"What women deserve"
Over at the liberal blog Feministing, commenters were getting depressed Friday. Example:
I think reading Feministing (and Feministe) might be negatively affecting my mental health. Every f***ing day I read stories about sh** like this... and feel like the rape culture is literally closing in on me.
Yes, we're the "rape culture."
Feninisting blogger Cara thought she'd lift sagged spirits by posting pro-abort Sonya "The Drama" Boom Renee's dramatic poetry recitation, "What women deserve," from the 2006 International World Poetry Slam Finals.
Cara said she "was almost in tears towards the end." I don't know how someone can be so inspired by abortion that they cry about it, but there you go. Pretty pathetic.
But I gotta say Sonya was good. Too bad she wasted her talent promoting wanton illicit sex and chopped babies.
Sonya eloquently promulgated an abundance of tired pro-abort lies and cliches. Can you name some?
Warning: Sonya apparently couldn't convey her message out without an f*** this or sh** that, a sure sign of ignorance. And she apparently thought shouting them loudly made them more true.

She had her message backwards. Women deserve better than abortion. She was screaming so loudly, I think she got spit on my keyboard.
Posted by: Heather4life at August 13, 2007 4:14 PMReally, as shallow as it seems Jill, I don't understand why this is considered "poetry". It doesn't rhyme; it doesn't even have a meter...isn't this just pretentious prose disguised as poetry? I'm much more impressed with rhyming. You know, like Dr. Seuss.
Anyway, it is sad because this girl really thinks abortion is what is best for women. She doesn't see her own hypocrisy in ignoring that abortion dismembers a child. She, and a lot of pro-choicers, think that we pro-lifers "focus only on the fetus", when we could just as easily say that they focus only on the woman.
Except we aren't anti-woman. Our option doesn't rip apart the women, whereas every single precious abortion they fight for ends a human life—a life that God will avenge.
Posted by: Nathan Sheets at August 13, 2007 4:16 PMUm... I don't think she's ever heard of feminists for life...they agree with her on ALOT of issues.
Posted by: Lauren at August 13, 2007 4:18 PMNathan, some of them even call abortion an "EMPOWERING EXPERIENCE"... How so?
Posted by: Heather4life at August 13, 2007 4:20 PMNathan,
Dr. Seuss at least showed intelligence, imagination and most important, talent.
Posted by: Mary at August 13, 2007 4:20 PMMary,
He also said "A person is a person no matter how small".
Would someone remind this lady that abortion has been legal for 34 years. Why do the problems she's ranting about exist?
Maybe she should be ranting about men who walk away from their responsibilities and how abortion better enables them to do so.
Rosie, that's true. Mary, that was good LOL!
Posted by: Heather4life at August 13, 2007 4:38 PMDo we want control over their bodies, or do we just wish that they could exercise some self control?
Posted by: Heather4life at August 13, 2007 4:45 PMHeather: I think what it comes down to is that we don't want them to kill their babies. If people are going to continue to have children when they shouldn't, fine. But when the most natural consequence of sexual activity comes along (a baby) what makes them think that they should be able to kill him or her? "Choice, choice, choice" is what it all comes down to with these people.
Posted by: Nathan Sheets at August 13, 2007 4:50 PM"Why do the problems she's ranting about exist?"
Because people are stupid and that's the way others like it. Ever hear of the dumbing down of America? Very real.
Another pro-choicer who didn't bring up adoption as a choice. I'm thinking they don't give a crap about choice unless it's abortion. Excuses, excuses...
"rape culture."
I'll bet 1000.00 dollars more convicted rapists are pro-choice Democrats than pro-life Republicans. Do I have any takers?
Posted by: Joe at August 13, 2007 5:12 PMHeather,
No kidding!!! Maybe we should be able to control them if they can't control themselves. Sheesh!!
Rosie, excellent point! No mention of adoption whatsoever. Why is abortion their only solution? Try abstinence!
Posted by: Heather4life at August 13, 2007 5:17 PMShe was screaming so loudly, I think she got spit on my keyboard.
LOL Heather (and I almost never say that).

