In response to a 1:40 video contest challenge to make a video under 1:30 on the topic of social unrest by a guy named SeanBedLam, of whom I was not hip enough to be previously aware, in came this June 6 entry from Elaina43:
Elaina43 really wants to win. She even submitted a video plea on June 8 requesting a big a** favor of us to vote for her video. She was excited that Sean commended her video, saying, "This is a fantastically good video and I'm in love with it."
I agree. The reasons Elaina listed for legalized abortion were fabulous. In fact, I wrote Elaina this morning recommending she take her video off of embed mode on YouTube so bloggers could publicize it. I'm happy to report she has done so.
Here were Elaina's arguments:
1. Preborn babies should be killed to avoid placing them in uncertain adoptive homes.2. Preborn babies of poor and uninsured mothers should be killed.
3. Abortion minded mothers would make bad parents anyway.
4. Preborn babies whose mothers are atheists should be aborted.
5. Preborn babies have no souls anyway.
Great points, Elaina43! Great last line! Vote for Elaina43! Vote here by July 4!

JK, you want that recipe?

Posted by: JK at June 11, 2007 5:05 PM1 whole frying chicken
Marinade
1/2 C fresh lemon or lime juice
1/2 C fresh orange juice
1/3 C olive oil
1 can, 12 oz. beer **(Bud Light is the best)**
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1/4 C minced cilantro
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
Mix all marinade ingredients together.
Place chicken in a large plastic zipper bag and pour in the marinade,
squeeze excess air from the bag and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or
overnight.
Preheat grill to medium-hot temperature.
Place a roasting pan on the grill, open a can of beer and carefully sit the
chicken on top of the open can and set both the can and the chicken in the
roasting pan on the grill
The beer will everporate during cooking, make sure to baste the bird from the inside.
Brush the chicken with reserved marinade every 20 minutes.
Depending on how big the chiken is -IT should be cooked in about an hour,
Posted by: midnite678 at June 11, 2007 5:26 PMooh and for great asparagus, put it on the grill and marinade it in lemon pepper sauce (you can buy it in the grocery store).

1) Assuming, in the spirit of Jill's post, that you are being facetious, it is incredibly rude to degrade someone based on her physical appearance. We crusade to save babies who would be aborted based on such superficial terms. Having been on the receiving end of such criticism, it is entirely inappropriate to post such comments on the internet, of all places, where it is accessible to anyone and essentially permanent.
2) Snide comments do not become you. For all you know, Cameron is Jill in disguise. Adults debate like adults, and children like children. And if it walks like a duck...

That recipe sounds amazing. I can NOT wait to try it. I'm all alone for lunch this whole week, so ...
Uhh ... I think Jill must have been being sarcastic. I would think that someone else hacked, except her restating of Elaina's reasons ... they're said in a very pro-lifey sort of way (ie: the word "killed") and also they're restated to sound ridiculous.

Posted by: SamanthaT at June 11, 2007 7:06 PMSamathaT,
You didn't answer my question. Let's say the election was tomorrow. Knowing what you know about the candidates at this time, who would you vote for?
It's a simple question...

Someone who is truly pro-life does not vote for a pro-abortion canidate, especially for a high position like President of the U.S where he/she has the power to nominate supreme court and federal judges...
@Jasper: That is such a stupid way of voting. I hope you realize that one-issue voters are the ones that gave us the incompetent monkey we currently have in office. As far as I'm concerned, one-issue voting is killing this country and democracy in general.
Posted by: Rae at June 11, 2007 8:01 PMJasper, I do not vote for people solely on one issue, as I have told you, nor do I base my decision on the opinion of someone I have never met, who appears on the internet to be a radical fundamentalist. I do not believe that a person can be categorized based on her choice for a candidate in a two-party system, and I think that some issues are at least as important as abortion, such as the timeframe for bringing the troops home from Iraq. If you do not have a younger brother in the special forces, you might not identify with this, but your opinion is not necessarily the right one.
Posted by: SamanthaT at June 11, 2007 8:01 PMJasper did you take US History in High School or College? Let me refresh your memory. Just b/c the Pres. nominates someone does not automaticaly mean they get into office. The Congress can veto the nomination. You're problem is that the Senate and House (if I am remembering coreectly) is mainly Democratic now. So, it really doesnt matter who the Pres is when it comes to nominating. Sorry.
And you should vote soley on someone's abortion issue. There are problems plaguing this country worse than abortion. Try voting for their stance on those issues.

