Clone and kill bill IV: Epilogue, defeat

sad faces4.jpgFrom National Right to Life, tonight:

The U.S. House of Representatives today rejected a bill, deceptively labeled as a ban on human cloning, that actually would have allowed large-scale cloning of human embryos solely for purposes of research....

The vote on the bill, H.R. 2560, was 204 to 213 - short of a majority, and 74 votes short of the two-thirds majority that was required for approval under the fast-track procedure that the House Democratic leadership used to try to rush the bill through less than a day after its introduction....

The bill... was introduced by Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Co.) only Tuesday night, and brought to the House floor early the next day (today) under a procedure... usually employed for noncontroversial matters. The language of the bill was not even available on the official congressional website when the measure was debated on the House floor.

Comments:

I am thankful it was rejected.

Sorry you don't get it Beth. Again... a tool of Jill's cherrypicked and otherwise missleading disinformation.

Currently human cloning FOR REPRODUCTIVE PURPOSES is not banned, and that was the sole and exclusive purpose of this bill... it's laughable that you all would spin it as a clone and kill protection act simple because it doesn't go further... particularily given Jill's incrementalist notions. You all apparently would take nothing over something... no matter how universally ethical the something.

Just in case your too dim witted to understand... allow me to reitterate... currently, use of cloned human embryos for stem cell research is NOT BANNED, and it is an active area of research that is not likely to ever get banned short of abandoning the constitution. The bill was brought to the floor as a sort of primer, in advance of the stem cell bill in the pipes, in order to see how many repugs were in the pockets of special interest pro-life absolutist nut jobs... and if they have enough votes to over ride a veto for stem cell. They now know who's going to vote which way on the stem cell people, and can lean on them. It will be interesting to see how many of these special interest absolutists back away from pro-life in order to get their pet projects passed later down the road. I'm giddy with anticipation, however I really doubt Jill's going to follow-up on this any sort of reporting... seeing how she pretty much just cut-n-pastes her stuff from prolife and world net.... absent any capacity to explore the world herself.

I'm confused. Was that a lose/lose situation?

Not at all MK.

You all could've banned reproductive clones, but they chose to grandstand instead. GOP's been played like marionette in this case.

A dimwitt is asking if someone else is too dim witted to understand something! LOL

No Cam, we didn't fall for your sides sneaky tricks.... So, they have to disguise the real meaning of the bill and try to fool people.

We have to be careful because their side is full of clever lawyers who's sole purpose is to pull these kind of stunts

No tricksiess Golem!

Pretty straight forward ban on reproductive cloning, but you all wanted all or nothing (e.g. "half a loaf" v. "no loaf'). Good job, I can still cloan myself now.

You've never heard the term "cherrypicked" before the Rosie/Elizabeth fight? You need to get out more.
