New Stanek WND column, "4 months, 3 weeks, and 2 theaters"

While the pro-life themed movie Juno soared past the $100 million earnings milestone last weekend, its critically acclaimed anti-life counterpart, 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, opened in just two theaters nationwide.

4 Months is not a "gripping portrayal of life" as review website Rotten Tomatoes described it. It is the blatant promotion of death, in this case a late-term baby in 1987 Romania, when front alley abortions there were illegal.

Four months, three weeks and two days refers to the length of time a promiscuous college student waited after conceiving before deciding to abort, in other words, the gestational age of her baby when killed.

Baby had no lines but merits commendation for giving a dead-on performance on that bathroom floor.

Mainstream media critics all loved 4 Months - giving it 70 positive reviews to three negative - and have been promoting its American opening hard, also pushing for an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.

Both efforts failed. Reviews indicated critics braced for the former, since American moviegoers so lack appreciation for great movies.

But they were completely unprepared for the Academy snub....

I'd want to see that movie.

"Lake of Fire" is released to home video March 11th.

Plus I don't think Sarafina was so popular even though it showed the horrors of apartheid. Just because a movie sends a message doesn't mean people will care. Like in "Hotel Rwanda", people will see these things on the news and say how terrible it is, then go right back to eating their dinners.

It sounds like a horribly depressing movie...

I know but the world was and to a good extent still is blind to the horrors of apartheid.

Posted by: Jess at February 6, 2008 1:35 PM

Do you think we will see a new version of apartheid over the next 30-40 years as the native european population declines dramatically and racially diverse immigrants become the majority in Europe?

Posted by: Anonymous at February 6, 2008 2:21 PM

I don't think immigrants will become the majority in Europe. Well if they do there might be small hate groups targeting them but I don't think we will end up like South Africa. Or maybe there will be restrictions on immigration? I think we need to wonder why so many people fell the need to leave their homeland : (

Lots of independent or foreign movies get virtually no recognition in American theaters despite critical acclaim. A few break through every so often and become huge (Juno, Pan's Labyrinth, etc). I don't think this movie's lack of success in US theaters is about abortion or any sort of pro-live movement in American cinema; I think it's just how the movie industry is.

I think this planet will be a better place when we're all golden-brown and hazel-eyed. America is well on it's way there.

FF,
Lol, there was an episode of The Golden Girls where Rose tells the girls that everyone in St. Olaf could trace their heritage back to the same brother and sister. My boss has a biracial stepson who basically looks black but has the lightest blue eyes. He's gorgeous.

I have a fried that is half black, one quarter French and one quarter Cherokee. She has the most incredible green eyes that I've ever seen.

I love having green eyes (well hazel, usually green). I hope my kids have green eyes or my "elf ear" that my Dad and I have. I always thought it was cool.

LOL! Good luck to you on that! My son has eyes the shade of his father and my daughter, eyes the shade of mine. I'm very happy that neither of them got my very beautiful ex mother in law's Dumbo ears.

Sally, being fried will often make one black.

One of my kids inherited my red hair and green eyes but the other one has darkbrown and hazel... Luckily red hair runs in the family and in every generation there is one or two red heads.

Red Heads Forever!

I don't really think Juno is pro-life. I think its just a fictional movie. End of story. But I will see 4 weeks.

Jess,

I think we need to wonder why so many people fell the need to leave their homeland : (

Isn't that what we did in Iraq? And aren't you one of the people saying we shouldn't have?

It amazes me when people complain about Darfur, Rwanda, etc., and then complain when we step in to do something...

Have some cake.
Eat it too.

Posted by: mk at February 7, 2008 7:48 AM

I never said we shouldn't be in Iraq. And we definitely should have done SOMETHING in Rwanda and Darfur and Uganda. I mean, European colonization started most of the problems anyway, (cough apartheid).

I don't think immigrants will become the majority in Europe.

Posted by: Jess at February 6, 2008 2:33 PM

There are no population analysts at the UN or anywhere else on the planet who agree.

With a birth rate of 1.4 kids per woman how would native Europeans stay in the majority?

Considering the backgrounds of likely immigrants to Europe, do you think the European nations will remain US allies? Do you think European commitment to democracy in general will remain seeing as how in general democracy is a more uh, recent phenomenon in Europe?

Posted by: Anonymous at February 7, 2008 7:41 PM

I have always been a fan of brown eyes myself. Europe is certainly changing demographically. The UN predicts a precipitous drop in the native population within the next 10-20 years. That means to maintain thier economy, they must import workers. Since the percentage will be so high, the face of Europe will go from 25% immigrant to 75% immigrant by the end of the century. Not since European migration into North America has the world seen such a radical shift in population. I'm sure all will agree that Europeans influenced Native Americans more than Native Americans influenced Europeans.

When Europeans are the shrinking group and immigrants are the gaining group, will Europe influence immigrants or will immigrants influence Europe?

As immigrants move to Europe, they bring their culture with them. While the immigrants may be beautiful, not all of their customs are.

As a result of immigration and refugee movements, female genital mutilation is now being practiced by ethnic minority populations in other parts of the world, such as USA, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. FORWARD estimates that as many as 6,500 girls are at risk of FGM within the UK every year.

My country is too stubborn to be run over by immigrants. We already have politicians who are putting up barriers for immigrants. Like if you are just going to come into the country to pop out kids and feed off of the governments child support money then you won't be allowed into the country. But if you're here to work and be productive you are. They keep watch on any new immigrants already.
