UPDATE, 12/1, 9:35a: Running weekend question through today. Daena still home.
_______________
Barbara Walters interviewed Barack and Michelle Obama for ABC's November 26 20/20.
During the interview Michelle said:
The truth is, you know, and Barack knows this about me, I, I love kids...
There's a disconnect here, not only on Michelle's part, who has called partial birth abortion a "legitimate medical procedure," but on the media's part.
Have you ever heard MSM call out a pro-abort who makes a statement like this: "How can you say you love kids but support abortion?" No.
Why is that?
Happy Thanksgiving! I'm leaving in 30 minutes to pick daughter Daena up from O'Hare, who is flying in from DC. This year will be the first year all 3 kids, wives, and 4 grandsons will celebrate Thanksgiving at our home. My Mom and Dad will also be here. It is going to be a happy day, for which I am very thankful to God.
Rich and I bought the boys matching Hawaiian outfits last February while on vacation, and they'll all wear them today when we take their Christmas photo for our card. Can't wait for that.
Been up since 4a. Listening to a Kris Kristofferson cd as I set the tables. Man, can he write... Me and Bobby McGee, Loving her was easier, Why me Lord?
But I digress. Thanksgiving, yes.
Daena wrote this year's Presidential Thanksgiving Proclamation, interjecting a reminder to respect for the sanctity of life as often as she could. Happy Thanksgiving!...

Announcing a joint project by Stand True and Survivors: Survivor Sunday.
I'm VERY happy about this. Ever since the election, I've been convicted to call on pastors and priests around the country to acknowledge the January 22nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade by preaching on the sanctity of life.
I just haven't had the time to organize an effort. But it's much better for the generation directly impacted by abortion to implore their pastors and priests to speak against abortion. I think they'll get a lot farther. (That is not to say we older people shouldn't make the same request.)
'Bravo', Stand True and Survivors for launching this effort! Read page 2 for the whats, wheres, and whys.

And just when you thought you could no longer be shocked. Well, sit down. Planned Parenthood of IN is selling Christmas gift certificates. And yes, they can be used toward abortion.
Can't respond any better than Matt did at LoneStarTimes.com:

I probably don't need to say much more than the Washington Post and USA Today wrote glowingly of a new "pro-life" plan. Red flags arise.Last week USA Today editorialized:
Realism seems to have struck some ardent foes of abortion. After 35 years of trying to outlaw the procedure nationally while chipping away at abortion rights state by state, they have decided to add a new and sensible initiative. They'll work with the other side to reduce the number of abortions.
It's not that the opponents changed their minds or that they're any less committed to their cause. It's just that they have done the new math. And the numbers don't add up to more anti-abortion justices on the US Supreme Court or a sea change on the issue among most Americans.
The new "pro-life" coalition is composed of Barack Obama supporters....

Lesley's reasoning was honest, although, despite what she did and saw, she's still pro-abortion. 'Don't get that. But here's how she decided, after helping commit a 2nd trimester abortion:
"It was definitely gruesome," she said. "You could make out what a fetus could look like, tiny feet, lungs, but it didn't look like a person." She knew this abortion was an act that her friend Litty considered tantamount to murder. She herself expected to be very upset....Continue reading "Why I decided not to be an abortionist"But this was different. She didn't regard the fetus as a person yet. ... Alan Colmes will relinquish his role as co-host of Hannity & Colmes at the end of the year....Colmes said, "I approached Bill Shine (FNC's Senior VP of Programming) earlier this year about wanting to move on after 12 years to develop new and challenging ways to contribute to the growth of the network. My husband and I watched the documentary Pregnant Man on Discovery Health last night.
It showed how "gender reassigned" Thomas Beatie got pregnant: by choosing sperm on the Internet whose donor had "wife" Nancy's coloring and was smart, mail-ordering it, receiving a canister with the sperm on dry ice, heating it to 90 degrees, and injecting it via needleless syringe.
The world sure has changed, and so quickly. It seems to me it is suddenly spinning out of control.

