Planned Parenthood lawyer Daniel J. Buckley denied that the medical provider shirks its responsibility to inform authorities of abuse.
Yeah, too bad Students for Life of America has some rather convincing evidence that PP employees fail to report statutory rape when they are aware of it.
"This decision has huge implications for the university.... This decision has huge implications for the state," Taubman said, adding that 8,000 jobs would be created instantly if the ballot proposal is passed.
MI has some of the most stringent stem cell research laws in the country, with scientists using new human embryos for research facing a $10 million fine and up to 10 years in prison.
8,000 jobs instantly created because researchers at the University of Michigan can kill human embryos instead of merely importing stem cell lines? Only a complete idiot would believe that. The
ridiculous "economics" study funded by proponents of killing embryos only estimated something like 400 biotech jobs and 300 additional jobs.
Also, the $10 million fine and 10 years in jail is the maximum punishment for human cloning not killing human embryos for research. The Detroit News and Free Press constantly get this wrong because they're just parroting a talking point of proponents of killing human embryos for research and haven't ever actually taken the time to read MI's law.
If Schafer is correct, as I imagine, what is your end-game plan?

"Since public opinion polls now show an increased acceptance of abortion (at least in the first trimester or in cases of rape or threats to the mother's health), few states are likely to adopt an outright ban if the courts allowed them to do so. Nor are any bans likely to be enforced by the imprisonment of physicians or their patients, as partisans of Roe v. Wade have warned."
I just saw this video. Apparently Obama won't be voting for himself. He's just too inexperienced and it would be wrong to run for president because that would mean he wasn't doing his job as senator...something he just isn't comfortable with.Posted by: mk at October 8, 2008 3:07 PM
Just some quickie observations from the debate last night...
Barack wants to tax the rich to help the poor...
95% of Americans would get a tax break.
Well, I got news for you. 45% of that 95% DON'T PAY TAXES! So instead, they will simply get a check.
The top 20% of Americans (the richest) NOW pay 67% of the taxes in this country. Read that again...67% of the taxes...ALL taxes...income, business, etc.
The top 1% pay 26% of the taxes!
How much more did you want to take from the rich to pay off the 45% that don't pay ANY taxes?
Obama claims, yet again, that he came from humble beginnings. I wish I had come from such humble beginnings.
His Grandmother, the woman who raised him, was the VICE PRESIDENT OF THE BANK OF HAWAII.
If the vice president of the bank of Hawaii had to rely on her daughters food stamps to put food on the table, then I guess the banking crisis happened back in 1960...hmmmmmm...
He also says, over and over, that he wants to bring our troops home from Iraq. Everyone is so busy clapping that they don't hear him say that he wants to bring them home from Iraq so that he can immediately turn around and send them to Afghanistan!
I just don't get it...Posted by: mk at October 8, 2008 3:17 PM

He also claimed that small businesses didn't make over $250,000.00 a year. What planet is he from?
Maybe lemonade stands don't, but seriously, what small business pulls in less than $250,000.00 a year???Posted by: mk at October 8, 2008 4:01 PM
mk, Good points. I don't understand how Obama can say he came from "humble beginnings" either. Then again, I don't understand most of what he says.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
On Embryonic Stem Cell Research:
I'd like to hear Bill Clinton's (or anyone's, for that matter) report of successful cures from embryonic stem cells. How many years have scientists been studying embryonic stem cells?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
As Jill said, the Economic study shows a conservative estimate of about 790 (biotech and other) jobs assuming a 1% increase in jobs in that sector. According to the study, a more generous estimate of a 5% increase in jobs would equal almost 4,000 jobs; HALF of the 8,000 jobs, reported by The Detroit News, that would be created "instantly" if the ballot proposal is passed.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Part of the MI law covers the sale of embryos.
333.2690 Sale, transfer, distribution, or giving away of embryo, fetus, or neonate.
A person shall not knowingly sell, transfer, distribute, or give away an embryo, fetus, or neonate for
a use which is in violation of sections 2685 to 2689.
[PUBLIC HEALTH CODE (EXCERPT) Act 368 of 1978]
So sales are legal. I wonder if transfer and distributionof embryos, etc. are also monetary transactions? Selling embryos doesn't sound ethical to me.

