Pro-life vid of day: Fifty shades of mainstream sexual violence
by Kelli
Life Site News columnist and speaker Jonathon Van Maren took heat from both Christians and non-Christians when he voiced his opposition to Fifty Shades of Grey, a book that romanticizes domination, bondage, and sadomasochism. Planned Parenthood was even caught on tape encouraging teens to read the book and to view pornography in order to engage in BDSM.
Van Maren was interviewed about the increased mainstreaming of sexual violence on Canada’s Sun News:
Whatever happens between two consenting adults is not “sexual violence”. Comparing kinks with actual violence like rape is not okay.

One could make a counter-argument that what one does will have a significant impact on how one behaves in the future. Violence is using force to harm someone, and sex and violence, even if mutually agreed on, don’t mix. The long-standing social stigma of kink is there for a good reason, I argue. I think how you treat a person should be independent of consent, in other words, if someone asks you to mistreat them, don’t do it.

Thank you, Jonathon. I hope more men of all ages start speaking out against this book and movie.
Abused/mistreated/mentally ill people will “consent” to ugly behavior more often than healthy people will. Soon there will not be any women left who are not abused in one way or another.

I’m pretty sure that even people in the “BDSM community” hate 50 Shades of Grey.

He’s my God too, Sammy boy.

Sexual harassment (especially from someone who has already been banned) is against the rules here.
Thanks.

Oh my goodness. Having never read the book, I’ve been dismissing it based on excerpts and mocking examinations of the terrible writing and lack of plot, all the time wondering WHY so many people seem to revere it. I never considered the actual violence aspect of this cultural phenomenon–especially for young teens (my niece is almost 12, makes me wonder what she’s already been exposed to)!
As for the claims of “spicing things up in the bedroom”–if you really need new ideas, just go to any public library and grab something at random from the “romance” section; it’s not exactly a new genre, and the plotlines in any bodiceripper novel will probably be shades better than 50 shades!

Jonathon, get rid of the vest.
There are always people worrying about “the state of things,” and wringing their hands over it, so to speak. It’s been that way for thousands of years.

Dave Barry on 50 Shades.
Totally Hilarious:

excerpt:
“This is why the immense popularity of Fifty Shades of Grey is actually great news for men. It’s a signal from the female gender—not unlike the one broadcast by Shawna—transmitting an exciting and encouraging message to men everywhere: “We are interested in sex! We’re just not interested in sex with you unless you’re a superhot billionaire.”
OK, so this is not a totally positive message for us men. But we can work with it! We can interpret it to mean that women would like their sex lives to be more interesting. Maybe they wish that we would be more obsessive and stalkerish. Maybe they even secretly fantasize about engaging in unconventional, even “kinky,” sexual activities. There is only one way to find out, men: You need to have an honest, “no holds barred” conversation about sex with the special woman in your life. I did this with my wife, and as difficult as this was for me, I’m glad I did because it was very revealing. Here’s the complete transcript:
Me: Hey, do you secretly want me to tie you up and flog you?
My wife: No.
Yes, communication is the key to a successful relationship. That, and not peeing in the shower. That’s pretty much all the advice I have for you men. In a word: Be sensitive. And now, if you’ll excuse me, my inner god needs to turn on the TV and watch huge men knock each other down.”

Maybe Dave should have started with the question of whether or not his wife secretly hopes to stop having sex with him.