Well, M25N lives on to continue its attempt to break down the pro-life movement by changing beliefs on how to stop abortion. Its message, emulating Obama's, is that to strategy must shift from trying to outlaw abortion to enacting policies that reduce abortion.
Pro-lifers certainly agree policies should be implemented to reduce abortions, but we disagree with the policies Obama and his proponents tout.
On November 21 M25N reposted a USA Today editorial approving these plans. (Red flag: MSM agreeing on anti-abortion strategy.):
By seeking common ground, they can make procedure less common....

I don't remember much of anything; it was quite surreal. We stood in a long line in the West Wing's Roosevelt Room and were ushered in as a family for our 1 minute alone time with the President in the Oval Office. He was waiting to greet us by the couch as someone announced who Daena was. The President took an instant shine to 8-year-old grandson Gabriel. Someday these will be collectors' items in remembrance of a day of infamy that no longer holds meaning: January 22, 1973, when the U.S. Supreme Court legalized abortion on demand by judicial fiat in all 50 states throughout all 9 months of pregnancy by its Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions. Click to enlarge.
Steve Waldman of the liberal Christian website Beliefnet.com has picked up on this serious situation in the pro-life movement outlined in my WND column this week.
Purist and incremental hardliners have taken theory to reality and directly sabotaged a ban that would have outlawed 97% of all abortions in 1 state, sentencing real - not theoretical - South Dakotan children to their deaths.
What I find most interesting is the purists' unwillingness now to accept responsibility for the SD ban's loss. Several times in the last 2 days, they've e-mailed me or written in the comments section on my WND post that the ban's defeat wasn't their fault, when it was. The ban lost by 5% and John McCain won by 8%.
I also now know SD Right to Life sent mailers to pro-lifers telling them to oppose the ban. I'm trying to get my hands on them.
Why don't purists want credit for their victory?
Patrick O'Hannigan has a great piece in today's American Spectator....
... For every Newsweek reporter who wondered why there was no "central debate" over abortion in the presidential campaign, thousands of other people saw that debate spotlighted more glaringly than ever before in the warp and woof of the rival tickets, with a pair of pro-life candidates facing off against their decidedly ambivalent counterparts....
One wonders how Newsweek would explain the name recognition that little Trig Palin now enjoys.

Or, to put this another way, had abortion not been a significant campaign issue, the endorsement of Obama by Catholic law professor Doug Kmiec would not have made the splash it did.Instead, Kmiec abandoned past service in Republican administrations to parlay off-the-scale approval ratings from Planned Parenthood for Obama into a cottage industry, defending the idea that electing a president who has never supported even modest restrictions on abortion rights would somehow reduce the level of abortions nationwide. (With arrogance masquerading as magnanimity, Kmiec now says he would change his mind if the Pope personally corrected him.)...
Sure enough...

Yesterday Susan e-mailed me:
My baby was aborted on this day years ago. I am unable to think of a better way to spend today other than attempting to end the slaughter.
Susan picketed the medical office of abortionist Frank Rodriguez in Palm Beach, FL with her friend Marilyn, below.

Many moms who have aborted feel getting involved in the abortion movement would be hypocritical. Susan demonstrates the opposite is true. She is now standing in the gap for babies, which is so helpful to the cause. How many people learned yesterday that Rodriguez is a baby killer thanks to Susan and Marilyn?
Doing nothing, partiularly when you personally know abortion hurts children and mothers, only helps the other side.

Lauren was kept on life support until she delivered a healthy baby girl in February 2007.

Doctors have given a woman a new windpipe with tissue grown from her own stem cells, eliminating the need for anti-rejection drugs....The transplant was given to Claudia Castillo, a 30-year-old Colombian mother of two living in Barcelona, suffered from tuberculosis for years....
Once doctors had a donor windpipe, scientists... stripped off all its cells, leaving only a tube of connective tissue.
Meanwhile, doctors... took a sample of Castillo's bone marrow from her hip. They used the bone marrow's stem cells to create millions of cartilage and tissue cells to cover and line the windpipe.
Then here's another example of either media bias or stupidity. A Reuters story started today:
Stem cells from tiny embryos can be used to restore lost hearing and vision in animals, researchers said Tuesday in what they believe is a first step toward helping people.
But read on. Turns out scientists added genetic factors to frog stem cells and injected them into blind frog embryos. The born tadpoles could see.
So here we have a case of adult stem cells helping embryos, the opposite of the liberal plan. They'll never learn - they don't want to - but will Americans?

