I am Pro-Life, I mean I really am

Innovative, from the Associated Press, March 18:

A Senate candidate has legally changed his name to Pro-Life and will appear on the ballot that way this year, state election officials say.

As Marvin Pro-Life Richardson, the organic strawberry farmer... was denied the use of his middle name when he ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2006 because the state's policy bars the use of slogans on the ballot.

pro-life2.jpg

Now, though, officials in the Idaho secretary of state's office say they have no choice because Pro-Life is his full and only name. He says he will run for the highest state office on the ballot every two years for the rest of his life, advocating murder charges for doctors who perform abortions and for women who obtain the procedure....

Pro-Life, 66, says he hopes to get 5% of the vote as an independent....

Pro-Life is pursuing a striking public awareness campaign, but it could be problematic...

David Ripley, executive director of Idaho Chooses Life, says he knows and respects Pro-Life but fears some voters may think Pro-Life is a position rather than a candidate and mistakenly mark their ballots both for him and for another anti-abortion candidate for the Senate, thus nullifying their choices.

"I'm pretty concerned about it," Ripley said. "I think that could cause a lot of confusion out there ... (Its) more likely to undermine the pro-life movement by having a lot of pro-life votes discounted."

Valid concern.

Comments:

Non-profits aren't allowed to endorse candidates. By changing his name to Pro-Life, non-profits now risk losing tax-exempt status every time they say "Vote Pro-Life."

This guy is really screwing things up for 501(c)(3) groups. ;)

What a fabulously stupid publicity stunt.

I really think all politicians are another form of life - they make LOOK just like us, but obviously something very different is going on in the inner workings of their minds.

Posted by: Amanda at March 20, 2008 9:14 AM

Oh yeah ... that's going to make sooooo much difference ....

Posted by: TexasRed at March 20, 2008 9:56 AM

This is typical right wing stuff here folks.....I think he should of went with Jesus Pro Life War Monger Richardson.

Posted by: PeachPit at March 20, 2008 10:10 AM

He advocates murder charges for women who obtain the procedure. Does that mean Carla and PajamaMama would go to jail for life? That is completely insane because they are both good people and they have families they need to be with.

How...incredibly....asinine. I can't even begin to imagine how much of a dingbat this guy is. *rolls eyes*

Posted by: Lyssie at March 20, 2008 11:20 AM

Haha - not only does this WINGNUT want to charge women who have abortions with murder, his own party wants nothing to do with him.

Here is the website of the party he ran for office on - urging people NOT to vote for him.

I have to admit though, when he passes away, it will be pretty flipping funny to see "Pro Life" on a tombstone.

Posted by: Amanda at March 20, 2008 11:22 AM

OMG yes Amanda! They will be burying Pro-Life. Bet he didn't think of that one...

Posted by: Jess at March 20, 2008 11:25 AM

Makes us all look like idiots. And prosecuting women, who are second victims of abortion? Yeah, that's real pro-life.

Posted by: Steven Ertelt at March 20, 2008 12:55 PM

I think women who have abortions should be put to death...eye for an eye. They are the ones at fault here people. If they don't drive to the clinic, the abortion doesn't happen.

Oh sorry the above was me. But think about it if post abortive women were put to death then Carla and her children wouldn't be here. Niether would PajamaMama and her's. And I can tell already I'm going to like PajamaMama.

Posted by: Jess at March 20, 2008 3:39 PM

haha, Anon, Zeke is probably one of maybe 7 people on Earth who doesn't think this guy is a complete NutterButter.

On a related note of CRAZY, did you guys here about the parents in Japan who wanted to name their child "@"?

Posted by: Amanda at March 20, 2008 3:43 PM

That's oLd news Amanda : P Did you hear about the day of silence?

What do you guys think about that?

Posted by: Jess at March 20, 2008 3:59 PM

Peach Pit IS pro choice.

