Threepeat: LA Times/Chicago Tribune again help Obama make the close

This is off topic, but I'm blogging on it because I was there.

The Los Angeles Times' refusal to cough up a damaging video of Barack Obama kabbitzing with PLO friend Rashid Khalidi should come as no surprise.

The LAT/Chicago Tribune sisterhood has been aiding and abetting Obama for years.

ryans.jpgJack Ryan

In 2004 Republican Jack Ryan ran against Barack Obama for US Senate.

Ryan was divorced from actress Jeri Ryan of Star Trek: Voyager and Boston Public fame. Their divorce records were sealed, as requested by both. They shared a young autistic son who they were trying to protect.

Obama's chief strategist, David Axelrod, interned for the Chicago Tribune in college and then worked there in "a high-profile job as the lead political reporter," according to the New York Times, from 1977-84....

US Senate candidate's graphic abortion ad airing now aired yesterday

UDPATE, 10/31, 11a: No surprise, YouTube pulled the Koppie ad, even though it aired on network television. It is available here now for viewing and embedding.

About the airing the Koppie campaign reported:

It aired about 6:29pm, set off and apart from the other billion political ads with, "The following commercial may not be suitable for children."... Chad needs to recover a few hundred more to get him out of the hole for this ad, but he's already eyeing a Monday ad on the Today Show ($1000). Ellen is only $510. If there's more $, he'll buy more ads.

Mass manipulation

An October 27 comment (#25) on the pro-Hillary blog HillBuzz has been making the blogospheric rounds. I understand Rush even read it yesterday.

The scenarios presented seem plausible, creepy, even scary. About the disclosure that people are paid to demoralize on blogs, Stanek moderators can attest I've suspected this here for some time, which is why we've been banning more lately.

The following is quite a read. The dynamics of this presidential campaign can't be explained as pure politics. There's something seriously crazy about it. This information would help account for some of its surrealness....

Planned Parenthood exec crashes press conference

Yesterday afternoon the Alliance Defense Fund and CO citizen Mark Hotaling held a press conference at the State Capitol to announce an $18 million lawsuit against Gov. Bill Ritter, Planned Parenthood, Boulder Valley Women's Health Center, and the CO Dept. of Health and Environment for illegal taxpayer funding of abortion.

shell game.jpgThe lawsuit came within days after plaintiffs learned the state had given $9 million to the 2 aforementioned abortion groups presumably for breast cancer screening, despite the fact the CO Constitution states no public funds can be used "directly or indirectly" for abortion.

According to the press release, as recently as 2001 PP and BVWHC were stripped of over $1 million in taxpayer funding "after an independent audit found and PP recently admitted that it's impossible to separate their abortion activities from their taxpayer subsidies."

But a surprise guest crashed the conference. When Leslie Durgan, Senior VP of PP of the Rocky Mountains and former mayor of Boulder, walked in, journalists recognized her and asked for comment. The cheeky child killer proceeded to take over the podium when the ADF attorney had finished his presentation. Her talking points fit nicely into the Rocky Mountain News article about the event.

The state contends the funds allocated were federal, so it's not violating the Constitution. Durgan disputed the amount listed in the contracts altogether.

Flaws found in liberal Catholic abortion study

UPDATE, 10/31, 8:20a:Dr. New's longer analysis of the CACG study is available here.
_______________

During this election cycle a study on abortion released by Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good has received plenty of attention from Democrats and Barack Obama supporters.

cacg.jpgThe spin is that state pro-life laws only have a small impact on abortion rates, and increasing welfare expenditures is the superior way to reduce abortion.

But in today's National Review Online, Professor Michael New of the University of AL and the Witherspoon Institute identified - surprise - errors in the study's methodology.

New conducted a proper analysis of the exact same data used by CACG and found pro-life laws - specifically public funding restrictions and informed consent laws - are effective at lowering abortion rates.

New also found the amount of money spent on welfare appears to have only a marginal impact on the incidence of abortion.

