From what I'm reading the psuedo-feminists are either dismissing the following study (Amie Newman at RH Reality Check: "So, if you're a lap dancer you shouldn't take the pill and women who don't take the pill are attracted to dominating men? Can we put some parameters on what actually gets researched in this country? Please?") or not liking it (Feminist Philosophers: "I just fear that this will be picked up by some groups as another excuse to fulminate against oral contraception, because 'oohz noz! they are messing up the human race!'")

Also don't forget estrogen from the Pill is water has been found by several studies to feminize male fish. So women on the Pill may be getting what they're helping create, wimps.

The Webby Award, according to the official website, is the "leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet." This year marks the website's 13th Annual Webby Awards Commencement Gala, to be held June 8 in NYC.

Nominated websites will be judged in categories ranging from "Billpaying" and "Beauty" to more prestigious superlatives, dubbing some lucky recipients with the "Best Home/Welcome Page" and "Best Use of Animation/Motion Graphics" titles. The awards attract an audience exceeding 10k.

Pro-lifers argue aborted babies might have been the next Einstein, or the curer of cancer, etc. And there's that great ad about the unlikely rise of Barack Obama given the circumstances of his conception.

Now the other side is spinning the argument their way. A German condom company called Doc Morris Pharmacies has released 3 condom ads implying condom use could prevent the birth of the next world terrorist.

The ads may be too witty for their own good. The Chinese are now mad their dear leader, Mao Zedong, is swimming with Hitler and Osama. Whoops.

Nor are the ads scoring well in test marketing. It makes sense people dream their progeny would paint like Michelangelo or lead like Reagan but not kill like Stalin.

3/11, 12:15p: Contrary to what has been reported elsewhere, Congress yesterday did NOT sneak back into the stimulus package the universally scorned "birth control bailout" of expanded Medicaid funding for contraceptives to Planned Parenthood.

What Congress DID do yesterday was restore a loophole the Bush administration removed (which I've written on before, so PP will once again get to buy birth control pills from drug companies at discount prices and take advantage of higher income women by reselling them at high prices. For the past 2 years PP has been forced to pay the same for bc pills as everyone else.

My goodness, the celebration has expanded! Not too long ago, there was only National Condom Day, celebrated in conjunction with Valentine's Day (i.e., "VD," get it?). Now the sexual balloon fest lasts an entire week. Reported Planned Parenthood in an email alert February 14:

Here's the greatest condom commercial ever, in PP's opinion, promoting casual sex with a caveat: "You gotta use a ticket if you want to ride the ride"...

The New York Times on February 10 reported the FDA has undertaken "an unusual crackdown" against Bayer, manufacturer of the birth control pill Yaz, forcing it to issue corrective ads for "overstat[ing] the drug's ability to improve women's moods and clear up acne, while playing down its potential health risks" in previous ads.

Here's 1 of the 2 ads that got Bayer in trouble. Note the balloons indicating "headaches," "acne," and "feeling anxious" will float away if women use Yaz:

I sure wish I could find the other ad, which sounds funny on so many levels, but it has vanished off the Internet. According to YourLawyer.com, it
"featur[ed] women singing 'We're not gonna take it' and kicking, punching, and pushing balloons imprinted with words such as 'irritability,' 'moodiness,' and 'bloating'." That song, incidentally, was by Twisted Sister, seen here giving a shout out to Yaz at a concert. As I said, so many levels of unintended parody....

Here's the deal.

For over 35 years the US has had civil rights laws protecting health care workers from participating in procedures they find unethical or immoral, like abortion.

Yesterday the Dept. of Health & Human Services issued a regulation to ensure compliance with those laws.

Bottom line: If a health care entity gets government funding and violates conscience laws, the funding can be terminated, even retroactively, as in the entity may have to give $ back to HHS.

That's basically it. To reword, according to the Wall Street Journal:

[The rule] says hospitals, pharmacies and other entities that be charged with discrimination and lose federal funds if they pressure employees to take part in treatments to which they object on religious or moral grounds....

I'd been blogging only 1 month back in June 2005 when my headline on the Duggar family read, "14 children and pregnant again!"

Isn't that great?!

