New Stanek WND column: "Abortion and the end of the world"

wnd_logo.gif

The U.S. did not legalize abortion in a vacuum in 1973. The Guttmacher Institute, Planned Parenthood's research division, states abortion laws worldwide were undone "rapidly" between 1950 and 1985.

Guttmacher estimates 46 million babies are aborted worldwide each year. This means almost 1 billion babies have been aborted worldwide just during the past 20 years.

If current world population is 6.5 billion, as the U.S. Census Bureau indicates, all must acknowledge the profound impact of abortion on the human race, no matter where they stand on abortion.

In that regard, I have some theories on the impact of abortion on world history....

Comments:

I am certain that you will have those who believe your comment below is ludicrous.

"My fourth theory is that God is allowing abortion out of His sense of mercy, to draw those who have been implicated and broken by it – mothers, fathers, accomplices – to Him."

However, I am one of those who happen to, due to personal experience, agree with you. For I AM one of those who came to My God because of such a hidious action myself 20 years ago.

Thank you for your mercy. Not many can walk as He did.

Wow. I just read your column and I'm crying. It is very good.

There is an obvious effect of abortion always missed: If Abortion weren't legal, how many more troops would be available to fight in Iraq? Given the demographics and relative sizes, it could have been 400,000 instead of the 150,000.

Every child killed by Planned Parenthood today is one that Al-Queda won't have to worry about fighting 18 years from now.

I would also note that the family size isn't among "Christians" in general, it is only among traditional Catholics and Evangelicals and a
few others.

But if abortion is an abomination for all, contraception - if the original reading of the Catholic Church, Luther, Calvin, Wesley, etc., is correct - is an abomination inside the church, which is held to a higher standard than pagans.

Thank you for the good work you try to do. God honors those who honor Him.

We face a sad reality right now as it pertains to abortion, but if we go about it right, the influence Christians can have can be great, whatever difficulty we might face.

what if there is no god, what happens to the aborted babies then?

Posted by: Doug at November 22, 2006 10:15 AM

Maybe I'm not too bright, but I keep getting confused about your references to "illicit sex" so I looked up illicit.

1. not legally permitted or authorized; unlicensed; unlawful.
2. disapproved of or not permitted for moral or ethical reasons.

Thank god we're not talking about illegal or unlicensed, and people are still free. At least in this country.

So, you must talking about "disapproved for moral or ethical reasons." What sex is disapproved for moral or ethical reasons? Pre-maritial? Threesomes? Oral? I'm not sure. Whose's approval are we talking about anyway? Yours? Mine? The bible's?

Anyway, the argument I see above that without abortion we could have bigger armies is a bit crazy, don't you think.

Finally, I'm not sure there would be more children without abortion. For example, if a woman has an abortion at 18 years of age and a child at age 25 you have the same number of people as if she had the child at age 18 and didn't get pregnant at age 25 becuase she already had a child and used contraception.

Thank you for your great evangelical message to the lost and dying world!

Abortion can only be seen as part of the redemption mechanism in light of scripture that says that all things (even abortion) work together for good for those that love God and are called according to His purposes. God's love is unconditional but His promises are conditional.

Your words are potentially comforting in trying to make sense of the insanity of abortion and the world in which it is seen as a good or amoral act.

When the Lord returns it will be in judgment and not an offer of peace. The world needs to hear this no matter what the cost to the messenger and the church is not doing it. The continuation of abortion is proof of this.

As 1/3 of the angels chose to rebel and follow satan and as a result were cast out of heaven, choosing abortion without repentance is one of the ways satan deceives God's intended away from their heavenly destiny. I doubt that those lost 1/3 were totally aware of the consequences of their "choice", I mean they probably were not looking down into a fiery lake and said, "Yeah, that's the ticket."

Doug - If there is no God, then abortion is not wrong.

Hal - By "illicit" I mean any sexual act committed outside of marriage. And the only guidelines that matter are Biblical.

As for your thought that there might be no more children without abortion due to contraceptive use, you haven't read any stats. The contraceptive failure rate is very high.

Surely abortion in not murder then, for all of us can agree that murder would be wrong whether god exists or not.

Posted by: Hal at December 4, 2006 11:33 AM

Hal,

If God doesn't exist, then even murder isn't really immoral, either.

Sure, on an epistemological (a mere "knowing") level, we would all say that, of course, murder is wrong. However, on an ontological level (by it's very nature), who has the right to say that?

Who is the authority that tells me that murder is wrong? Is it simply society -- a collective of fellow human beings? If so, from where does their authority derive?

Is murder wrong because it is detrimental to the survival of the species? Who can say that for certain, since murder is a useful population control mechanism that could actually contribute to the survival of the species?

The fact is, as Dostoevsky said, "Anything is permissible if there is no God."