Posted by: Rae at June 11, 2007 8:30 PMRae,
As far as I'm concerned, one-issue voting is killing this country and democracy in general.
Um...actually abortion is killing this country...to the tune of 45,000,000 dead so far and counting...
Looking at it from your point of view I understand where you are coming from...but try to see it this way: If it was 5 year old children that were being killed instead of fetuses, and one guy running for pres. said "No more killing 5 year olds because they are a burden, or imperfect, or you want to finish school", and the other guy said "I don't like killin' em. I'm actually against killin' 'em! But I don't believe I should interfere with a persons personal choice to off kindergartners..."
Well you get my point...no matter what else candidate A was sayin', as long as he was willing to fight to put an end to killing 5 year old kids, you'd probably vote for him...am I wrong.
To us, there is no difference between a "fetus", newborn, five year old, 22 year old, or 96 year old. That's why we vote on a single issue.
If you want us to vote on some other issue, then end abortion and I'll be the first to say...Thank God! Now I don't have to vote for the Bush's anymore! See?
Posted by: MKYes, midnite, it does matter, the senate is just about split, so all the rebups need is 1 dem vote to get to 50 for confirmation.

Posted by: midnite678 at June 11, 2007 8:52 PMFrom the FRC
"311 Million Reasons to Contact Your Leaders
Hoping to lure more Republicans to support the upcoming appropriations bill, House Democrats surprised everyone by voting to increase the amount of abstinence-education funding from the $137 million that President Bush requested to $141 million. Although the measure still faces debate in the full House, the growing support for the Community Based Abstinence Education (CBAE) program looks promising. Unfortunately, the compromise over abstinence funding comes at a price. In exchange for boosting the CBAE funds, Democrats want tens of millions more in Title X "family planning services." Last week, committee members voted to raise the Title X from $283 million to $311 million! According to a new report by one of the biggest recipients of those dollars, Planned Parenthood, the increased funds would almost certainly work hand in neoprene glove with the organization's booming abortion services. The 2005-2006 Planned Parenthood Annual Report shows that the organization performed a record 264,943 abortions in 2005 yet did not record a single adoption referral. With assets totaling more than $839 million, Planned Parenthood hardly needs a government handout. Contact your representatives and ask them to invest your tax dollars in the one form of pregnancy and disease prevention that never fails--abstinence."
Talk to your Representative in Congress!

@JK: Lawlz...I love that quote. And by red I mean "republican", not "communist" as communism is pretty much dead and not really a threat.
Posted by: Rae at June 11, 2007 8:55 PMHere's his advert: You know I have a bum of a son (as opposed to a son of a bum) who is one credit shy of a degree and now living in Cal. He's what we call a free spirit (which is a nice way of "WHEN ARE YOU GONNA GET A REAL JOB?) He loves dogs, pirates (never ninjas) and wants to travel and do some kind of "missionary work" except he doesn't want to do it in the name of religion. He's looking for a girl that wants to have oodles of kids and raise them in some foreign country where he can do "good deeds". That or he wants to be a Chicago Fireman.
He'll always be poor, but tons of fun. For awhile he wanted to be a professional surfer (we kept telling him he didn't live near an ocean), then he wanted to write the great american novel (we told him he should try reading a novel first, now he's teaching at a YMCA somewhere in Long Beach...He lived for a year in Macomb (where he was going to school) without plumbing, electricity or heat...(denies wanting to be the next unibomber...He's 25.
Heck I'll pay you to take him!
You'll find his pic on the previous post...We're up to $30.00, double if you take the dog...
Posted by: MKehhh, JK, I still stand by my vote. I dont agree with alot of what Bush is done, but I think he did the best he could in the given situation. I mean if a democrat had been in office during 9/11 and afterwards, everyone would be complaining about him. I wish the troops would come home soon. I am sick of my friends getting deployed to Iraq all the time. I am sick of worrying about them and getting scared with a person in their unit gets killed. But I'd think the same things if Kerry had been office too, so I think it's a moot point. Any Pres. would be under fire if he'd been in office during this time.

Hey, step back. Cameron deserves a few jovial jabs after all of the insulting childish comments he has thrown my way along with every other pro-life supporter on this sight.
Let me think.....hmmm...a few examples......stupid, moron, idiot, oh, the latest smutty remark I think qualifies too.
So "he started it"
My comment:
"And what a cutie she is I might add."
was more of an observation of her charming personality and attitiude than physical appearance.
I do try to have a sense of humor once and a while.
I am also tired of having to worry about my friends in Iraq. One of my major issues with Bush and the war is that he is so gung ho about sending other people into harm's way but he made sure that he himself didn't have to go to Vietnam back in the day. How can you lead people where you refuse to go yourself? That's why I voted for Kerry. I would rather have a "war president" who has actually been to war.