Thinking today about those PP gift certificates, it occurred to me that everyone is immediately connecting PP to abortion, which shows the brand has been damaged. I don't think people would have automatically thought "abortion" in conjunction with PP a couple of years ago.

Newsweek, November 14 (November 24 issue), theorized there will be an Obama baby boom 9 months from now (August 2009) due to celebratory sex in the wake of his victory.

That would be great, but I'll hazard a sad guess there'll also be an abortion boom in 2-3 months, given the world view of the majority of his supporters.

I reported in June that a pro-life pharmacy would be opening soon in Chantilly, VA.

Well, today's the big day. Reports Washington Times:

When Divine Mercy Care Pharmacy opens Tuesday... there will be no birth-control pills, condoms, cigarettes or pornographic magazines. There will, however, be booklets on natural family planning.

DMC Pharmacy is one of the country's few "pro-life pharmacies" that refuse to dispense contraceptives on moral and health grounds, arguing that they cause abortions, lead to promiscuity or endanger a woman's health.

"Birth control is not health care," said Robert Laird (pictured right), executive director of DMC, the Fairfax nonprofit that will own and operate the 1,500-square-foot store at 13945 Metrotech Dr. "We are catering to a special niche of people who like the pro-life message in their business."...

I've read of similar study results before. This is not new news, just more corroboration.

These studies indicate the birth control pill interferes with a woman's pheromonal sense of scent, attracting her to the wrong guy, in terms of both long-term compatibility as well as the stock of children they'll produce.

From The Times, August 13:

A study by British scientists suggests that taking the Pill can change a woman's taste in men - to those who are genetically less compatible.

The research found that the Pill can alter the type of male scent that women find most attractive, which may in turn affect the kind of men they choose as partners. It suggests that the popular form of contraception... could have implications for fertility and relationship breakdowns....

The Pill is thought to disrupt an instinctive mechanism that brings together people with complementary genes and immune systems. Such a couple, by passing on a wide-ranging set of immune system genes, increase their chances of having a healthy child that is not vulnerable to infection....

I smelled a rat when I read Matthew Balan's NewsBusters.com story....

Here's the shocking opening line in this August 9 Crain's New York Business article:

In most of the United States, 24 abortions are carried out for every 100 live births. In New York, 72 abortions occur for every 100 live births.

This is the same New York that rejected federal abstinence funding last year as well as conducted a campaign to distribute 26 million condoms FREE. Workers even handed them out at subway stations.

This is the same New York that offers free taxpayer-funded abortions to poor women and boasts 56 taxpayer-funded programs to distribute contraceptives free or cheap, according to the Crain's piece.

NY touts everything liberals say must be done to curb abortion. The answer to the increasing problem, according to the article?...

One chapter in Iain Murray's recently released book, The really inconvenient truths: seven environmental catastrophes Liberals don't want you to know about - because they helped cause them, is "The pill as pollutant: and other environmental menaces the Left ignores."

But on July 7, Fiorina exposed herself as either a political airhead or saboteur by handing pro-aborts a wider opening to attack McCain than they could possibly have fantasized....

Since early this year, NARAL has been sounding the alarm that its polling showed independents and pro-abortion Republicans have taken McCain's "maverick" reputation to mean he bucks his party's platform and is pro-abortion.

But recently, pro-abortion groups have adopted the deceptive strategy of portraying McCain as anti-contraception.

Apparently, their follow-up polls showed McCain's simply being anti-abortion has not raised the dander of targeted voters, particularly in light of mounting evidence that Barack Obama is an abortion extremist....

So Fiorina could not have played more perfectly into pro-abort hands.

On July 10, a reporter asked McCain about Fiorina's mother of all verbal gifts to pro-aborts.

On July 17 Bill O'Reilly took on "the Planned Parenthood fanatics" for an ad they are running against John McCain for his votes against forcing insurance companies to fund contraceptives, even if Catholic, for instance, and in violation of their beliefs.

I was glad O'Reilly took the position he did but winced at his rationale, which was a bit ill-informed (stating this was a taxpayer funding issue) and I thought sexist....

I've said before the UK press is much more willing to report and evaluate abortion honestly.

Yesterday's Daily Mail had this story: "Emotional toll: A young mother tells of the devastating legacy of having seven abortions."

