I have actually said every one of these except, "No texting at the table." That nuisance came after my kids were grown... lol....

Posted by: heather at September 28, 2007 7:15 PMHaha. How do people find stuff like this?
Okay. I am bumping up this conversation I was having with Jacqueline a few days ago. Sorry I couldn't finish it--unfortunately, I can't spend all my time in front of the computer.
People who disagree with BC disagree with it because they think it's a perversion of God's intent for sex. So you have no problem with us thinking it's a perversion- it's just my saying it that bothers you? And while we're at it, how is taking pleasure from sex while denying its unitive and procreative purpose not a perversion?
Jacqueline, listen: NOT EVERYONE SHARES YOUR IDEAS OF GOD!!! And for heaven's sake, you, as a humble human being on earth, have no way of knowing for absolutely sure what it is that God wants! You can theorize, you can cite the Bible, but you can't know unless you ask the big man Himself.
Think it, say it, whatever. Just don't expect other people to live by your standards and don't act all self-righteous when we don't.
To say sex is a perversion at all promotes the idea that it is a dirty thing or something to be ashamed of. Sex is nothing to be ashamed of at all! You know, Freud said (and this is one thing I agree with him on) people are starved for a simple and frank discussion about sex--one where no one giggles or acts like it's this horrid and sinful thing.
Since when did I advocate denying sex? If you are so anti-child that you would rather deny sex than have a baby, that is your issue. Married couples should have all the sex they want- just the holy (and unperverted) sex, not the sliced up, selfish, chemical and latex-laden sex.
Sex is a holy gift, perfect as it is. I don't see why so many people poison it to suit their selfish wants.
Umm... I am not anti-child and it's very presumptuous of you to assume so. I want children--lots of children in fact, if I end up with the right guy. But I'll also want to have sex sometimes without getting pregnant. I also want a life and a career--one that won't be interrupted every couple of months with maternity leave.
Clearly, we will never see eye to eye on this. I do wish you had the ability to try and see through opposing perspectives, but you are clearly too high above me morally or something.
Your moral standards and mine, Jacqueline, are very different. I can deal with that. Can you? More importantly, can you deal with it without looking down on my way of doing things?
Posted by: Leah at September 28, 2007 10:32 PMCan I respectfully ask those who are in the habit of "bringing up conversations" in Jill's posts to trade e-mails and continue their conversations that way? It is very confusing to those of us who regularly read Jill's blog to filter through everything—I can't imagine how it must be for visitors!
Posted by: Nathan Sheets at September 29, 2007 8:59 PMWouldn't NFP also be a perversion of Gods will then? Some extremist branches of Christianity believe all sex is wrong and no one should have it.
Posted by: Jess at September 30, 2007 10:38 AMJess: Seems like it would be. It is, after all, a form of BC.
Posted by: Leah at September 30, 2007 7:48 PMNFP also includes breast-feeding, which , if done right makes it so that you don't get your cycles back until you start weening your child anyway, there is just so much that goes into NFP.
Posted by: rosie at September 30, 2007 8:26 PMRosie, I don't understand your point. No matter what method of BC you use, you can still breast feed.
Posted by: Leah at September 30, 2007 10:35 PMis breastfeeding a perversion of God's will?
Posted by: rosie at October 1, 2007 10:15 AMNo... I don't imagine it would be, but I can't speak for God. That is still sort of OT.
Posted by: Leah at October 1, 2007 1:59 PMwho is that woman in that awesome youtube piece above? righteous! lemme know, lemme know, lemme know!
Posted by: leslie at October 2, 2007 6:53 PMThis post really puzzles me..

The person wants lots of children but doesn't want her life to be interrupted by maternity leave. Well, how does she plan on getting the lots of children,...at the local supermarket???
Posted by: sandra at October 3, 2007 11:53 PMIn order to ask the "Big Guy," you have to get to Him. In order to get to Him, you have to believe his Word, the Bible. Read what the Bible says about perversions and you will know what they are. It is all so simple!