She will however, bring in the newpaper, roll over dead when you shoot her (which I am tempted to do often), play hide and seek with her toys (she actually does that "hot"-"cold" thingy), won't bite (people) and loves the bunny. (although before she got to know Lucy, she was bringing me dead bunnies for awhile, and today she killed an opossum - and no, it wasn't just playin' dead, it was dead). And she kinda looks like lassie. She definitely sheds like lassie...

On Sunday at 3 p.m., Paris Hilton phoned me collect from jail. Prisoners must call collect.
The unusual conversation came about because Kathy Hilton, Paris' mother, had phoned me, and while we were talking, Paris called on the other line. When she heard I was talking to her mother, she said she'd like to talk to me herself.

She sounded tired but totally aware of what she was saying.
"How are you?" I asked.
Paris answered, "I'm hanging in there." But she declared, "I feel as if I'm a different person. I've dropped my appeal. I don't want to cause any more problems."
I asked what happened in the jail that led to her being released or reassigned to her home. She said she had not been wailing, sobbing or screaming as had been described.
"But," she said, "I was not eating or sleeping. I was severely depressed and felt as if I was in a cage. I was not myself. It was a horrible experience."
"How are you different?" I asked.
"I'm not the same person I was," she said. "I used to act dumb. It was an act. I am 26 years old, and that act is no longer cute. It is not who I am, nor do I want to be that person for the young girls who looked up to me. I know now that I can make a difference, that I have the power to do that. I have been thinking that I want to do different things when I am out of here. I have become much more spiritual. God has given me this new chance."
I asked what kinds of things she might want to do.
She said she would like to help in the fields of breast cancer — her grandmother had breast cancer — or multiple sclerosis. Her father's mother suffers from that disease.
She thought she might get toy companies to build a kind of Paris Hilton playhouse, where sick children might come, and the toy companies could donate toys.
She has had a person whom she described as a spiritual adviser who said, "My spirit or soul did not like the way I was being seen and that is why I was sent to jail."
"God," she said, "has released me."

Posted by: midnite678 at June 11, 2007 10:01 PMMidnite,
She doesn't like other dogs ever since the son I can't sell let her get attacked by some pit bulls when he had her down at his school.
So when a big, happy, chocolate lab came to greet her at a fence we were passing, she went ballistic.
She pulled the baby stroller over and while I'll was keeping the baby from falling out, the dog lunged and my knee went that way, while my foot stayed in one place.
I couldn't move for twenty minutes, screaming baby, lunging dog, and when I could finally talk again I used a few choice words in a VERY LOUD voice...the dog never stopped lunging. But the chocolate lab sat down at attention and never made another sound. I was 6 blocks from home, and 8 blocks from my kids school (which is where I was headed). Crawled to a curb and sat there for forty five minutes waiting for my mother to come and get me. She just kept driving up and down the neighborhood till she found me. Wasn't exactly hard to spot...
And the dog still lives...tho I have heard chocolate isn't good for dogs. She ate an ant trap the other day, and I thought, "well that should take care of the problem!"...but no, like a cockroach after a nuclear blast, she still lives. And lives. And lives...

Enough said.
eeek, Chow Chow's I forgot about those little shiznits. I dont like them either. One lived behind my parents house and would attack the fence when I played outside. Posted by: jasper at June 11, 2007 10:32 PMOh Rae, not all nig dogs are mean, but I can see how that could traumatize a child. stick to the ball of fur, they're cuter than big dogs any way...
Posted by: midnite678 at June 11, 2007 10:36 PMJasper,
My Goodness, you're lucky all that got hurt was your wifes ankle! That dog looks powerful! And I agree that it looks like it might have husky in there.
Do your boys share a birthday? I have two born on the same date, 5 years apart.
Your family looks wonderful. Those boys are cute!
Having 5 myself, (boys, not kids), I empathize with your wife. Couldn't you get her a girl dog?
oh my god, that was supposed to be big dogs, I totally hit the wrong key, my bad guys!!!

I must say you are not what I imagined. That's a good thing though. You're kids are absolutely precious btw.
Posted by: midnite678 at June 11, 2007 10:42 PMYes, the boys are 2 years and 1 month apart.
Maybe the next with be a girl Dog. Wow, you have 5 boys! My mother did too, and 2 girls..
My favorite thing to do is to get down on ground and fight with him .....