You would never see such a story in the US MSM, even though such stories abound. This article spotlights that the American press is sabotaging an entire segment of the conversation about abortion.

As you read the story makes points studies repeatedly demonstrate but liberals repeatedly shun or deny...

Recall Gloucester Mayor Carolyn Kirk's June 23 press conference, when, according to USA Today:

The city's mayor said Monday there is no evidence a group of young girls made a pact to get pregnant and raise their babies together, seeking to dispel an explosive theory put forth by the high school principal....

USA Today questions today whether there was a pregnancy pact at Gloucester High School in MA that resulted in at least 8 of 18 girls all under the age of 16 - likely Freshmen - getting pregnant simultaneously on purpose.

Whether or not there was a pact, which the Time reporter who originally wrote the story stands by, the question remains, as Ray Lamont, editor of the Gloucester Daily Times, told USA Today: "'Pact' or not, these kids thought it would be cool to be moms together. Where did they get that idea?"

The standout line in the article was:

"This is not a story about sex education," says Sarah Brown of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy. "This is a story about a failure to take childbirth seriously. These girls could have had condoms distributed in their living rooms, and they still would have gotten pregnant."

Of course it's not a story about sex education, because only comprehensive sex ed is taught in MA public schools.

The governor last year went so far as to reject federal abstinence funding, which PP of MA gleefully reported:

Had this been a school system that taught abstinence sex ed only, you'd best believe that point would already be central to the story.

Why is no MSM outlet researching Gloucester's sex ed program? Could it be because PP and the comprehensive sex ed crowd are in the thick of it? Could it be this drama starkly highlights the difference between abstinence and comprehensive sex ed teaching?

Compared to abstinence education, comprehensive sex ed is values free, except perhaps to teach the "value" of how to avoid getting pregnant when having the sex it promotes.

Abstinence education focuses on self- and other-respect. It focuses on goals and dreams that having premature sex can stop. All this was abysmally lacking in the sex ed provided these girls.

Gloucester High School in MA has "sex ed classes that end freshman year," according to Time. (When do they begin?)

Now it has been learned that several female students entered into a pregnancy pact. When? According to the Boston Globe:

A large number of the pregnancies are among younger students, [local hospital official Cindy] Donaldson said.

"It's very sad," she said. "A good portion of them are sophomores."

and, according to Time...

The Washington Post has an encouraging - albeit biased - story today on the developing phenomenon of pro-life pharmacies:

When DMC Pharmacy opens this summer... in Chantilly [VA], the shelves will be stocked with allergy remedies, pain relievers, antiseptic ointments and almost everything else sold in any drugstore. But anyone who wants condoms, birth control pills or the Plan B emergency contraceptive will be turned away.

That's because the drugstore... will be a "pro-life pharmacy" - meaning, among other things, that it will eschew all contraceptives.

The pharmacy is one of a small but growing number of drugstores around the country that have become the latest front in a conflict pitting patients' rights against those of health-care workers who assert a "right of conscience" to refuse to provide care or products that they find objectionable....

Following my column, "June 7: The Pill Kills Day," I received emails expressing similar thoughts from good pro-life friends like this:

[B]efore going along with American Life League's campaign against birth control pills, your blog (and column) should do more than merely read off the FDA's label regarding birth control pills and leave it as if the FDA's label is gospel truth.

The FDA label says the same thing about emergency contraception and recent study after recent study is showing how unlikely it is that EC has a post-conception effect.

There are numerous scientific studies on this issue and not one of them (at least that I've read) has conclusively proven that birth control pills prevent the implantation of conceived embryos....

June 7, 1965, was an important day in American history.

On that day, the U.S. Supreme Court found a "right to privacy" in the Constitution in its Griswold v. Connecticut decision, which allowed Planned Parenthood operator Estelle Griswold to sell birth control pills
legally that she had been selling illegally.

Griswold was cited eight years later in the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision.

But I digress. Well, maybe not.

I reported May 20 that Congressional Democrats were trying to sink a birth control pill subsidy into the War Supplemental Appropriations bill.

Here's the latest, from CQ Politics, today:

A proposal that would restore government subsidies for birth control pills and devices at university health clinics and Planned Parenthood centers was retained in the Senate version of the war supplemental spending bill sent to the House on Thursday....

We have just learned Congressional Democrat leaders are trying to reinstate taxpayer subsidies of college birth control pills through the War Supplemental Appropriations bill, being debated in the Senate as I type.

Thus, our armed services will not be fighting only against terrorism but also to ensure frat boys and sorority sisters get cheap bc and their college "family planning" clinics get larger profits....

On May 8 Public Citizen, a group founded by Ralph Nader, filed a petition with the FDA to ban Johnson & Johnson's Ortho-Evra birth control patch. It stated:

Compared to standard 35 microgram estrogen/progestin oral contraceptives, Ortho-Evra results in:

60% more estrogen on average exposure;

greater variability in estrogen levels;

a possible two-fold increased risk of venous thrombosis (typically, painful blood clots of the leg which can travel to the lungs and cause death);

increased risk of side effects such as breast discomfort, severe menstrual pain, nausea, and vomiting;

a 50% increased likelihood of [contraceptive] discontinuation;

no improvement in contraceptive outcomes.

According to PC's press release...

"Pills or dinner?" was the subject heading of Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards' email alert yesterday.

The premise is ridiculous: that due to rising prices of artificial female steroids, i.e., birth control pills, college nyphomaniacs are being forced to choose between illicit sex and eating.

Here's what happened. Legislators passed the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 to save $40 billion over 5 years. A consequence, according to U.S. News & World Report:

A quirk in a new federal law, designed to save taxpayers money on Medicaid reimbursements for drugs, has effectively persuaded pharmaceutical companies to stop selling their products to these [university] pharmacies at deeply discounted rates. (If companies continue to offer such discounts, the law stipulates, they will also receive lower payments from Medicaid.)

Shock: the government isn't buying the whining. In response to one request to restore the loophole, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid wrote, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette...

Every now and then there is clarity on the Left.

Feminists hyperprotect contraceptives from adverse publicity, since they supposedly equalize the sex-playing field. They're also a huge money maker.

We on the Right are called Neanderthals for pointing out hormonal contraceptives in particular are dangerous to women, infusing small or large amounts of artificial female steroids into a woman's body on a daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, and decades-long basis. With no more information than that, red flags should be raised. But feminists bat them down.

Now comes an April 14 New York Times editorial calling for harmed women to have the freedom to sue the manufacturer of the dangerous Ortho Evra bc patch...

A unique fashion show was held at the University of South Carolina March 5.

Project Condom, sponsored by Sexual Health Awareness and Rape Education and Development for Sexual Health and Violence Prevention, "was designed to promote awareness and break social stigmas surrounding sexual practices," according to the student newspaper The Daily Gamecock.

Models wore designs made completely of condoms. Students were "excited," noted TDG.

Oh, "[a]n abstinence garment was also featured," as well as "commercials relaying sexual health statistics and promoting abstinence."

Right. I'm sure the abstinence message gave students a pregant pause for reflection. I'm sure it wasn't meant as a p.s. or a cover for Mom and Dad.

What's wrong with that ad?

According to a Pro-Life Wisconsin press release...

This Daily Mail story actually predates by almost 2 weeks the AP story I posted March 10 on sex hormones infiltrating the water supply with dastardly consequences. But I just discovered it. Obviously, the 2 are related:

... Scientists at Cardiff University have discovered that the brains of male starlings foraging for worms at a sewage treatment works in South-West England have been subtly changed by being contaminated by oestrogen from the contraceptive pill and hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

The female hormones - present in women's urine, and passing through the sewage treatment unaffected - caused the part of the brain that controls their song to grow much bigger, causing them to sing at greater length and with even more virtuosity than usual.

The study confirms similar, if slightly differing, research on other birds, which scientists say is adding up to some of the first concrete proof of the effects of gender benders on the natural world....

The Associated Press reported today:

A vast array of pharmaceuticals - including antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones - have been found in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans, an Associated Press investigation shows....

In the course of a five-month inquiry, the AP discovered that drugs have been detected in the drinking water supplies of 24 major metropolitan areas - from Southern California to Northern New Jersey, from Detroit to Louisville....

The AP would like have found more but reported only 28 of 62 of those major metropolitan areas even test their water. Of 52 small water plants the AP contacted - at least 1 in each state - 51 reported not testing and 1 refused to respond.

An unnamed "sex hormone" was noted in San Francisco drinking water as well as other unnamed "hormones," according to the AP, along with "synthetic hormones from birth control pills," according to the Washington Post....

Later today UCLA campus pro-lifers will release the winter issue of their student newspaper, The Advocate. It will be a blockbuster.

Readers may recall Lila Rose, who spearheads The Advocate. Last spring The Advocate broke the story and released video secretly filmed inside CA Planned Parenthoods showing PPs would have helped Lila, posing as a 15-year-old girl statutorily raped by her 23-year-old boyfriend, sidestep laws and abort. Lila even appeared on The O'Reilly Factor, and PP threatened to sue.

Well, hold on, because this issue of The Advocate will knell PP another - perhaps worse - body blow. When Lila lifts the embargo I will post.

Britain's public health minister Dawn Primarolo announced a new teen anti-pregnancy campaign February 6 that will in part fund "long-acting reversible contraceptives," according to the Daily Mail. The options will be, according to DM:

Progesterone injection, effective up to 3 months Intrauterine device (IUD), effective 5+ years Progesterone implant, effective to 3 years Intrauterine system (IUS), effective 5 years

For those unfamiliar with the IUS, it's a cylinder implanted in the uterus containing timed-release progesterone.

Noted UK feminist Fay Weldon thinks this is a good idea. Writing in the DM February 15:

Planned Parenthood of Arizona is issuing discounts for their services, according to an article at The Wildcat Online.

A coupon for $10.00 off of any purchase $25.00 or more is being issued in the Spring 2008 coupon bonanza, to any new patients.

I'm assuming this coupon includes abortion services, something which Planned Parenthood supposedly wants to be "safe, legal, and rare", as it does not exclude it from the coupon.

Have you noticed that sexual freedom advocates, some on this site, are recommending two forms of "protection" these days, such as hormonal contraceptives with a condom back-up? It's no wonder. It's not just pregnancy one has to worry about.

Last week the King Middle School board in Portland, ME, made national news for voting to offer hormonal contraceptive pills or patches to girls ages 11-13 without parental knowledge or consent.

This was because, according to a quote from NPR:

Five of the 134 students who visited King's health center during the 2006-07 school year admit to having had sex, according to Amanda Rowe, lead nurse in the city's school health centers.

Those five students were potential sex abuse victims. ME law, according to a Department of Health and Human Services document....

On Monday the Supreme Court declined to consider the appeal of a lower court ruling uphodling a 2002 New York state law forcing some religious employers to cover contraceptives in their health insurance drug plans, which violated their religious beliefs.

A strange article in yesterday's Wall Street Journal put negative spin on one unintended consequence of the Deficit Reduction Act, signed into law last year by President Bush: birth control pill usage.

Because of it, big pharma has had to raise prices of name brand birth control pills, which it previously sold to college "health centers" at a cut rate (which they then sold to students with a mark-up as a little money maker).

Now, "college students are making some tough choices, such as switching to cheaper generic brands...."

Since when is the chance to buy generic brands "tough"?

No, such a move could cause intelligent college women to falter, according to the article....

A study in the Feb. 23, 2007, issue of Fertility and Sterility, publicized only this week by NRFC, found that emergency contraceptives comprised of the steroid Levonorgestrel, like Plan B, can cause abortions. (The "delay" the study refers to is length of time following sex the morning-after pill is taken.)

Result(s): With disruption of ovulation alone, the potential effectiveness of levonorgestrel EC ranged from 49% (no delay) to 8% (72-hour delay). With complete inhibition of fertilization before the day of ovulation, the potential effectiveness of levonorgestrel EC ranged from 90% (no delay) to 16% (72-hour delay).

Conclusion(s): The gap between effectiveness of levonorgestrel EC estimated from clinical studies and what can be attributed to disruption of ovulation may be explained by overestimation of actual effectiveness and supplementary mechanisms of action, including postfertilization effects.

