Eduardo

edwardo3.jpgSome people call Eduardo Verastegui the Brad Pitt of Latin America. The L.A Times named him the "Leonardo Di Caprio of Mexico." I have met the man, and he is all that.

Model, singer, actor, Eduardo had it all by the early 2000s but felt empty.

Eduardo recently made a commitment to himself to "never do anything that contradicts his moral principles or that would misrepresent Hispanics, 'neither in film, nor in television nor in any other media,'" reported CA Catholic Daily on May 6. Part of Eduardo's awakening has been to take a stand against abortion. CCD reported on an interview Verastegui recently gave to Hola magazine:

Abortion, Verastegui told the magazine, is "something so grave, so profound, it goes beyond any philosophy or religion."...
The Mexican actor went on to say there is no justification for abortion. “Let women do with their bodies what they wish, but the baby? What happens to the baby who has no voice and can't defend himself? Perhaps 100 years ago there could have been doubts... that there was life from the moment of conception. But today it is something scientifically proven, there is no doubt."

He said that his own experience has shown that “most women who go there do not want to do it. It is something completely unnatural. I have been to clinics and when I talk with young women, they are scared, they feel alone and without help....

I met Eduardo a couple of times at screenings of his new movie, Bella, which will be released Aug. 15. Bella surprised everyone by winning the People's Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival last fall. Film reviewers picked Death of a President, which showed the fictional assassination of President Bush, as their favorite. Of course.

Bella touches on the issue of abortion and has a pro-life theme. I'll be sure to remind you about it closer to its opening. It's an excellent movie.

Comments:

When it comes to celebrity spokesmen/spokeswomen, the pro-aborts have quantity, but we've got quality.

The idea that life begins at conception is not scientifically proven. It is impossible to prove.

I must say that Brad Pitt does not appeal to me at all. This guy leaves Brad in the dust.

I think he's single. I've seen him at a "Bella" screening in Dallas.

Less,he's pro life. That's why I like him!

Posted by: Heather4life at May 13, 2007 8:01 AM

Heather, if your attraction for men is based solely on their political beliefs, you must have an interesting time of it. Do you also like the men who bomb clinics because they're pro-life, or does that only extend to movie stars?

Posted by: Less Author Profile Page at May 13, 2007 10:07 AM

Less,Nah.Those men that bomb clinics are sociopaths. Kindof like the women that have abortions.

Posted by: Heather4life at May 13, 2007 10:50 AM

Wow, Heather4life, what a hateful and unfounded opinion. Unfortunately, sociopath is no longer a recognized psychological term as far as I'm aware, so I'm afraid you need to do a smidge more research before attempting to use medical terminology for your own ends. The only time that term is really used is as a synonym for a psychopath, or colloquially as a term for someone who has antisocial personality disorder:

Diagnostic criteria (DSM-IV-TR)

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders DSM-IV, a widely used manual for diagnosing mental and behavioral disorders, defines antisocial personality disorder as a pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others occurring since age 15, as indicated by three (or more) of the following:

1. failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest
2. deceitfulness, as indicated by repeated lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure
3. impulsivity or failure to plan ahead
4. irritability and aggressiveness, as indicated by repeated physical fights or assaults
5. reckless disregard for safety of self or others
6. consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain steady work or honor financial obligations
7. lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another

The manual lists the following additional necessary criteria:

* The individual is at least 18 years of age.
* There is evidence of conduct disorder with onset before age 15 years.
* The occurrence of antisocial behavior is not exclusively during the course of Schizophrenia or a Manic Episode.

Women who have abortion don't fit these criteria, well...that comparison fails.

If you meant psychopathology, psychopaths are usually defined as violent members of society without a conscious, with unfounded anger issues, who perpetrate violent actions against victims without reason. They don't attempt to justify their actions, as to them, their actions need no justification. As women who choose to abort generally have justifiable reasons, well...I'm afraid your comparison is rather ignorant.

Posted by: Less Author Profile Page at May 13, 2007 3:00 PM

Oh well.

Posted by: Heather4life at May 13, 2007 4:22 PM

Less,

Been there, done that...

You and midnite agree that woman who have abortions and have now remorse or guilt are not not exhibiting sociopathic behavior.

Heather and I believe that they are.

I don't care whether or not you call the behavior sociopathic, anti social or psychopathic, the fact remains that the "BEHAVIOR" meets the above criteria...

There is a difference between saying that a person is anti social, and a persons behavior is anti social..

3. impulsivity or failure to plan ahead
5. reckless disregard for safety of self or others
7. lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another

You only need 3 criteria to qualify. There's your three...

The act of killing your child and feeling now remorse is to me: a sociopathic, psychopathic or anti-social behavior...

You don't even have to bother to answer because midnite and I have already been there and I know you disagree. That's fine. But our argument is as valid as yours...

I have no idea why I kept typing "now" instead of "no", but I did...sorry!

Posted by: MK at May 14, 2007 6:31 AM

MK, Thank you. I realize that some people take great offense to this, but I am not going to sugar coat it. I think that a woman that has her child killed and feels no remorse, has got to have something wrong with her. I KNOW women like this. They scare me. Also, they are generally very selfish people that I choose not to associate with. I watch them in action. It's all about them!

Posted by: Heather4life at May 14, 2007 8:18 AM

MK, you must have missed this part, so I'll post it again:

The manual lists the following additional necessary criteria:

* The individual is at least 18 years of age.
* There is evidence of conduct disorder with onset before age 15 years.
* The occurrence of antisocial behavior is not exclusively during the course of Schizophrenia or a Manic Episode.

See the bolded part. See also, in the same citation:

a pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others occurring since age 15,

Is it pervasive? Does it have an onset of prior to age 15? No? Than it isn't antisocial personality disorder. Both qualifications also apply for psychopathy.

Posted by: Less Author Profile Page at May 14, 2007 10:18 AM

I would also like to add that abortion is planning ahead: they don't want a kid, so they don't have it. There goes one of your criteria.

Posted by: Less Author Profile Page at May 14, 2007 10:19 AM

That's like saying that hitting a fire hydrant is salutary because I didn't want to hit the pedestrian.

Woulda been better if I wasn't driving like a nut in the first place. ;-)

Posted by: rasqual at May 14, 2007 11:19 PM

Less, having an abortion is NOT planning ahead.