Posted by: heather at March 20, 2008 4:02 PM

It's kind of sad that the voters have been so dumbed down that they can't recognize a candidate from an issue on a ballot, no matter the name. There's the issue of placement and description on the ballots which delineates candidates from issues. (I guess I should be writing at a sixth grade level, but I'm not writing a ballot just now.
As for using Prolife as a candidate name for the sake of getting prolife ad time. I think it's a cool idea. You know that this prohibits the media outlets from rejecting his ads, don't you????

Posted by: kb at March 20, 2008 4:44 PM

Not to worry, Jess. :)
I am alive in Christ and He paid the debt of my sin for me.The sin of my abortion has PAID IN FULL written in His blood over it. I am thankful that I do not worship a man named ProLife. He has no mercy or grace. But Jesus does. HE IS RISEN!!

Posted by: Carla at March 20, 2008 9:26 PM

Carla,

AMEN & Praise the Lord!!!

Posted by: JLM at March 20, 2008 9:40 PM

Jess,

Thanks for getting our backs!

But, the whole "aborting mothers should be put to death" thing doesn't really bother me much, for several reasons, the MAJOR one being that I, like Carla and other repentent abortive mothers, have the love and forgiveness of our sin from Jesus Christ - can't stress that enough. And through that love and forgiveness, even a sentence of death from mankind would not erase the comfort we feel. We would die knowing that we have been saved.

Secondly, at the time of our transgression, our sin was "legal", so there would be no chance that we would be subjected to such a punishment retroactively. Even Zeke acknowledged that would be unjust.

Thirdly, once our society accepts and embraces the humanity of the unborn, and the reality of abortion is widely known and condemned by our legal sysem, it is only then that a proper penalty for aborting mothers, abortionists, and their accessories could be formulated. It seems to me that abortion could be considered either equal to or possibly a minutely lesser crime than the crime of say, infanticide at birth, which happens often these days. I'm not sure what the criminal penalties for that are, but I would imagine that they are considered more akin to manslaughter than to murder. As such, I imagine that any criminal penalty would not include execution, anyway, only prison time to the tune of 10 years or so.

In conclusion, actions are only deserving of worldly criminal penalties when a society collectively agrees that they are crimes and then widely proclaims them as such.

Those crimes are separate from what God says are sins, which have their own divine penalties. An example that we have is adultery. Not against the law, but a sin against God. If we as a society collectively decided that adultery was also ILLEGAL, then it would be our duty and our right to impose a criminal penalty upon it.

So, until abortion is outlawed, discussions about "public and painful executions" of aborting mothers are moot (Zeke) and do nothing to help the pro-life cause. Naturally, IF and WHEN society decides that abortion is illegal, only then can a fitting and proper criminal penalty be discussed.

This so-called politician sounds really
frightening. Is this what America was founded
on.?I think not. When will people learn that
when a government tries to force women to
bear children,it never works, never has and
never will? This inevitably leads to disaster,
and it certainly will if the government makes
abortion illegal. There is simply no way to
enforce laws against it.Abortion is rampant
in every country where it is illegal.
The LOWEST rates are in Europe(eastern
europe excepted).
If anti-choice politicians want to prevent
abortion, why don't they simply offer every
pregnant woman who otherwise could not afford
that child that they will give her and her
family all the support they need to take care
of that child and the whole family? Make
sure that every child will have decent food,
shelter,clothing,education and health care.
Noooo-that's socialism. And we don't want socialism and maybe later communism.
God forbid. This goes against all conservative
prinicples.See the hypocrisy of these anti-
choicers?

And prosecuting women, who are second victims of abortion?

Victims or perpetrators? The jury is out with me.

When abortion is re-criminalized, women should damn well be prosecuted for breaking the law. Not ex-post-facto, but when they are indeed breaking.

I think to call women victims of their own choices is an insult to women- implying that we're too stupid to know what we're doing. Deluded- maybe. Coerced- perhaps---But women, for the most part, know that something is wrong with killing their own child.

Should men be making our choices for us then- cutting our meat, ordering our salads? Women who abort aren't necessarily stupid. Deluded- maybe. Coerced- perhaps---But women, for the most part, know that something is wrong with killing their own child.
