Kate + 8 - Jon; Jon delays divorce

I agree with USA Today that the timing is "interesting," although I'll take it. Jon Gosselin wouldn't be the 1st rogue to sow wild oats only to find the grass isn't greener (bad mixed metaphor, sorry):

Only moments after TLC released the news this morning that Kate is moving on with without Jon, In Touch Weekly is reporting that Jon has submitted court papers to suspend his split with Kate for 90 days.

For whatever reason, I hope the 2 get back together for the sake of their kids. More from Pop Eater:

It's a busy day in Gosselin-ville. Jon Gosselin is trying to slow down - if not halt altogether - his divorce from Kate Gosselin, telling In Touch Weekly exclusively: "I regret my conduct since Kate and I separated.... I used poor judgment in publicly socializing with other women so soon." He's filed paperwork looking to stall the divorce for 90 days "to regain control over the future of our family."...

In other news, TLC has announced that Jon & Kate Plus Eight will now be titled Kate Plus Eight, and Jon's role will be minimized.

Gosselin's lawyer, Mark Jay Heller, tells In Touch that his client "woke up one morning, looked in the mirror and didn't like the reflection." In turn, Gosselin filed paperwork hoping to stall his divorce from Kate for 90 days, telling In Touch it will "enable Kate and me to restore our relationship as cooperative parents and to open up our lines of communication. I hope that she will be as receptive and enthusiastic as I am to do what is best for our family."

"Even though we were heading for a divorce, it appeared that Kate had been suffering from this divorce as much as I had. That's why I asked my attorney to put the brakes on this divorce so I could try to regain control over the future of our family. So Kate and I could join on a cooperative course that would benefit our family - not destroy it," Jon tells In Touch Weekly....

The renamed Kate Plus Eight, which begins Nov. 2, will continue to chronicle the lives of the Gosselin kids (5-year-old sextuplets and 8-year-old twins) but will also focus on Kate's role as a single mother.

"It's not a huge shift, but it's reflective of where the show was already going," said Eileen O'Neill, TLC's president and general manager.

"Jon's going to be involved in the show," she said, adding that he will be seen less often than before. TLC retains an exclusive arrangement with him, as well as the rest of the family, O'Neill said....

Finally, a few more tidbits from the LA Times blog...

"Given Jon's recent antics, there was no way the show could continue to portray him as a doting dad, not while all this other crap was going on," a source tells People.

We're shocked! You mean people don't approve of this separated man having sex with nannies, dating tabloid reporters, hanging out in Vegas, and handing off his dogs to their breeder?

The viewership has admittedly dipped dramatically. Only 4.2 million viewers tuned in to see Jon & Kate on Aug. 3. A mere 1.7 million watched last week.

Apparently, TLC thinks people will come back to watch Kate Gosselin and those adorable kids.

It's definitely going to be interesting to watch a single mom cope with 8 kids.

Plus Kate has all those other irons in the fire now. Like....

She recently completed a guest-host run on The View, and she reportedly taped a pilot for a talk show on the Food Network.

Hey, maybe they should call the show The Live-In Nanny and Kate plus 8?

Writing men out of the show - what the liberal feminists do best.

America would do better by paying more attention to their own families and less voyeuristically viewing other families, like the Gosselins.

I agree Chris.

AND I think that TLC is exploiting the children as is anyone who watches this trash.
I seriously doubt Jon wants back - he just wants "control". Hence the statement: "That's why I asked my attorney to put the brakes on this divorce so I could try to regain control over the future of our family.

Maybe he should have thought about this BEFORE he slept around.....

The blame is not entirely on TLC. Jon and Kate.... and the Duggars.... are even more to blame for allowing their children to be exploited. Afterall, they ARE the parents.

My life was going perfectly well without my ever having heard of the Gosselins.

I used to like that show and I hoped that they would get back together, that they just needed a break from all of the stress.

But, really watching the show, it's obvious that both of them were abusive to the other. They verbally abused each other and even when they went on vacation all that they did was argue argue argue.

And this carrying on like this in magazines- with their children in the spotlight? I don't know what to think of them anymore besides, "You both need to stop focusing on fame and fortune and pay attention to your kids."

They should never have been on that television show. I can't stop thinking about the kids. :(

SO tired of hearing about this trainwreck.

Sorry to go off topic here -- but under the heading of Pro-Life In Unexpected Places, there's an episode of a show on this coming Saturday that's worth checking out. The show is called The Legend of the Seeker -- set in a Lord of the Rings-esque fantasy world -- and the episode, Sacrifice (saw it when it first aired a few months ago)is about a debate over whether or not to kill a newborn who, for various magical reasons, is expected to grow up to be evil. This episode is proof that not all of Hollywood is pro-abortion and we should all support it by watching it. It's also really good, imho. It's on at different times in different cities. You can go to www.legendoftheseeker.com and find out when it's airing where you live. Again, apologies for going off topic.

News reports need to say...Jon's new lawyer has decided that he has done too much damage to recover at this time. We need to put as much time and space between his current behavior and the "new image" we are going to paint in the next 90 days. We are hoping that this will allow Jon to at least keep the shirt on his back. Right now Kate has him exactly where she wants him and he doesn't like that....

