New Stanek poll: Who is America's most trusted newscaster?

poll%20graphic%20correct%20size.bmpI have a new poll question up:

A Time magazine poll just named Jon Stewart "the most trusted newscaster in America." Who would you choose?

Here are the results of my previous poll. Given the anticipated ideology of the bulk of the readers on my blog, the #1 answer wasn't a surprise. But pro-lifers apparently didn't automatically pick human embryo experimentation as their #2 answer...

Weekend question

weekend question.jpgYesterday the National Right to Life Committee bestowed its first ever "Phony-Baloney Citation" to Rep. Kendrick Meek (D-FL), for claiming to seek "common ground" on abortion in a letter he co-signed this week to Nancy Pelosi proposing reproductive healthcare "reform."

kendrick meek.jpgBut meanwhile Meek has racked up 30 anti-life votes in his mere 6 years as congressman, including opposition to parental notification, the Partial Birth Abortion Ban, and fetal homicide penalties. As recently as last week Meek voted against amendments to the healthcare bill that would have prevented mandated abortion insurance coverage and public funded abortion.

This week's question: To which politician(s) would you give a Phony-Baloney Citation?

Blue Dogs want to bite Waxman's face off

UPDATE, 5:35p: And it appears they've already kissed and made up? From The Hill, at least they're again willing to be in the same room together, but that's about all. Meanwhile liberals are now whining for attention...

Hours after calling their chairman a liar, Blue Dogs on the Energy and Commerce Committee stood by that chairman's side and announced together that the once-collapsed healthcare negotiations are back on track....

The fact that talks have resumed, however, do not mean that any additional agreements have been reached. And as they stood by each other's side, both Waxman and Ross alluded to the fact that, substantively, talks haven't budged from where they have been stuck for days....

As the Waxman-Blue Dog drama played out, House Democratic liberals warned that they should not be taken for granted....

Woah. Read this, from The Hill this afternoon:

House healthcare negotiations dissolved in acrimony on Friday, with Blue Dog Democrats saying they were "lied" to by their Democratic leaders....

The 7 Blue Dogs on the Energy and Commerce Committee stormed out of a Friday meeting with their committee chairman, Henry Waxman (D-CA), saying Waxman had been negotiating in bad faith over a number of provisions Blue Dogs demanded be changed in the stalled healthcare bill.

"I've been lied to," Blue Dog Coalition Co-Chairman Charlie Melancon (D-LA) said on Friday. "We have not had legitimate negotiations....

Obama's "science czar" is a dangerous man

by intern Andy M.

Unsurprisingly, Obama neglected to make reference to Holdren's extremist views on population control and instead focused on his expertise in relation to "the growing threat of climate change."

Stolen ashes of preemie baby recovered

This little preemie weighed 14 ounces and died a few minutes after being born. Shaunice was so precious to her parents they had her cremated to memorialize. The media loves this touching story, perhaps because it has a happy ending.

But the same schizophrenic media promotes the killing of babies the same age as Shaunice through abortion. The most recent example were the many stories excusing or promoting late-term abortions after the killing of George Tiller.

From the Associated Press, today:

janie.JPG

Janie Brunson and her boyfriend sat at the Opa-locka [FL] bus stop, cradling the small, white box containing the ashes of a baby girl - the beloved remains of her 2nd miscarriage within 8 months.

The 23-year-old woman looked up to see a gun pointed at her. She begged the man not to take her baby's ashes.

But the man ignored her pleas, snatching the box and a gold chain....

USA Today: Pro-abort misframes abortion debate

A July 23 article in USA Today entitled, "Abortion fight is 'enduring divide,'" began like this:

usa today arguing outside supreme court.jpg

During confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, Sen. Tom Coburn, R-OK, asked whether she believed court rulings on abortion had ended the national controversy.

In a departure from the oblique answers that marked the hearings, Sotomayor paused, then answered bluntly: "No."

The incendiary debate over abortion rights endures and can be jarring, as when abortion opponents interrupted at several points the Senate Judiciary Committee session with Sotomayor. The controversy has boiled up in other ways in the days since then....

Pro-life House Democrat Gang of 39 stalemates nationalized healthcare push

On June 9, 2008, RH Reality Check's Dana Goldstein queried,"The new anti-choice Democrats: Can we work with them?"