Breaking news: Audio of Obama's speech against Born Alive found

Thumbnail image for breaking.jpgIn 2001, then IL state Sen. Barack Obama, for the 2nd year in a row, was the sole person opposing Born Alive Infant bills on the state senate floor.

Audio of senate floor debates is destroyed when transcripts are written. Until now, only the Chicago Tribune was known to have audio of this debate but had only released a very small clip.

But we now have it. A reader requesting anonymity sent it to me. Thanks to moderator Chris for making a YouTube video, accentuating Obama's talking points and irrationality...

In the audio, Obama argues against calling for a 2nd physician if the 1st physician - the abortionist - has decided the baby s/he has just aborted alive is non-viable....

"Catholic voters no longer beholden to bishops and abortion"

That's the title of a post by Ruth Hunt today on RH Reality Check.

I read that and wondered who are they beholden to then? It appears the Obama campaign has accelerated the thought among some Catholics that abortion is but one issue of many and can be trumped.

faithful citizenship.jpgBefore I get to that column, I want to excerpt from another posted by Deal Hudson yesterday, blaming the bishops themselves for the problem:

I never thought it likely that Catholic voters could be persuaded to support a candidate with both the most extreme record on abortion and who favors gay marriage. Yet, barring a miracle, that paradox is only a week away.
If Obama wins on November 4 with the help of Catholic voters, the biggest factor in his favor will be the bishops' own document and Web site, "Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship" [adopted in November 2007]....

Ginsburg: Roe decision "bit off more than it could chew"

Former ACLU attorney and current US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg spoke at Princeton over a week ago, on October 21, and I'm not surprised pro-abort bloggers have steered clear of discussing it. Read The Daily Princetonian's account to know why:

When asked about the discrepancy between her support of a woman's right to choose and her disapproval of Roe v. Wade, which opened the door to legalized abortion in 1973, Ginsburg said that she was surprised by "how far the court had gone [in this decision]."

ginsburg at princeton.jpg

"It would have been easy for the Supreme Court to say that the extreme cases are unconstitutional" without broadening the decision to the 50 states.

Ginsburg said that the abruptness of the decision, which declared many state statutes unconstitutional, created a "perfect rallying point" for people who disagreed with the notion that abortion should be a woman's choice. She added that the decision may have also stifled dialogue with state legislatures....

Supremes awaiting Dem prez to overturn Roe?

Pro-aborts are bantering a new theory: that the U.S. Supreme Court is awaiting the election of a Democrat president to "throw a wrench into the plans of a new administration" by overturning Roe v. Wade.

kennedy photo.jpgThat theory relies on another theory that Justice Anthony Kennedy has converted from being "tepidly pro-choice" to pro-life over the course of time. Roe was decided in 1973. Kennedy came onto the Supreme Court in 1988 and was initially considered an anti-Roe vote. Then came 1992, as CNN reported in 2004:

As lawyers and court watchers have long suspected, the Supreme Court was ready to effectively overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling legalizing abortion in 1992, but Justice Anthony M. Kennedy got cold feet, and the vote went the other way....

Proposition K

In 2006 the Council of Europe reported worldwide sex trafficking had reached "'epidemic proportions' over the past decade," according to the Associated Press.

sfg.jpgA significant reason for the surge is the shortage of girls created by sex selection abortions, particularly in Asia, but now infiltrating the Asian cultures in the U.S. according to the Boston Globe.

It is widely acknowledged that legalized prostitution exacerbates the problem. Explains the 2005 report,"The demand for victims of sex trafficking":

Analyzing trafficking and prostitution as parts of an interlocking system reveals how the components are linked, and studying the dynamics of supply and demand for victims reveals what keeps the system working. The trafficking process begins with the demand for women to be used in prostitution.