Newsweek, November 14 (November 24 issue), theorized there will be an Obama baby boom 9 months from now (August 2009) due to celebratory sex in the wake of his victory.
That would be great, but I'll hazard a sad guess there'll also be an abortion boom in 2-3 months, given the world view of the majority of his supporters.

The Spanish daily La Razon has published an article on the pro-life conversion of a former "champion of abortion." Stojan Adasevic, who performed 48,000 abortions, sometimes up to 35 per day, is now the most important pro-life leader in Serbia, after spending 26 years as the most renowned abortion doctor in the country.
A Freeper has posted a more detailed story on Adesevic, originally published in Love One Another Catholic magazine in 2004, a triumphal read, although gory and heartbreaking along the way....
Stojan Adasevic will never forget the day he was organizing the filing cabinet in the doctors' room. He was a medical student at the time. A number of gynecologists entered the room. Paying no attention to the student crouched over a pile of papers in the corner, they began swapping stories about their medical practice.

Dr. Rado Ignatovic recalled a patient who had come to him for an abortion. The procedure failed because the doctor had been unable to align the cervix. As the gynecologists went on discussing the woman's history, Stojan, who had been listening in, suddenly stiffened. He realized that the woman under discussion -- a former dentist at the nearby clinic -- was his mother.Continue reading "Stojan Adasevic""She's dead now" -- observed one of the doctors -- but I wonder what happened to the unwanted child?" Stojan couldn't resist. "I'm the child!" he said, getting up. Silence fell over the room. Seconds later the doctors were walking out.
Over the years Dr. Adasevic would have cause to recall that event many times. It was perfectly clear to him: he owed his life to the fact of a failed abortion. He would never make such a blunder himself. Many women were referred to him because of difficulty in aligning the cervix. This was never a problem for Stojan. He became the best abortionist in Belgrade....

But Paglia is also the 1st credentialed liberal I've seen express serious concern about Obama's birth certificate, questions about which I've been dismissing as conspiracy theory. It was the Sunday after the election, and everywhere I looked I could only see impending doom. There is no way God would have allowed Barack Obama to become president were He not finally turning America over to judgment, to whatever great or lesser extent that will be.
I sat in my mother's church and was surprised to feel anger when the worship leader smiled and sang the same songs as ever, as if life hadn't drastically changed the week before, as if the Church itself wasn't indicted by Obama's election.
Then my eye caught....
I described that incident on my blog Monday and got enough notes of sympathy I decided I'd better get a grip. Pity is pathetic.
Enough of this, I said to myself. Barack Obama is only a man....

Got this email from a friend of mine, a pro-life leader in TN...
I don't want to add to anyone's despair, but even I was shocked last evening at the all night post office here in Nashville when an African American in line greeted an entering black pastor.
Naturally (?) the conversation began loudly with how well things were going with a fresh wind blowing, etc. I barely shook my head near the back of the line when a black woman next to me cheerfully said, " guess you don't agree." I responded as most pro-lifers would that it was exciting to have a black president but not one so committed to killing the unborn... not to mention using our tax dollars to accomplish it.Continue reading "Going postal over Obama"At first, she gently chided me saying that many people pay tax dollars to fund practices to which they object (stem cell research, death penalty, etc.) I told her that I also objected to those practices as well. She started to heat up, however, as an elderly black woman injected her view that women seeking abortions were "going to have to answer to God for that....
This is just scandalous. Not only did pro-life actions against the SD abortion ban stop it, but they likely stopped all future efforts. Reported Medical News Today yesterday:
The defeat of abortion ballot measures across the country - such as SD's Initiated Measure 11 to ban virtually all abortions in the state - may have been the result of divisions among antiabortion groups, the Tennessean reports.Continue reading ""Fractures within antiabortion movement helped doom ballot initiatives""Opposition to the measure in SD came from the antiabortion groups American Life League and SD Right to Life. The groups did not support the measure because of its exceptions to the abortion ban - cases of rape or incest or in narrowly defined instances "to preserve the health or life of the woman."...

