Weekend; college friends

chihua.jpgNo new posts this weekend, fyi.

I'm probably going to settle into a weekends-off schedule permanently, although I'd like to hear thoughts on that particularly from our college commenters, who seem to come online a lot on Saturday and Sunday. Do you anticipate your summer online schedules will be similar?

There might be ways to adjust, if you want new conversations launched on weekends, like asking some of the site's pro-life stalwarts if they would like to guest post, such as they did while I was on vacation (during which time HisMan garnered the currently held Stanek site comment record of 600+! responses).

Speaking of our blogging college community, I know most will be returning home this weekend and next. Be careful, and be safe.

I was just online looking for collie puppies, came back to check on the site, and was a little tickled to see "spot" relaxing...

Too funny!

Jill,

I'll do it on one condition; you don't turn off the comments. Ha, ha!

Anytime, any place is worth the effort to save one unborn life.

Let me know.

Does this mean I can't rant all I want on the wall for the weekend without being censored??

Posted by: Cam at May 6, 2007 6:36 PM

Cameron,

It's so nice to see you. Not. And once again, no one knows what you're talking about...

Why are you talking to walls?

mk

Posted by: MK at May 6, 2007 8:03 PM

Cameron, do you mean "can"?

You can come back if you stop with the obscenities and threats. Your other assertions, though wild, are typical of a pro-abort and tolerable.

Posted by: Jill Stanek Author Profile Page at May 6, 2007 8:05 PM

Hi Jill,

I'd love to help out/post if you want. But, unfortunately I don't think the college students here like me too much. I do tell the truth though.

I respect you for letting Cam back in. At the leftist blogs, just saying "pro-life" will get you banned forever.

A personal story; my mom was talking to my wife on the phone a couple weeks ago, and she told my wife she came very close to aborting me. I was her seventh child and she was 40 at the time. Luckly she had a good man for a doctor who talked her out of it. I'm 39 now and I never knew this before.. How close I came to being exterminated.

Posted by: jasper at May 6, 2007 8:36 PM

Jasper,

I was adopted. My mother was pregnant with me. My father had gotten another woman pregnant. My mother already had 2 kids, and now the father wanted a divorce to marry "the other woman". She aborted, my mom had me and put me up for adoption. The dad is dead now, and he and the new wife never had any more children. He died very lonely.

How easily my mother could have aborted me too. It's what my father wanted. And this was when abortion was illegal.

Scary, huh?

Hi MK,

Yes,it is scary. Thank-god you're here, you seem like a very nice person. My brother adopted a child through catholic charaties.

By the way, that was a nice post in the other thread about explaining catholism.

God-bless

Wow MK, the Jackson 5! I remember watching that in my living room when I was really small. Good one.

We watched "leave it to Beaver" before school as well.

...and then 10 years later it was Led-Zepplin, Aeromith, Kiss, etc.

Posted by: jasper at May 6, 2007 9:00 PM

Jasper,

That post was pretty enlightening wasn't it.

Jackson Five 1960
Michael Jackson 1980
South Park making fun of Michael Jackson 2000

Actually I think Michael looks better in the South Park version than he does now. That poor guy is messed up.

I used to love Family Classics and Blondie movies too.

I just watched a Jerry Lewis movie with my 6 year old last night. Yikes...

Posted by: MK at May 6, 2007 9:19 PM

Jasper,

I've gotten banned from more pro-life groups than I can count. And they tend to censor things much more than pro-choice groups I've been in, i.e. Jill here loves deleting my comments.

But if you want a blog to comment on without getting banned try http://equalitymeanschoice.com/ the girls there won't ban you unless you say something inappropriate.

MK,

Don't go picking on Michael! Eccentric he might be, but the guy can definitely sing! :)

Posted by: Danielle at May 7, 2007 12:02 AM

Danielle,

This is true. He does have some major talent.

mk

Posted by: MK at May 7, 2007 5:40 AM

Michael Jackson is a genius! But like all geniuses he has his problems.

I refuse to believe the rumors, too. I refuse!

Posted by: prettyinpink Author Profile Page at May 7, 2007 6:58 AM

Yes,I went to a few pro-choice sites. I politely told them that I was pro-life. They deleted me, and never e-mailed with approval.Danielle, I like Micheal Jackson as an artist too. I've seen him live in concert.

