After finishing my last post, Leslie and I drove to the main entrance of Notre Dame and saw news crews starting to assemble in the neighborhood directly outside the campus...
This was 6p, and there were a couple dozen pro-life protesters still hanging around the entrance of ND. They came with a busload from St. Louis (of which I was previously unaware)...
The protesters said pro-abort Obama lovers counter-protested earlier. So they'll be fun to look for tomorrow.
Then we headed over to a 7p rally at the old State Theatre in downtown South Bend.
Alan Keyes, who had just been released from jail, spoke to a crowd of 200.
Plans are for 2 mass arrests tomorrow, 1 led by Randall Terry at 11a and 1 led by Monica Miller at 1p.
NDResponse.com, the pro-life ND student group, are holding an all night Adoration at the chapel in Alumni Hall. I dropped by to chronicle the event for you. The chapel was totally full with standing room only and press outside.
Along with other things, I plan to videotape Monica's protest and potential arrest tomorrow. I'm not planning on getting arrested myself.
More tomorrow...
Comments:
Wonderful to see the chapel full. It's awesome they are having an all night vigil. God bless them.

I think it would do wonders for your soul to get arrested. And you could be taped saying, "Born Alive Infant Protection Act, google it".
If I were there, there'd be no question that I would be on CNN shown getting arrested. It would be ugly, very, very ugly and I wouldn't be singing Ave Maria or O Solitarus Domini. It'd it be more like, Queen and "We are the Champions"(and no I'm not gay).
Only, I guarantee it wouldn't be a John Lennon, Yoko Ono kind of unhairy moment (I'm Italian).
C'mon, go for it. I think it would do wonders for your stuffy image.
Did I say that? Please don't ban me, please, mother Jill.
Seriously, get arested, I double dare ya.
Posted by: HisMan at May 16, 2009 11:28 PMYou are way out of line HisMan.
Jill you have my utmost respect and admiration.
Posted by: Joanne at May 17, 2009 12:26 AMJoanne:
I guess you just can't comprehed humor.
Guess what, I think Jill can handle it.
Find another way to suck up, just don't do it at my expense.
Posted by: HisMan at May 17, 2009 12:45 AMJoanne:
Jill knows me, she understands me, and what in the heck can we say after all this crazy crap happening at ND and in the world but try to get a few yuks out of it?
It's all so insane.
So please, put away the ruler, the habit, and the crazy look on your face and don't do your Mother Superior routine on me again.
Posted by: HisMan at May 17, 2009 12:55 AMYou know what?
I can't stand Geraldo Rivera.
I'd like to kick his elitist butt back to Puerto Rico.
The wimp downplayed the whole ND thing. The guy is an enemy to the pro-life movement.
Posted by: HisMan at May 17, 2009 1:07 AMAmen, Joanne @12:26AM. HisMan sounds like the noisy gong and clashing symbol of 1 Cor 13:1 tonight. You can pull your Mother Superior routine on me any time :)
Posted by: Fed Up at May 17, 2009 1:23 AMGee:
A Catholic quoting the Bible.
How convenient.
Well, I guess that a slight improvement.
Posted by: HisMan at May 17, 2009 1:36 AMThank you Fed Up.
Does anyone seriously think if Jill was arrested and she said to google born alive infants protection act that 1) The Communist News Network would air this and 2) even if they did...... this was news during the election and some people either chose to ignore it or simply didn't believe it. It's hard to fathom anyone would vote against protecting babies once they are out of the womb. After all, even extremist pro aborts like Clinton and Boxer agreed we should save them. But not so for Barry. And I think many simply did not believe it. If I remember right McCain even mentioned something about this in the last debate. It was ignored.
Posted by: Joanne at May 17, 2009 1:47 AMJill Hennessey is on Huckabee. Great if she's a conservative! I know Angie Harmon is too. Not everyone in Hollyweird is a far left liberal. Nice to see!
Posted by: Joanne at May 17, 2009 1:52 AMOh and one last thing. Supposing Jill got arrested and said to google Born alive infants protection act that 1) the communist news network would show this and 2) even if they did, most people would not believe it. This was news during the election. It's hard to believe anyone could vote against protecting babies once they are born. Even radical pro aborts like Hillary Clinton and Barbara Boxer voted in favor. But not Barry.
Posted by: Joanne at May 17, 2009 1:56 AMJoanne:
Get serious will ya.
This was a joke.
And I'm sure Jill took it that way.
Besides she's a real big girl.
Lighten up.
Posted by: HisMan at May 17, 2009 2:00 AMYes Jill is a big girl. It didn't sound like a joke to me. I really think these arrests are pointless and not advancing our cause in any way. The legitimate protests are one thing but these people are going out of their way to get arrested? The media is covering what is going on there, arrests or not.
Posted by: Joanne at May 17, 2009 2:05 AMFor the 4th time, it was a joke and you and Fed Up looked, well.......
I guess Martin Luther King's arrests and Rosa Parks civil disobedience were all pointelss too?
Gee, I guess it's time to just take our ball and just go home.