I wrote last week that a bloc of 39 pro-life Democrats voted against taxpayer funded abortions in DC. Here was the final tally (click to enlarge):

    pelosi at news conference.jpg

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, speaking at a news conference with advocates for health care reform, said... the House Democratic leadership has the votes to pass a health care bill - a claim that was immediately challenged by an anti-abortion caucus that fears the House bill will create a government-run insurance plan that covers abortion services.

Landmark lawsuit filed: pro-life nurse forced to assist with late-term abortion

On May 24, 2009, pro-life operating room RN Cathy DeCarlo was on call at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City, where she had worked for 5 years.

michael silverstein.jpgMt. Sinai gets $200 million in federal funding annually, so even though it commits late-term abortions it is obligated by the Church Amendment not to force pro-life staff to help.

Dr. Michael Silverstein (pictured right) called the OR to schedule an "emergency" abortion of a 22-week pre-eclamptic patient. The patient was not on magnesium sulfate, her blood pressures were not in high risk range, and Silverstein even charted her as "Category II," not "Category I," meaning he thought she required surgery not immediately but within 6 hours....

New Stanek WND column, "YouTube serially aborts pro-life videos"

    WND%20logo.gif

By now you're likely one of 1.5 million people who have seen the graphic video of Neda Soltan dying after being shot in the chest on June 20, 2009, during protests in Iran following the presidential election.

The video shows Neda collapsing into the arms of 2 men, who try to stop her bleeding with their bare hands. Suddenly, Neda's eyes roll up and to the right, almost as if they are looking at the cell phone video camera chronicling her death. Blood begins pouring from her mouth and nose, into one eye and down her face. Cries erupt from the crowd, and you know Neda is dead.

    video removed.jpg

I don't know how the tragic video of Neda's death is any less graphic than a video by the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform showing the tragic, graphic deaths of children by abortion, but it is according to YouTube, which removed this video.

There's something about showing abortion that sets it apart from all other videos in the Big Brother eyes of YouTube.

YouTube allows almost any surgery video imaginable, like gastric bypass, gallbladder removal, toe amputation, appendectomy and brain tumor removal, and gross-out body parts videos like a buttock fecal fistula or peritoneal cancer - but not abortion.

Neither does YouTube have a problem with videos pertaining to the female anatomy like mastectomies, breast augmentations, hysterectomies or even baby deliveries - but not abortion, unless it is in the form of bloodless illustrations.

YouTube also seems to go out of its way to protect the abortion industry, particularly Planned Parenthood.

To date, YouTube has removed 8 videos posted by Lila Rose and Live Action Films shot undercover at PPs in several states....

But it's not only PP YouTube protects. It also provides cover-up for run-of-the-abortion-mill skanks....

    Aborting a family

Murder has such a tragic ripple effect. Blogger Abbas_Princess mourned the senseless killing of her niece of nephew in "Death in the family" June 30:

I've held off for a couple of days writing this, hoping that my thoughts and emotions would sort themselves out into something coherent. They haven't as yet, but I shall write anyway.

    empty arms.jpg

It's not your usual death. However, it grieves me greatly. My life will forever be missing someone. Whenever I think of it, and the circumstances surrounding it, my chest constricts in a way I've never known, and I weep, not only for myself, but for Adam, for my children, for my parents.

But most of all, for my devastated dearest brother, who's first child was aborted by his ex-girlfriend at 11 weeks.

If I'm honest, and I'm so glad I can be here, I'm angry. Furious even. I loved that precious little life. I'd never met his girlfriend. But I adore my brother, and he was so overjoyed to become a father. It's all he's ever wanted. I'm angry because Rob didn't want her to. I'm angry because, as in his words, "But what could I do? She didn't want it."...

Durbin: DC abortions are high because residents are black

Am in DC at the moment and learned more today about the political super-underhandedness to lift a 15-year-old ban on taxpayer funded abortions in DC.

One for instance: A rule introduced on the House floor last night to lift the ban was losing when time ran out. But Democrat leadership refused to lower the gavel, holding the vote open until they had twisted for arms to switch (Berry, Dingell, Minnick, and Peters), and the rule passed 216-213.

Obama, more Catholic than the Pope

    by Carder

KathleenKennedy1a.jpgYes, Barack Obama. So wrote Kathleen Kennedy Townsend (pictured right) on July 9 in Newsweek magazine. Behold, willful ignorance:

In truth, though, Obama's pragmatic approach to divisive policy (his notion that we should acknowledge the good faith underlying opposing viewpoints) and his social-justice agenda reflect the views of American Catholic laity much more closely than those vocal bishops and pro-life activists.