A couple days ago Kim H. at Feministing wrote a critique of my column last week, which I ignored frankly because it was foolish and not very original.
Silliest of all was Kim's inability to grasp the meaning of my hyperbolic ("a figure of speech that is an exaggeration") use of the terminology "4th trimester" abortions in the 1st paragraph, to describe, as I explained in the 2nd paragraph, Barack Obama's support of "abandoning abortion survivors to die."
Kim had to let me know, "'Tri' means three."
I was disappointed Kim didn't appreciate my creative flair (although I must give credit to Fr. Frank Pavone for 1st coining the "4th trimester" term) but could only comprehend the dimension in front of her, the black and white on the screen.
But now I'm getting heckled by some of Kim's like-nonminded friends who don't understand what I meant either, even though I was kind enough to explain it for crowd densities. For instance, Lauren A. of Michigan Technological University emailed me this morning to wonder, "What, pray tell, is a fourth trimester?"
And then came a not very nice note from Rosie W.-G....

The head of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, opening a national church meeting Monday, said that continued support for abortion rights will undermine any advances in social justice that come from a new president and Congress....[I]n a later news conference, [Cardinal Francis] George... said bishops' are preparing to lobby the Obama administration on any policies that diverge from Catholic teaching on marriage, abortion and other issues....
Catholic leaders - who run hospitals, adoption agencies and other charities nationwide - are deeply concerned that any changes in state and federal law not interfere with policies in Catholic agencies that reflect church theology.
They'd best be prepared to close doors if Obama attempts to follow through with some of his plans.
I'm feeling very militant these days. We'll just see how pro-life we all are. If we all refuse to blink, we could beat Obama back. He can't enact policies that close hospitals.

According to the New York Times the U.S. bishops were the real losers in last week's election:

The election revealed how bitter divisions among some Catholics have become, but it also revealed how many others are just shrugging off the bishops' teachings.
Along with the NYT, the Washington Times attributed Obama's win in large part to the Catholic vote. Lots of useful information in this article....

Frustrated advocates adopted an "Oregon-plus-one" strategy, believing that if only a second state legalized assisted suicide, it would put the winds back into their sails. That theory is about to be tested.
It is 6 days after the election, and my sorrow persists, if not deepens. Maybe I'm depressed. I look around and can only sense impending doom. I don't know how people can smile, how life is just going on.

The Obama campaign announced over the weekend it has "compiled a list of about 200 Bush administration actions and executive orders that could be swiftly undone," according to the Washington Post.
Whenever we think of President-elect Obama undoing pro-life policies, reflect back that they were done by President Bush. We shall soon have a better understanding as to just how pro-life he was.
Executive orders and policy changes will be just part of the story. Also track Obama's deadly staff and department appointments in contrast to President Bush's.
So here's a first look at the leaked list. Note the changes are ALWAYS about money....

I mentioned yesterday I had been inundated with responses to my column Thursday, most in agreement or close to it but some hostile. I wrote I would try to address the haters today.
I still may do that, although I know they just want to spew, not dialogue. Or I may just post some of their emails to give glimpses into their souls.

Barack Obama was elected president despite the fact he supports abortion into the fourth trimester....Either the 63 million people voting for him didn't know about his radical record, which includes abandoning abortion survivors to die, didn't care, or didn't believe it.
Meanwhile all three state pro-life initiatives failed Tuesday....
And both state anti-life initiatives passed....
Altogether, this means we are fooling ourselves if we think the United States is still a Christian nation. Its people just elected a barbarian as president, authorized the killing of both its youngest and sickest, rejected scientific fact that human life begins at conception, blocked parental intervention of abortions of young girls, and voted down the wording of an abortion ban they said only two years ago they would support....

These numbers come from Americans United for Life:
U.S. House
There are 435 House members. 218 are needed for a majority. There are currently 185 sold pro-life members and 32 nominal pro-life members to equal 217, one less than needed for a majority.
Democrats picked up 19 seats (with 8 additional still being contested). Of those, "17 [are] pro-Planned Parenthood representatives," according to PP CEO Cecile Richards.
So pro-lifers suffered a net loss and have moved further away from a majority.
U.S. Senate
Pro-lifers sustained 5 losses.3 races are still open: Ted Stevens (R-AK), Norm Coleman (R-MN), and Saxby Chambliss (R-GA). All 3 are pro-life.
There are currently 39 pro-life senators. If all 3 of the aforementioned go on to win, there will be 42, meaning we will be filibuster-proof in the Senate.
So the prospect of Congress passing the Freedom of Choice Act is shaky, but pro-lifers must remain on guard for any movement whatsoever. Barack Obama has already promised he welcomes signing it.