Rae, I'm tired of it as well. I have a family member over there and a very good friend of mine over there as well. I went days without hearing from him and started to think the worst had happened. Since a former schoolmate recently died in Iraq, the possibility of my dear friend Chuck has become a sad reality.
"Dont like doberman pinchers or rotwilers either."
Midnite, I don't have any experience with Dobermans (I do think they're quite the attractive breed, though), but my family used to have a rottweiler. He was a big baby...but we had to give him up when he attacked a neighbor's chow =/
German shepherds are by far my favorite breed, though.

Your dog is quite the cutie.
Oh, I can't wait until December to get a pet!
Posted by: Heather B. at June 12, 2007 7:31 AMHi MK,
Really did not know just how to express the ‘problem’ I feel. Instead of becoming ever more sensitive creatures, we tend to be so aggressive that it blunts us from becoming ever weaker and dependant on others. Babies do not fight for dominance with each other then why should we?
We also make some silly assumptions about each other … Less loves to chuckle and say that we are “sending her to hell”. Truth is she’s running away from being sensitive and will love to hide away from God for all eternity …. We will not have to send her anywhere … the iceberg she calls love (which is sex) will find its home in the pit we call hell = self-absorption. Midnite, Lyssalie, Rae, JK, and others seem to be in the same boat … MANY OF US ARE pro-lifers too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The poem reminded me of my path towards the sensitivity of a babe … not the shell of the crusty old. The words come from one of the comments on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JDTAqsMNEM&mode=related&search=
I asked ‘Why we are like this?’ ANSWER (I think) ……………
"If we are unable to connect with others to some extent, if we cannot at least
imagine the potential impact of our actions on others, then we have no
means to discriminate between right and wrong, between what is appropriate
and what is not, between harming and non-harming."

the negative side of the Internet. Today: Cyberbullying
I) What is Cyber Bullying?
Bullying is not like it used to be. Nowadays abuse lashes out beyond the school yard into children’s homes via technology - creating new kinds of bullies and new kinds of weapons.
Equally alarming is that a child you know may be as likely to become one of the bullies as one of the victims!
Bill Belsey, teacher and founder of bullying.org and cyberbullying.ca, describes the many facets of this new menace. “Cyberbullying involves the use of information and communication technologies such as e-mail, cell phone and pager text messages, instant messaging (IM), defamatory personal Web sites, and defamatory online personal polling Web sites, to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behaviour by an individual or group, that is intended to harm others.”
II) How It Differs from Schoolyard Bullying
“The incidence of cyberbullying is higher among females than males.
“43% of teens report that they have experienced some form of cyberbullying in the past year.
“Cyberbullying is most prevalent among 15 – 16 year olds.”
[From Harris Interactive “Trends and Tudes” Vol. 6, #4. April 2007]
Cyberbullying “is not just schoolyard bullying delivered online. Cyberbullying is very different from schoolyard bullying. The anonymity and problems associated with cyber-communications and how they are misunderstood or mis-sent make it different. Different kinds of kids (for the most part) become cyberbullies than school yard bullies – the technology levels the playing field between the physically strong and the cybersmart
“The methods used are limited only by the child's imagination and access to technology. And the cyberbully one moment may become the victim the next. The kids often change roles, going from victim to bully and back again.
“Girls, techies, smaller kids can all be as tough or tougher than the schoolyard bullies when online.
“Technology levels the playing field and cause kids to think they don’t have to be accountable for their actions.
“They think they are anonymous and don’t have to face their victims eye-to-eye.”
(StopCyberbullying.org)
III) Take Action!
View the following four, short, one-minute videos to experience the impact of cyberbullying first hand.
Kids enjoy learning through technology! We invite parents, grandparents, and youth leaders to consider sharing some of these videos with youth as a springboard to discussing cyberbullying.
(Note: At the links below, the volume control is in the bottom right corner of the movie screen beside the speaker icon.)
1) “Talent Show” at http://www.ncpc.org/media/cyberbullying.php
(Warning: The video “Kitchen” contains explicit language)
The following three videos are available at http://www.netsmartz.org/resources/reallife.htm
2) “Broken Friendship”: A friendship is broken when a teen gives her best friend's password to some other girls at school.
3) “You Can’t Take It Back”: A teen regrets his participation on a web site created to rate others at his school.
4) “Feathers in the Wind”: Once you have sent something online, you can’t take it back and you have lost control of what is done with it
Heather B and Rae,
I in no way trivialize your concerns for friends and loved ones in Iraq, and I commend and thank them for their service, bravery, and you both as well for your own personal sacrifices. How ironic that they would be in considerably more danger walking the streets of some American cities.

