Singer Charlie Daniels supports Catholic nuns in Obamacare legal battle
It’s a disgrace when the only people with the guts to face down Obama is a group of Catholic Nuns.
God bless you Sisters.

There’s actually several HHS mandate related cases working their way through the courts now, so I’m not sure how he figures that the nuns are the only ones standing up to Obama.

Are you sure about that JDC ;)

JDC is right, the nuns aren’t the only ones who are suing over the HHS mandate.
I worry about Catholic hospitals and such being penalized over the mandate, that’s a good chunk of American healthcare that would be negatively affected. This whole employer provided insurance thing isn’t working. :/

I’m not sure why it would be a disgrace or weird though, if Catholic nuns were the first people to complain. Catholics have a long social justice history. They were the first in the pro-life movement, for one, and were heavily involved in better conditions for slaves in South America. The clergy sent to South America to “convert” natives were generally horrified at native treatment and many of them attempted to protect the natives and African slaves brought over. Several Catholic clergy (and a lot of laity), challenged segregation along with many non-Catholic ministers in the south during the civil rights movement in the sixties. So I don’t know why it would be disgraceful for a bunch of nuns to be the first to say something about religious freedoms being denied or infringed, especially since anti-contraception beliefs is traditionally a Catholic moral thing.

Can you for once loosen up Jack. You obviously missed that wink right next to my question to JDC.
Hey check it out – I am keeping my posts across this blog very light today :)

For the record DLPL, your January 6, 2014 at 2:13 pm comment is exactly the point JDC missed and I had to correct with the wink smiley (sorry JDC).

Mr. Charlie Daniels is indulging in a bit of dramatic hyperbole. It is true that the Little Sisters are not the only ones who are standing up against Obama and the HHS Mandate. It is also true that hardly anyone in America is paying attention to the battle for our religious freedom.
So when the Little Sisters stand up, they get noticed. And when Obama stomps on them with the full weight of the Justice Department, he looks like a bully.
So in the short space of a tweet message, Mr. Daniels is poetically correct to say, “Hey, look at those Little Sisters, standing up the bully that all the rest of us big men are afraid to face.”

Seriously now – of course it is true Del. I agree.

But we mustn’t forget Sr. Carol Keehan of Catholic Healthcare Association, who defied the US Bishops and gave her support to Obamacare. Pelosi and Biden were seen cheering, “We got the nuns! We got the nuns!” This was political cover for Catholic Democrats who didn’t want to offend their fellow Catholic voters back home. Sr. Carol got one of Obama’s signing pens.
And then there’s Sr. Simone Campbell of Nuns On The Bus, who travelled the country stumping against Romney and then got invited to speak at the Democratic National Convention.
So when modern religious Sisters in America are faithfully working to help the poor and then genuinely hurt by Obamacare, it is significant. Surely Mr. Obama can provide them with a religious exception to this violation of their conscience. No? — Well, how about he just looks the other way and lets the courts decide? Their operation is so very small. No???? He’s going to persecute them to the fullest extent of the law, and drive them out of their charity work?
Seems so. These are not the right kind of nuns for Obama.

Doesn’t the Bible say the first shall be last and the last shall be first? A little child shall lead them? Blessed are the poor in spirit, the meek, those of you who hunger and thirst for righteousness, etc? Frankly, I would love to see President Obama’s administration get its comeuppance from the Little Sisters of the Poor. But then, I have always rooted for the underdog.
