;)

Or no, since mental illness hasn’t been completely eliminated, and being religious doesn’t grant one immunity from such conditions, and the same goes for lacking any religious inclinations.

I know there are fewer atheists, but by percentage, there are still fewer of us in prison.
Mental illness is not what causes all crimes. Oy..

The question posed was “In a Godless society do people think shootings are going to stop?”
And you began your answer with “YES…”
My answer was that no, I don’t think things like that will ever entirely cease, Theocracy or Godless society or what have you, because even AT BEST, there will still be that guy who wakes up one morning hearing the voices telling him that the blood of his enemies is the only thing that can save him from some unspeakable fate, and he will act upon that. I’m not saying “mental illness causes all crime!!!1111”-I’m saying that going on a mass shooting rampage isn’t a particularly sane thing to do. Do you disagree?

The main reason there are less atheists in prison is because there is only a small percentage of the population that are atheists in the first place, and there’s that whole “finding God” aspect when you are locked in a cage and have little to do with your time but think about how much you screwed up. I’m not knocking it (though it doesn’t seem to help recidivism much), but it’s fallacious to think that atheism has much to do with crime either being lower or higher. Crime is dependent on mental illness, socioeconomic factors, family structure, and a whole lot of other things that have nothing to do with religion.

Lol I didn’t read the other comments, Alexandra basically said what I did only better.
Also, like X pointed out, it’s silly to think that crime will just disappear because people will realize things are wrong (lolwut most people who commit crimes know they are wrong and harmful, they just don’t give a crap for different reasons).
Even if we reduce or eliminate all the factors that contribute to crime, we still have human nature to contend with, and some humans will always do bad things. Regardless of what religious beliefs they subscribe to or deny.
Source: I’m a reformed hardened criminal and I knew very well the things I was doing were wrong and hurtful, did them anyway for a multitude of reasons which had nothing to do with my lack of religion. I knew many religious people who committed the same crimes I did to. I don’t see a relation at all to religion.