Former Ms. mag editor and Dem: "Sarah's a brainiac"

By Elaine Lafferty in The Daily Beast, a great read from an authentic feminist on her experience with the VP wannabe, October 27:

palin lafferty.jpg

It's difficult not to froth when one reads, as I did again and again this week, doubts about Sarah Palin's "intelligence," coming especially from women such as PBS's Bonnie Erbe, who, as near as I recall, has not herself heretofore been burdened with the Susan Sontag of Journalism moniker.

As Fred Barnes - God help me, I'm agreeing with Fred Barnes - suggests in the Weekly Standard, these high toned and authoritative dismissals come from people who have never met or spoken with Sarah Palin. Those who know her, love her or hate her, offer no such criticism. They know what I know, and I learned it from spending just a little time traveling on the cramped campaign plane this week: Sarah Palin is very smart.

22 Weeks screenings

UPDATE, 10/28, 7:40a: WorldNetDaily.com has more info on 22 Weeks, including the fact a screening before Congress is planned January 22, 2009, the 36th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision.
_______________

I began writing about the death of Baby Rowan soon after it happened in 2005, having received a call from his distraught mother, who had an instant change of heart when seeing her baby.

He was aborted in an Orlando, FL, abortion clinic toilet and survived for several minutes. The Born Alive Infants Protection Act should have protected him but didn't. State and federal prosecutors failed him. Clinic workers went so far as to turn away EMTs at the mill door who the mother had called to help her baby.

Now a short movie has been made of that tragedy, 22 Weeks. Here's the trailer...

I've previewed 22 Weeks. It is excellently directed and acted and is a devastating story to watch, particularly when knowing it really happened.

    Weekend question

This question was posed on Planned Parenthood's Teenwire website:

    teenwire pp.jpg

PP's research arm, The Alan Guttmacher Institute, published a study in November 2006 estimating, "Among women having abortions in the United States, about one-half have already had a prior abortion."

If one's first abortion is the fault of inadequate sex education or nonavailability of contraception, whose fault is a repeat abortion, after one has presumably been armed with sex ed instruction and contraceptive(s) of choice at the abortion mill after the first go-around?

(BTW, Teenwire's response to the question is a whole other weekend question.)

    "How much time?" None

Here's a disturbing and blatantly false ad by HowMuchTime.org ("a group that NPR says 'shares leadership and an address with NARAL Pro-Choice New York'", according to Wendy Long at NRO), supposedly depicting shaken and crying post-abortive women getting their mug shots taken after being arrested in the wake of a McCain-Palin win and the overturn of Roe v. Wade....

The ad is supposedly set to run in 6 supposed "swing states": CO, MO, OH, OR, PA, and WI, as well as SD because of its abortion ban initiative. The press release doesn't indicate a dollar amount being spent, usually meaning "not much." The biggest splash usually hoped for in that case is free media upon an ad's announcement.

Wendy Long rebuts the ad here.

Also read AUL's Clarke Forsythe's article, "Why the states did Not prosecute women for abortion before Roe v. Wade."

I don't have anything to add except this is typical lying and fear-mongering from abortion proponents, and why should anyone be surprised?

The problem, as usual, is that MSM should be anticipated to pick up this sound bite with no questions asked, and it will eventually make its way accepted into the American conversation on abortion. Our side must aggressively meet this head on with facts.

    Anti-Obama pro-lifers: "jihadists"

I get disparaging emails from time to time and dismiss them.

The following, though, made me angry not so much because the author calls pro-lifers zealots and jihadists. I've heard worse.

What got me was Peter's repulsive assertion that Jesus may have sent Barack Obama "to help you."

This is a ludicrous pitch gaining traction among guilt-ridden Christian/pro-life Obama supporters that his radical pro-abortion positions and plans juxtaposed with his liberal plans to lower the abortion rate by expanding the welfare state and comprehensive sex ed will result in a net lowered abortion rate. (And again, why do abortion proponents care one way or the other whether the rate of abortion is lowered? What's wrong with abortion? Where is the MSM asking this simple question?)