Posted by: Heather4life at May 7, 2007 6:59 AM

I wanted to mention that the post abortive women always welcome me to their sites. They are discussing their options, post abortive pain, relationships, etc. It's just the flaming pro choice crowd that will not allow you to participate on their sites. They usually ask for money anyway. What a turn off.

Posted by: Heather4life at May 7, 2007 7:05 AM

Danielle, I did check this site out when I clicked on Dan's name before.

Posted by: Heather4life at May 7, 2007 7:07 AM

Danielle, tell the truth. I only ban you when you swear. I like seeing you post, actually, although for the life of me I don't know why since the only comments you do post here are wild complaints about me or whacky pro-abort assertions.

As for pro-lifers getting banned on pro-abort sites, in January of this year there was a pro-life bloggers conference in DC at which I spoke. Pro-abort bloggers attended and wrote untrue or half-true posts about it and me. I commented once and it was accepted. My second comment was banned.

Posted by: Jill Stanek Author Profile Page at May 7, 2007 7:23 AM

"You can come back if you stop with the obscenities and threats. Your other assertions, though wild, are typical of a pro-abort and tolerable."

Thank you Jill,

I understand and don't fault you with banning me or censoring me when I am lewd and obnoxious. Unlike HisMan however, I have not threatened anyone here, at least not by suggesting violence, and most would readily recognize that the faux creepiness was intended to debase the thread, and not make people uncomfortable. For those who may have been made to feel genuinely uncomfortable, I apologize.

Posted by: Cameron at May 7, 2007 9:18 AM

Cameron, nice of you to apologize. Not sure if you're pulling an Eddie Haskell, but I'll accept it on face value. Welcome back.

Posted by: Jill Stanek Author Profile Page at May 7, 2007 9:27 AM

LOL, It made me think of "Good morning Mrs.Cleaver." "My you look nice today."

Posted by: Heather4life at May 7, 2007 11:34 AM

Cameron -

What you said on here would have gotten you fired at any job for sexual harassment. I think some of us were just a little more than "uncomfortable."

Posted by: Valerie Author Profile Page at May 7, 2007 11:45 AM

Jill,

I know that most adults think very little of websites such a Facebook, but that's where the next generation is and I don't know if you would be proud of the next generation of pro-lifers or disgusted.

I've been banned for simply posting links to medical sites to debunk some of there claims. I've gotten messages calling me a whore and a baby-killer. I've also had a group I was in get turned into a "Secret Group" meaning that only people who are invited by the admin can post (even though the group description says that any and all are welcomed to share there opinions) and the largest pro-life group on Facebook is now closed so that you have to request you join.

Again, I don't know if you'd be proud or disgusted, but they've memorized the pro-life rhetoric and have a jolly good time condemning us all with bible quotes.

Posted by: Danielle at May 7, 2007 1:01 PM

Danielle, I apologize if you receive poor treatment from young pro-lifers. I will say many of your posts are caustic and may draw fire, but that is no excuse for return fire.

I would guess that being young, many are immature and don't know how to handle debate. So they cut you off because they haven't thought through all the answers.

They may also have young, thin skins and are not able to handle the criticism we old, tough skins can.

Make sense?

Posted by: Jill Stanek Author Profile Page at May 7, 2007 1:13 PM

Danielle,

I looked at the other website you posted.
What is this one? Do you have a link?

I know that most adults think very little of websites such a Facebook, but that's where the next generation is and I don't know if you would be proud of the next generation of pro-lifers or disgusted.

Danielle,

This is the link I looked at.
http://equalitymeanschoice.com/

Is Facebook the same thing?

Posted by: MK at May 7, 2007 5:08 PM

Hi gang,

Most of the 'debate' so far has revolved around the idea that abortion-is-illogical ... with each side trying to outscore the other .... SamanthaT put it rather succinctly ... she could not resolve being involved in the killing of her own child ... too many others pro-choicers can, by obfuscating any rationality and strongly advocate feelings instead. I suspect that most decisions to abort are purely emotional [irrational] and have as much to do with logic [rationality] as has a pregnant woman craving mustard on her ice-cream.

Knowing that stopping anyone set on an emotional path is very difficult, I suggested the zinc flux exerts a huge influence here. Supplementing (50mg zinc + 5mg copper + 500-1000mg taurine each day throughout pregnancy) is a little thing that anyone can do ..... [It returns emotional-normalcy.] Just to see if it does work in practice as it does in theory, are there any takers? Even one? Why not give this a try? Are not yours and your baby's life worth it?