From a friend:
To All My Friends, This election has me very worried. So many things to consider. About a year ago I would have voted for Obama. I have changed my mind three times since then. I watch all the news channels, jumping from one to another. I must say this drives my husband crazy. But, I feel if you view MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News, you might get some middle ground to work with. About six months ago, I started thinking 'where did the money come from for Obama'. I have four daughters who went to College, and we were middle class, and money was tight. We (including my girls) worked hard and there were lots of student loans.
I started looking into Obama's life. Where does the money come from?
Around 1979 Obama started college at Occidental in California . He is very open about his two years at Occidental, he tri ed all kinds of drugs and was wasting his time but, even though he had a brilliant mind, did not apply himself to his studies. 'Barry' (that was the name he used all his life) during this time had two roommates, Muhammad Hasan Chandoo and Wahid Hamid, both from Pakistan . During the summer of 1981, after his second year in college, he made a 'round the world' trip. Stopping to see his mother in Indonesia , next Hyderabad in India , three weeks in Karachi , Pakistan where he stayed with his ro ommate's family, then off to Africa to visit his father's family. My question - Where did he get the money for this trip? Nether I, nor any one of my children would have had money for a trip like this when they where in college. When he came back he started school at Columbia University in New York . It is at this time he wants everyone to call him Barack - not Barry. Do you know what the tuition is at Columbia ? It's not cheap to say the least! Where did he get money for tuition? Student Loans? Maybe. After Columbia , he went to Chicago to work as a Community Organizer fo r $12,000 a year. Why Chicago ? Why not New York ? He was already living in New York
By 'chance' he met Antoin 'Tony' Rezko, born in Aleppo Syria , and a real estate developer in Chicago . Rezko has been convicted of fraud and bribery this year. Rezko, was named 'Entrepreneur of the Decade' by the Arab-American Business and Professional Association'. About two years later, Obama entered Harvard Law School . Do you have any idea what tuition is for Harvard Law School ? Where did he get the money for Law School ? More student loans? After Law school, he went back to Chicago . Rezko offered him a job, which he turned down. But, he did take a job with Davis, Miner, Barnhill &Galland. Guess what? They represented 'Rezar' which is Rezko's firm. Rezko was one of Obama's first major financial contributors when he ran for office in Chicago . In 2003, Rezko threw an early fundraiser for Obama which Chicago Tribune reporter David Mendelland claims was instrumental in providing Obama with 'seed money' for his U.S. Senate race. In 2005, Obama purchased a new home in Kenwoood District of Chicago for $1.65 million (less than asking price). With ALL 20 those Student Loans - Where did he get the money for the property? On the same day Rezko's wife, Rita, purchased the adjoining empty lot for full price. The London Times reported that Nadhmi Auchi, an Iraqi-born Billionaire loaned Rezko $3.5 million three weeks before Obama's new home was purchased. Obama met Nadhmi Auchi many times with Rezko.
Now, we have Obama running for President. Valerie Jarrett, was Michele Obama's boss. She is now Obama's chief advisor and he does not make any major decisions without talking to her first. Where was Jarrett born? Ready for this? Shiraz , Iran ! Do we see a pattern here? Or am I going crazy?
On May 10, 2008 The Times reported, Robert Malley, advisor to Obama, was 'sacked' after the press found out he was having regular contacts with 'Hamas', which controls Gaza and is connected with Iran . This past week, buried in the back part of the papers, Iraqi newspapers reported that during Obama's visit to Iraq, he asked their leaders to do nothing about the war until after he is elected, and he will 'Take care of things'.
Oh, and by the way, remember the college roommates that where born in Pakistan ? They are in charge of all those 'small' Internet campaign contributions for Obama. Where is that money coming from? The poor and middle class in this country? Or could it be from the Middle East ?
And the final bit of news. On September 7, 2008, The Washington Times posted a verbal slip that was made on 'This Week' with George Stephanapoulos. Obama on talking about his religion said, 'My Muslim faith'. When questioned, 'he made a mistake'. Some mistake!
All of the above information I got on-line. If you would like to check it - Wikipedia, encyclopedia, Barack Obama; Tony Rezko; Valerie Jarrett: Daily Times - Obama visited Pakistan in 1981; The Washington Times - September 7, 2008; The Times May 10, 2008.
Now the BIG question - If I found out all this information on my own, Why haven't all of our 'intelligent' members of the press been reporting this?
A phrase that keeps ringing in my ear - 'Beware of the enemy from within'!!!
Oh, this is lovely...
For the record, I did NOT want the bailout.Posted by: mk at October 8, 2008 6:00 PM
I wonder if you can get a wax and a massage in maximum security.
Actually, now that I think about it, we'd be footing that bill too.

