The FBI is now involved, as are postal authorities, investigating this federal offense of mail fraud. Fox News Chicago carried the story last night. Matt at PLAL reported:
The report, which ran on the 9 o'clock news, gave some great background on the fraud and gave Ann [Scheidler] time to explain why the hoax is disrespectful to everyone involved - even pro-choice women obtaining abortions!...
The mailer markets 1 at-home abortion kit for $400 or 3 for $1k. They are advertised to "break down the fetus into bio-waste in a mere ten minutes... [to] be disposed of down the toilet, down the drain, or into a compost heap because it is completely safe for the environment... up to the eighth month of pregnancy," according to Corrina at PLAL.
The mail originated from Carol Stream, IL, a western suburb of Chicago. PLAL is located on Chicago's north side.

I don't even understand the point of this hoax. I guess it would make more sense as a prank if the flyers were sent to pro-choice groups or the general public, but misrepresenting a pro-life organization to fellow pro-lifers is just stupid.Posted by: len at April 9, 2010 9:47 AM
