Because of the mentality that Children are some sort of curse. What happens if a girl who "wants children later" has an abortion, but something goes terribly wrong and they end up having to do an emergency hysterectomy? She can't have children "later".

This cartoon makes a very good point.

Posted by: LizFromNebraska at October 19, 2008 9:57 AM

"Because of the mentality that Children are some sort of curse."

If that were true then why would any of us have children? Obama has two. Why would he give himself two curses?

And it seems like pro-lifers always refer to the person having the abortion as a girl. Usually it's women 18+ or older, a lot of them are already married and have kids.

Here are some facts about who has abortions:
-About 60% of abortions are obtained by women who have one or more children.
-Fifty percent of U.S. women obtaining abortions are younger than 25: Women aged 20–24 obtain 33% of all abortions, and teenagers obtain 17%.
-Forty-three percent of women obtaining abortions identify themselves as Protestant, and 27% as Catholic.

http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/fb_induced_abortion.html

And I feel that wealthy white women have less abortions because they have more "appendicitis."

SAFETY OF ABORTION

• The risk of abortion complications is minimal: Fewer than 0.3% of abortion patients experience a complication that requires hospitalization.[12]
• Abortions performed in the first trimester pose virtually no long-term risk of such problems as infertility, ectopic pregnancy, spontaneous abortion (miscarriage) or birth defect, and little or no risk of preterm or low-birth-weight deliveries.[13]
• Exhaustive reviews by panels convened by the U.S. and British governments have concluded that there is no association between abortion and breast cancer. There is also no indication that abortion is a risk factor for other cancers.[13]
• In repeated studies since the early 1980s, leading experts have concluded that abortion does not pose a hazard to women’s mental health.[14]
• The risk of death associated with abortion increases with the length of pregnancy, from one death for every one million abortions at or before eight weeks to one per 29,000 at 16–20 weeks—and one per 11,000 at 21 or more weeks.[15]
• Fifty-eight percent of abortion patients say they would have liked to have had their abortion earlier. Nearly 60% of women who experienced a delay in obtaining an abortion cite the time it took to make arrangements and raise money.[16]
• Teens are more likely than older women to delay having an abortion until after 15 weeks of pregnancy, when the medical risks associated with abortion are significantly higher.[17 ]

I'm hoping you'll read these but I don't know, most of you seem not too fond of facts.

Posted by: Jess at October 19, 2008 11:00 AM

Wow there were more pregnancy related deaths in 2002 alone then there were abortion related deaths in the ten year span of 1990 to 2000:
-How many abortion-related deaths are there each year in the United States?
Between 1990 and 2000, there were between four and 11 deaths related to legal abortion in the United States each year. (41)
-How many U.S. women die each year from pregnancy-related causes?
In 2002, a total of 357 women in the United States were reported to have died of maternal causes. The number of maternal deaths does not include all deaths among pregnant women—only those in which the cause reported on the death certificate is related to or aggravated by pregnancy or pregnancy management. (42)

You would think a military man would have a greater appreciation for McCains "Country First" character. After five years of torture as a prisoner of war the enemy offered McCain a chance to return home. He refused and told them to send other prisoners home instead because they had been there longer. That my friends is the REAL DEAL. Even when enduring torture he still puts others well being above his own. If McCain does not become president, America is missing out a rare opportunity to be lead by a man of character whose actions prove he is deserving of being our leader.

Posted by: Milehimama at October 19, 2008 12:55 PM

Milehimama-

What Ayers says is irrelevant, he doesnt need to say a thing. Actions speak louder than words,, as I said even the prosecutor of the Weathermen thinks the link is ridiculous:

As the lead federal prosecutor of the Weathermen in the 1970s (I was then chief of the criminal division in the Eastern District of Michigan and took over the Weathermen prosecution in 1972), I am amazed and outraged that Senator Barack Obama is being linked to William Ayers’s terrorist activities 40 years ago when Mr. Obama was, as he has noted, just a child.

