  • Students at New York University recently debated abortion. Here's one random nonsensical quote from a pro-choice student in attendance who lost a sibling to abortion: "I think about the independence of women. I couldn't imagine having sex with a pro-life woman."...

  • Two OH teens have been found guilty of murder after assaulting a young woman and killing her unborn baby:

Gibson said 18-year-old Kerria Anderson told Price she was pregnant with his child. Price learned he and Anderson were cousins and urged her to have an abortion. Anderson refused.

That's when the teens planned to beat Anderson until she lost the child, Gibson said.

Tests later revealed Price wasn't the father, but that wasn't until months after the attack.

The boys lured Anderson to an Over-the-Rhine apartment, where they kicked, beat and stomped her. Anderson went into labor and the baby was stillborn, Gibson said.

  • "License to Lie" is an interesting title choice for a post attempting to attack Choose Life license plates, especially considering that's what MI abortionist Alberto Hodari told a group of pro-choice medical students he had.

    abortion man2.jpg

  • Jen from Turn the Clock Forward on Damon Wayan's "Abortion Man":

For those of you who would rather not watch the video and possibly generate ad revenue for its creators, here's the rundown: a woman calls her boyfriend to tell him she's pregnant. He pretends to be happy about the news; she's thrilled that he wants the baby, and starts making plans for their new family life. When he gets off the phone, he calls for help, and "Abortion Man" answers the call. Abortion Man accosts the young woman as she's walking down the street and beats and kicks her. Miscarriage hilarity ensues.

I really hesitated to post this, because I know that giving the creeps who made this video more publicity is exactly what they want, and will let them claim they're "edgy". But we need to speak up and let them know that they're not edgy or funny or clever; they're just misogynistic bullies.

  • The Council of Europe calls for "safe and legal" abortion for all women in its 47 member states.

  • Mike Long from Political Mavens makes a point regarding Yale student Aliza Shvarts and her attempt to make her repeat abortions into art:

As I've said before, if abortion is simply just another medical procedure, as "pro-choice" advocates insist, then they have no grounds to object. She might as well be plucking hairs from her head to make a pillow.

  • CA's embryonic stem cell agency appears to be taking credit for research they didn't fund. They funded some of the scientist Catriona Jamieson's work with embryonic stem cells and then tried to take credit for funding her successful work which had nothing to do with embryonic stem cells. I guess when you fool the public into wasting $6 billion of their tax-dollars on embryonic stem cell research, you've got to act like they're getting something for their money.

Abortion Man is so horribly wrong and sick, twisted and backwards. Anyone who find this humorous has some serious problems.

The OH teen story is both sick and sad. Price and Gibson are sick and evil, and at the same time though I feel that Anderson should have been truthful to Price and tell him he might not have been the father. It is just an all around awful story.

About the license plates, why can't we put whatever we want on our cars without having our tires slashed? Drive around with your abortion pictures, let other drive around with their condom "just wear it" bumper stickers. Besides you never know who is just borrowing someone's car.

I don't know if I would trust a pro-life husband like, if say I was only a month pregnant and the pregnancy put me in a coma would he let us both die or choose abortion and at least save my life. I mean I personally think if one person can survive then at least let that one person live. Or an ectopic pregnancy. Would he want me to wait for my tube to rupture? It depends on the individual. Like if my boyfriend didn't want me to have an abortion is I got pregnant then I wouldn't. But I wouldn't want to die if my pre-born kid was going to die to.

Back in my day, daddies beat their pregnant daughters causing miscarriages to prevent family shame. Especially if their daughters were pregnant by a black man. Oh the shame! The authorities didn't bother themselves with a man and his property you know.
Gee! I wonder how we got here? Do you mean now that it is no longer legal to beat women and children?

If an abortion was truly necessary to save your life your doctor would be fully authorized to go ahead and perform the procedure, with or without your husband's permission.
Would he want you to wait for your tube to rupture?
Please Jess, if your doctor confirmed an ectopic pregnancy you can give your permission for surgery. If you wait for it to rupture because your husband wants you to well, I won't comment. I'll just say it wouldn't be very bright of you.
About the thyroid condition. There is far better medical management of various conditions that at one time posed a threat to pregnant women. In this day and age, it rarely comes down to the life of the mother versus that of the unborn baby. If such a threat does indeed exist, every effort will be made to preserve the life of the mother, and if possible the child as well.

