Pro-life videos special on Planned Parenthood baby parts scandal

Video-Planned-Parenthood-Doctor-Admits-to-Selling-Aborted-Baby-Body-Parts

by Hans Johnson

We were shocked on July 14 by the blockbuster release of an undercover investigative video showing Planned Parenthood executive and abortionist Dr Deborah Nucatola blithely discussing the value of keeping a baby’s organs intact during a late-term abortion. It was like a new Grimm’s Fairy Tale: “The better to harvest from you”!

Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL) movingly spoke for many as the news broke on the floor of the House:

At a weekly press briefing July 16, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said he’d instructed committees to investigate, but added he’d “vomit” if he had to talk specifically about the contents of the video:

And Senator James Lankford (R-OK) was moved to tears when describing Planned Parenthood’s grisly practice of harvesting baby parts (especially from 4:15 on):

The mainstream media was much slower to react, waiting for PP talking points to be issued, then focusing on the edited production values of the video (the norm for almost all news video) and ignoring the unedited version released at the same time.

As far as television goes, only July 15’s Fox News Special Report with Bret Baier was there a substantive report by Shannon Bream.

Bill O’Reilly followed up with an interview with David Daleiden of the Center for Medical Progress about the investigation:

Then, Megyn Kelly oversaw a fiery debate between radio host Dana Loesch and Democratic advisor Robert Zimmerman:

And finally, on July 16, CBS News ran a fair, in-depth story, including a bombshell that “up to a dozen additional videos of top officials from Planned Parenthoods from across the country, which he’s gonna be releasing in the days and weeks to come”:

Pro-life vid of the day: Facing the truth about abortion

A parting note from Hans:

I have always been pro-life. At least since I learned where babies come from, whenever that was. I believe I heard of Jill’s moving experience as a nurse cradling a baby left to die even before her appearance with Bill O’Reilly. I eventually stumbled upon this blog and sparred with other commenters and, I’d like to think, made friends, especially with xalisae and Deluded Lib Pro-Lifer (thanks for making me write that).

I was surprised and honored three years ago to be asked to help out with the Pro-life Videos of the Day. I thank Kelli for coaching me through the process of posting, and for being such a terrific editor. I certainly needed one. I also thank LauraLoo for her input and support, and most especially Jill. I know she will continue to have a great impact on the pro-life movement in her new leading role.

I will continue to do my little part as well. Thanks to you all.

Your friend in the Fight for Life,

Hans

In its ongoing Killers Among Us project, Created Equal alerts communities to the abortions occurring right in their own neighborhoods, using postcards and the Truth Truck billboard display (photo right). Currently they are exposing the contract between the  Wright State Physicians (WSP) group and  Martin Haskell’s Women’s Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio.

Haskell, infamous for  popularizing partial birth abortion (banned since 2003) and inspiring Kermit Gosnell’s deadly technique, would have to close the doors of his clinic  were it not for the support given by the WSP. A variance to their transfer agreement covers his ability to continue killing (younger) pre-born babies.

As always with telling hard truths, there are some in these communities who direct their anger at the messenger instead of at the perpetrator. Says Mark Harrington, National Director of Created Equal: “Residents ought to be more concerned about the children being killed down the road at this Kettering abortion facility than they are their children seeing abortion. Outrage ought to be directed at those perpetrating the crime, not the ones trying to end it.”

Pro-life vid of the day: The womb is a preborn’s castle

It’s summer, so what better time to make a sandcastle? Well, you’ll feel quite inadequate at this activity if you attend the Hampton Beach Sand Sculpture Competition. In the midst of the short rocky shoreline of New Hampshire is this very short stretch of beach, attracting artists from around the world.

This year’s winner was Karen Fralich of Ontario, Canada, with the sculpture “Life”, in honor of a friend who became a father.

Pro-life vid of the day: The hidden every-day atrocities

by Hans Johnson

Once again the nation has been rocked by an unspeakable human atrocity. A young man too cowardly to face off with the criminals he was supposedly angry with, instead murdered nine innocent churchgoers in Charleston, South Carolina, last week.