Although I dearly wanted to obtain convictions against all the Weathermen, including Bill Ayers, I am very pleased to learn that he has become a responsible citizen.

Because Senator Obama recently served on a board of a charitable organization with Mr. Ayers cannot possibly link the senator to acts perpetrated by Mr. Ayers so many years ago.

I do take issue with the statement in your news article that the Weathermen indictment was dismissed because of “prosecutorial misconduct.” It was dismissed because of illegal activities, including wiretaps, break-ins and mail interceptions, initiated by John N. Mitchell, attorney general at that time, and W. Mark Felt, an F.B.I. assistant director.

@Joanne: May I ask how you come to the conclusion that Obama has no love for our country?

Posted by: Rae at October 19, 2008 1:00 PM

Jess @ 11:10 AM

Jess - those numbers aren't accurate or believable for the following reasons:

1. The fetus is not counted. That's a problem because you have two distinct sets of DNA - 2 individual human beings. If the death of the fetus is counted, you have a completely different picture.

2. Situational cause of death is not directly written/traced on the death certificate. A perforated bowel (septic conditions), or infection which comes from not retrieving all fetal tissue often is the listed cause of death. While the doctor may know the original cause that lead to the condition of death, they usually won't put that down because it could be speculative on their part.

3. Considering that Guttmacher is actually a research institute that spun off of Planned Parenthood - I'd have to say it's biased. It's amazing that people will accept as gospel what's clearly coming from a biased source, but question other studies that contradict those.

if you wonder what all the medical privacy stuff was all about...

Posted by: Dan at October 19, 2008 1:28 PM

Truthseeker you're going to get AIDS from eating AIDS infected animal meat. Or at least if RSD wasn't lying. He said AIDS began by either having sex with a monkey or eating one, why does he think two men will get AIDS if they have sex? Their bodies can't handle the different DNA. If that's true then don't you think your body will get messed up by eating animals with different DNA?

You might have only had sex with one woman, but how many people did the guy who had sex with your hamburger sleep with? Oh yes, there have been cases of factory farm employees sexually assaulting the animals.

Screw the fries, do you want jizz with that?

Posted by: Jess at October 19, 2008 1:36 PM

But then who knows. Maybe if he hadn't been executed Tim McVey may also have become a model citizen.
If Eric Rudolph he had beat his Olympic Park and abortion clinic bombing rap(in which a police officer was also killed) he might well have also become a responsible citizen, just like Bill.

@Truthseeker: Um...no. I was hi5-ing your straw man.

And no, semen does not act like an accelerant and HIV is hypothesized to be transmitted from monkey to man from HANDLING infected monkey meat (not having sex with monkeys).

And they know the origin of HIV was Africa and through back-tracking using genomic data and mutation rates, they found that it is likely a derivative of SIV.

Just admit that you're wrong. That's all I freaking ask. I'll never bring this up again if you'd just admit that you're wrong on this.

TS-

yeah, the EXACT cause is unknown, and never will be. However HIV is likely an adaptation of SIV, that much IS known. It HAS been traced back to Africa, and its existence has been traced back to 1959 at the least.

As for the cause, the website I directed you to gives the current theories on HIV development, and gives them all, with the most likely coming first, known as "the hunter" theory, aka it likely came from monkeys in the form of contaminated meat, blood mixing, etc

Here's the facts:

1987 William Ayers meets Barack Obama

1987 Michelle Obama and Bernadette Dohrn work

1988 Ayers solicits Khalid Al-Mansour to raise
money for Obama’s Harvard Law School education

1989 Tom Ayers and William Ayers get Obama a

1993 Ayers places Obama on Woods Foundation

1995 Ayers makes Obama Chairman of Annenberg
Challenge through 2000

1995 Ayers hosts Obama’s political coming out
party in his home (Obama falsely claims this is
when he met Ayers)

1997 Obama and Ayers serve on a juvenile justice
panel sponsored by the University of Chicago;
Obama blurbs a book for Ayers

1997-2004 Obama in Illinois Legislature

2002 Obama and Ayers co-panelists on
intellectualism -co-sponsored by the Chicago
Public Library

2005 – Present Obama in US Senate

2007-2008 The structure of Obama’s presidential
campaign increasingly resembles an Ayers-
designed national “community organizer matrix” as
espoused by ACORN.

