Yesterday afternoon the US Senate confirmed radical pro-abort KS Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as Secretary of the HHS by a vote of 65-31.
Breaking it down, every no vote came from Republicans (31 of 39 Republicans voting and counting Spector as a Democrat). Both Independents, Lieberman (CT) and Sanders (VT) voted yes. Every Democrat voted party line.
Republicans voting for Sebelius:
1. Bond, MO
2. Brownback, KS
3. Collins, ME
4. Gregg, NH
5. Lugar, IN
6. Roberts, KS
7. Snow, ME
8. Voinovich, OH
Not voting :
1. Kennedy, D-MA
2. Rockefeller, D-WV
3. Sessions, R-AL
The oh-brother-give-me-a-break statement of the day? Sam Brownback...
From the beginning, I have said that I would support the nomination of my fellow Kansan to be Secretary of Health and Human Services. There is a long tradition of bipartisanship in the Senate of supporting nominations from the same state regardless of party; in the last 20 years, only twice have home state senators not supported someone from their home state.I also think it's important that we vote on this nomination today with the recent outbreak of swine flu across the country including two cases in Kansas. We need someone on the job making critical preparations that hopefully will not be necessary.
Well, that sure was convenient. I could just gag. Brownback ignores the pandemic Sebelius has and will continue to spread: abortion.
(I must say this flu crisis scenario reminds me of the financial crisis scenario that ushered in Obama. Spiritually orchestrated world events? Whatever, we are called to fight on.)
Wrap-up from the Los Angeles Times:
Immediately after the vote, Sebelius, 60, resigned as governor in KS and headed to Washington. She drove directly from Andrews Air Force Base in MD to the White House, where she took the oath of office."We wanted to swear her in right away because we've got a significant public health challenge that requires her immediate attention," President Obama said, standing with his newest Cabinet secretary.
Two of the most virulent and powerful pro-aborts in the world feign worry about a flu outbreak. No talk by either of closing the border to Mexico, btw, where the Swine Flu is hardest hitting.

Napolitano won't close the border because of swine flu. Well Jill why should she? Don't you, like her, realize that the greatest threat to our nation is our returning veterans? Men and women who have served our country honorably.
And then there's those PL and guns rights people. BOLO for those bumper stickers.
Get with the program woman.
I can't tell you how much better I sleep at night with her in charge.
Let's hope Tiller has just lost his most important ally. This may hopefully be the final nail in his coffin, if nothing else.
We can't allow ourselves to get discouraged. Rather, we need to strengthen our resolve.
We can only control what we can control - our hearts, our missions, the individual races that each one of us is called to run for Christ. We need to be faithful to Him.
There are good things happening, 40 Days for Life, CBR's Genocide Awareness Program, this website...
We need to continue in 2 Chronicles 7.14 and continue to recieve and execute God's strategy in this war.
And don't forget the end of the Book, we win!

Nothing can stop us from reaching out to young and frightened pregnant girls in our own cities, volunteering at our local pregnancy care centers, reaching out to women and men hurt by abortion and putting our money where our mouth is. No matter who is in office, we must do what we can where we are!!
Fight the good fight!!

I have to wonder how many times abolitionists were ready to throw their hands up in despair in the decades, decades long struggle to end slavery.

I think Cardinal George has hit the nail on the head:
Cardinal George offered a candid assessment of his 30-minute meeting with the president at the White House March 18.
"I think on the life issue he's on the wrong side of history," the cardinal said. "I think he has his political debts to pay, and so he's paying them."
I think Obama has done exactly what he needed to obtain the highest office in America. And if that meant getting into bed with abortionists and PP, then he did it. Now it's payback time. It's that simple.
I honestly believe Obama doesn't care a flying fig about women, babies or women rights or health.

A sociopath has no capacity to care about or love anyone. They only do a good job of convincing you that they can. They are masters of manipulation.
Look behind Obama's wide smile and charisma and you will find an empty shell.

better to not offend someone than prevent the spread of deadly flu...thats the liberal way you know. Plus, Obama just finished apoligizing to them for how awful the US is, he can't close the border now, also look at all those democrat voters coming across...
well Mary, the interesting thing is that Obama isn't even attempting to hide his despotism. He can make the paybacks because he knows he's in a position where no one in the country can do anything about it.
It's brazen and unapologetic. And so brazen that he's willing to openly mock the Catholic church and it's beliefs and try to bully the Vatican too.
Hi JASPER 7:30AM
Its only acceptable to insult our military men and women as well as those who support life and the Constitutional right to own guns.
Did you hear Air Force One was taken for a photo op joyride over Manhatten, causing a major panic, and the White House and our fearless leader claim they were totally clueless about it?
Obama did what any responsible leader does, he dumped the blame on some poor schlubs.
Most of us can tell you where our cars are at any given moment but the WH and Obama claim blissful ignorance of where a jet is!
Imagine if that was George Bush.
The easy confirmation of Sebelius, along with the Spector defection, are symptoms of the decline of a once proud political party. The GOP is evaporating before our eyes. Soon it will represent a tiny minority of Americans - the few who could pass all the litmus tests. We call you guys THE AMERICAN TALIBAN. We look forward to you tossing the last few moderates out of your party. We'll welcome them, and govern with them.
Posted by: Farslowe at April 29, 2009 7:49 AMObama made a claim on sebelious. She has a long history of health experience.
Truth is she has none. zip. Obama made it up just like he lied when he claimed there were 10,000 deaths in Greensburg kansas in a town of a 1,000 plus from a tornado. there were 12 deaths.
The American Taliban? Now that's funny!
Posted by: heather at April 29, 2009 8:08 AMFarslowe,
Dream on. Specter was a liberal and far closer to a Democrat and always has been. This move by him was to better his re-election prospects in 2010 and is a totally self serving move. He's no loss.
BTW, is the Democrat Party also a "big tent" that welcomes all viewpoints?
Perhaps the fact that Democrats had to go bowing and scraping to 3 Republican turncoats to get the "stimulus" package passed says so much more.
Where was all the bipartisanship?
You may have a point about a minority party. With the Democrat leadership wanting to let all these illegals in to spread swine flu and take jobs, that could well be the result.
The American Taliban? Get real. Please, give us some examples.
Taliban? That's funny...I don't recall ever being forced to dress in a burka here, nor do I recall being forced to stay home unless escorted by a male family member. (I can even drive my own car!) I don't recall rejoicing at the deaths of thousands of innocent people, or of burning American flags in the streets. I don't recall orchestrating 9/11.
I find it interesting how, as law-abiding citizens who choose to respect innocent unborn life, we are now labeled as "Taliban" by those who would prefer we shut up and let them kill off millions, unhindered and unhampered by any free speech that might be in opposition.
Oh, well...I guess if you have no argument, all you've got is slander...

Exactly my point. He's in a position of power that awe struck Americans put him into. Just as Germans put Hitler in power and Cubans welcomed Castro as a savior.
Obama has no conscience Angel, that explains so much of what you say in your post. Also power and control is what the sociopath/narcissist craves.
So many of his actions from day one put red flags up for me, starting with his ability to mesmerize crowds.
Posted by: Mary at April 29, 2009 8:31 AMKel, that's right. They must feel threatened by people who don't support child killing. The only terrorists at an abortion clinic are the abortionist and his staff!
Posted by: heather at April 29, 2009 8:31 AMFarslowe,
American Politics 101 - I hate to say it but many people in this country are stupid (especially Democrats - nah, just kidding, but I couldn't resist).
But seriously, many voters wake up in the morning, dissatisfied with their lives and want to blame the government. Rather than taking personal responisibility, they look at whoever happens to be in government and want to throw them out and believe the rhetoric from the newbie promising hope and change.
The pendulum has been swinging for decades my friend. When the fiscal irresponsibility and moral depravity of the current administration runs our country to the brink of collapse, I have a feeling the pendulum will swing back. Hey but it's a free country, go ahead and gloat if it makes you feel better.

I understand it was for a photo op, possibly for a future campaign. It cost the taxpayers more than $350,000. They could have photo chopped it for free. Your tax dollars at work.
It also generated major panic among Manhattan citizens, but hey, we all can use a little excitement in our lives.
What is so laughable is the WH feigning blissful ignorance. Obama, ever the sociopath, lies and lets some poor schlubs take the blame, unlike real leaders who take responsiblity for their actions. The logistics, planning, and contingency plans that go into the use of Air Force One preclude anyone taking it out on a whim or without full knowledge and approval by the WH and yes, our clueless leader.
This isn't like sneaking mom's car out of the garage at midnite for a joyride.
Mary, I am outraged! I've also noticed that a lot of people who voted for Obama have turned on him. The GM plant is right down the street from me. It seems that a lot of the workers believed that Obama was the cure all. Now they are finding out that it's not the case!

heather - technically it's not (sc)Air Force One unless the POTUS is on-board the plane. Air Force One is a flight designation.
However, it was one of the modified 747 they use for the POTUS.
When I first saw the video and the photo - I was like - Obama wouldn't do that - would he? Then you think - maybe he would.
Of course another thing you think of is - was he somehow taken hostage, because if any other 747 that went off-course would be shot down as soon as they determined a clear drop-zone.