Recently students from the Immaculate Heart of Mary School (in association with Saint John the Baptist – Prolife League) in Falls River, Massachusetts, made a video drawing a parallel between the Boston Marathon bombing and the hidden atrocities performed behind the doors of a Planned Parenthood. They also noted that sidewalk counselors are in a way like the noble first responders who come to the aid of the more public victims.

Pro-life video of the day: The virtues of being a dad

by Hans Johnson

This Sunday is Father’s Day, when we reflect with gratitude on the men in our lives who have helped to hand off our children to the next, hopefully better generation. Senator Tom Cotton (R) returned from military service to run for office and serve Arkansas. But his most important service is in raising his newborn son Gabriel (photo, right, from a recent townhall meeting).

The highs, lows, and downright comical aspects of fatherhood (see videos here and here) are the subject of the new bestseller The Dadly Virtues: Adventures From the Worst Job You’ll Ever Love. This collection of essays was discussed by editor Jonathan Last and some of the contributors – all engaging conservative and libertarian writers – on this AEI panel:

Pro-life vid of the day: Motherhood – both real and enchanting

by Hans Johnson

Artist Rebecca Roher was already curious about her friend’s pregnancy, so when Guts, a Canadian online feminist magazine, asked her to do a comic strip on that very subject, she interviewed her through back and forth emails. The result was Mom Body, a frank detailing of her friend’s recent experience having a baby. [WARNING: It ends with one totally unnecessary profanity.]

The rest of the special edition in which the strip appears show’s an amusing “arm’s length” anthropological look at pregnancy and motherhood, but the strip itself has several undeniable truisms:

Every single human life is the result of a woman’s incredible transformation and sacrifice.

The desire to have a child is abstract[;] when you’re pregnant, it’s happening.

It’s all a very real experience for the women who go through it, while the men may prefer to remember it as a magical time. They can certainly agree that the result is enchanting:

Pro-life vid of the day: “There’s a great future for them”

by Hans Johnson

CHOHDpFWkAAH7eH.jpg.pagespeed.ce.A5Rf8xCrPySome new non-invasive tests for mother and in-utero child have a “search and prepare” mindset behind them. But last week a Swiss company called Genoma displayed a large ad in Spain (pictured right) for a blood test with the Orwellian name “Tranquility.” Hardly masking its “search and destroy” intent in a country that just rejected abortion restrictions, it was nothing short of creepy. And it was also used without the permission of the little girl’s parents.

For an example of a truly life-affirming ad campaign, there is Stillwater, Minnesota’s little two-year-old Izzy Bradley, who appeared in a Target ad after the company contacted the Down Syndrome Diagnosis Network, searching for children with Ds who would be willing to model. As reported by WCCO:

Heather Bradley described her daughter. “She is completely fun. She has lots of energy. She’s sweet. She loves her big sisters. Wants to be just like them,” she said….

Izzy’s mother is the head of the local chapter of the Down Syndrome Diagnosis Network, a group that offers advice and support to families.

“I really appreciate Target’s policy of including them in their ads. I think it really normalizes Down syndrome and helps people to see we’re really just like any other family,” she said…. “I’m really surprised at how much excitement has come from it. I’ve had people share it so many times. On Facebook, one site it’s got up to half a million likes…. I really just hope that if a new mom, or an expectant mom, were to see a little girl in an ad that they would just have that sense of hope for their child, and that they would know really there’s a great future for them,” she said.

Pro-life vid of the day: Frozen ovary restores woman’s fertility

by Hans Johnson

A young Congolese immigrant to Belgium was diagnosed with sickle-cell anemia, and when at age 13 a bone-marrow transplant was in order, another procedure was done. Too often chemotherapy can damage or destroy future fertility, so one of her ovaries was removed and frozen.

Now recovered a decade later, she asked for doctors to use the ovary to repair her fertility, so strands of the tissue were spliced on to the remaining non-functioning ovary. The “jump start” worked, and she is the first to give birth after having an ovary frozen in childhood:
