New Stanek WND column: "People magazine: Don't stop, get a shot"

wnd_logo.gif

An article in the Feb. 5 issue of People magazine demonstrated the persistence of liberals to march us all down the path of free love to our deaths.

I don't understand why young people would trust the ideology of those who sought their demise before they were born, but here's one: 33-year-old abortion survivor (which anyone under the age of 34 is) turned actress turned cervical cancer survivor, Marissa Jaret Winokur.

Winokur is best known for her Tony Award-winning performance as Tracy Turnblad in the Broadway musical "Hairspray."

According to the People story's teaser, Tracy "learned the cause of her cervical cancer and now makes sure other women know how to prevent it."

The sole cause of cervical cancer is human papillomavirus, or HPV, a sexually transmitted disease.

So Winokur contracted cervical cancer due to sexual promiscuity, or to put it as ambiguously as possible,
said Winokur, "I learned about a year ago that HPV, a common virus, causes cervical cancer."

The "prevention," according to Winokur? No, not a chaste lifestyle....

Continue reading my column today, "People Magazine: Don't stop, get a shot" on WND.com.

Comments:

I'm sorry you feel so strongly to condemn young women to death because they don't practice your beliefs.

Speaking on behalf of my sister's uterus, I wish I had such a drug.

Remember if it wasn't my sister speaking out about this it would have been another sterile person or parent of a dead child acting as the spokesperson for this drug.

I found your article very thought provoking, but actions are more powerful than words, so keep writing, and the youth of this world will keep having sex.

P.S. Your daughter is having sex, what are you going to do?

Posted by: Mark Winokur at January 31, 2007 5:33 PM

Mark,

My heart breaks for your sister and the life-threatening, infertility-causing consequences she must now suffer after being sold a bill of goods that sex outside of marriage is fine.

At its core, this discussion is about a belief - yes, that sex outside of marriage is bad, for a myriad of reasons. But can you not see that this belief has borne out to be for the best?

Your sister made mistakes. She bought a lie. Lord knows we all have made mistakes and bought lies.

The problem is your sister not only did not learn from her mistakes and the lie, she is passing on the lie to other young girls.

You expect young people to behave like animals. I do not. You lower the bar. They deserve greater expectations and encouragement to rise above behaving like animals.

You wrote, "I wonder, though, now armed with the truth, whether in her heart of hearts Winokur wishes she could have a do-over."

That is the question most hard core liberals need to answer. Generally speaking, they are neither happy nor satisfied, and they insist that others join them in their misery through destructive practices.

Fortunately there a do-over available for those who want it at the foot of the cross (and I know that you already know that).

Your article did a great job at pointing out the big concerns surrounding HPV vaccinations. The following paragraph, however, did bother me:

"There is only one good reason a virtuous young woman should consider getting the HPV vaccination. That is if the man she plans to marry has had sex with other women, meaning he could be infected with HPV or an array of other STDs. I don't know why a virtuous young woman would want to marry such a man, but there you go."

After working for several years in a pro-life office, not only do I become more and more amazed at God's grace to us, I am excited about it!

None of us are righteous, and we all stand equally before God in need of His righteousness to cover us.

If a man or a woman has turned away from promiscuous behavior and is committed to following God, who are we to continue to throw the past in his or her face? God's desire is to give us life, to give us beauty for our ashes, not for His followers to be the continuous accusers.

There are certainly potential reasons why a virtuous young woman might not want to marry a guy, but how can a past that is radically different from the present be one of the them?

Perhaps you did not mean to sound so harsh, but for the sake of all the secondary virgins grieving and wondering if a "nice" guy or girl will ever want them, please be a little less willing to cast stones.

Keep up the good work and thanks again for writing about such important issues.

Posted by: Ashley at January 31, 2007 6:02 PM

Tim and Ashley,

Great points.

As Ashley stated so well, whether a virtuous girl (or guy) would decide to marry someone with an imperfect past depends on the heart of the offender and the ability of the other to forgive, which I hope s/he could.

You're right, Ashley, secondary virgins need encouragement.

I have read your column. I don't mean to argue that it's not wicked to advise people to get a shot instead of advising them to stay sexually pure. You are absolutely correct about that. I believe the same.

What really bothered me in your article was this statement: "Winokur or People magazine are fueling the exploitation and health demise of women by refusing to acknowledge the only full-proof way to avoid HPV or cervical cancer: abstinence."

And it bothers me because it is not true. No matter what you may think about me (you do not know me, of course), I know and the Lord knows I have been abstinent. I gave myself for the first time to my husband, and he gave himself for the first time to me when I became his wife.

And to understand me right - I wasn't just technically a virgin, I never fooled around with anybody to any extent. So we were both virgins and do not regret that for one moment. God is blessing our marriage, and I am very grateful for it.

But a few years ago I did find myself having HPV (I had some warts), and now, years after, I have no warts but the virus came up in a test again.

I am faithful to my husband and he is to me (and please do not even think of wasting time trying to convince me that he is not and I am naive, because I know what I am talking about).

I fully agree that a sexually pure life is God's way and it protects you from all kinds of sexually transmitted disease. But I still have HPV.

I don't blame God or abstinence for it. I just get a heartache when I read statements like yours. It makes us that have HPV into some immoral women, or at best stupid and naive. We are not, or at least I am not. I have a friend who is still a virgin and she's got HPV.

My doctor says there are people that can carry it and have it for various reasons. I don't know, maybe you can get it from a public toilet, or from shaking hands with someone that has it and hasn't washed his hands after using the toilet. I don't know.

But I do know that your statement is not true. And it adds insult to injury. Would you please research this more and possibly make a correction in your article?

Posted by: B. P. at January 31, 2007 8:47 PM

B. P.,

Thanks for your note. You asked me to research this. Meaning no disrespect, it surprises me you have not researched this well before now.

I just did a google search on "hpv nonsexual contact" and found this on the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology website:

"There is no evidence that contaminated toilet seats, doorknobs, towels, soaps, swimming pools or hot tubs, can transmit HPV. However, some unexplained cases of HPV lesions do occur and one should never rule out the possibility that an HPV infection may have been caught in a non-sexual event."

So that sounds like your case.

Thanks for writing. I'm sorry my column offended you. This additional information helps educate us all. It still must be noted that while there are apparently unexplained aberrant cases, "HPV is primarily transmitted through genital-to-genital sexual contact," as ASCCP states..

Posted by: Jill Stanek at January 31, 2007 8:54 PM

Good job Jill!

However, don't forget that women are just animals according to politically correct, evolutionary theory.

Apparently, animals are often treated with more
respect. Perhaps women need an advocacy group like PETA to defend them against the mad, meddling media and over-paid, plundering political piranhas.

Posted by: R. B. at January 31, 2007 9:05 PM

I completely agree with you. We've been teaching chastity and abstinence to young girls for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Since it seems to be working so well, I see no reason not to continue doing so.

Posted by: Jenni H. at January 31, 2007 9:07 PM

I wholeheartedly agree with your disapproval of the Merck driven "public health" effort to "mandate" the HPV vaccine to all girls between the ages of 9 and 18.

As bad as the HPV vaccine "mandate" is, the Hepititis B vaccine recommended for a newborn infant within hours of birth is by far the most indefensible vaccine given to our children.

Incredibly, a local hospital in my area just received a "Certificate of Excellence" award from NYS Dept of Health for participating in its perinatal hepatitis B program. Apparently, the hospital was recognized for "routinely immunizing all newborns with the Hepatitis B vaccine at birth, unless other health conditions exist." Consider the following statement, taken off the NYS Department of Health site:

"Hepatitis B is caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). The virus is found in blood and certain body fluids. Hepatitis B is spread when a person who is not immune coments in contact with the blood or bodily fluid from an infected person. Hepatitis B is spread by having sex with an infected peson without a condom, sharing needles or 'works' when 'shooting drugs,' needlesticks or sharp exposurers in a health care setting, or from an infected mother to her baby during vaginal birth. Exposure to blood in ANY situation can be a risk for transmission."

Unless born to a mother already infected with HEP B, why is this hospital being rewarded for giving the HEP B vaccine to every infant in their care? After all, the likelihood that a newborn infant is going to make the "unhealthy lifestyle choices" that would cause the infant to be exposed to the blood or bodily fluids of an infected person is all but impossible.

Apparently, the only possible reason every infant is being given the HEP B vaccine is to protect them against an accidental or careless exposure to a "needlestick or sharp exposure in a health care setting." In any event, the same hospital does not require ALL their patients to receive the vaccine, even though every patient is at risk of the same accidental/careless exposure to the disease.

Jill, I am the proud grandfather of a loveable seven-year-old boy who "regressed" into autism just prior to this third birthday. He was born in that very same hospital, but his mom has received no response to her request for confirmation that he received the HEP B as an infant in their care.