Your comment about the political pendulum is absolutely spot on. I remember back in 2002 when Rove predicted many decades of GOP rule. The Dems might win the next couple of cycles, but anything beyond that is definitely not guaranteed.
And you mistake my incredulity with gloating. It's just hard to believe that the Republican party has unraveled so dramatically.
As for my Taliban comment, it just seems obvious that for the GOP to recover, it needs to distance itself from those who seek to create a theocracy in Washington.
Farslowe,
Regarding your comment about those who supposedly want to establish a theocracy in Washington. Please, you're only making yourself sound foolish. The Taliban comment was ridiculous enough.

There's no one seeking to create a theocracy in DC. A little thing called the Constitution was designed to prevent tyrannic rule.
And I don't know about you, but I'd much rather remain under the tenets of Judeo-Christian law as opposed to Shariah law any day. Not all religions are the same in the "freedom" department.
Calling other Americans "the Taliban" is inexcusable, when you really think about what the Taliban are and what they've done. Are there evil Americans? Yes. But those seeking to prevent the slaughter of the unborn through peaceful, lawful means are not evil.

Great point about Bush. The media would be howling like banshees,, screaming about the cost to taxpayers as well as the emotional trauma to Manhattan citizens. Therapists would be flooding the area to help trauma victims, hospitals would report increased admissions, and lawsuits would be filed right and left by traumatized Manhattan residents.
The environmentalists would scream bloody murder over the CO2 emissions, wasted fuel, and impending climate change that would certainly result. The animal rights people would wail about how innocent birds, who have more right than anyone to be in the air, might have been smucked.
We would even hear about the cost to taxpayers!

heather - it stems from editing - it's a control issue. There's incredible power in editing or changing other's perceptions about reality. That's pretty much what the devil did re: eating fruit - he edited the meaning of the commandment.
When people find out such editing provides power, they seek it like there's no tomorrow, and eventually that poisons the neutrality of journalism. There is also the idea that people desire the outrageous - if it bleeds it leads mentality.
As morals decrease in society, the desire for editorial power increases. It's just a sign of the times we live in.
On the other hand - the Internet is really putting a huge dent into their game. The "writing is on the wall" and it's only a matter of time before control is destroyed by a sort of simultaneous reporting from the field, which we're already seeing.

Each year 38,000 people die from the flu. How many die from abortion?
According to the WHO, 68,000 women die from unsafe abortion every year, 97% of them in developing countries. Thankfully, international pro-choice organizations are working to bring modern birth control and legal, doctor-performed abortion to more and more places, so all these people won't have to keep needlessly losing their lives.

Considering the population of the world that is an incredibly miniscule number. I'm surprised its that low. That's about half the population of the midwestern city I live in.
How many millions of women die yearly from malnutrition, warfare, abuse, poor health care(non-abortion related), and preventable disease? How many are aborted before birth because they are female in a society that devalues females?
Are PC groups doing anything to help these women, born and unborn?
reality, I prayed for you last night. Hope you don't mind. You know, I have friends of all different shapes, colors, and sizes. Some believe in God and some don't. Many have had abortions. Sometimes even friends have to agree to disagree. In other words, I hope you will stay!

Janet, last weekend my best friend came into town, I hadn't seen him for MONTHS. We decided we wanted to watch the baseball game and have a couple beers and some chips and dip. Except, it was Sunday. Our plans were crushed. Not only can you not buy liqour, I can't buy a dang six-pack. It's very annoying.
Posted by: Erin at April 29, 2009 12:58 PMJanet, no. That is Heather B. HI ERIN!!! I had the same problem when I tried to buy a beer in Alabama. A dry county!
Posted by: heather at April 29, 2009 1:00 PMJanet, I believe that Heather B. is PC.
Posted by: heather at April 29, 2009 1:01 PMIt's frustrating! I mean, I don't suppose it really adversely affects my life, but it does seem ridiculous and annoying. I don't really plan ahead every situation I may need a 40 or a six pack for.
Posted by: Erin at April 29, 2009 1:03 PMErin, I think that you should go for the trauma area in the field of nursing. I think you would be great in that area.
Posted by: heather at April 29, 2009 1:03 PMErin,
We can't buy liquor on Sundays until noon in my town. I don't drink so no big deal, but if I need some wine for cooking, I need to plan ahead a bit!
Have a good day!
Posted by: Janet at April 29, 2009 1:05 PMHeather- whew, man, after those days at work I would DEFINITELY need some beer. I've heard it's a field that has a really high burn-out rate, but it's also really challenging and exciting. Luckily I've got a couple semesters left to decide!
Posted by: Erin at April 29, 2009 1:06 PMHeather,
Thanks. I didn't think you were the same person, but since conversions are possible, I wasn't sure.
"Reality, I know I have been hard on you in the past, and I am sorry for that. "
Holy cow, I can learn a lot from you Heather...

This kind of hyped hysteria is typical of the lame sream media. They are desperate for any issue to get readership, listening audience and viewership up.
Hurricanes, ice storms and blizzards are their 'crisis' of choice.
In an unrelated note: pbho praises proposed wind farms in Missouri as clean sources of alternative energy.
What pbho should do is offer incentives, like tax credits and deferred income credit, to entrepreneurs who can develop a way to harness the hot air coming out of the nations capital.
Unlike the wind, which is wholy unpredictable, the emissions from Congress are as reliable as the sunrise.

Would you say you are convinced beyond a doubt that that statement is right?
Posted by: Bobby BambinoBro Ken,
If you've got a hankering for some "lame scream media", you can't do better than tune in to Fox News. They've got "scare" down to an art form.
Ethel thank you so much.
'Lame sream media' was a typo. I intended to write lame stream media'.
Lame scream media is much better description of who they are and what they do.
On April 23, 2009 the Dominican Republic was urged by its President Leonel Fernandez to consider the matter of ending the death penalty for un-born children in that country.
In a remarkable vote the lawmakers put down abortion's blood drain by a whopping 167 to 32."
In the unlikely event the ‘lap dog, liberal lame scream media’ in the USA reports on this story, the headline and accompanying fantasy will read something like this:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DOMINICAN WOMEN LOSE RIGHT TO CHOOSE
In an evenly divided, but hotly contested debate over reproductive rights, the pro-choice legislators lost an extremely close vote to keep abortion safe and legal. Only a fraction of the anti-choice legislators voted to return the Dominican Republic to the dark days of rusty coat hangers and back alley butchers preying on helpless women.
Some mainstream Dominican Republic organizations are alleging irregularities in the tabulating process and are appealing the result to the Supreme Court.
Women's rights groups are alleging a clear violation of church and state and are accusing conservative Christians and right wing extremists of the coercion and intimidation of pro-choice legislators who capitulated to pressure to subordinate women’s lives and health to religious dogma.
Matadora de Bebes, spokewoman for The Dominican Abortion Movement Network and Eugenics Defense (DAMNED), urged feministas everywhere to stand in solidarity with their oppressed sisters in the Dominican Republic.
The Dominican Republic Union of Non-religious Knowledge and Socialism (DRUNKS) has issued an urgent appeal to freedom loving people everywhere to send rusty coat hangers to the members of the legislature.
Dominicans Requesting International Protection Soon (DRIPS) are appealing to the United Nations Security Council to immediately send troops to restore the rule of law.
Hospitals across the country are preparing for an epidemic of biblical proportions as post abortive women, diseased and dying from back alley abortions, are expected to flood emergency rooms in astronomical numbers.
In a related story public health officials are at a loss to explain the exodus of reproductive health care professionals and, at the same time a completely unanticipated rise in the quality and quantity of health care.

Bobby,
I wouldn't say I'm convinced beyond a doubt, but hey, it was a really good quote, don't you think ?
I'll grant you that god could exist - any one of a thousand gods that we've worshiped through the ages. I'll even admit that snakes and bushes might be capable of speaking. It's unlikely, but I'll concede the possibility.
I suppose the same deference is owing to unicorns, the easter bunny, and those cute little trolly guys under the bridges.
Ken,
And the Fox News headline of the same story would look something like this;
WHAT'S A DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, WHERE IS IT, AND WHY IS IT THREATENING AMERICA ?
Posted by: Ethel at April 29, 2009 4:50 PMEthel,
"I wouldn't say I'm convinced beyond a doubt, but hey, it was a really good quote, don't you think ?"
No, I don't think it was a good quote at all. It's a quote that, if one believes it beyond a shadow of a doubt, automatically becomes frightening by the quotes own criteria. But if the quote is making a false statement, then it's simply that; a false statement, which are a dime a dozen.

Ethel,
That headline speaks more to the deplorable product of Americas government school systems than it does to the bias of Faux News.
Just so you know that I know.
The Dominican Republic shares the same Island with Haiti. Dominicans speak spanish and the Haitians speak french. The population in Haiti is preominanty descendents of Africans who were former slaves. The Dominican Republic population is more ethnically diverse.
I educated myself after I survived the government school system.
Suggest you take another stab at it and re-write my story with a conservative pro-life Faux News bias.
What I wrote was a joke, but it is not far at all from what we get from the 'lame scream, liberal lap dog media' on a daily basis.

Dominican Republic Approves Constitutional Amendment to Outlaw Abortion
by Mariela Rosario
Dominican lawmakers voted recently to approve a constitutional amendment that would effectively end legal abortion in the country. Assembly members approved the new Executive Branch article, which states that, “The right to the life is inviolable from conception until death.”
Aldrian Almonte, president of the Dominican Gynecology and Obstetrics Society has warned that the number of maternal deaths will increase considerably once the new laws are enforced and women are no longer able to gain access to safe and medically supervised abortions. Even if the pregnancy endangers a woman’s life, abortion will no longer be a feasible option for physicians. “I would like the honorable legislators to tell me: What are we going to do before the presence of a woman with severe eclampsia, convulsing in any emergency room around the country? What must we do, see her die to protect ourselves from the repercussions this law stipulates?” Almonte asked.
The constitutional amendment was passed despite constant and vocal objections of feminist and human rights organizations and makes abortion illegal even in the most horrific cases of incest or rape. The approval of the article came on the heels of a massive campaign by the Catholic Church in the Dominican Republic, led by Cardinal Archbishop Nicolas de Jesus Lopez of Santo Domingo.
Miguel Ceara Hatton, a coordinator for the United Nations Program for Human Development, has strongly criticized the lawmakers and the undue influence the Catholic Church has in setting the political agenda in the DR. “The Catholic Church influences everything...it has become a source for social exclusion in the Dominican Republic. The dogma is placed ahead of the needs of the population, health, housing and better living conditions.”

Looks like I did the yeomans work for American media oultets on this development in the Dominican Republic.
When I Googled Dominican Republic abortion. There were no hits for ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, FOX, PBS, New York Times, Washington Post, and L.A. Times.
I guess Arlem Specter coming out of the liberal closet pushed all the other news off the radar.
The tree fell in the forest and no major media outlet reported on it so it did not happen, right?

The D.R. is a developing nation, deeply mired in bad government, corruption and superstition. For it to make a shaky step backward from modernity is hardly newsworthy.
Ethel,
There was not one mention of the prenatal human embryo/fetus in the 'real' news article I posted.
It was almost as biased as the psuedo article I wrote myself.

Humor me. Re-write my faux ariticle with a deliberate 'pro-life' bias. Then just for fun, attempt to do the work of a 'journalist' and write the ariticle as objectively as you can, without giving weight to either side in the debate.

Ethel,
That is eerily familiar to the same language that the 'conquistadors' used to describe the people they encountered when they first came to this hemisphere.
You might want to run a level one diagnostic on your ethnocentro guage. Sounds to me like you are a little out of calibration and as a result you are judging other people by your own personal metric.

I was with you Bro, right up until that last post. And you were doing so well.
That last one really put the lie to your claim of rising above our education system on your own terms.
Go get a library card, give it a good workout, and then we'll talk.
Wow, so glad I don't live in the Dominican Republic. But glad it is getting better.
Seriously, if I went into a hospital with pre-ecclampsia, the first and only thing they would think of doing is killing my child? And the only other option would be to let me die? Not, say, delivering my baby early and giving medical care to both of us?
If that really is true--I hope that the so-called "doctor" is just overreacting or lying--the Dominican Republic needed anti-abortion legislation very, very badly.