MK,

This is facebook: http://www.facebook.com

But in order to post in any groups you would have to create a facebook account. Which would be easier to do now that's open to more than just college students. If you join search Stop Planned Parenthood, Abortion is Murder, and Pro-life.

Posted by: Danielle at May 7, 2007 10:34 PM

Danielle,

I just went to the one called Stop Planned Parenthood. Granted I didn't go back more than 10 pages, but so far the only person with an attitude was somebody named Amanda, and she was pro-choice. Everyone else was extremely gracious sounding. There is even what appears to be a seminarian (Priest in the making). There was one other girl named Therese W (also pro-choice) who was not only unkind but admitted it and apologized.

Going next to Abortion is Murder...

mk

Posted by: MK at May 8, 2007 6:29 AM

Danielle,

Abortion is Murder wouldn't let me in.
Went to Pro-Life.

Gotta say I can't even tell who is pro-choice and who is pro-life on that one. Everyone is extremely crude and vulgar and I couldn't find one actual discussion about abortion. I'd ban the whole sight if I was a moderator.

But honestly, I didn't get a sense that pro lifers were being rude and attacking pro-choicers on either site. Maybe you could show me exactly which posts you are referring to...

Sorry, I really tried. I was going to lay into the pro lifers if I found out they were acting in a way that gave the whole movement a bad name. But I just didn't see it. Not saying it doesn't happen, just couldn't find it.

mk

Posted by: MK at May 8, 2007 6:34 AM

MK, The same thing happened to me. I was never able to post a comment, so I finally gave up.

Posted by: Heather4life at May 8, 2007 7:50 AM

It's me again!

It's likely time for me to just retire. After posting about zinc deficiency = abortion-related maternal depressive states numerous times and being totally ignored, guess people just prefer to fight.

In case you were wondering: emotional involvement in any medical decision is always considered contra-indicated. [It seems abortion is THE exception to this 'rule'. It is for Tiller the main reason for his late-term abortion advocacy.]

Good luck .......

Posted by: John McDonell Author Profile Page at May 8, 2007 7:55 AM

John, this isn't good-bye, is it? No! I'm sure people have heard your information on zinc and may have nothing else to say about it. Stay and discuss other issues!

Posted by: Jill Stanek Author Profile Page at May 8, 2007 8:08 AM

John,

Don't be hurt. I didn't respond because I went to bed early last nite. Also this is on a thread from way down on the list and sometimes you get so busy reading the recent ones that you never get back to the earlier ones.

You can't divorce us. It's against our religion.

I always read your posts and Jill is right. When you talk about zinc I take them as more of a learning thing. I have actually looked zinc up on the net because of you.

But it doesn't relate all that much to the actual abortion "fight" and so I always think that you are just "teaching" on those posts.

We love you. You musn't go. We need you.
Your voice is as important as the rest of ours and without you our "voice" won't be hole...

Now get back to the computer and the issues at hand. Don't make me get your father...

mk

Posted by: MK at May 8, 2007 8:25 AM

John, Don't leave!! I haven't seen your posts lately!

Posted by: Heather4life at May 8, 2007 8:57 AM

John!

You are the Zinc nut
I am the Naturopathy nut

You can't leave!

I'll be left all alone with these people! That would be scary!

Danielle:
"Again, I don't know if you'd be proud or disgusted, but they've memorized the pro-life rhetoric and have a jolly good time condemning us all with bible quotes."

I'm not a big fan of uncivil behavior, but for my part I'm entirely indifferent to concern about civility and even stupidity when what's at stake is human life. True, they're not good apologists for the cause if they're alienating people. But the fact that people are alienated at all by rhetorical boors -- while still maintaining indifference to unborn life destroyed by people doing far worse things than engaging in boorish rhetoric (like, tearing limbs from unborn bodies) -- is itself a hellish irony. I find abhorrence of pro-life boors, under such a circumstance, itself something of a perversion.

Until pro-choice folk repent of killing the unborn, as far as I'm concerned their distaste for pro-life boors is a matter for wry scorn on my part. The chasm between their reactions to the latter and their indifference to the former is so huge it's really, really difficult for me to be in the least sympathetic.

At the same time, from a standpoint of wisdom and apologetics for the pro-life view, I'd happily participate in an upside-the-head whacking session with the boors on the pro-life side. ;-)