Good point. Why is this violence considered any kind of entertainment? Certainly various women's and anti- violence groups should have a very serious issue with this.

Oh no, Hooves-in-Maw. I certainly wasn't attempting to imply that. I thought Jess was making an allusion implying that Zeke believes that we should sacrifice humans (that isn't quite what he believes, but I think a lot of people see it that way) My laugh was not towards you at all :)

    Jess, 8:35PM

I in no way made light of your aunt's situation but only meant to reassure you that medical care has made great advances in the past 30 years. My training would be viewed as stone age.
In that era its entirely possible your aunt required an abortion to save her life and got one. I would certainly have no issue with that. It proves my point that abortion has always been available when necessary to save a woman's life.
There was a time when a woman with rheumatic heart disease was signing her death warrent if she became pregnant. Improved medical care drastically reduced the death rate in pregnant women. Better medical care also reduced RH. RHD is now virutally non-existent.

Are you sure that's right Jess? I mean, yes it is correct that that's what you thought, but are you sure Zeke would rather let both of them die then do some sort of intervention, not a direct abortion, but something to save the mother's life? Despite all the guff that we give him, Zeke is a very intelligent guy, and if I had to guess, I'd say he subscribes to the principle of double-effect. I could be wrong, though. Do you recall him explicitly saying that he would rather they both die?

Posted by: Bobby Bambino at April 17, 2008 8:50 PM

It's not healthy or safe and isn't abortion illegal beyond a certain point of viability and would she even want that?

Posted by: Jess at April 17, 2008 9:00 PM

Well, most pro life women prefer to be in a relationship that comes with a RING and a promise of loyalty (AKA Marriage), so that's why they wouldn't be interested in a prochoice MAN.

Posted by: LizFromNebraska at April 17, 2008 9:15 PM

Really? I hate it. When I hear it, all I can think is: "What crazy ____ is putting frogs into pots and then boiling them?"

"Sure shows the mentality that Television City passes for entertainment: Violence against women = funny."

I don't find it funny, either, CC. But you'll have to admit: our entertainment media far more often commit the transgression of showing female violence AGAINST MEN as funny. That's not okay, either.

And the guy who "can't imagine having sex with a pro-life woman" reminds me of the bumper sticker, "Just say no to sex with pro-lifers." Obviously, some pro-choicers really think they're all that and a bag of Ruffles, huh?

According to the NYT, that 50% number is inaccurate. This is from 2005.

The figure is based on a simple - and flawed - calculation: the annual
marriage rate per 1,000 people compared with the annual divorce rate. In
2003, for example, the most recent year for which data is available, there
were 7.5 marriages per 1,000 people and 3.8 divorces, according to the
    National Center for Health Statistics.

But researchers say that this is misleading because the people who are
divorcing in any given year are not the same as those who are marrying, and
that the statistic is virtually useless in understanding divorce rates. In
fact, they say, studies find that the divorce rate in the United States has
never reached one in every two marriages, and new research suggests that,
with rates now declining, it probably never will.

It's also interesting, but women who graduate from college are less likely to divorce.

But since 1980, the two groups have taken diverging paths. Women without
undergraduate degrees have remained at about the same rate, their risk of
divorce or separation within the first 10 years of marriage hovering at
around 35 percent. But for college graduates, the divorce rate in the first
10 years of marriage has plummeted to just over 16 percent of those married
between 1990 and 1994 from 27 percent of those married between 1975 and
    1979.

About 60 percent of all marriages that eventually end in divorce do so
within the first 10 years, researchers say. If that continues to hold true,
the divorce rate for college graduates who married between 1990 and 1994
would end up at only about 25 percent, compared to well over 50 percent for
those without a four-year college degree.

Check out more statistics on divorcereform.org/rates. Most of them seem to indicate divorce is actually going down. My theory is that when divorce became acceptable, a bunch of people who wanted out of sucky marriages did so and drove the rate up, now it's getting more stagnant and probably will remain around 25-30%.
