Actress Swoosie Kurtz: Abortion “impossibly difficult”
It was very, very difficult for me. It was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever been through in my life. On all levels. Impossibly difficult...
~ Actress Swoosie Kurtz, describing her abortion experience during the 1960s in an interview with HuffPost Live, April 29

How do I expound on this? Is she looking for sympathy?
You are not alone Swoosie.
The regret will always be there. The experience horrifying.
I am praying she repented and received the forgiveness that God gives so she can be reunited with her precious child one day.
What is there to expound on? It is what it is.
Post abortive women have no need for your sympathy heather.
Okay after reading more she regrets her abortion. It was kinda vague. I didnt know if she. And Carla I wasnt sure if she meant she had difficulty obtaining one or if she was sorry.
To finish my sentence i meant to say…i wasnt sure if shed meant shed had difficulty obtaining one because it was illegal back then. Thank God for the search engine. WHY wouldnt I FEEL bad for her? Here we go again!
Carla: I don’t understand her statement: if it was “impossibly difficult” I’d think she would not have proceeded with it.
Is it just a case of an attempt at justifying then?
Post abortive women get my sympathy when they repent. Those who dont dont get any from me.
Thomas R. could be. Actress Anne Archer said the same thing. Her dad took her to Mexico to abort but yet shes not sorry. She pimps legal abortion.
It is interesting that while she has stated that there should be no stigma surrounding abortion, that she could not bring herself to tell her mother. Ever. And she almost seems shocked by her own admission here.
Try as we might to blame our guilt on society, it is hard to quiet one’s own conscience sometimes.
Thomas, a lot of times, women who feel that abortion is “impossibly difficult” proceed with it because they are in a situation where carrying to term feels even MORE impossible. That is something that has to change.
Hindsight Thomas. Hindsight.
Abortion is presented as simple, easy, quick, liberating, a woman’s right. Move on with your life. The abortion industry has excelled in the propaganda department.
I didn’t know then what I know now. That it would be the most horrifying experience of my life. Which is why so many of us try to WARN others of the devastation that abortion brings.
The pain of losing a child never goes away I see. I know people who had miscarriages or abortions decades ago who still grieve that loss. Our society says miscarriage is kinda sad..but get over it and abortion? You have no right to grieve at all so you REALLY need to get over that but a woman’s heart doesn’t lie. She feels that pain for the rest of her life. Gloria Swanson’s autobiography always sticks with me. She was an old lady mourning a child she aborted in Paris 7 decades before. All those years, and she still felt the need to mourn this child and memorialize him in the written story of her life.
Agreed Sydney.
Forbidden grief.
Thanks Alexandra and Carla.
Also remember to be supportive of your sisters who have chemically aborted. Off to work.
What kind of a name is Swoosie? :)
So who is this, anyways? Is she actually famous? I’ve honestly never heard of her.
She’s done a lot of acting work: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001436/
Kojak – now that was a series to remember! I’m going to review that episode in which she appeared and rate her acting for you :)
I think the abortion was even more difficult for the baby who was sliced and diced and disgarded with the medical waste, but he or she is not around to tell the story.
Hi Carla, 12.32PM
Its right up there with “Whoopi”.
Her name “Swoosie” is derived from “Swoose” – half swan, half goose – which was the name of the B-17D bomber that her father piloted in World War II. This same aircraft (USAAC 40-3097) once carried future-president Lyndon Johnson back to Australia from Port Moresby, New Guinea, after he rode as a Navy observer on a B-26 raid on Lae. It is now owned by the National Air and Space Museum in Washington.
“Whoopie Goldberg” is a stage name, BTW. Her REAL name is KAREN JOHNSON.
:)
I used to like Karen Johnson so much in The Color Purple and Ghost and Corrina, Corrina.
No more.
