VA to continue funding Planned Parenthood

This update is overdue, but I want to close the loop on this topic for those who hadn't heard.

On March 3 I reported the VA Senate narrowly voted to cut off state funding to Planned Parenthood. I warned at the time this would not likely survive pro-abort Gov. Timothy Kaine's line-item veto.

close.jpgWell, it didn't get that far. Since the amendment was not in the House approved budget, it was up for debate in the secret General Assembly conference that wrangled out differences between the 2 chambers' approved budgets.

The Richmond-Times Dispatch reported March 15 that PP funding ($200k) was restored in the final budget.

On the bright side, our side at least tried. Good for them. Their effort can be added to the nationwide pressure mounting against PP. Maybe next year.

Who's holding their breath, waiting for the "downfall" of Planned Parenthood?

"PP is the devil" is quite a bit of what I heard clear back in 1996, so maybe coming up for air would be a good idea.

Good to hear some governments still care for women's health.

Posted by: Edyt at March 27, 2008 1:15 PM

I'll say it again - antichoicers are more than happy to deny 97 women affordable health care if they can make it more difficult for 3 women to obtain abortions. I live in a major metropolitan area and PP clinics are all over the place but there is only one that performs abortions and they dont perform them every day. Most of these clinics help with contraceptives and std testing and treatment and cancer screening. They may make referrals to the other clinic but its obvious MOST of their health care is NOT providing abortions and is helping to PREVENT abortion by making contraceptives available.

”I think it's going to actually help our movement right now. I think it's going to help unite everybody and bring people back to the fold, get people reinvigorated. I feel like the past eight years, everybody thought, since we have a pro-life president, we don't have to do that much. He's looking out for us; don't worry about it. I think it's going to get people back into the fold, being vigilant, watching what's happening in Washington".