(Ahem)
My sensibilities violated
when I see young children
with young women.
On a bus of oppression
look! That ad of feux feminism:
put forth by Catholics and
anti-choicers.
I start to pant:
I think of these little children as
oppressors.
No better than the men who filled these women
with their misogynist seed.
Their selfishness is endless:
feedings, burpings, constantly crying.
I have to get off the bus!
These women were not given
the choices they needed.
Otherwise, why wouldn't they abort?
Certainly I can tell
tell by seeing the strangers
on the Bus of Oppression
that these women
would have gotten rid of their children at
first chance.
There can't be love and devotion
between them and their offspring.
I start to scream; I start to enunciate
with a purpose.
I declare to the world:
women don't deserve to have children.
Women don't deserve to have consequences of
sex.
Women deserve better.
Thank you.
Bravo!!!

"Abortion is the greatest deception that has plagued the black church since Lucifer himself."
Meet the Director
Pro-Choice? This carefully devised phrase was contrived to provoke our inward zeal for freedom and the civil right to make choices freely. I am all for freedom of choice, except when it comes at the expense of innocent lives. Women who have been deceived into wrong choices and children who were never given any choice at all are the victims of pro-choice America.
Between 1882 and 1968, 3,446 Blacks were lynched in the U.S. That number is surpassed in less than 3 days by abortion.
1,452 African-American children are killed each day by the heinous act of abortion.
3 out of 5 pregnant African-American women will abort their child.
Since 1973 there has been over 13 million Black children killed and their precious mothers victimized by the U.S. abortion industry.
In his Letter from a Birmingham Jail, Martin Luther King said, "The early church brought an end to such things as INFANTICIDE." What would Martin Luther King say to the church today?
The Rev. Jesse Jackson once said:
"That is why the Constitution called us three-fifths human and then whites further dehumanized us by calling us 'niggers'. It was part of the dehumanizing process. The first step was to distort the image of us as human beings in order to justify that which they wanted to do and not even feel like they had done anything wrong. Those advocates of taking life prior to birth do not call it killing or murder, they call it abortion. They further never talk about aborting a baby because that would imply something human. Rather they talk about aborting the fetus. Fetus sounds less than human and therefore abortion can be justified".
Jackson's massive flip-flop on the abortion issue is further proof that his political future is far more important to him than are his principles.
With 1/3 of all abortions performed on Black women, the abortion industry has received over 4,000,000,000 (yes, billion) dollars from the Black community.

You point out that the abortion industry has taken 4 billion dollars from the black community. After Sonja determines how little of that money has been donated back to the black community she should have plenty to rant and rave about.
Posted by: Mary at August 13, 2007 7:56 PMMary, I'll agree with that!
Posted by: Heather4life at August 13, 2007 8:28 PMMary, frankly I was wondering what she was ranting and raving about to begin with. After all abortion IS legal, isn't it?

