Presidential race developments
According to news sources, Rudy Giuliani and John Edwards are both planning to drop out of the presidential race today.
According to my ongoing poll, you expected this of Giuliani but thought Gravel on the Democrat side would quit before Edwards.
Color me surprised by the turn of two events following yesterday's Florida primary.
For social conservatives, our worst case scenario has evaporated, and much easier than I expected. Giuliani, the only overt social liberal, is gone. Big relief. Had he carried the nomination and then the election, the social conservative base of the Republican Party would have likewise evaporated or our status greatly diminished....
But our second-worst case scenario has come to the forefront: John McCain. I thought his candidacy was dead this summer and he kept things going for his ego.
McCain is a traitor to social conservatives and to the GOP. There is a reason moderates/independents like him. There is a reason Giuliani is anticipated to endorse him and Giuliani's followers are to flock to McCain.
It appears social conservatives will now split their vote between Romney, Huckabee, and Paul, increasing McCain's chances of winning the nomination all the more.
Am worried today, but this nomination process has been full of surprises, so I'm also hopeful.

Did you mean to cross out McCain or Edwards?
Posted by: Carla at January 30, 2008 9:48 AMYeah, I was wondering about that too...
Posted by: Bobby Bambino at January 30, 2008 9:57 AMOh, snap! Yes! Score for Obama!
Edwards followers are going to go for Obama now.
Also, how stoked will I be if he goes in as Obama's VP? So totally stoked.
Posted by: Erin at January 30, 2008 9:58 AMI meant to cross out mcCain, as if he's no good either. Maybe I'm the only one who knows what I mean, which happens a lot... :)
Posted by: Jill Stanek at January 30, 2008 9:59 AMGot it. :)
Posted by: Carla at January 30, 2008 10:05 AMJill:
You dont actually like Ron Paul do you?
Posted by: midnite678 at January 30, 2008 10:14 AMNo, I gotcha. McCain is no good.
Posted by: Bobby Bambino at January 30, 2008 10:14 AMMidnite, no.
Posted by: Jill Stanek at January 30, 2008 10:36 AMEdwards for Attorney General and then to Supreme Court!!!!
Jill:
Thank God. If you did I was going to leave the site and never return, that man is the antichrist. Seriously. If he some how gets into office, we (the whole country) is screwed beyond belief...
Posted by: midnite678 at January 30, 2008 11:17 AMI'll have you know, Jill, I did NOT vote for the McCainine yesterday.
Posted by: carder at January 30, 2008 1:22 PMJill, McCan will be infinitely better than Clinton or Obama -- on abortion and on judges. Both are crucial to the future. If Obama or Clinton are elected we have 35 more years of legalized abortion -- guaranteed.
Posted by: Steven Ertelt at January 30, 2008 2:54 PMSteven, I'll guarantee another 35 years of legal abortion in the US no matter who wins the 08 race.

I must respectfully disagree with you regarding John McCain.
I know John McCain. He appointed my son the the aIR fORCE AND nAVAL aCADAMIES. His daughter and my son attend the same Christian school.
Here's why I disagree with you and whY your view hurts the movement as a whole:
100 percent pro-life Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma is backing McCain.
McCain has a 100 percent pro-life voting record and has called for Roe v. Wade to be overturned
His only negative from a pro-life standpoint is his past support for federal funding for embryonic stem cell research. This is a direct result of his friendship with former Congressman Mo Udall, who died of Parkinson’s disease. Udall’s wife asked McCain to vote for this because it might have helped her husband. This is a non-issue in the future because McCain acknowledges that adult stem cells hold more promise for future research.
Liberals don’t vote 100 percent pro-life, support the surge and victory in Iraq, and opposed pork barrel spending by Congress.
If McCain becomes the nominee I urge every pro-lifer to get behind him. The alternative is a disaster and a non-vote is a vote for abortion.
What about Romney. He is so pretty. He changes his mind as often as he sleeps in wife #18's room. (A lot, she is the youngest of the wives)
Posted by: PeachPit at January 30, 2008 3:19 PMJill, I really don't think McCain is as bad as you make him out to be. I don't like him, nor do I like a lot of what he's done (in particular McCain-Feingold), but he is a thousand times better than Hillary or Obama.
I'm voting for Romney in the primary, but if McCain ends up with the nomination, I will have no problem voting for him. McCain is against Roe v. Wade. McCain is in favor of originalist judges. McCain is against surrendering to terrorists. There are just so, so many ways in which John McCain is clearly superior to any of the Democrats. In the case that he does get the nomination, we shouldn't stay home on election day just because he's not great on a handful of issues or because we personally dislike him. I'd much rather have a president I can't stand who is going to nominate originalist judges than a president I find amiable who is going to put more pro-abortion activists on the courts.

