New Stanek WND column, "Turbulence surrounds Notre Dame 'abortion plane'"

This is finals week for students at the University of Notre Dame.

But a new kind of buzz may be getting in the way of scoring good grades, and it's not illegal (yet, anyway).

For the past 10 days the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform has been conducting an air and land campaign in, around and over the Notre Dame campus to educate students and faculty exactly what its intended May 17 commencement honoree, President Barack Obama, supports by being "pro-choice."

On the roads are CBR's "Reproductive 'Choice' Trucks," 6-paneled moving billboards with large signs such as these plastered on them:

obama sign 1 for wnd.jpg

obama sign 2 for wnd.jpg

And in the air at least 3 hours a day (6 during finals week) has been an airplane trailing a large photo banner behind it, also showing in vivid detail what Obama means when he says he's pro-choice.

It is the plane that has caused the most commotion.

Fumed liberal blogger Wonkette in a post entitled, "The stench of death: Abortion haters go nuts, really nuts, at Notre Dame"...

The pics made be weep, but just keep putting the "1000 words" out there. When some people see the very ugly truth, they want to shoot the messenger. My husband and myself love you for this. Just keep it going!

Keep up the good work and keep Obama from Notre Dame!!

Thank you, Jill!

Please continue keeping the pressure on Notre Shame University, along with all other former Catholic universities and colleges who have sold-out Jesus for 30 pieces of silver!

Re: "Neither he nor Notre Dame wants the negative image of surrendering to protesters."

Such "surrender" never bothered any of the large universities when the protesters were anti-war activists, who broke into offices and defacated in and burned the facilities. Oh how brave is Notre Dame! One of the saddest parts of this is that Notre Dame is a Catholic University, named for the Blessed Mother, the most loving and protective of Mothers. How her tears must be flowing at this time.

If you can't have faith in Catholic institutions anymore, in what can you have faith.

"me thinks thou protesteth too much" -- keep it going, Jill -- what a joy to think how many babies will live now because of this ---woooohooo!

I share your frustration but, of course, GOD will never fail us. We need to pray for ND.

Posted by: Diana at May 6, 2009 8:03 AM

That is so true! Because pro aborts cannot in any way justify the killing of innocent babies they sling mud instead and refer to pro life people as "right wing extremists", "taliban" and so on.

It sure happens right here on this blog.

Notre Dame will stand up to the thugs and protect the students, family and visitors. Good for ND!

Posted by: Bystander at May 6, 2009 8:03 PM

Oh please, Bystander. "Thugs"? The protesters who show up in South Bend will most likely be praying quietly.

Posted by: Janet at May 6, 2009 8:52 PM

Since when did peaceful protestors become "thugs"? A thug is an aggressive and violent person. The protestors have no intentions of doing this. However there will be many pictures of aborted babies..... the "choice" Liberals believe in.

But as I previously posted, you can in no way justify the horrible photos of innocent and violent death you have to resort to name calling pro life people. Shoot the messenger is what liberals believe.

Abortion is evil.

Janet, I don't think buzzing someone at low altitude with a plane is like "praying quietly". Ever see "North by Northwest"?

Seriously, I don't get the plane thing. Pilots need special permission to fly banners advertising happy hour over the football field, and anyone who had a deranged stalker or a crazed ex employee buzzing their home or place of work could get a restraining order stat. I don't know why ND tolerates the danger this represents.

Most people would agree that a group whose goal is to disrupt a college graduation are "thugs".

Since many have announced their intention to get arrested, I assume they have more than "quiet prayer" in mind. I am sure the police, campus and secret service will be more than prepared to deal with the thugs.

Bystander said, "I don't think buzzing someone at low altitude with a plane is like 'praying quietly.'"

Well, Scare Force One might be President Obama's prayer closet. He won't show us the pictures. And we (i.e. Americans) had to pay for them.

Bystander,

"Since many have announced their intention to get arrested, I assume they have more than "quiet prayer" in mind."

Please state your source.

"I don't know why ND tolerates the danger this represents."

Again, you exaggerate. The banner pilots are not "buzzing" people or buildings, a la "North By Northwest". Even if that was meant to be a joke, it was misleading. You must have gotten this idea because the news media have reported that because the "buzz" of the banner plane engine is different from the sound of the planes they hear on a regular basis in the skies above South Bend, the planes are more obvious to some students, etc.

Janet, are you ashamed of the tactics of buzzing students? Why do you try to minimize what Jill calls "psychological warfare" against Notre Dame?
Don't you want to intimidate and threaten students?

Your hero Randall Terry has already been arrested at least once, and your hero Alan Keyes has publicly stated he intends to be arrested. All the cool kids are going to jail. Get with it.

Posted by: Bystander at May 7, 2009 7:35 AM

Bystander,

Why should I be "ashamed"?. Again, no one is "buzzing" students. I explained, the planes flying over are noisier than usual. It's pro-aborts like you who are trying to incite hatred towards pro-lifers who should be ashamed.

Did Jill call this "psychological warfare"? I don't remember. so you'll need to address that question to her.

You mean to say that by "many" you mean ONE OR TWO people who MIGHT be arrested? Terry and Keyes are not my "heroes". You certainly make a lot of assumptions. I prefer a silent, prayerful protest.

Can't say I'm a fan of this column. There is something frustratingly deranged about the pro-life activists who insist on getting inside ND students' heads, with buzzing planes while they are taking finals or with graphic abortion images "every time they see their diploma," as Cunningham of the CBR said.

As for the buzzing...As someone who doesn't even live on campus and who is quite used to the drone of planes preparing to land at the South Bend Regional Airport, I must say that the "buzz" of the plane trailing the image of the murdered child is DEFINITELY audible from indoors (with a window open). It's unique--commercial planes that typically fly overhead don't make a buzzing noise like a prop plane trailing a banner does.

Of course, all of you intent on hopping on buses in a week and a half who have otherwise even been to South Bend, Indiana in your lives probably wouldn't know this...

Just another example of religious fanatics
in action. It's their way or the highway!

If they believe a "soul" in a fetus makes it a baby, then noone can disagree, OR ELSE.

What arrogance!