Is this the same information as on your "secret tape" or is that October Surprise still coming?Posted by: PPC at October 8, 2008 6:40 PM
I have to say I am a bit surprised that in three debates the abortion issue has not come up once.
Of course, the Communist News Network and other "mainstream media" are doing everything they can to portray Nobama as a moderate. Nobama has all but been annointed by the talking heads as the next President.
I quit listening to Wolf Blitzer from the Communist News Network when he talked about McCain having "lost" as though the election was already over.
So it's probably safe to assume the abortion debate will not come up in the last debate, because I do believe if Americans really knew Nobama's voting record and how he even voted against BAIP most would be appalled. And I am quite certain McCain would mention it. But he cant if the subject does not come up.
Shame on these talking heads who are throwing their integrity away all in the name of getting Nobama elected.Posted by: Joanne at October 8, 2008 7:26 PM
More possible voter fraud! First Nevada, now Missouri. Interesting how this is coming up in the battleground states, and of course it involves ACORN.
And who exactly has ties to ACORN?
It's that one! Good way for McCain to describe Nobama.Posted by: Joanne at October 8, 2008 7:38 PM
You're exactly right. The MSM is trying to hide Obama's abysmal abortion record.
..and that Town-Hall debate last night was suppose to be a Town-Hall debate, not questions picked by Tom Brokaw.
More Voter Registration Shenanigans: Indianapolis Has 105% Of Its Population Registered To Vote!!!!
According to STATSIndiana, In 2007, Indianapolis/Marion County had an estimated population of 876,804. Of that number 232,607 were below 18 years of age, for a total of 644,197 people in Marion County/Indianapolis 18 or over and thus eligible to vote. (Indiana allows felons to vote as long as they are not incarcerated).
So we have 644,197 people eligible to be registered in Marion County/Indianapolis, and 677,401 people registered. Congratulations go to Indianapolis for having 105% of its residents registered!
Across the nation voter registration irregularities are coming to light. Many of these irregularities involving the former employer, ACORN, of one of our Presidential candidates, Barack Obama. Now it comes to light that Obama’s campaign has paid ACORN over $800,000 for “get out the vote” efforts so far this campaign season.Posted by: Jasper at October 8, 2008 7:40 PM
As I said, interesting that this is happening in the battleground states. No wonder Nobama's campaiagn has been saying they could win Indiana, Missouri, Nevada etc! There probably wont be stories of this fraud in Utah or California.... nope just states believed to be close.
But forget about seeing any of this on TV, with the possible exception of Fox, although Fox's audience is almost all Republican anyway.
I predict there wont be a word said on MSNBC or Communist News Network.Posted by: Joanne at October 8, 2008 7:49 PM

From what I gathered from the article, Dr. Reyes stated that the conclusions of the research were not altered by the digital images in question, and that the research has been reproduced successfully by other scientists.
There are definite advancements being made with adult stem cells as opposed to embryonic stem cells.Posted by: Eileen #2 at October 8, 2008 8:28 PM
"It's that one! Good way for McCain to describe Nobama."
Really? I found it incredibly distasteful.Posted by: prettyinpink at October 8, 2008 8:30 PM
As a scientist, do you believe in killing human embryos for research?Posted by: Jasper at October 8, 2008 8:31 PM
Voter fraud occurs because some people are stupid and the low-level employees hired to register people are expected to register a certain amount of people per day. It is very easy for people to simply write down names and go to lunch. But luckily, ACORN has people who do the check in their office, and then they submit them to the election board, who catches anything they miss. Those that commit fraud are obviously fired and turned in. Stuff like this happens in every organization doing the same things- ACORN is just easy to target because Obama used to work for them.Posted by: prettyinpink at October 8, 2008 8:38 PM
@Jasper: I prefer they mess with mouse embryonic stem cells first until they are absolutely certain that embryonic stem cells hold the promise they think they do. Once that is shown- I will have no problem with it if they were to use leftover embryos from IVF clinics.
Of course- I also fully support all the research possible on adult stem cells (human ones) as well.Posted by: Rae at October 8, 2008 8:38 PM
I should correct- it's voter registration fraud. It's not the same kind of animal that typical voter fraud is.Posted by: prettyinpink at October 8, 2008 8:57 PM