than bad propagandistic poetry delivered in a shrill voice.
Posted by: SUZANNE at August 13, 2007 8:51 PMHeather4life,
Good point. So all the problems Sonja rants and raves about should be non-existent, right? In fact, Sonja should have nothing to rant and rave about.
Posted by: Mary at August 13, 2007 9:02 PMShe doesn't even believe her own rhetoric. She closes with "women deserve choice," after pointing out that we have a society that traps them into aboriton -- the "choice" she's saying they deserve.
She's saying that it's RIGHT and GOOD and JUST for weeping women to be abandoned to abortion, because that's CHOICE, which is inherently good.
Why do I find myself hating her so much?
Posted by: Christina at August 14, 2007 4:46 AMI figured out why I hate her so much -- because she's saying "Scraping her out and sending her on her discharges any obligation anybody has toward her." And she's saying it in such a way as to say that taking the "We killed your baby. Now shut up and go away" attitude makes her BETTER than people who think that women deserve better.
She thinks her indifference to the woman's real needs makes her superior.
Posted by: Christina at August 14, 2007 4:49 AMSoMG, from what I understand, Dr. Seuss was politially very left wing and solidly behind an unfettered right to abortion. His widow's been trying for ages now to get prolifers to stop quoting him.
Note: The Who's on the dust speck were all BORN Who's. The monkeys could have set up an abortion facility for Who's and been heros.
Posted by: Christina at August 14, 2007 4:56 AMfor clarification of the confused,
this is called 'Performance Poetry' and she is good at it. And no, it does not rhyme nor even sound like poetry. She sounds loud to convince ... and it may not even be logical. Her obvious passion is what makes her correct [according to her applause after the performance].
What she, women, and men NEED is hope for a life filled with peace and joy ... but she makes several errors because a person cannot take/steal a gift. It is not owed to anyone, and there is pain and much effort (with little comfort) involved.
She wants to destroy the very person who will be that gift of joy, her babe.
Posted by: John McDonell at August 14, 2007 7:13 AMJohn,
Howard Stern's degeneracy also has plenty of people applauding. I don't consider him an entertainer, only a degenerate. I don't find "comedians" who rant, swear, use vile racial slurs, and denigrate people funny. Others find them hilarious. Sonja may present "performance poetry" and have people applaud her. I just see a lot of no talent ranting and raving.
I suppose its all in the point of view.
Mary, I really think that Sonya probably is talented. She just ought to use her talent in a constructive way.......Try Broadway!
Posted by: Heather4life at August 14, 2007 7:38 AMHeather, it'd be nice if she pointed some of her outrage at the people actually responsible for knocking up women then abandoning them. She rants as if the Republican congress and the National Conference of Catholic Bishops are sneaking out at night, selling crack and knocking up underaged minority girls.
Posted by: Christina at August 14, 2007 4:55 PMGood point Christina,
She can also point at that women can take some personal responsibility for their own lives as well. They don't have to have sex, they can finish school, and advance their educations. Women have opportunities now like they have never had. They do not have to trap themselves into lives of dead end jobs and welfare dependency. It makes me ill to think of the young women I have seen throw their futures right down the toilet.
Heather4life and Christina, Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I've assumed from your posts you have had chilren out of wedlock and have struggled to better your lives. My congratulations to you both. You took responsibility for your own lives and bettered them, you didn't sit around and complain about what isn't being done for you, unlike Sonja.
Posted by: Mary at August 14, 2007 5:11 PMChristina, right you are! I just meant that she might be able to use her loud, booming voice for something other than promoting abortions.
Posted by: Heather4life at August 14, 2007 5:11 PMMary, You would be correct in assuming so in my case. I was with an abusive man. The signs were not apparent at first, of course. I discovered That I was pregnant. I considered an abortion but not seriously. My conscience kept telling me what I already knew. I knew that if I were to kill my son, that wasn't going to solve any issues of abuse. It would make me a murderer, and I refused to accept blood on my hands. I called my mom [she lives in another state] She said, "Pack up and come here." I left and told him "Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!" He still had to vacate our apartment.
Posted by: Heather4life at August 14, 2007 5:26 PM"Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!"
LOL!!! I've never heard that before!!! You sound like one tough cookie Heather!

Definitely.

Agreed, and also feel that they should be told about the dangers of carrying to term and giving birth, which are much more substantial that the risks of abortion.

Posted by: Doug at August 16, 2007 9:00 AMWomen deserve better than Sonya and her evil lies.
Posted by: Heather4life at August 16, 2007 3:48 PMHello I am Sonya Renee the author of the performance poem "What We Deserve".
It has definitely been INTERESTING reading an anti abortion perspective on my poem "What We Deserve". First and foremost I find it telling that a significant amount of the response does not deal with the specifics of the poem at all. Thusly, I offer a little background so that you might at least better understand the context of what you are watching. I am performance poet and spoken word artist. I participate in SLAM poetry, which is competitive performance poetry. My poem can not be longer than three minutes and ten seconds. Thusly, there are parts of this piece that you did not see on this video but that address other issues around the topic of abortion including adoption. However, my biggest issue with the comments posted about this piece have little to do with comments about my tone being shrill, or my poetry not rhyming (Actually this piece has heavy slant and off rhyme and it is written in free verse, just so you understand the form) as "good" is always very subjective as you pointed out Mary. Beyond not liking the craft or performance of the piece, which is fine, I take most offensive to a bevy of assumptions about who I am and what I have been through. But just so you have no misconceptions about me let me enligthen you.
I am the daughter of a teenage mother and father who were both addicted to drugs at some point in my life. My moher smoked crack until I was 24 years old. I have taken care of myself since I was sixteen. I come from a background that would imply that I would have and be nothing. 75% of my family are teenage parents, have some subtance abuse issues or severe mental health issues. I am 30 years old, I am the first person in my entire family to have a Master's degree and soon to be working on a dual PH.D and J.D( this is out of 13 aunts and uncles who never finished high school). I run a National Training Program around mobilizing "MY RACE" Heather4life to address HIV/AIDS in the Black communtiy. I have spent two decades working with kids with emotional and behavioral problems, the children who take guns to school, beat up faculty, hurt themselves and others. The kids born to parents who inflicted some of the most heinous abuses against them. These kids are now locked up and some of us still care about them. Some of us believe in their redempton. And I am also (whether you like my stuff or not) A National and International Poetry Slam Champion. I say all of that not to pat myself on the back but to ensure you that I do not speak on issues that 1. I know nothing about and 2. that I have done nothing about.
Make NO MISTAKES I am the exception to the rule. Most kids from my background DO NOT make it out. So let's not be flippant about what it means to " have struggled to better your lives" Mary, because that is what I have done. That struggle allowed me to go back after finishing college and get my mother off of crack cocaine. So PLEASE don't ASSUME that I have spent years throwing a pity party for myself. That would be highly dissrespectful and Grossly inaccurate. However, what I have learned from life is that there are circumstances and situations that take generations to conquer and you can not pass on what you don't have. The pregnancy i had at 19 years old to a boy who knew nothing and had even less, was not about "lack of self control" Heather, it was about wanting to make soemone stay and love me. It was about a manifestation of years of hurt from parents who could not teach me what they didn't know. So let's not over simplify how people end up in the situations that they end up in. If I would not have terminated that pregnancy, i would have likely repeated the cycle my family had repeated for generations. I did not have the skills to raise a whole, healthy child and i likely would have been birthing that child into a life of poverty. It took me years to learn to love myself and not live as a victim of my history, those are years I would have spent raising a child to take on all of my deficiencies. As far as adoption, (which i think is a beautiful thing and rather than birthing, I am planning to adopt two older children in the next few years), until americans stop flying to Europe and Russia and Asia to adopt babies while american children, specifically african american children languish in foster care systems until adulthood; It is an arguement that seems like lip service. Until every pro-lifer adopts a child currently in the foster care system I have little to no respect for their arguement. The reality is No, everyone should not parent. There are children on this planet who came from horrific existences and many of them are the same ones you will be advocating to execute on death row in the "justice" system. However, most salient to me is the fact that until the social and political circumstances that cause women to not want to parent are addressed, we have NO RIGHT TO BE TALKING ABOUT THE MORALITY OF ABORTION! POVERTY IS IMMORAL, RASCISM IS IMMORAL, SEXISM, CLASSISM AND DISCRIMINATION ON ANY BASIS IS IMMORAL. Until we address those issues, until we make abortion seem totally unnecessary to those who have them, to me this debate is moot. And no Nathan, children should not be consequences. They should be wanted and cared for by capable loving parents.
Christina, I do not hate you. I have never met you. I know nothing about your life or experiences. It would be amazingly unjust for me to hate you. Do I disagree with your stance, Yes. Does that lead to hate? NO. Far more frightening than a woman aborting a pregnancy, is the fact that because someone a living, breathing, walking, talking person on this planet does not believe what you believe, you hate them. Where have I seen that idealogy before, World War II Geremany, Auschwitz, Rwanda, Darfur, Kosovo, Iraq. I believe it always ends in war and devastation. Is that what we should birth children and teach them?
Heather, God bless you for getting out of that abusive relationship with your child. My cousin was not as lucky, he shot her in the head and then killed himself. I am glad you had a mother to go to. All of us do not.
To Nathan and anyone else who commented, Trust me I have poems that address those who run out on the women they impregnate, I have poems for young women on how not to become pregnant, how to respect and honor yourself and I have poems about my own personal growth. And yes sometimes they are loud and ranty, sometimes they are quite and introspective. I am not a one trick pony. But most of all I am open to dialogue and discussion. I am willing to hear your point of view and I will never denigrate your humanity just because our opinions differ. I believe that is what is right.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a lengthy and informative post.
We would simply disagree that abortion is a solution to societal woes. You are a fine example. No one should be prejudged and aborted for one's parentage or living situation.
And we would disagree that teaching comprehensive sex ed and contraceptives are the solution to unwanted pregnancies. I appreciate your honesty about your own abortion. The answer for you was not that, the answer for you was teaching self-respect so you didn't have sex to get love, which happens so often. In that regard, women are so, so exploited.
Thanks again for writing. I said in my original post you had obvious talent. I do wish you'd research black genocide before promoting it.