John,
It's incredible what human beings will do to each other to make themselves feel better!
While I don't believe Sandy was picking on the woman above's looks, (I agree, it was more her "attitude" that she was comparing to Cameron), Samantha was right to say that calling people harmful names is despicable.
Teens have so much to overcome as it is. I remember telling my boys when they were growing up that they shouldn't "attack" each other. The world will do enough of that, and home is the one place you should be able to go where you know nobody is going rip into you. It should always be a "safe" place. Those of us who "know better" should apply the same thing to the rest of the world. It's our job to make sure that people feel loved, safe and welcome. Whether they are teens, old, disabled or unborn...
Thanks for the post...It was really eye opening.
SOMG and Cameron should take special notes!
Eat pro-lifers for lunch, indeed!

Posted by: Heather B. at June 12, 2007 9:23 AMMK,
A good point about personal appearance. Isn't it interesting though that its always a woman's appearance that is relevant and never the man's?
I've been very distressed to see the physical appearance of sexual assault victims discussed. If she's unattractive she's not worthy of belief, if she's attractive then she "enticed" her attacker.
The women who accused Clinton were openly ridiculed about their physical appearance, often times by men and women who I thought would never win any beauty contests themselves.
I remember the lady prosecutor of OJ Simpson changing her hair and fashion style because of comments. I've also seen the makeup, clothing, and physical appearances of female politicians discussed.
I can name any number of prominent men who don't make my heart go pitter-pat, but when was the last time we heard a discussion on their need for face-lifts, hair plugs and fitness trainers?
Let's face it MK, men can look like pitbulls but its always open season on any woman no matter how attractive she may or may not be.
Ahhhh.....I was looking for a scene from Gilmore Girls on YouTube where Paris talks about this briefly but I can't find it.
Here is a cute puppy tho (not mine)

Posted by: JK at June 12, 2007 10:24 AMWow - I missed all the fun last night!
I do feel compelled to respond to the dog conversation.
Someone said "They'll (Pit Bulls) turn on their master for no apparent reason. Dont like doberman pinchers or rotwilers either."
Whenever I hear someone say this I think "Racial Profiling is a bad thing!" Except here it is doggy profiling. ;-)
The Pit Bulls that turn on their owners are not TRUE Pit Bulls. They are man's manipulation of the breed that have made them this way. It is so sad to see those poor dogs after a dog fight. I have had to care for many of them. Some are scary, some are the sweetest dogs you will ever meet. But, that is true of all breeds.
Doberman's and Rotts are the sad victims of man's manipulation too. It breaks my heart to hear that people are afraid of them. They are actually two of the best breeds to have with a family. Watch a dog show and see what they are suppose to look like. Then you'll realize that what you 'see on the streets' are mixed breeds.
Okay - Lesson over for today. ;-)
I guess those that are afraid of big dogs probably don't want to hear about my Newfoundland and English Mastiff huh?
Valerie,
You have an English mastiff? What do you think of the breed overall?
We had one the same time we had the rottweiler. She thought she was a lap dog and was so sweet-tempered I was able to ride her around the back yard like she was a horse :P.
Posted by: Heather B. at June 12, 2007 4:04 PMValerie,
I know what you mean about Rott's. I always think of Good Dog Carl. The problem is that Rotts and Dobies have been bred for hundreds of years to be protectors, and if not trained they can think they are protecting the wrong thing. Like me.
But a well trained Rott or Dobie is a sight to behold. It's because of those dog shows that I learned to "appreciate" the breed. And you'll notice I didn't say "hate", just don't care for.
Truth is, there are no bad dogs. Just bad matches. If the owners don't do their research they can end up with...well, my dog. (Not true, I love her...but I didn't know what her "other half" was when I got her. Only knew her mother was a Show Collie, so I took a chance. Little bugger turned out to be half border collie, which happens to be one of my favorite breeds...as long as they live at your house.) But so many people get terriers and wonder why they bark so much and dig, or hounds and can't understand why they wander and eat the garbage, or german shepherds and can't figure out why they won't let the mailman deliver the mail! Do your research people. A week or two of reading up on breeds can save 17 years of headaches.
As for Mastiffs and Newfies? I LOVE THEM! I love any breed that thinks exercise is getting up and walking to the food dish. Lumps, those two breeds. I love lumpy dogs. Do you get hair plastered to the walls where they've drooled? Great Danes and Irish Wolfhounds are more of my favs. But Lassie will always be my best, most favoritest!
Posted by: MKMK:
Great Danes and Irish Wolfhounds are more of my favs.
Oh, I want a Great Dane and an Irish Wolfhound. I think they're both gorgeous. I love big dogs.
Posted by: Heather B. at June 12, 2007 5:23 PMSamantha, Manx do have a lethal tail condition, yes. If you breed two tailless Manxes together, any resulting kittens will be stillborn, as their spines are lethally shortened. Unfortunately, due to show standards, there's a huge pressure to breed true tailless cats, so sometimes people do it anyway. It's very, very, sad. :(
Just to jump in on the pit bull debate, I had a family friend who had a purebred pit. She was absolutely the sweetest dog I had ever met. And so patient! She would let me ride her and everything, never showed any aggression at all. I don't know much about Dobermans and rotts, though. I desperately want a Mastiff, though: they're so lumpy and fluffy and drool-y. I have a fondness for the drool-y dogs.