When Obama meets the pope tomorrow, they'll politely disagree about reproductive freedoms and homosexuality, but Catholics back home won't care, because they know Obama's on their side. In fact, Obama's agenda is closer to their views than even the pope's....

"My Sister, Alicia May" and Reece's Rainbow

    by intern Heather B.

MySisterAliciaMay.jpgIt's time to make room on the bookshelf for another gem: My Sister, Alicia May gently portrays the familial love shared by a girl and her younger sister, who is "special for many reasons," among them being that she has Down syndrome.

The 13-page children's book takes the reader on a "day in the life of"-like saga narrating the blessings and hardships of growing up with a sibling who has Down syndrome. Written in the first person, each page draws a new example that beautifully emphasizes the joys experienced by a proud and patient older sister....

Yoest to testify this afternoon at Sotomayor confirmation hearing

UPDATE, 9:12a: The Washington Post blog has thoughts about the minority's pick of Charmaine to testify on the pro-life issue today:

Yoest is a calm, articulate, smart abortion opponent -- the kind who gives abortion-rights supporters nightmares.

Charmaine has posted on AUL's blog that today's the day. Here are details:

My testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to take place tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon - please tune in and then let us know what you think. If you're not able to view the hearings on TV, you can view the hearings online at C-Span.org. GOP senators get A for Abortion on Sotomayor grilling

Bravo, bravo. Click on first few words in each piece for link to entire article...

    soto 1.JPG

On the abortion front, I'm struck by two dynamics at work in Sonia Sotomayor's confirmation hearings. One: Republicans are attacking the idea of a constitutional right to abortion with a unity and forthrightness not seen in years, grilling Sotomayor on how the Constitution could be construed to contain such a right.

Two: As Republicans lift their voices on the issue, Sotomayor is evading all questions about her personal views on abortion. While recognizing that she considers Roe v. Wade to be settled law, Sotomayor has gone out of her way to obscure her personal position, disavowing signs that abortion rights supporters and opponents have taken as evidence of her pro-abortion rights views....

But Arpaio's also tough on abortion. He tangled and lost in court to the ACLU in 2005, when according to LifeNews.com:

Arpaio had prohibited the taking of prisoners for abortions... because taxpayer funds would be involved in the transportation and staff time needed.

Lila Rose exposes AL Planned Parenthood on The O'Reilly Factor

I previously posted about Live Action Films' latest video exposing Planned Parenthood's cover-up of statutory rape in yet another city and state, this time Birmingham, AL.

On July 10, LAF's Lila Rose went on Fox's O'Reilly Factor with AL Attorney General Troy King to discuss the Birmingham PP sting, which revealed PP was not only willing to cover-up underage rape but also to help minor girls avoid AL's parental consent law by getting false permission signatures:

King requested and got a copy of LAF's video to investigate PP's intent to break the law.

(FYI, late last week YouTube inexplicably censored LAF's undercover investigative video of the Birmingham PP without explanation, despite the fact LAF carefully followed their terms. In fact, YouTube has now removed all 8 of LAF's video exposes against PP.)

New Stanek WND column, "'Common ground' vs. zodiac abortions"

    WND%20logo.gif

In his Jan. 22, 2009, proclamation lauding the 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, President Obama wrote we must "reduce the need for abortion ... [by] find[ng] common ground to expand access to affordable contraception, accurate health information and preventative services."

Since then, "common ground" has become the talk of the pro-abort town.

A month ago, the pro-abortion website RH Reality Check, funded by Ted Turner, even launched an "On Common Ground" forum, inviting thinkers from both sides to publicly contemplate.

To date, of 15 contributors, only 2 are solidly pro-life - Kristen Day of Democrats for Life and Serrin Foster of Feminists for Life - and they have each only posted once.

The problem is pro-lifers fundamentally oppose every "common ground" plank Obama and pro-abortion strategists unilaterally established, which were, in English, widespread contraception distribution, comprehensive sex education and taxpayer funding of the "family planning" industry, i.e., Planned Parenthood.

The equivalent would have been for President Bush to say, "We must work to find common ground to stop government subsidizing of contraceptives, expand abstinence education and defund Planned Parenthood." Right....

