As a mom, it wasn’t hard to say yes. I couldn’t refuse. If we can help to try to make people more aware, try to help.  Can’t believe that some children are asking for parents for the holidays. This is like, not normal. And there’s so many foster care children.

~ Singer Celine Dion, explaining her reasons for hosting the CBS special, “A Home for the Holidays,” in which she raises awareness for foster children, as quoted by Extra TV, December 18

Céline Dion names twin sons

Since we’ve been following singer Céline Dion’s trials as she attempted to grow her 8-yr-old frozen embryos to maturity in her body, I thought I’d provide closure with great news. From CBS News, October 25:

Celine Dion… gave birth to fraternal twin boys on Saturday [October 23] at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, FL, at 11:11 a.m. and 11:12 a.m….

One baby reportedly weighed 5 pounds, 10 ounces; the other 5 pounds, 4 ounces….

40 yrs+ celebrity IVF pregnancies: Celine Dion and Kelly Preston

kelly preston john travolta.jpgThree weeks ago 47-yr-old actress Kelly Preston and 56-yr-old actor husband John Travolta announced they were expecting a baby. (Twins denied.)
Then a week ago 42-yr-old singer Céline Dion announced she and 68-yr-old husband René Angélil were expecting twins.
Both pregnancies were reportedly conceived via in vitro fertilization.
(And if these things do come in 3s, keep an eye on 40-yr-old singer Mariah Carey, whose 29-yr-old husband singer Nick Cannon didn’t exactly quash rumors a few days ago that she’s pregnant as well.)
Congrats to all. We’re praying for healthy babies.
Even though we recently observed in 4443-yr-old Michelle Duggar that women over 40 do conceive naturally, pregnancy past 40 isn’t the norm.
On May 31 OB/Gyn Dr. Jennifer Ashton described on CBS’s The Early Show the staggering preborn death toll to achieve a successful 40+ pregnancy…

The… performer… said: “I have a twin. It is called a laboratory twin.
“I do not know if it is good forever but I think it lasts for a very long time. I will go get it, that’s for sure. I told my mother.
“I surely couldn’t live knowing that child is there.”…

Just to clarify, fyi, according to the same article…

Quote of the Day 2-21-11

“It was a very emotional moment, and even though we didn’t speak to each other, we were both thinking about the time it took. We are very lucky, very privileged and very fortunate to have these boys.”

~Rene Angelil, husband of singer Celine Dion, US Magazine, February 19

Weekend news potpourri

There were a few great articles as well as news of interest to pro-lifers posted over the weekend I wanted to draw your attention to….

  • A December 11 Wall Street Journal article entitled, “Assembling the Global Baby.” Commenter Stacy (who has also written her own post on it) aptly described it as “horrifying,” and it really is. We sometimes toss out the terms “opened a Pandora’s box” and “brave new world” cavalierly. But this is  piece will shake every pro-lifer up. Our world has now entered a phase that is really all that.

Celine Dion Rene Angelil in vitro fertilization, pregnant, ivf.jpg

Céline Dion is no longer pregnant with a second child.

Despite the 41-year-old singer’s doctor announcing in August that she was pregnant via in vitro fertilization, it has now been revealed that the embryos transferred were unsuccessful.

[Dion and husband René Angélil, 67] ha[ve] an 8-year-old son, René-Charles, who was also conceived by IVF after 6 years of trying. During the initial attempt to conceive her first child, Dion had her embryos frozen in liquid nitrogen.

Angélil revealed the couple will travel to NY this weekend for a 3rd try with Dr. [Zev] Rosenwaks….

“I admire all the women who go through such a tough process. Since April, she has undergone numerous examinations, multiple hormone injections and blood tests,” Angélil told the [Journal de Montreal]. “Céline and I didn’t get discouraged…. We put our faith in life and in the stars.”