Way to go, HisMan--terrific research! It seems the more we come up with in terms of Obama's past (and present) associations and his questionable judgment, the more Obama supporters are left grasping for anything that can change the subject.
Case in point: Obama's association with Ayers. The MSM and other Obama supporters want to criticize even the mention of it, suggesting among other things "racial" motives. How dare anyone question these things! The annointed one is beyond reproach!
By comparison, imagine the howls of indignation if it was revealed that McCain and/or Palin were buddies with an unrepentant abortion clinic bomber. Keith Olbermann and Katie Couric would probably have to be resuscitated by paramedics. Or what if it were the repubs who were cozy with ACORN and were their primary beneficiaries? Would our friends here be as understanding and dismisssive of the whole affair if this were the case? Of course not.Posted by: Jerry at October 8, 2008 9:27 PM

Barack Obama’s religious beliefs are not a good reason to vote against him, but failure to be honest about them is. Why can’t he tell us the truth? His mother was raised by non-practicing Christians; his father was raised a Muslim, but was an atheist by the time he had married Obama's mother. Obama's step-father was also Muslim, but of an eclectic kind who could make room for animist and Hindu beliefs. The Left apparently felt that Mitt Romney’s religious beliefs were a legitimate issue in the campaign. Why the double standard when it comes to Obama? http://atheism.about.com/od/barackobamareligionfaith/tp/BarackObamaReligionSecularism.htm

Tony Rezko is a convicted criminal and long time friend and fund-raiser for Obama. Rezko was indicted last fall on federal charges that accuse him of demanding kickbacks from companies seeking state business. Obama claimed Rezko donated only $50,000 to him. Later, under pressure, he revealed Rezko raised more than twice that amount and also sat on his fundraising committee. Barack Obama’s Policies Would Hurt the Economy
Obama’s tax policy that would take the nation back to the effective marginal tax rates of the Carter days. He has called for increases in payroll, capital gains, dividends and death taxes. He claims to only want to raise taxes on the wealthy, but this could have a devastating effect on new investment and small businesses: http://www.wsj.com/public/article_print/SB121391937825890363.html
Obama would increase government spending by possibly one trillion dollars in four years: http://www.usnews.com/blogs/capital-commerce/2008/2/14/obamas-trillion-dollar-spending-plan.html
Senator Obama voted against his own economic package. Sen. Wayne Allard (R-CO) Acombed through Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-IL) many campaign promises and compiled a list of 188 new spending proposals that he then packaged together and offered as an amendment to the Fiscal 2009 budget plan. Allard calculated that for the 111 proposals for which cost estimated were possible, Obama’s promises would cost the American taxpayer $300 billion per year and $1.4 trillion over five years. Allard released a floor statement highlighting the size of this spending package, including:
The $300 billion is more than the $294 billion the U.S. spent on imported oil last year.
Obama’s current tax raise proposal would cover only $225 billion over 5 years … far short of the $1.4 trillion in spending.
To finance just the first year of $300 billion in spending, Congress would have to raise taxes on the top 1% of tax payers by 57%.
Obama voted against his own platform and the measure was defeated 97-0.
Obama proposes nothing new in terms of an economic plan. It’s just the old-fashioned solutions proposed by liberals for years –tax, spend and regulate that lead to economic stagnation.: http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=MGYxYWM4NjkxMjUwMzBhZDAwNTg2NjZmYmU5MWU2ZmQ=
Franklin Raines is one of Senator Obama’s advisors on economic issues. Raines was the head of Fannie Mae which has now collapsed. Under Raines Fannie Mae committed extensive financial fraud. Jim Johnson, former Fannie Mae CEO was a top advisor, chosen to vet potential vice presidential nominees. In 1998, Fannie Mae’s earnings were manipulated, which resulted in "maximum payouts" to executives including Johnson who earned $1.9 Million when he otherwise would not have earned a bonus. Johnson received special loans from Countrywide Financial CEO Angelo Mozilo. Property records show Mr. Johnson has received more than $7 Million in loans from Countrywide since 1998, the first coming in the waning days of his Fannie Mae tenure. Johnson also received fees and compensation from Fannie Mae worth $3.3 Million between 2001 and 2006. He resigned, but he's now back on Obama’s campaign : http://www.barackbook.com/Profiles/JimJohnson.htm

Obama will increase the capital gains tax which will discourage investment: http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/08/obama-clarifies.html
Obama is opposed to renewing President Bush’s tax cuts which actually succeeded in bring more revenue into the Federal Treasury. Effectively, this will be a tax increase on all American who pay taxes. On June 28, 2007 in a Democratic Primary debate Obama said “There’s no doubt that the tax system has been skewed. And the Bush tax cuts -- people didn’t need them, and they weren’t even asking for them, and that’s why they need to be less…”:
Obama proposes a Windfall Profits tax. Jimmy Carter tried it and it failed miserably. It raised the cost of gas and led to drop in domestic oil production: http://www.taxhistory.org/thp/readings.nsf/cf7c9c870b600b9585256df80075b9dd/edf8de04e58e4b14852570ba0048848b?OpenDocument