When my son Gunner (pictured above with Mommy and Daddy and left) was born, it was the best day of my life. But it was followed soon after by the worst day of my life -- when he was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, a life-threatening genetic disease. Gunner was just over two months old. AP IDs pro-life protesters but not liberal counterparts, like Code Pink

From the Associated Press, July 14:

Norma McCorvey, 61, of TX, better known as "Jane Roe," began screaming that Sotomayor was "wrong" about abortion during the opening statement of the newest member of the Senate, Al Franken, D-MN....

Capitol Police identified the other three arrested as: Robert James, from VA; Andrew Beacham of IN; and Francis Mahoney of FL. Police did not provide their hometowns....

Sweetness & Light has noted the "suddenly meticulously informative AP," keen on getting the name, rank, and serial number of pro-life protesters at the Sotomayor hearings, when it doesn't bother with such details when covering liberal Code Pink protesters.

    Wrote Sweetness & Light:

This stands in stark contrast to the way the AP and the rest of our watchdog media treat radical leftwing protesters, such as Code Pink.

What you should know about the Abortion-Breast Cancer link

    by intern Anne Marie D.

Note: Anne Marie is a nursing major. The following is an excerpt from her research paper on the link between abortion and breast cancer.

[JLS note: Anne Marie does a fabulous job explaining the ABC link in this piece!]

breast-cancer-cell.jpgIn essence, the case for a link between induced abortion and breast cancer, or the ABC link, is based on several simple biological principles. Minimal background in breast physiology will suffice to introduce these principles.

First, the main units of the breast are lobules, which consist of milk-producing glands and ducts, composed of individual breast cells. Four types of lobules exist. From the end of puberty until the 3rd trimester of her first full-term pregnancy, a woman's breast tissue is comprised of Type 1 and 2 lobules. Type 1 lobules, or ductal lobules, are associated with 80% of all breast cancers (Bachiochi, Ch. 8). Both Types 1 and 2 lobules are considered cancer-vulnerable....

Using Obama's lie pledge to the Pope

Pro-lifers should keep Obama's pledge to the Pope handy at all times.

Heretofore Obama and his people have been careful to say they want to reduce the "need" for abortion, not the "number." Big difference.

president and pope 2.jpgBut about Obama's meeting last week with the Pope, Catholic News Service reported:

"The president explicitly expressed his commitment to reducing the numbers of abortions...." [Vatican spokesman Fr. Federico Lombardi] said.

"Need" is not quantifiable, "number" is. In fact, Obama's commitment to the Pope directly contradicts a statement in May by Melody Barnes, his White House Director of Domestic Policy Council:

"It is not our goal to reduce the number of abortions.".... The goal, she insisted, is to "reduce the need for abortions."

    O'Reilly covers pro-life t-shirt controversy

The good news is the controversy about the 7th grader suing her school to wear her pro-life t-shirt got 2-1/2 minutes of air time on The O'Reilly Factor last night.

The other good news is neither O'Reilly nor Megyn Kelly considered the photos of preborn babies to be "graphic," as administrators at McSwain Elementary School in Merced, CA, asserted.

The bad news is both O'Reilly and Kelly still came down on the school's side in this case. Both thought the shirt could be considered "disruptive," particularly to younger children, since this is a K-8 school. Both thought it was the photos that did the shirt in. Not mentioned was similar if not identical photos are in same school's textbooks.

I disagree it was the photos alone that were problematic. I expect the 7th grader could have worn a wordless shirt with the same photos and been just fine. No, it was the combination of the word "ABORTION" with photos of beautiful preborn children that became "disruptive."

Ginsburg on Roe and eugenic abortions

UPDATE, 7/12, 7:15a: Here's more insight on Ginsburg's comments by Wesley Smith at First Things, including the fact some of her comments were views on abortion policy, which as a Supreme Court justice she shouldn't express.
    _______________

I've been reading and rereading Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's interview in The New York Times Magazine, upcoming in hard copy this Sunday but published online July 7. This part I understood:

    ginsburg nyt.jpg

Q: If you were a lawyer again, what would you want to accomplish as a future feminist legal agenda?

Ginsburg: Reproductive choice has to be straightened out. There will never be a woman of means without choice anymore. That just seems to me so obvious. The states that had changed their abortion laws before Roe [to make abortion legal] are not going to change back. So we have a policy that affects only poor women, and it can never be otherwise, and I don't know why this hasn't been said more often.

Ginsburg was saying that with or without Roe, women "of means" did and will have access to abortion due to the financial ability to get themselves to states where it was and will be legal. (And even if illegal they have had and would have access.) Roe is about making abortion available to "poor women."

