Clinics in Englewood, Hackensack, Garfield, Paterson, Passaic and Pompton Lakes will be affected if the cuts are implemented.
2 PP chapters with a total of 16 clinics in northern NJ face the loss of a combined $2.4 million, and the North Hudson Community Action Corp., with 8 sites providing family planning, will lose $550k.
PP's clinics in Englewood and Hackensack could face closure or cutbacks. "I've got 2 centers in 1 county," said Triste Brooks, head of PP of Greater Northern NJ. "Can I make do with 1?"
In challenging the 14-week clause as unconstitutional, the Popular Party cited a 1985 ruling from the Constitutional Court that said a woman's rights could not automatically take precedence over those of an unborn child, but rather only in cases of rape, fetal malformation or when the mother's health is in jeopardy.
To establish a period for unrestricted abortion "violates the balance between the rights of the mother and the rights of the unborn," Popular Party lawmaker Sandra Moneo said.
"Despite the incendiary nature of abortion, we cannot say that the isolated comment with respect to DeHenre being an abortionist was so irreparably prejudicial as to warrant a mistrial," the court said in its written opinion.

I hope Christie uses his veto. Of course, I love the last PP quote from the (highly sympathetic) newspaper article:
"What are the men of this state going to do when they realize the women can't get birth control?" asked Brooks, of the Greater Northern New Jersey Planned Parenthood. "Are we supposed to tell the adults of this state, 'Just say no?' "
OOOHHHH THE HORRORS!!!! ADULTS HAVING TO BE ADULTS!!!! Well Brooksie, the men will either have to find their own latex contraptions or pony up for their partner's pills. Or, they could, you know, just say "no!".Posted by: Michael at July 2, 2010 1:41 PM
I missed that last quote. Those who can't bear to abstain for a week a month could use the time to learn about and practice Natural Family Planning. It costs almost nothing, except for the purchase of a basal thermometer and less than five minutes each day.
Or they will use self restraint/self control and actually show affection to the women w/o physical sexual contact. Perhaps take their significant others to a nice dinner or a movie or maybe a play. Perhaps stop using a woman for sex and get to KNOW HER in OTHER ways (non sexual).Posted by: LizFromNebraska at July 3, 2010 11:01 AM
