MSM aborts Planned Parenthood

Suddenly, to have ever been associated with Planned Parenthood is anathema.

Yesterday ABC News excitedly announced, "Romney's Wife Gave Money to Planned Parenthood"! Never mind it was a one-time donation of $150 13 years ago when Romney was a professed pro-abort. So what!

And Monday The Politico revealed pro-abort Rudy Guiliani donated to Planned Parenthood six times totalling $900 throughout the 90s!

Of course, what's going on is MSM is trying to rile conservatives against the GOP, which is nothing new.

But to do so MSM has had to betray PP, which it normally portrays as the Florence Nightingale of reproductive freedom. Here's a typical example of the norm from the far-left Capital Times on May 3, ruing the fact protesters were planning a 40-day vigil at a WI abortion mill:

....the Planned Parenthood clinic, which offers such reproductive health care services as cervical cancer screening and birth control counseling....

How wonderful. PP cures cancer.

wicked witch.jpgBut to provoke a schism between pro-lifers and the Republican Party, MSM has no trouble turning PP into the wicked witch of the womb. From the May 9 ABC piece:

Planned Parenthood is the nation's biggest abortion provider and lobbies actively to expand abortion rights.

Now there's the stark, ugly truth that would repulse almost anyone. It's interesting to see MSM knows all that. It's also interesting to see MSM abort a pro-abort group in an attempt to splinter pro-lifers, which shows how significant it must think we are to the 2008 elections.

The strategy is certainly questionable. There must be some spectacular fights going on behind closed doors.

Comments:

I suppose this is not relevant to the actual post, but....

I absolutely love The Wizard of Oz. It's been my favorite movie since I was a little girl, and that scene you got the picture from is one of my favorites.

Yep.

Jill, awesome post.
Semantics, semantics, semantics.

I see this as legitimate news. Not huge news, but worthy of reporting. Don't you guys want to know which canidates seeking your support also gave money to Planned Parenthood? Sure, they might have an explaination, but it's still interesting. If I was running on a pro-life platform and had given money to CWA, I think I'd have some explaining to do also.

Hal, s/he made the donation 13 years ago when they were professed pro-aborts. It's not news, certainly not worthy of a headline. MSM wrote it purely to confuse pro-lifers and raise doubts about Romney's conversion.

Hal, this was as newsworthy as a headline story would be about Durbin the next time he makes a pro-abortion statement that he once headlined a pro-life event in Springfield. So what?

The MSM (the drive by media) are a bunch of liberal sneaks. Katie Couric refered to PBA as:

"what the law calls partial birth abortion"

..well what the heck do you call it Katie?

Posted by: jasper Author Profile Page at May 10, 2007 12:40 PM

Jill, perhaps you're right. I say "so what" about half the time I see a headline these days. (especially the things Drudge likes to put in huge fonts)

Romeny's views have certainly changed over time. He's admitted that. Voters can judge if it was a real converstion or motivated by his prospective presidential run.

In the end, we probably agree that it's a minor story. Worth reporting, but not as a major headline.

Posted by: Hal at May 10, 2007 12:43 PM

Hal, we're agreeing quite a bit these days... hm...

Posted by: Jill Stanek Author Profile Page at May 10, 2007 1:49 PM

don't worry, I won't even TRY to convert you Jill.

Posted by: Hal at May 10, 2007 2:11 PM

Jasper, the correct term for "partial birth abortion" according to the medical profession is "dialation and extraction." My spelling is awful, admittedly, but what the law calls something and what the doctors who proform it call it differs significantly. One is designed to evoke emotion, the other, to describe the procedure.

Hal... lol... good comeback.

Oh, Less. You obviously get stuck on semantics so you won't have to think about what the words mean. We've gone over this 10 times. The AMA called it partial birth abortion, as does a medical dictionary.

Posted by: Jill Stanek Author Profile Page at May 10, 2007 2:55 PM

Hal, that made me laugh too. :D

Posted by: Bethany Author Profile Page at May 10, 2007 3:17 PM

Hal,

I give credit where its due. A good comeback!

Jill,

Great sense of humor

Less,

You say the proper term for PBA is "dilatation and extraction".
Let me see, the proper term for destroying inconvenient multiple fetuses is "selective reduction"
The proper term for killing and expelling an unwanted populace is "ethnic cleansing"

One term invokes an emotional response, the other describes what is going on.

I told this story before but it probably bears repeating...

At dinner one night I asked my seventeen year old son which phrase evoked a more emotional response.

Partial birth abortion? no response. Or dilation of the cervix and evacuation of the dead fetus.

He got up and left the table.

Nice dinner chat MK!

Holly Cow Gestator of 3... think you can contain that sort of originality?

Do you move your lips when you're typing too?

Posted by: Cameron at May 10, 2007 6:27 PM

Cameron, you knew I had to do it.

Posted by: Heather4life at May 10, 2007 6:31 PM

In all fairness... for a second I considered making the same remark only invoking Jill... but then came to my senses.

Posted by: Cameron at May 10, 2007 6:41 PM

Come on folks, we're starting to sound like children in a sandbox! Let's keep our discussion worthy of us.

Posted by: Mary at May 10, 2007 6:52 PM

Okay,sorry Mary.

Awwww Mary,

Shucks. oooookay...we'll behave...

jasper’s
quote of the day
The pro-life community has been tracking Obama's support for selective infanticide for quite a while, but only recently has there been a national discussion on this issue.

On May 15, I said on Fox and Friends that there's been a media cover-up on this issue. But now the cat's out of the bag.

~ Catholic League President Bill Donohue, on the growing interest in Barack Obama's abortion record, as quoted causa-nostrae-laetitiae in the post, "Jill Stanek may be The One to bring down Barack Obama," August 20