    Sarah Palin, why?

Two phrases from the Book of Esther often roll off the tongue in my Evangelical circle.

queen esther.jpgAfter beautiful Jewish girl Esther miraculously became Queen of Persia, a plot was hatched to kill all Jews in the land. Esther's cousin Mordecai, when asking her to plead with the King to stop the Holocaust, said, "And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?" (vs. 4:14)

Mordecai's request was not so easy. Anyone approaching the King unsummoned risked death if he did not raise his scepter. So upon agreeing to approach the King to plead for her people, Esther acknowledged her potential fate by responding, "If I die, I die." (vs 4:16)

We often recite those quotes when trying to decipher the will of God and pushing forward.

So have Sarah Palin and her counselors. After she was nominated as the GOP VP candidate last summer, CNN wrote...

RH Reality Check: "Jill Stanek doesn't want to prevent abortions"

jill stanek doesn't want to prevent abortions.jpg

    Where to begin...

I've been writing quite a bit on the new pro-abort tactic of wanting to find "common ground" on abortion.

One initial problem is the "common ground" parameters pro-aborts unilaterally set (kind of a "common ground" deal breaker from the get-go, I'd say) disallow any conversation on abortion when discussing "common ground" - on abortion. The closest they will allow is discussion of "reducing the need for abortion," but that cannot mean "reducing the number of abortions," no.

malachi.jpgI say we discuss what Americans would consider "common ground" on this topic, such as banning 3rd trimester abortions, sex-selection abortions, and race-based abortions.

Americans by-and-large agree those are bad. Americans also by-and-large agree parental involvement laws are good as are laws mandating informed consent before abortion.

Americans would be surprised to learn the abortion lobby disagrees, which is why we can't discuss abortion when trying to find "common ground" - on abortion. Americans would be shocked to learn hard core pro-aborts even disagree that aborting a baby who would otherwise be born under the wrong zodiac sign is wrong.

    But I digress....

Under the legislation being worked on by three committees in the House, Americans earning up to 400% of the poverty level - $43k for an individual; $88k for a family of four - would be eligible for government subsidies to help them purchase coverage.

But if the anti-abortion legislators get their way, those subsidies would have a big string attached; they could not be used to purchase a policy that has abortion coverage. For many women, that would mean giving up a benefit they now have under their private insurance policies.

It juxtaposes video of a funeral held in May 2008 for 23 aborted babies found earlier that year in dumpsters of MI late-term abortionist Alberto Hodari with video of the actual retrievals and babies' remains.

I was struck by the song playing in the background, how perfect both the melody and words were for the video ("Do you see me? Do you know who I am? Do you hear me? Did you show me?.... Tell me who I am." - read all on page 2) It wasn't until I read the credits that I saw the lyrics were composed by CPLS Director Dr. Monica Miller, music by Mark Cabrera and Peter Mulka, vocals by Peter Mulka, and produced by Mediatrix Records. Abortion "common ground" suggestion: emulate NYC anti-smoking campaign

RH Reality Check has launched a new "common ground" site, inviting pro-life and pro-abortion thinkers to explore areas where we can work together.

obama irreconcilable.jpgOf course, the upper echelon of the abortion movement has no intention of finding common ground, which Obama himself recognized in his Notre Dame speech as ultimately "irreconcilable," as The Guardian headline from that date indicated.

The tag on that headline reveals why the push for "common ground" by Obama and his minions: They're losing the PR battle. As I've said before, only those losing appeal for compromise. Winners don't have to and shouldn't. At any rate, pro-lifers never will.

Whale Wars - when terrorism is heroism

    whale wars.jpg

In November 2008 Animal Planet began airing a reality show Whale Wars.

    The premise, according to Wiki:

The program follows Paul Watson, founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, as he and his crew aboard the MV Steve Irwin attempt to deter Japanese ships that hunt minke and fin whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary in the name of scientific research. Environmental groups dispute the Japanese claim of research "as a disguise for commercial whaling, which is banned."

So at present, although controversial, the killing is considered legal.

Here's the trailer. You'll see the anti-whaling crew throwing "stink bombs made of glass bottles filled with butyric acid," according to Wiki, at the whalers. They respond by throwing "flashbang devices." Apparently the whalers also fire shots. Watson shouts, "I've been hit!" and shows a hole in his bulletproof vest directly over his heart. That incident has been disputed as staged...