The national election Tuesday was not only historic for the election of the first African-American president in the nation's history but also for how little the avalanche of Democratic votes changed the political alignment in Congress....Republicans, though discouraged by the election's outcome, believe Obama will be hard-pressed not so much to enact his agenda but to keep his popular majority, which he considers centrist, as he moves to enact ultra-liberal legislation....
Jeffrey Shapiro, Wall Street Journal...
The treatment President Bush has received from this country is nothing less than a disgrace. The attacks launched against him have been cruel and slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve we have. The president is not to blame for all these problems. He never lost faith in America or her people, and has tried his hardest to continue leading our nation during a very difficult time. Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can be when our president needed loyalty - a shameful display of arrogance and weakness that will haunt this nation long after Mr. Bush has left the White House.

UPDATE, 9:30p (CT): Ok, I'm retiring from reporting state calls for president, unless McCain picks up an unforeseen win.
A couple more disappointments, the loss of Marty Ozinga (R) as my Congressman to replace Weller and also Melissa Hart (R-PA) in a rebid for Congress in OH. Losses of such good pro-lifers. But it looks like Michelle Bachmann is hanging on.
General thoughts...
A guy interviewing me on radio yesterday asked, "If Obama wins, you know he's coming after you, right?" That had never occurred to me. The concept is so presumptuous.
Actually, the opposite had occurred to me, and that's how I responded: "No, if Obama wins, I'm coming after him."
My thought has been in recent weeks when pondering the almost unthinkable that an Obama win might provide an opening I frankly couldn't find with the Bush administration or Republican held Congress. Obama has protested so strongly that he opposes infanticide of abortion survivors, it would seem a good time to propose enforcement penalties to the Born Alive Infants Protection Act....

As the article below states, here we have a study catching up with common sense, as will be reported in the November issue of Pediatrics according to Finda.com today.
If adults watch porn to become sexually aroused, it naturally follows that the soft porn shows on MTV and cable and suggestive shows on network TV will have a similar impact on teens.
Note it is a comprehensive sex ed proponent who downplays the results. Now why is that?
Groundbreaking research suggests that pregnancy rates are much higher among teens who watch a lot of TV with sexual dialogue and behaviour compared with those who have tamer viewing tastes.

Barely a left-wing pundit, barely an Oscar-nominated softie can sleep a wink these days for fear of the race riots and international humiliation that will ensue should "The One" be defeated on Tuesday.
They think he's going to win, of course, but their hearts still bear the scars of 2000 and 2004.
The comedian Chris Rock is at least capable of joking about it. "If Obama loses?" he replied to a question from talk show host Bill Maher. I mentioned in my previous post about leafletting church parking lots. The nonpartisan flyers are available at that post to download, print, and distribute. Anne Henderstott has a piece in Public Discourse about how dangerous it is to be a black child in the womb:
Currently, white women's rates of abortion have declined to 10.5 abortions per 1,000 women while black women's rates are an alarming 50 abortions per 1,000 black women. Put in terms of actual pregnancies, the figures are shocking: Nearly half of all African American pregnancies end in abortion.....Continue reading "Jivin J's Life Links 11-1-08"The black community has already been changed by abortion. Jill Stanek is a nurse turned speaker, columnist and blogger, a national figure in the effort to protect both preborn and postborn innocent human life.
Stupak's amendment strikes this language and clearly forbids the use of federal monies to support abortion or abortion coverage. Ellsworth's plays a shell game, a 3-card Monty that hides the subsidies through misdirection.
Pelosi allowed Ellsworth a vote because Ellsworth's amendment doesn't impact the bill's ability to fund abortion coverage -- but gives Pelosi enough political cover to strip away a few nominally pro-life Democrats to vote for her bill.