Neither of the latter address the root cause of abortion: promiscuity. They encourage it.

    From Peter, with typos corrected:

    How sweet.

jihad.jpgA lovely little website of like-minded holier than thou, pious, self rightous, zealots. All patting each other on the back. A real mutual admiration fest. No opposing viewpoints. Just you and Jesus.

Coincidentally, that's how fanatical jihadists operate. They have the same M.O.D. Like minded people who answer directly to what their God is telling them. Congratulations.

That'd be funny if when you got the pearly gates, Jesus asked why you so fervently opposed Obama when He specifically sent him to help you. I'm not saying that God did send Obama, I'm saying, "what if he did" and you misunderstood Jesus's direction?

Nevermind. You're right. You're always right.

New Stanek WND column, "How the Born Alive debate has changed the abortion debate"

    WND%20logo.gif

During The O'Reilly Factor on Sept. 29, host Bill O'Reilly said, "Apparently, you violate a woman's privacy if you set any restrictions on aborting a fetus at all or even try to protect a baby after its birth. If you do that, extremists will claim you are violating a woman's privacy rights."

O'Reilly would not have included "or even try to protect a baby after its birth" a few months ago, because it wasn't commonly known until then that abortion extremists like Barack Obama consider it a "burden" to the mother's "original decision," as he
put it, to give abortion survivors lifesaving medical help.

But the debate over Obama's opposition as state senator to the IL Born Alive Infants Protection Act has provided an unforeseen teaching opportunity to the American public, much as the debate over partial-birth abortion did a decade ago....

    Sarah Palin's special bond

Ever since I held a baby with Down syndrome until he died, I've had a special place in my heart for these special people. So this MSNBC newscast of Sarah Palin's special fans choked me up...

The LA Times blog considers this broadcast evidence news coverage of Palin is fair and balanced, so we're apparently paranoid whiners for complaining otherwise.

Stanek and Jessen on Dobson's radio show today

That broadcast will air today. Click here to find stations and air times in your area.

The show is in part a discussion of our testimonies and in part a discussion of Barack Obama's radical support of the abortion to the point he opposed giving legal personhood status to abortion survivors.

Obama: counting on the willing suspension of belief

When John McCain brought up Barack Obama's opposition to the IL Born Alive Infants Protection Act during last night's presidential debate, Obama indignantly responded:

If it sounds incredible that I would vote to withhold lifesaving treatment from an infant, that's because it's not true.

obama smiling big.jpgSavvy strategy, and not the first time his side has used something close to this line. When National Right to Life first outted Obama in August as having voted against the identical version of Born Alive in IL that passed overwhelmingly on the federal level, Obama's incensed campaign at first denied it all, saying in a written statement:

The suggestion that Obama - the proud father of 2 little girls - and others who opposed these bills supported infanticide is deeply offensive and insulting.

Is the too-crazy-to-be-true strategy of denial working? Maybe. Bearing in mind the following comes from an Obama aide via Byron York in National Review Online today, still...

McCain's right answer on Supreme Court picks

CBS News' Bob Schieffer asked this during last night's presidential debate:

    schieffer.jpg

Sen. McCain, you believe Roe v. Wade should be overturned. Sen. Obama, you believe it shouldn't. Could either of you ever nominate someone to the Supreme Court who disagrees with you on this issue?

McCain began with the Republicans' wimpy, worn response. Democrats have no problem saying one's position on Roe v. Wade is a deal maker or breaker; why don't we?...

Obama lied about turning aside as abortion survivors died

The 3rd and final presidential debate finally saw the abortion issue broached... barely, but enough to force Barack Obama out of his fox hole to attempt to explain away his opposition as IL state senator to the Born Alive Infants Protection Act.

McCain was weak on the draw, but at least he provided an opening:

Sen. Obama, as a member of the IL State Senate, voted in the Judiciary Committee against a law that would provide immediate medical attention to a child born of a failed abortion. He voted against that.

And then, on the floor of the State Senate, as he did 130 times as a state senator, he voted present.

    debate 5.jpg

Then there was another bill before the Senate Judiciary Committee in the state of IL not that long ago, where he voted against a ban on partial-birth abortion, one of the late-term abortion, a really - one of the bad procedures, a terrible. And then, on the floor of the IL State Senate, he voted present....

"Obama's abortion extremism" by Robert George

must read.jpgMany people have sent me a link to this excellent commentary by Princeton's Robert George yesterday.

    A must read.

What abortion question would you ask?

Americans United for Life has written an open letter to CBS News' Bob Schieffer, who is moderating tonight's debate between John McCain and Barack Obama. AUL is calling on Schieffer to address an important topic ignored in both previous debates: abortion.

To that end, AUL has submitted excellent questions for Schieffer's consideration:

    questions2.jpg

While each candidate's position on Roe v. Wade is well known, it remains unknown what restrictions on abortion each candidate would support in order to achieve the widely agreed upon goal of reducing abortion. And that is the question I encourage you to ask: What restrictions on abortion would you support in order to achieve the widely agreed upon goal of reducing the number of abortions in our country?

    Possible follow up questions include:

  • A recent study by Dr. Michael New (University of Alabama) found that parental involvement laws reduce abortion by 13-31%. Do you support the right of parents to be involved in the medical decisions of their minor daughters when abortion is being considered?

  • Do you support taxpayer funding for elective abortions?

  • Do you support laws that mandate abortion clinics meet minimum health and safety standards commonly applied to other types of medical practices?

  • Do you support laws requiring abortions be performed by licensed physicians?
  • What questions would you ask?

    I would ask:

  • Do you support laws allowing a doctor who has aborted a baby to be the only practitioner assessing that baby for viability if s/he survives?
  • Another pro-life female political rising star

World magazine included an inspiring feature story about Republican Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann in its October 4/11 edition. I became aware and impressed by Bachmann during her stand to defund Planned Parenthood as well as her debate on Larry King against PP CEO Cecile Richards.

    Words of Choice

words of choice.jpgApparently there is a long-running play called Words of Choice that has pro-aborts bonding in group hugs.

Yesterday's Words of Choice blog gave us a peek into their world when excitedly recounting a performance before world renowned abortionist George Tiller in way off-Broadway Wichita:

On October 9, the cast of Words of Choice... presented the premiere performance of Words of Choice II in the First Unitarian Universalist Church in Wichita....

Wichita, of course, has some of the serious highs and lows of the fight for reproductive freedom.

The highs include Dr. George Tiller, one of the nation's most accomplished and dedicated ob-gyns and abortion providers. He performs difficult surgeries that many women are unable to access elsewhere. Women travel from throughout the country to see Dr. Tiller and his incredible and caring staff. Other highs are the members of NOW that carry forward the ideals of reproductive freedom, and the Maggot Punks, a group of mostly-young people who unmask and bark back at the virulent elements of the Religious Right....

    ABC censors 2nd pro-life ad

On October 10, the National Right to Life Committee announced the ABC Radio Network had refused to run the audio version of the following anti-Obama ad during the Sean Hannity radio show.

NRLC reported ABC emailed that the ad, "while supporting aspects of a Pro-Life position, weighs more heavily toward electioneering." Well duh. It is indeed an electioneering ad, paid for by NRLC's Political Action Committee, the function of which is to electioneer, allowed under federal law.

    Nathan

    nathan.jpg

I used to list my friend Nathan's pro-life blog on my blogroll. We became email friends first and then met last year at a pro-life event in OR.

We went to dinner and laughed with friends at a great organic restaurant (where I discovered organic beer is even better than beer laden with artificial ingredients and preservatives).

Quirkily, Nathan and I share a love of the scent lavendar. He gave me a bottle of lavendar lotion he made (which is sadly almost gone).

Nathan told me he had emerged from the homosexual community and still battled feelings I couldn't understand but empathized with.

A few months back, Nathan returned to the homosexual lifestyle. He and I have played phone tag ever since. I wanted him to know I was still his friend.

Yesterday on his blog Nathan answered the question, "Am I still pro-life?" Opening the post, I was afraid I'd be hurt by what he had to say, but I was not. Here is an excerpt...

    Time magazine's Scherer 3x blind

On September 25, Time magazine's Michael Scherer wrote in a web article entitled, "Smear Wars: Welcome to negative ad season," which was included in the October 6 print edition:

BornAliveTruth.org has been advertising in swing states with the misleading claim that Obama supports the death of fetuses born after failed abortions. (Obama opposed an IL senate bill he said could have jeopardized other abortion statutes; at the time, IL law required doctors to save the lives of all viable fetuses after birth.)

He followed it up with a September 29 MSNBC appearance stating:

So the Born Alive Truth ad, it is true that Obama when he was in the State House in IL opposed a bill that would have declared a human person those fetuses who survived an abortion. What's not true is that it somehow meant he supported infanticide. At the time it was very clear under IL state law that any viable fetus who survived abortion had to be saved by the doctors during the procedure.

I appreciate that Scherer took my call after the first article was posted, and I note he avoided calling abortion survivors fetuses in his third botch. But botch he threepeated....

Liberal blogger forges pro-lifer Dawn Eden's SAT scoresheet in Sarah Palin scam

    Here's a bizarre one.

Attempting to make smarty Sarah Palin look dumb, liberal blogger Gawker posted fake SAT scores and high school grades forged from pro-lifer Dawn Eden's SAT scoresheet.

Read all about it at The Dawn Patrol.

A commenter on The Straight Dope found Dawn's original and wrote:

[T]he scanned copies are at exactly the same angle, not perfectly square with the scanner's edge. The "blocked out" bits for both copies are identical: look at the "telephone number" space, for example. The remaining dot clutter is absolutely identical in both images. The dates are identical, except that "85" was changed to "82". Interesting that the "report date" of both tests would be March 23rd; in 1985, the date on the real results form, that was a Saturday, which is a typical day for SAT testing. In 1982, the date on Palin's photoshopped form, March 23rd was a Tuesday. And the real form has the same 5-3-3-1-2-3 that appears on the altered form, in precisely the same spots in the boxes.

I'm reminded of the forged documents swallowed whole by Dan Rather disparaging George Bush's National Guard record.

Liberals clearly can't let their candidates win on their own merits. But they need to find another felonious method. Forgery clearly isn't their strong suit.

Palin's PA speech of Obama and the life issue

Yesterday I posted an Associated Press article that included excerpts from Sarah Palin's October 11 speech in Johnstown, PA, when she took on Barack Obama for various heinous positions on the life issue.

The Republican National Coalition for Life has distributed that entire segment of Palin's piece, which is simply excellent. Here 'tis:

    palin johnstown 2.jpg

In this same spirit, as defenders of the culture of life, John McCain and I believe in the goodness and potential of every innocent life. I believe the truest measure of any society is how it treats those who are least able to defend and speak for themselves. And who is more vulnerable, or more innocent, than a child?

When I learned that my son Trig would have special needs, I had to prepare my heart for the challenges to come. At first I was scared, and Todd and I had to ask for strength and understanding. But I can tell you a few things I've learned already.

Yes, every innocent life matters. Everyone belongs in the circle of protection. Every child has something to contribute to the world, if we give them that chance. There are the world's standards of perfection... and then there are God's, and these are the final measure. Every child is beautiful before God, and dear to Him for their own sake....

Media Research Center: "Media silence on abortion aids radical Obama"

By Rich Noyes and Matthew Balan of the Media Research Center, today:

Two of the 3 presidential debates have now passed without either candidate being asked about abortion, an issue that nearly four out of ten voters said was "very important" to them, according to an August Pew survey. What makes the abortion issue especially salient this campaign year is Barack Obama's extremely liberal record - which may also explain why the big broadcast networks have practically avoided the subject.

    obama debate 2.jpg

TV reporters barely mentioned Obama's pro-abortion stance during the primaries - from the launch of his candidacy in January 2007 through the end of the primaries in June 2008, just 6 out of 1,289 network evening news stories about Obama (0.46%) mentioned his position on abortion; none discussed it in any detail. It was thus unusual when ABC's Terry Moran pointed out, in a February 25, 2008, story on World News, that Obama was "considered a reliable liberal Democratic vote in IL... opposing efforts to ban so-called 'partial birth abortions.'"...

New ad on Obama's Born Alive Act and PBA Ban opposition

UPDATE, 10/9, 3p: I'm told the ad buy in NC, PA, and WI was large, which is good.
    _______________

    According to NPR:

A brand-new nonprofit organization with a classic attack-group name is airing TV ads in battleground states knocking Obama on his abortion stance.

The Committee for Truth in Politics, which was incorporated just one week ago in NC, is running the ad in PA and WI [and NC]. Showing images of a cooing, yawning baby, the ad says, "Sen. Obama, why did you vote against protecting infants that survive late-term abortions, not once but four times?" It concludes, "Call Senator Obama. Tell him to stop trying to overturn these basic human rights."

The ad echoes the recent message of Born Alive Truth, an IL 527 organization.

The incorporator and sole director of the Committee for Truth is NC attorney Bill Peaslee, formerly the chief of staff, legal counsel and political director for the NC Republican Party....

I've thought the world of Archbishop Raymond Burke for years for strongly upholding the sanctity of life wherever he served, one of too few stalwarts to refuse communion to known pro-abort politicians. I've been happy to see Burke rewarded for his steadfastness with a steady stream of promotions, most recently to Rome. DHHS asked to investigate spike in Medicaid funded abortions for rape

The following letter and chart were just publicly released.

The Hyde Amendment restricts federal taxpayer funding for abortion under Medicaid only for cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. In FY2007 the number of funded abortions more than doubled - attributable to an increase in abortions paid for under the rape exception, entirely concentrated in 1 state, IL. Abortions funded under that exception in IL increased from 20 in FY2005 to 84 in FY2006 and 363 in FY2007

Word is IL Department of Public Health officials are dragging their feet on the DHHS investigation, the cause for DHHS's delay in response to congressmen. IDPH is now saying it'll have the requested info in December - conveniently after the election. I have 2 guesses where the spike in "rape" abortions will be found: either among Planned Parenthood mills or Cook Co. Hospital. Click to enlarge:

New Stanek WND column, "Seriously, Doug Kmiec is a legal scholar?"

    WND%20logo.gif

Doug Kmiec is a constitutional law professor at Pepperdine University, former law school dean of Catholic University of America, and former legal counsel to Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush.

Kmiec's Republican and Catholic credentials have given him heightened prominence as a Barack Obama apologist. Kmiec just published the book, Can a Catholic Support Him?: Asking the Big Question about Barack Obama, and is currently participating in a nationwide "Faith, Family and
    Values Tour"
    on Obama's behalf....

    Where to start?

First, I'd recommend Kmiec give up and simply declare this muddled section, "a non-viable, but temporarily alive, but unborn child with a transient heartbeat," the fault of an aberrant manuscript transcriber.

Then, Kmiec could not possibly have read the Born Alive Act before writing....

Kmiec is in serious need of his own law clerk. Not only did he miss the aforementioned, he expressed further ignorance of IL law by stating, "[T]here isn't a county recorder in the country who would record a live birth" of a "temporarily alive" child.

On the contrary, the state of IL requires that all babies born alive, no matter what gestational age and no matter how fleeting their lives, be issued legal birth certificates....

According to Kmiec, very premature babies are not legal persons. If this were true, bashing them over the head to expedite the end of their "temporarily alive" status would be legal....