Posted by: heatherheart703 at September 30, 2009 1:46 AM

Jon made it very clear to several news sources that:

  1. When TLC came up with the show idea, he objected and did NOT want TV cams even for 1 special which is what J + K + 8 originally was

  2. that he definitely NOW wants out of the show and planned to NOT allow HIS time with the kids to be filmed

Furthermore, I hold NO hopes for their marriage and predicted it would end in the next few years... why? Because:

  • Kate is very overbearing and Jon is good natured but eventually that just doesn't work in most marriages

  • Kate is somewhat OCD -she even admits this in her book... which most folks I would assume have not read.. and that is difficult to live with

  • Again from the book, Jon never wanted ANY kids so Kate was pushing it with the twins and when she insisted on the next conception that was really overriding him

  • he has taken a real hit with the sextuplets - besides having TV cams in his home several days a week, he lost at least 1 job (or maybe more) because of his having to help with them - do the math - for kids he didn't want in the first place - however we feel about this, kids SHOULD be a decision of BOTH spouses

  • Kate was forever sniping at him, even in front of the TV cameras

  • being a part of a TV reality show like that has been known to ruin marriages anyway

My take is that he was "obvious" about a g/f because how else was he going to get out of the marriage? Just because Jon has not cried to the media (and Kate has REALLY milked it) doesn't mean he doesn't have some right on his side. Suggest reading Kate's book available in bookstores... it's enlightening. Many don't know that the kids' lives have not really changed. Jon stays the weekend with them in the house and Kate takes off and then Kate is there during the week..when she not touring (which she does a lot of) or working 3 days a week as a nurse. Bottom line, the kids have been from an early age, mostly in the hands of caretakers, not their parents.

I think her favorite child out of all of them is fame.

Posted by: Cranky Catholic at September 30, 2009 8:43 AM

Yeah but its not like Kate went off the pill behind Jon's back and conceived those kids. They used IVF so if Jon never wanted kids then grow some ______s and stand up and tell Kate "No!" Jon is a wuss. period. And a gross wuss. Who looks at his hair plugs and love handles and pierced ears and thinks he's sexy? I don't get it.

The point is, yes, Kate is a shrew, but Jon is a scumbag. No one is thinking of those poor children. They are going to grow up someday and be able to find all the copies of tabloids with their father's sexual exploits. And at the end of the day their home is broken...so sad.

Posted by: Sydney M at September 30, 2009 9:06 AM

I can't believe people care about this show -- goofy ex-husband, be-atchy wife and unattractive bratty kids -- what's there to like?

Posted by: Phillymiss at September 30, 2009 10:56 AM

This whole show has been about exploitation and over exposure. Who can live under such scrutiny and pressure? It is a shame that these kids lose out as a result.

Posted by: Abortion Support at September 30, 2009 10:59 AM

I think the kids are cute, and all the rest is just fluff. I'd be happy to see a show about the kids, without any mention of any parent. Maybe have the nanny appear with them? That would solve so many problems at once... and the kids would still get money for college, and other stuff.

Posted by: Doyle Chadwick at September 30, 2009 11:32 AM

In the end the children always lose. No amount of "college fund" money will undue the damage these two parents have exacted onto them...fame and fortune has become the Ninth child! All of it is sad and TLC is exploiting all of these losers.

Posted by: eileen at September 30, 2009 12:00 PM

"The point is, yes, Kate is a shrew, but Jon is a scumbag."

Absolutely. I haven't seen the show but at first I thought that Kate was the main source, but now I"m seeing there must have been off-camera issues. Kate has done her share to contribute to their problems, but Jon is the one going to clubs telling people he "is single" and having obvious affairs (while saying he 'despises' Kate- hey wonder what the kids say when they see that later). Meanwhile Kate is actually IMO becoming more of an adult about the whole thing.

The whole idea of a show like this is disgusting as well as having all of your personal laundry out like this, but let's be honest here, Jon deserved to get his a** kicked off of that show. He acted like their problems allowed him to go on a spring break. I can't imagine him being defended at this stage in the game.

Posted by: prettyinpink at September 30, 2009 3:32 PM

If I never hear of Jon and Kate again for the rest of my life, I will be very heppy. I think Kate is a raging witch and Jon is a spineless jerk. It's been obvious to me since the first time I watched that the marriage would end. Now that it has I think the show should be cancelled. I'm hoping folks will definitely stop watching. I try to imagine how those kids must feel about all of the dirty laundry in their little unsuspecting lives being paraded in front of the whole world. Their parents love money more than their kids. It's shameful.

Posted by: Dee at September 30, 2009 4:40 PM

They didn't use IVF.

"and unattractive bratty kids -- what's there to like?"
Posted by: Phillymiss at September 30, 2009 10:56 AM

Who the hell calls kids that young "bratty" and "unattractive"? Bratty maybe, but who's fault is that? Apparently you've seen their awful parents. Calling a bunch of poor exploited kids ugly makes me think you're rather worse than any of the people on the show. That's just sickening.

Posted by: Nicole at October 1, 2009 8:20 PM

You're right. She ramped up her hormones with pill treatments.

Posted by: Abel at October 5, 2009 9:16 PM

I can certainlly understand that the least changes to the children's lives at this time will be better for them; I can understand Kates decision to want to keep them on the program, since afterall she may not be able to trust Jon supporting the children. It does provide a way for her to continue to be a stay at home mom-which is so necessary in today's time.I believe she truly loves those children. It is very hard to forgive the man you trusted and loved-when he acts irrational and all of a sudden makes decisions that satisfies his selfish desire-not thinking what effect it would have on his children. My prayers are whatever is best and honest for the precious children-will rule.