Posted by: HisMan at January 30, 2008 4:08 PMI will definitely consider that, HisMan. But the ESCR thing is a very big concern of mine, too. Do you really think the adult stem cells have made it a moot point for him and that he wouldn't push for federal funding for it?

Iraqis who have died “as a result of the conflict in their country since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, according to research conducted by one of Britain’s leading polling groups.” The survey also found that “20 percent of people had had at least one death in their household as a result of the conflict, rather than natural causes.”
Bush + McCain = DEATH
Posted by: PeachPit at January 30, 2008 4:42 PMJohn, HisMan: To be clear, if McCain wins the nomination, I'll vote for him. I couldn't say that about Giuliani.
It is reassuring that McCain has good people like Coburn and Brownback giving him advice.
Posted by: Jill Stanek at January 30, 2008 5:09 PMMr. Bambino:
In today's real world, with the power of the media, and their love for Hillabeans, who in the world do you think could defeat her?
Do you think it odd that John McCain is loved by the media but yet can say things like, "I support the war" and, "I am pro-life".
Hillary won't be able to question his absolute service to this country. And deep down inside, in light of the terrorist threat, do you really think the majority of voters will trust the likes of Hillabeans to be in control of the military? She despises the military and all that it stands for and her own record will rip her apart when push comes to shove in the Presidential debates as well as the mountainous evidence of scandal that will resurface. She knows this and the Democratic delagates know this. Right now, the waters are being tested. My bet is that the GOP absolutely wants Hillary to win the nomination.
John McCain is a very wise man. He understands the enemy. Anyone that survived a Viet Cong POW camp has to know more than the average guy.
Let's allow ourselves the priviledge of reading between the lines.
Does not the Bible say to be as gentle as a dove and as wise as a serpent?
If McCain gets the nod, I am 100% getting involved with his campaign here in AZ.
All along I have stated that McCain will win the nomination and most likely choose Huckabee as his VP and the duo will be undefeatable. Because of his age McCain won't run for a second term but will have placed Huckabee in a very strong position to become the 2012 nominee for President. This will guarantee the repeal of Roe v. Wade within 8 years.
Liberals know this and are absolutely terrified.

How many lives have been saved and possibly that of yours and your family because of George Bush?
I guess you'll just have to bask in the luxury of your own ignorance of the answer.
Posted by: HisMan at January 30, 2008 5:46 PMYou are right HisMan, if Saddam was around he would of killed more than 4,000 americans by now right? Bush and McCain don't get why folks don't like us and it sounds like you don't either. It is such a joke to watch W. kill innocent people and then be such a staunch pro lifer.
Posted by: PeachPit at January 31, 2008 9:23 AMMike Huckabee is the only pro-life candidate .
Both McCain And Romney support Embreonic Stem Cell Research. Ron Pual is a baby-killer like the rest of them. He voted 3 seperate times against the unborn victems of violence act. Ron Paul also voted to Legalize Marijuana and SAid in an interview that he would lagalize prostitution. He Says to let the states decide. He is just like douglas in the lincoln Douglas Debates. VOTE PRO-LIFE, VOTE HUCKABEE!!

Huckabee for President!!
I think Huckabee has a 100% chance of winning because the lord is behind him.