On April 17, Scientific American reported that a study of fish caught in east coast rivers showed they "may... be carrying enough chemicals that mimic the female hormone estrogen to cause breast cancer cells to grow."

The fish are getting estrogen from us. Researchers suggested birth control and female hormone replacement pills going into the sewer and then into our waters are at least partly to blame.

Then the fish are giving it back. One-fourth of the catfish and one-third of the white bass tested caused breast cancer cells to grow.

In 2005 the World Health Organization reclassified estrogen-progesterone birth-control pills as Group I, highly carcinogenic to breasts.

The federal government announced five years ago estrogen is a "known carcinogen" of breast tissue.

At any rate, this study showed that humans may cause fishes to cause humans to sleep with the fishes.

Planned Parenthood Condom TV Ad Mocks Religion, Angels

SAN FRANCISCO, April 17, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) -

Planned Parenthood Golden Gate (PPGG) has just released a "Safe is Sexy" television ad that features a young couple being interrupted from having unprotected sex by their Guardian Angels. The ad can be seen here:

The thirty second spot features a hip, young couple that is saved from engaging in unprotected sex by divine intervention. The ad is aimed at youth ages 18-24 and will air throughout the next ten weeks on MTV, VH1 and FX. Said the Planned Parenthood chaplain....

Yesterday, blogger Sex in the Public Square complained about this quote in a March 30 Time magazine article about the abortion industry's marketing advances in Latin America:

... Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, a socialist, late last year sanctioned the free distribution of abortion-inducing "morning-after" contraception pills at government-run hospitals.

Groused SitPS:

This is a major problem. Not only is it inaccurate, but to describe emergency contraception as an abortion-inducing pill is to greatly reduce its chances of acceptance by people who oppose abortion, and increase the stigma attached to its use.

I, too, am shocked Time used the a-word to explain how the morning-after pills works, certainly due to a momentary lapse of honesty.

And SitPS is right that if women knew hormonal contraception caused abortions, many would reject it. But SitPS is wrong to purport it does not. I'll cut her slack, though. She is likely ignorant through no fault of her own but because her liberal mentors seek to keep all women barefoot and barren on that point....

I gotta start by saying I love that little flying carefree chick in the Ortho Evra birth control patch logo.

Just looking at it brings me peace, so much peace, I could barely raise an eyebrow when reading the Media Post April 5 article that Johnson & Johnson has been buying domain names in a preemptive strike against the creation of websites that might draw negative attention to Ortho Evra. I might wonder why did I not have my peaceful head in the sand. According to MP....

This is interesting in many areas, including the topics of twins, hermaphrodites, and nuances (mistakes?) of conception. An excerpt from a Nature.com article, published March 26, reads:

Researchers have discovered a pair of twins who are identical through their mother's side, but share only half their genes on their father's side.

The 'semi-identical' twins are the result of two sperm cells fusing with a single egg - a previously unreported way for twins to come about, say the team that made the finding. The twins are chimaeras, meaning that their cells are not genetically uniform. Each sperm has contributed genes to each child....

I'm not Catholic and was still incensed by Sean Hannity's treatment of a highly respected pro-life leader - who is also a priest - as well as Hannity's low blows and talking points, which could have just as easily been spouted by a secular liberal.

In a recent column, I connected the morning-after pill controversy with the larger issue of contraception. Basically, pro-lifers can't oppose the MAP without opposing birth control pills, since they contain the same ingredients (female hormones) and, therefore, may both cause abortions - stop an embryo from implanting in the uterus.

Pro-aborts have honed in on this and are using the contraceptive issue as a wedge to separate the public from pro-lifers and pro-lifers from each other, since abortion is no longer the wedge issue it once was with anyone.

I am a Protestant who opposes contraception, not only because some of its forms may cause abortions, but also - moreso - because the thinking behind contraception makes it the forerunner to abortion.

I base my thinking on several Biblical concepts. The foremost concept is that God is always described in Scripture as the sole procreative decision-maker. To my knowledge, every incident in Scripture describing pregnancy or barrenness gives God complete credit.

If that premise is true, who has the right to say no to God? Who can say they have a better grip on timing than God?

Pro-aborts are right. Contraception is next issue after abortion. And pro-lifers must work it through.