Barack Obama’s Policies on Energy Would Keep Us Dependent on Foreign Oil
Barack Obama opposes drilling on and offshore to reduce gas and oil prices.
While Barack Obama has opposed off-shore drilling and a gas-tax holiday (as supported by John McCain or Hillary Clinton), his solution to our energy crisis does include additional tax burdens on oil company profits, taxes we can only imagine will be passed on to the consumer, thus causing an even more expensive trip to the gas station.
Ethanol subsidies are a major plank in Barack Obama's view of energy independence and national security. He favors ethanol subsidies, some of which end up in the hands of the same oil companies he says should be subjected to a windfall profits tax: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/23/us/politics/23ethanol.html?_r=1&pagewanted=2&oref=slogin
Obama is opposed to drilling in ANWAR, in a desolate tundra area the size of Minnesota. The oil industry says it would need to use only 2,000 acres-an area no bigger than Dulles Airport, outside D.C.-to get that oil. This footprint would be 50 times smaller than the Montana ranch owned by Ted Turner: http://www.nationalreview.com/flashback/goldberg200503180758.asp

Barack Obama’s Poilicies on Health Care Would be a Bureaucratic Nightmare
Obama’s health care plan would not lower the premiums of current payers as he claims.
His health care proposal will not create universal health care. It will be bureaucratic debacle and lead to wasteful government spending: http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/03/obamas_health_care_plan.html
Barack Obama Supports Open Borders. Legal Immigration is a Great Blessing to the United States, Illegal Immigration Poses a Threat.

30%-70%: mixed record on open borders (approx. 70 members)
70%-100%: sealed-border stance (approx. 202 members)

Obama voted against the highly qualified Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23276453/
Barack Obama is an Extremist on Abortion
Barack Obama So Extreme on Abortion He Would Let Babies Die Who Survive Them
Obama voted against requiring medical treatment to be given to babies born alive after surviving a botched abortion. Jill Stanek is a nurse who uncovered the fact that Christ Hospital in Illinois was performing induced labor abortions. Some of these babies are actually born alive. Jill Stanek saw one who was discarded in a utility closet and rocked the baby for about 50 minutes before he died. Barack Obama voted against giving medical treatment to these babies.

Michelle Obama defended partial-birth abortions in a 2004 letter: http://www.lifenews.com/nat4034.html
Barack Obama supports the extreme Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). If enacted, FOCA would obliterate hundreds of state laws that protect women, parents, children, and health care workers, while forcing taxpayers to foot the bill for millions of abortions. It would overturn commonsense laws like parental notification, conscience protections, abortion waiting periods, informed consent, and regulations for women's health: http://www.lifenews.com/nat4056.html

A lot of reasons for a Strong Pro Life person to NOT vote for Obama.Posted by: LizFromNebraska at October 8, 2008 9:33 PM
Yeah, Dalia, why the heck would pro-lifers on a pro-life website be talking about how as president Obama would be bad for pro-lifers and pro-life policy? It doesn't make any sense!!
Speaking of abortion, that debate last night sure was one, wasn't it? Ninety minutes of pure drudgery and stupidity. The only good part was when someone asked a question that wasn't unbelievably stupid - what would you do if Israel is attacked? Defend them, or wait for the UN to give you the OK?
I couldn't wait to hear Obama's answer to that question. But, of course, he didn't answer it. I guess that question is above his pay grade, too.Posted by: John Lewandowski at October 8, 2008 9:36 PM
Liz, there is no good reason for a pro-life person to vote for Obama. NONE. Any "pro-lifer" who is voting for Obama is a complete fraud.
That said, I sure hope that a Culture of Life question is asked at the final presidential debate. The world needs to hear that Barack Obama voted for infanticide four times. Though I doubt McCain would actually say that, even if it is 100% true.Posted by: John Lewandowski at October 8, 2008 9:42 PM
I have a bit of hope the question may come up, only because the final moderator is Bob Schieffer, so we shall see.
And although I'm sure McCain would not use the word "infanticide" I believe he would let voters know he is the most pro abortion candidate the Democrats have ever had. And he may mention even Boxer and Clinton supported the federal version of BAIPA that Nobama opposed in his own state.Posted by: Joanne at October 8, 2008 9:59 PM

do you realize that Obama never had to vote on the Iraq war? Obama has been riding this highly throughput the campaign. You know that Clinton, Kerry, Biden, Pelosi had all said before the war that Saddam Hussian had to be dealt with:
You know, when one is President, they cannot vote "present" like Obama likes to do on uncomfortable bills.