Posted by: HisMan at May 17, 2009 2:10 AMHisMan, I wish you a pleasant rest of the evening. I'll leave you with James 3:8-10.
"...but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. This need not be so, my brothers."
HisMan, you can choose to speak the truth in love and humility or you can speak it with sarcastic self-righteous zingers. The choice is yours. I admit I fall short of the mark I aspire toward. Only you know the mark you're aiming for. God bless.
I didnt say that. You have to admit that Barry must have been getting the message from pro life activists long before Notre Dame. Otherwise, why has he backtracked on FOCA? He promised Planned Barrenhood it was the first thing he would do. Now he says it's "not a priority." Rabid pro aborts like Boxer are silent on it. Only possible reason is they know there would be a huge backlash.
And what about the latest poll that showed more Americans are pro life than pro abortion? It's only one poll but it's the first time in YEARS this has happened.
I think possibly many voters who did not know or else didn't believe Barry was such a radical found out differently once he started funding overseas abortions, talked about cancelling the conscience clause for health professionals, etc. Most people do NOT want unlimited abortion with no restrctions. That is why I posted earlier tonight that there is a fairly good percentage of "pro choice" people who are soft on their support and can be changed to pro life. At least that is what I believe.

You're preaching to the choir.
Christians get pissed off too. So get real. Cut the pious churchianity crap.
Abortion really pisses me off just as the killing of a five year old would.
Geesh.
Posted by: HisMan at May 17, 2009 2:27 AMThis isnt the first time pro life activists have gone out of their way to get arrested. You have to admit it hasnt changed things a whole lot.
I still say Sarah Palin did more for the pro life cause than anyone else I can think of recently. Because of her it became well known that 90% of downs' babies are aborted. She chose life for her son. I'm sure many people were appalled to discover how few of these babies live. And she spoke passionately and from the heart about why she is pro life. Who is more qualified than a woman who refused to abort her child when in all likelihood she was advised to do so?
I think Sarah Palin made more of a positive impact than Keyes getting arrested a dozen times ever will.
Posted by: Joanne at May 17, 2009 2:38 AMCut the pious churchianity crap.
Good to know that the sacred scripture you so often direct to others is pious crap not applicable to you. G'night and God bless.

I'm in your corner. :)
Posted by: Joanne at May 17, 2009 3:24 AMJill, thank you for your coverage at Notre Dame.
I gave some of this under another post; but that thread may be dead so I hope you don't mind my repeating this. I think people here will be interested. . .
For anyone who would like to know more about Fr. Norman Weslin, see this interview that Fr. Pavone did with him in 2001:
http://www.priestsforlife.org/media/weslin.htm
See also this column by Fr. Pavone:
http://tinyurl.com/qqolsb
Which includes the following,
"Fr. Weslin believes that while Jesus Christ's babies are being legally slaughtered by the thousands each day, God wants at least one of his priests in jail. It is not that Fr. Weslin seeks jail; it is that he is willing to endure it if it is the price to pay for taking a stand for the babies."
He is quite an amazing man. For years, for the sake of the unborn, he has been quietly, peacefully and with no violence, getting arrested and spending time in prison. He has been abused in prisons. And he has also been an instrument of grace to prisoners as well. I personally met Fr. Weslin when I worked for Priests for Life and he told me that he uses his prison time like a spiritual retreat and as a time of joining with Christ in His suffering, for the sake of others. He uses it as a special time of prayer and also of ministry to the men behind bars. (If my memory serves, he told me there is nothing like praying while unjustly imprisoned). He sees himself as a priest with a special ministry to be in prison--but not as a chaplain--as a fellow prisoner, suffering with the unjustly accused Jesus, witnessing to the sanctity of life. Fr. Weslin is a widower and a former Army officer, and has children and grandchildren. He is very humble and very courageous. An amazing man.
Scotty, thanks for the info on Fr. Weslin. As of last night, he was still in jail.
HisMan, I hear you. I understand what you're saying. And btw, I agree Geraldo sucks. His segment last night was pathetic.
Posted by: Jill Stanek at May 17, 2009 5:30 AMI've always wondered where that little weasel Geraldo stood on this issue.
Posted by: heather at May 17, 2009 7:23 AMJust pulled up the Geraldo You Tube video. At least he agrees that abortion is murder.
Posted by: heather at May 17, 2009 7:41 AMHere's the trouble with Geraldo...He's a mealy mouth.

...not to mention egotistical.
Posted by: Mary at May 17, 2009 10:36 AMI distinctly remember years ago Geraldo saying how he helped pay for an abortion of an airline stewardess girlfriend he had. I don't listen to him anyway.
