That's what the twerps at LoganTradingco.com are calling it, with this exciting ad:
Be the only one on your block with this exciting keychain! The unborn fetus floats around inside of amniotic fluid, and you can shake Mom around and see all the fine details of baby. The fetus is pretty late-term, and you can see some nice details, including the umbilical cord!Solid rubber and metal construction, so you don't have to worry about her leaking into your pocket or your keys coming loose!
$9.95 each; two for $14.95.
In actuality, I think they're misidentifying the placenta.
Is it Friday? Sure seems like it.

Comments:
Ugh. For some reason, this makes me want to throw up.
Posted by: SamanthaT at May 23, 2007 2:11 PMUhh...right.
That's kind of cool, but kind of weird, all at the same time.
I think the placenta is right.
Posted by: Stephanie at May 23, 2007 2:12 PMWho on earth would use that keychain?!
Posted by: ryanjGross.
Posted by: Bethany at May 23, 2007 2:29 PMis this a pro-life or pro-choice product?
This description makes me thing Pro-life:
"you can shake Mom around and see all the fine details of baby"
I was wondering too Hal.. ad targeting prolife or prochoice, or what???
I think it's closer to the prolife market, for the same reason.
Posted by: Cameron at May 23, 2007 2:53 PMObviously, they made a mistake if they were trying to target pro-lifers.
Posted by: Bethany at May 23, 2007 2:59 PM...that's really creepy looking. Ick.
Posted by: Erin at May 23, 2007 3:25 PMI wasn't sure what this key chain represented. It's kind of a strange idea, but is it about the beauty of pregnancy, or does it have something to do with abortion?
Posted by: Heather4life at May 23, 2007 3:25 PMIn my opinion this keychain is very degrading to both women and babies in the womb.
Imagine if this were a K-9 depiction. PETA would be calling out the FBI.
The womb is a sacred place. It's where God does His handiwork. It's where He crafts the future. To demean it by presentation on a key chain is utterly wrong and trivializes the birth process. Is it any wonder that abortion exists in our midst?
No, this too must be opposed, however, this is just my opinion.
Posted by: HisMan at May 23, 2007 4:20 PMMaybe it's new-wave fertility goddes stuff.
Posted by: Cameron at May 23, 2007 4:21 PMThe site has lots of movie replica stuff. Maybe this was used in some quirky art movie or something?
Posted by: LaurenThe distinct bilateral casting, and the preoccupation with realistic detail suggests that the artifact is probably a religious icon from the pre-digital age, or late quaternary.
Posted by: Cameron at May 23, 2007 4:52 PMI can't imagine anyone actually WANTING to carry this around on their keychain......but then again, some people have those pigs that poop when you squeeze them.
Posted by: JK at May 23, 2007 4:57 PMI don't think this is targeted to either pro-life or pro-choice. Not everything that has to do with pregnancy has a bit "ABORTION" question mark over it.
That's odd, the keychain thing ... but I wouldn't call it gross ... just odd.
Posted by: Leah at May 23, 2007 5:39 PMYou know, if you carry too many keychains it could weigh down your ignition and cause your engine to stall. It happened to my mom once.
Posted by: JK at May 23, 2007 5:47 PMI can't help but laugh at this, every time I read this blog entry. It's probably because I don't know how else to react to it, but man....this keychain just strikes me as incredibly funny for some reason. Man, the things that people will sell!
Posted by: HumanAbstractMy thought is the keychain was created by a foreign culture and was not originally intended to be thought of as a "bloody fetus" at all but a sort of biology novelty.
That is what struck me almost funny, too. (I think my sense of humor is devolving over the course of time and so much focus on this movement.)
Or I'm just weird.
I was in an antique shop a few years back and stumbled on a 2' statue of a woman holding a plate of eyeballs. It cracked me up and I HAD to HAVE THAT STATUE. I knew it was religious but didn't know how. Turns out it was St. Lucy, who was martyred around 300 AD, if I remember right, by a man who wanted to marry her but she refused because she wanted to be a nun. He had her eyeballs plucked out. Now she's the patron saint of eyesight.
I love my St. Lucy. She's downstairs in the family room.
There, that's my bedtime story for the evening.
Posted by: Jill StanekHahaha...you have a statue of a woman holding a plate of eyeballs in your family room?
I can't decide if that's awesome or creepy.
Gotta be a conversation piece though, that's for sure!
Posted by: Erin at May 24, 2007 12:05 AMRegarding the Pat Buchanan quote of the day, the idea seems to be we should outlaw abortion so there will be more white kids?
Posted by: SoMG at May 24, 2007 1:33 AMYup, Buchanan specifically mentions a threat to the "white majority." (I always love it when anti-choicers wail about abortion, contraception and the falling birthrate in this country - and in the same breath whine about immigration. Do we need more people or fewer people?)
Pat Buchanan:
"According to the Census Bureau, from mid-2005 to mid-2006, the U.S. minority population rose 2.4 million, to exceed 100 million. Hispanics, 1% of the population in 1950, are now 14.4%. Their total number has soared 25% since 2000 alone. The Asian population has also grown by 25% since 2000.
The number of white kids of school age fell 4%, however. Half the children 5 and younger in the United States are now minorities.
What is happening to us? An immigrant invasion of the United States from the Third World, as America's white majority is no longer even reproducing itself. Since Roe v. Wade, America has aborted 45 million of her children. And Asia, Africa and Latin America have sent 45 million of their children to inherit the estate the aborted American children never saw.
~ Human Events columnist Patrick Buchanan, May 22
Posted by: Laura at May 24, 2007 4:01 AMDidn't people use to say the same things about Catholic immigrants that Pat Buchanan now says about Mexican immigrants?
Posted by: SoMG at May 24, 2007 5:03 AMBesides, I love burritos.
Posted by: SoMG at May 24, 2007 5:18 AMIn the immortal words of Chris Rock:
"I don't understand what you white boys are all depressed about. Hey, you're white! Smile!"
Erin, yes, Lucy certainly is a conversation starter. I forgot to mention last night she is now the patron saint of the blind, for all the Catholics in the room, which I'm not, although I obviously like religious artifacts.
Actually, here's a portrait of Lucy on Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Lucy
Some older portraits/statues show her with her eyes gouged out. Later ones spare us. My Lucy has her eyes intact.
Posted by: Jill StanekI'm not religious, but I still have a prediliction for Catholic saints. They all have such facinating stories! I will have to get myself a St. Lucy to replace my favorite St. Michael before I lose my sight.
Posted by: Erin at May 24, 2007 10:41 AMThat St. Lucy statue sounds pretty neat. Before I left the Church and I was considering confirmation I was thinking about what saint name to take and I was leaning towards Cecilia at the time, the patron saint of art and music.
I'll have to tell my grandmother, Lucy, that she actually has a saint's name...the patron saint of eyesight which is ironic as my grandmother has terrible vision (she's been partially blind in one eye since birth and has really bad floaters in the other).
I wonder who the patron saint of medicine/science is?
Posted by: Rae at May 24, 2007 11:33 AMOh! I know what this keychain reminds me of!
I can't remember its name, but there was a traveling museum type thing that I wanted to go see. I think it was called "Body Works". They had preserved cadavers that were on display that showed all the insides of the human body. It would have been really cool. Anyway, there was also a pregnant woman who had a hole cut in such a way as to show the fetus inside. I really wish I could have seen it.

I know this isn't as good as the real thing, but it is better than nothing!
Posted by: Bethany at May 24, 2007 12:38 PMYep, that's the one!
Did you get to go? I really wanted to, but I was still in school. =(
Posted by: Stephanie at May 24, 2007 12:52 PMI went to Body Works when it was down in Atlanta, it was really cool. I recommend it to anyone who isn't squeamish!
Posted by: Erin at May 24, 2007 12:56 PMI never have been there, but I know PIP just did recently.... I would actually like to go see it one day, if I ever got to go on a vacation again with just the hubby. :) I don't think i could take the kids... lol
Heh..true. Is it still traveling around? I'd like to go if I get the chance...
Posted by: Stephanie at May 24, 2007 1:09 PMI think they must be...on the front page of their site it has this scrolling:
BODY WORLDS in Dallas +++ BODY WORLDS 2 in Montréal +++ BODY WORLDS 3 in Phoenix +++ Coming soon BODY WORLDS in Charlotte +++ Coming soon BODY WORLDS 3 in Portland +++ Coming soon BODY WORLDS 3 in St. Louis +++
Here's their site:
http://www.bodyworlds.com/en.html
Bwahaha, Body Worlds is exactly what I thought of when I saw this! I bet that's why I started giggling: I had just seen Body Worlds on a James Bond movie and this keychain + James Bond lead to some odd trains of thought.
Posted by: HumanAbstractHa ha ha, my dad took me to see Body Worlds many times. I find it fascinating. As for the keychain, I can't help but laugh at the amount of hatemail these guys must be getting. Their stupidity is quite humorous, at least to me, that is.
Posted by: Dan at May 25, 2007 1:24 AMThey should have at least put a head on the woman.
Posted by: Heather4life at May 25, 2007 7:03 AMI work at a clothing store chain, and it looks like our store display statues (the word escapes me now) only with a clear baby bump. I keep wanting to dress her up!
Posted by: HumanAbstractLess, LOL. How could I forget the clothes? A head, clothes and some arms.