Jasper, when you take two of Obama's answers and put them together, it's kind of funny.
Question: What do we do if Iran gets nukes?
Obama: I've always said that would be a gamechanger. Iran can't have a nuke.
Question: What do we do if Iran tries to bomb Israel... rush to their defense, or wait for the UN to act?
Obama: Umm... economic sanctions?
So put them together and you get:
Question: What if Iran tries to nuke Israel?
Obama: That would be a gamechanger. It would require some serious economic sanctions and hand wringing. To be sure, I would definitely wag my finger at Iran.
Probably the best part about him saying "economic sanctions" is that that's the policy which nutcases like Ward Churchill and Jeremiah Wright blame for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi children.Posted by: John Lewandowski at October 8, 2008 11:33 PM
@Jasper: Don't worry about it. I know my opinion on embryonic stem cell research isn't popular on here. Ah well, what can you do.Posted by: Rae at October 8, 2008 11:34 PM
Jasper, grey is the color of the rotting flesh of slaughtered unborn children. I don't like grey.Posted by: John Lewandowski at October 8, 2008 11:35 PM
@John: I didn't realize aborted fetuses become zombies. Sounds like a really bad "Shaun of the Dead" ripoff.
"Probably the best part about him saying "economic sanctions" is that that's the policy which nutcases like Ward Churchill and Jeremiah Wright blame for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi children."
yes John LOL exactly.

Are you trying to convince us that Obama understands sacrafice more the John McCain?
Posted by: Jasper at October 8, 2008 11:04 PM
Obama understands EVERYTHING more than John "gumpy" McCain.
He certainly understands politics better, the economy better, foreign policy better.
I wish someone would ask Palin or McCain which "preconditions" they're so fired up about.
For a group of people who are so concerned with the preservation of life I don't seem to see any comments expressing compassion or advocacy for the millions of people around the world that are dying needlessly everyday due to starvation and illnesses that can easily be cured.Posted by: Eliza at October 9, 2008 12:15 AM
Did anyone see the interview Hannity did with McCain and Palin?
He didnt ask about abortion either.Posted by: Joanne at October 9, 2008 12:56 AM
Citizens Against Government Waste say that Obama has an 18% rating, McCain is rated 88%. Senator Biden is rated the worst with 0%: http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/citizens_against_government_waste_obama_isnt_the_worst_senator_on_waste_bid/
This one alone should grab your attention...thanks Mike.

Hi Eileen #2!!
My husband and I do too! :)
I give a good sized donation to Operation Rice Bowl each year at Lent.
And if the medicines are obtainable here, we should send them to the 3rd world countries to help those who need them. Especially medicines like penicillin.Posted by: LizFromNebraska at October 9, 2008 8:44 AM
Why is it that PC assume we don't give to other causes? Do they hold themselves to that same standard of caring for others?Posted by: Carla at October 9, 2008 9:02 AM
Carla, that is because the liberal Democrats believe that the proper way to handle charity is for the government to take your money and redistribute it to those organizations, people, and foreign counties they feel deserve it. Couldn't possibly trust the people with decisions like that, they'd probably waste their money on places like crisis pregnancy centers instead of PP!
This is demonstrated by such patriotic givers as Joe and Jill Biden who, according to the tax returns posted on the Obama website, in 2007 claimed income of nearly $320,000 but gave to charity a mere $995, 0.3 percent of that income (but hey, this was a big charity year for them... normally they only give $120-$380 annually!)
Obama gave a much heftier amount... $240,000... impressive until you realize that it is only 5.7 percent of their 4.2 million dollar income for that year. (Because of course, the Obamas are your average middle class couple!)
McCain, on the other hand, gave 26% of his 2007 income to charity... $105,467 out of his $405,409 income. That includes neither Cindy's income, nor her charitable donations... which, let's remember, don't just involve writing a check, this woman has actually worked among and for the poorest of the world performing needed health services.Posted by: Elisabeth at October 9, 2008 9:30 AM
GO OBAMA!!! If you all need to do something is defend Mcain-- his policy stinks and he never answers questions because he can't! Not to mention that Mcain is not going to do crap for abortion... he will just leave it alone and then cut more funds and creat a bigger world for high marketing companies... Get real. This blog is not intellectual... Why don't you talk about how great Mcain is? I know why.. You can't because he sucks!Posted by: Dalia at October 9, 2008 9:45 AM
One last thing... Do you have any idea how much health care costs? Good Lord! You all have your head in the sand... If we leave it to Mcain, our world is going to be such a mess... We are bad enough... We have 52 patients with cancer who can't get treatment right now in our facility b/c they have no insurance and are awaiting governmental assistance to come through...By the time it comes.. they may be dead... You all don't know what is going on.. Kids SHOULD be insured.... if you think that Mcain's comment was funny.. than you obviously are not pro-life. If I were you..keep the blog up b/c 5 out of my 9 friend in Ohio that read this.. have not become Obama supporters...
I meant they HAVE become Obama supporters... excuse the mistake...Posted by: Dalia at October 9, 2008 9:50 AM
That's the mistake--becoming a supporter of Mr. Obama.Posted by: Jon at October 9, 2008 10:34 AM
Liz, sad thing is, malaria is caused by a plasmodium, not a bacterium, so it's not penicillin we need to eradicate it.Posted by: prettyinpink at October 9, 2008 11:13 AM
There are PUHLENTY of McCain bashing sites on the web. You might want to try them on for size.
You might like the first article I wrote, lol. Click the link on the bottom of my posts. I've only written two articles so far, so it should be clear which one I'm talking about.Posted by: Dan at October 9, 2008 12:15 PM
Dalia's next post:
McCain sucks! Yay Obama! I am smart and you are dumb. I had 268 people who were over my house today read this blog and now 436 of them are Obama supporters.Posted by: John Lewandowski at October 9, 2008 2:41 PM
Hey John... You are a perfect example of why so many smart intellectual folks are turning democrat... wow! I don't know, but the debates have favored obama..on the pure fact that Mcain defends NOTHING...he has no plan and he comes across inhumane.. Unless you are a big---money organization.. So dude, get real... Mcain is losing...and he and Palin need to start reaching out to people.. They don't even talk about abortion..(simply since Mcain is not known for being a "true" advocate)..
Anyone who doesn't feel that it is a "right" for children to have healthcare has completely lost my respect... Mcain is ridiculous excuse for a prolife movement...
I agree Sandy... This campaign is lost... Mcain and Palin are not an example of anything I believe in.. The Republicans need to start over... I have to say, Obama is becoming more appealing to me... Not to mention I can't imagine if Palin had to be president.. Scary.
How about giving us the momentum and telling us what Mcain has done to help this world?Posted by: Sandy at October 9, 2008 4:25 PM
John L, have you noticed the tide turning against Palin. American Conservative:
On Palin’s Record
2043 Posted on October 9th, 2008 by Daniel Larison
For the record, I wouldn’t go as far as David Brooks did in calling Sarah Palin a “fatal cancer to the Republican Party.” Besides being unfair to her, that seems a bit rich from someone who cheered on almost every single misguided and terrible policy of the Bush administration, which has been the metastasizing cancer in the Republican body for years. However, I do not understand the idea that there has been no conservative critique of her record. I have said on more than one occasion that I assumed conservatives did not approve of windfall profits taxes, net increases in spending or leaving behind enormous amounts of debt. If that has changed for the sake of this one campaign and candidate, I did not get the memo from the Central Committee that so many others seem to have received.
Palin supported tax increases on oil companies, which ultimately impose costs on consumers, so that she can give away more money in Alaska and buy her extraordinarily high levels of support. While I do not consider earmarks to be the grave evil that the McCain/Palin ticket claim them to be, Alaska under Palin remains the leading recipient of per capita federal earmark funding. She embraced the bridge boondoggle until it became politically radioactive, and now she pretends that she was its mortal foe. She left Wasilla under a mountain of debt, and also bungled the management of purchasing the land where the athletic facility was to be built so badly that it has imposed additional costs on Wasilla. Spending has skyrocketed under her administration. Now for good measure she has demonstrated a woeful lack of understanding of many major national and international issues, which drives home how unprepared she is, but would anyone on the right honestly look at her record as an executive before this and say, “Yes, this is the sort of thing I want to see at the federal level”? If conservatives don’t care about this, I suppose that’s their business, but can we stop pretending that this critique is based purely on whether or not she has done well in a couple of interviews? Whether judged “superficially” or on substance, there is not much there that conservatives can find that is very encouraging.
Her critics have been studying the details of her record for over a month. Have her supporters made anything like the same kind of effort, or are they, like Obama fans, simply caught up in the enthusiasm?Posted by: Hal at October 9, 2008 5:05 PM
b/c they have no insurance and are awaiting governmental assistance to come through...By the time it comes.. they may be dead...
And YET, you want more of this miraculous GOVERNMENTAL ASSISTANCE?
Amazing.Posted by: Elizabeth (Gabriella's Momma) at October 9, 2008 6:16 PM

McCain did get a bounce from the convention, but as more things have come out about Palin, it's been a one-way decline in popularity for the Republican candidate, which is becoming mucho serious.
Too late to replace her, but the "anchor-around-the-neck" feeling is growing for McCain.Posted by: Doug at October 9, 2008 6:43 PM

Well, Elizabeth, we've seen quite a bit of people wanting more governmental assistance in oversight, as with the GSE's Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, all the while ignoring Phil Gramm and the Republican resistance to that oversight of our banking system, debt derivatives, etc. - things which have lead to problems that are orders of magnitude worse than the GSE's. Whaddayagunnado?

"Too late to replace her, but the "anchor-around-the-neck" feeling is growing for McCain."
why would we dump Palin, she's energized the base. Obama is only up because of the financial mess and there's a republican in the white house. Otherwise McCain would be crusing to victory.Posted by: Jasper at October 10, 2008 9:46 PM
The Columbus Dispatch has an article on a case where Planned Parenthood failed to notify the parents of a 14-year-old girl who had an abortion. PP also failed to report statutory rape to the authorities. The girl's parents are now suing PP, and a portion of the lawsuit will be argued at the OH Supreme Court...
So Planned Parenthood twice wronged the girl. In the first instance, they condoned violence to her. In the second instance, they actually committed it. They also violated the authority of the parents. And, of course, they also violated the grandchild; they killed it.
How does a girl come to the place where she so completely trusts complete strangers? But how did she arrive in such a place where rape could take place? Her parents seem to have been less than perfect. But one wonders at the complicity of the public school system, which often undermines the care of responsible parents. Was she perhaps taught about "reproductive rights" and "sex education"?
If we're going to talk about anchors and necks, then I want to make the allusion explicit:
Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin." Luke 17:1-2Posted by: Jon at October 11, 2008 1:07 AM

Jasper, the "base" was never in doubt as to voting for McCain, and all the time there's more and more Republican perception of Palin as a weakness. I realize that Palin won't be replaced at this late date, pretty much no matter what.
Yes, Bush Jr. has made it tough on McCain, and Obama is not a "perfect" candidate (if there even was such a thing).Posted by: Doug at October 11, 2008 7:42 PM
The base certainly was in doubt as to voting for Mr. McCain. The evangelicals were certainly not going to vote for Mr. Obama; they were just so apathetic they might not have voted at all. Or they might have voted for a third-party candidate. Malaise in the base is a serious problem. Mr. Obama helped to solve the problem somewhat; if I remember correctly, he helped to convert Mr. Dobson to Mr. McCain's cause. Of course, Mrs. Palin was the clincher.
As for Mr. Obama, Mr. Hitler was not a perfect candidate, either. I hope Mr. Obama is better than Mr. Hitler, but knowing Mr. Obama's pro-abortion record, I'm not so sure.Posted by: Jon at October 12, 2008 9:58 AM
Jon: The base certainly was in doubt as to voting for Mr. McCain.
:: laughing ::
Baloney yourself, Doug. My Google search engine (the Canadian version, I suppose) urges me to vote today. My present situation makes voting difficult, and so I won't be voting--though I could. I won't be making the extra effort to vote because I'm apathetic about the Conservative party and what they stand for. If you've read some other threads, you'll know that Patricia or Joanne or perhaps both are also refusing to vote. Mr. Harper doesn't care about this part of his base--he thinks he has them anyway--and probably he's right. They're not an influential group, and Mr. Harper's a pretty good gambler. In the past, I've often voted for the Christian Heritage Party, a fringe party (Joanne plans to vote for them, I think) and so "wasted" my vote.
In the United States, I'd be called an evangelical. Some Americans regard the evangelicals as an important component of the Republican base.Posted by: Jon at October 14, 2008 2:43 AM
Jon, in the US, (as I said) the conservative "base" voting for McCain was never in doubt.Posted by: Doug at October 14, 2008 9:06 AM