Unfortunately, our little guy is nonverbal, and potty training remains a work in progress. Our family is convinced his "autism" is really not the "neurological" disease we are all being led to believe. We believe his "regression" was caused by the many childhood vaccines he received, beginning with the HEP B as an infant.

He has just undergone a "scope" that revealed he has at least three gastrointestinal diseases that we believe has caused his inability to digest his food, thereby denying his brain the nourishment it required as it was developing.

This in addition to the scary amount of thimerosal/mercury he received in those vaccines, which we believe played havoc with his fragile neurological development.

Thank you for taking a stand against the HPV vaccine. It is time that ALL vaccines be re-examined for their safety and efficiency.

After all, something has caused the autism epidemic that now affects 1 in every 166 children. Every day another 66 are being diagnosed autistic.

In addition, the CDC has acknowledged that 1 in every 6 American children is suffering some type of early childhood devlopment problem, such as, allergies, asthma, juvenile diabetes, juvenile rhumatoid arthritis, ADD, ADHD, etc. etc.

Whatever that something is, it stretches from Maine to California, Texas to North Dakota. The ONLY thing I believe would qualify for serious examination is the universal childhood vaccines children throughout our country are being exposed to.

Signed, Bob M., proud grandpa of Bobby M., autistic four years and counting, NY

Every time I see one of those commercials for Guardesil (sp?) the vaccine to "prevent" cervical cancer, I want to scream. Actually, I do scream: Why don't they tell the truth!

I am so angry every time I see these young girls discuss the HPV in the commercial. They need to tell girls how they get it and then it could be prevented.

My 24-year-old daughter, who had not heard about the vaccine, called me one day from the pediatrician's office for an annual check up on her daughter and asked me about the vaccine. I really don't know how she hadn't see all the commercials, but I told her I didn't think my 8-year-old granddaughter needed to worry about that right now.

Thanks so much for your great column.

Posted by: Kathy O. at January 31, 2007 9:22 PM

Jill, Thank you for answering me. Yes, I DID research it, I just thought YOU needed to look into it a bit more since you had made that sweeping statement (and the comment about public toilets was just a personal guess since it is STILL UNEXPLAINED how some women get this). I am glad you found that information when you did the google search. It's not all women that have HPV that have been promiscuous and it hurts when it is assumed that you have. Thank you for understanding that and for posting my comment along with the result of your search. I guess I am one of the unexplained cases indeed.

Posted by: B.P. at February 1, 2007 5:14 AM

Jill have you seen that Texas has become the first state to make this vaccine mandatory?
http://abcnews.go.com/Health/print?id=2845221

Thank God I homeschool, or my own daughter would be expected to receive this vaccine in only 2 years. And she doesn't even know what sex is.

Marissa i read your article and this is what i have to say after reading this, this is to you or anyone thinking of adopting , please adopt! I am adopted and you have no idea how fortunate i am to have a family who loves me! I was adopted from Romania. Born a month before one of the greatest dictators ever to rule a country, Chauchesku was shot. I had developed Pnemionia at 1 month old, and was taken to an orphanage hospital, where a year later i met my new parents. If i hadn't been adopted i probly would have not made it. i am now 17, living in Canada, and i am almost done High school. I will be attending a College next semester, and studying music performance. My dream is to be in Hairspray like you. All this couldn't have happend without my parent today. i would not have a dream to be a star on Broadway, i wouldn't have the same privileges i do today. So if you do make up your mind, i hope you choose to adopt because it is such a beautiful thing! Your amazing and i wake up everyday and thank god that he created such a beautiful being such as yourself!

I think they should not make any vaccine against any disease available. We should not be able to vaccinate our children for tetnus, diptheria, enfluensa, polio, measles, chicken pox, typhoid, yellow fever, small pox or HPV or any other killer of our young. Our children should be be allowed to be culled out of the gene pool. The world is over populated and these diseses would keep the population in check like HIV/AIDS is doing in Africa.
Did I fail to mention my sister and I are compulsive liars?

Posted by: Rob Winokur at February 20, 2007 10:59 AM

I agree with you 100%. If we create a vaccine for everything the world will be over populated. Also another thing that could happen is world leaders can stop supplying a certain country with a vaccine and we could create another war... did i make any sence there? lol Just like the fuel... We're not getting any oil from the middle east and its creating a larger war. I know thats not the only reason but it has something to do with it. I'm just rambling on now, lol i do agree with you though, and what your sister is doing is a good thing, by making people aware of this disease.