Heather B -
I will never be without an English Mastiff in my life. She is wonderfull. She is more of a couch potatoe than me! Excercise? What's that? Unless it is to play fetch, but then she will only do that for about 5 minutes. My son used her head as a step stool to get on the sofa, My daughter uses her head as a seat. She could care less, sometimes she doesn't even stop snoring when they climb on her. We have slobber on the floors, walls and ceiling. You do have to be carefull with Mastiff's (English, Bull, French in particular) being teritorial. No one is allowed between me and the kids or come into the yard when we are outside.
Overall - I think the English Mastiff is a great family dog. Bull Mastiff's can be tempermental, French Mastiff's are a bit aggressive and the Neopolitan's are goofballs. There are more Mastiff's, but those are the breeds I have had lots of contact with.
For those wanting a Giant Breed dog (Not large, but Giant. Mastiff, Newfie, Great Dane, Irish Wolfhound....anything well over 100 pounds.) Remember that they need extra nutrition than just kibble. They can have serious joint and hip problems without a proper diet. And Puppy's can get a bone growth problem that makes the leg bones curve and twist - very painful - if given the wrong amounts of protein VS fat. As adults, they really don't eat that much - but vet bills can be outrageous. Training is easy with Giant breeds as long as you go slowly and at their pace. They can't be rushed for anything!
I agree with MK - Research everything and then research some more. I also tell people to rescue. There are sooooo many abandoned/stray dogs it is heart breaking. Most full breeds have a breed specific rescue group too. We got our Newfie from rescue when he was 2 years old. He was sweet, but needed ALOT of training. He is a great dog now. (my hubby would disagree - they don't get along. the Newfie was abused by a man so he challenges most men.)
Okay - lecture over. I hope I answered you question! What was that question again? hmmm...
Posted by: ValerieValerie,
As much as I would love to have a giant dog, it would overpower me quite easily.
I have my sights set on a German shepherd or German shepherd mix when I move into a place that allows pets. They are my favorite breed.

Posted by: lyssie at June 13, 2007 8:11 AMHeather B -
Just an FYI - Giant dogs are easily trained. I walked both my dogs at the same time when I was 8 months pregnant. I am almost 5'3" and 130 pounds and together they weigh 300 pounds. They can only overpower you if you let them.
German Shephards are great dogs! Be a bit careful with German Shephard mixes - some people have tried to mix wolf hybrid in and it is causing some behavior problems. When the shelters get them, they don't have any info so they list them as shephard mix. Read up on wolf hybrids (they are illegal in some states/counties) and get to know the body structure. The behavior problems are not necessarily aggressive, but extremely difficult to train on the easy stuff - potty training in particular. (Wolf hybrids can be the most stubborn dogs I have ever seen!)
Posted by: ValerieWow, talented group! Bagpipes get me every time. How long do they take to learn?
Jill, it all depends on the person. I picked them up fairly easily. It's recommended that you start for a year on a practice chanter, then move on to actual pipes. Traditionally, you studied under a master for years before you were allowed to pipe.
Ringo, the guy who teaches pipes at SJNMA, was my instructor my last year there, and he is considered one of, if not the, best bagpipers in the world. Under his tutelage, I picked up many different tunes that I would've never been able to learn.