2008 Obama in response to ABC News, tells a
national TV audience he was “8-years-old” when

The o'bama really needs to clear that up, as soon as it it not above his pay grade.

yo, wizard of uuuuuuhz,

What is you current pay grade?

Are you redistributing any of 'YOUR' own wealth?

I am not talking about spending other peoples money. I am talking about spreading your wealth around.

I know you don't indulge in those superficial displays of patriotism, like wearing flag pins or reciting the pledge or singing the national anthem.

Just how much of your wealth have you redistributed by 'investing' in america?

According to your pal Joe (Biden, not the Plumber) that is tangible way to demonstrate your love for and loyalty to our country?

How much have you donated to any charitable organization? When is the last you bought a homeless person a meal or even a cup of coffee?

What about your half brother in Kenya? Did you even buy him gift to celebrate Kwanza?

with any and all due respect

Come on now. Some of you munchkins out there give me a link that shows the o'bama's charitible contributions since he has been a United States Senator.

Jimmy Carter had his 'misery index'.

The wizard of uuuuuuhz can have his 'barameter'.
We will let him set the example for america.

What percentage of his gross income has the o'bama contributed to charitable institutions.

You know like the United Way, or Red Cross, or the United Negro College Fund?

To the kool aid drinkers.

What's the first thing Nobama would do as President?

Sign the FOCA. Nobama says its the first thing he would do.

Nobama sought the assistance of Planned Parenthood in order to be sure BAIPA would not be passed in Illinois.

Nobama gives speeches to PP stating his support for the culture of death.

So if you think Nobamas first priority would be the economy, the war in Iraq, or something else, its actually FOCA.

Hal,

Please directly quote some hateful gossip about Obama.

Posted by: Mary at October 19, 2008 6:08 PM

The o'bama has been a beneficiary of charitable organizaitons.

How much has he contributed?

Hey no one really needs 250k$ a year.

That is what the o'bama told Joe the Plumber.

So did the wizard of uuuuuuuuhz contribute to charity from his own annual income.

I am pretty sure the o'bama's annual income was significanty more than 250k$.

How much money has the o'bama actually earned, aside from his work for government and charitable organizations?

What has the wizard of uuuuuuhz actually produced that was of value in the free market?

Has the BO ever held a job in the real world?

Hello munchkins,

This is your hero, your savior, your super hero.

You think you know him well enough to give him the keys to the White House and the launch codes to our nuclear arsenal.

You ought to be able to answer these questions.

If you can't, then you really do not know the o'bama (pbuh).

Hal,

It would take an artist to insult the o'bama(pbuh). I am but a mere mechanic.

I confess that I have insinuated that the o'bama is really a closet Irishman, but that is not really an insult. There is nothing wrong with being Irish.

Liz they are so cute! That's like my sister and I when we were kids, except she was always hitting me with stuff (she liked being an only child). She also referred to me as "it", as in "make it stop crying!" for the first few years of my life. So yeah I wasn't aware I was a person till I was about seven.

Isn't it curious that she's now the pro-lifer of the two of us and I lack the ability for cohesive thinking?

And Alison I totally beat you, I was drinking as a fetus!

kbhvac at October 19, 2008 6:27 PM

Clarification: "There is nothing wrong with being Irish."

There is nothing wrong with being African.

There is nothing wrong with being African/Irish or Irish/African.

'I lack the ability for cohesive thinking?'

Google 'fetal alchol syndrome'. It might explain your inability for cohesive thinking, if you really have that disability.

Well my Mom never drank that much... I was referring to my sister hitting me often over the head when I was a baby. Not all kids want siblings : (

To be fair though my Mom's friends daughter was holding my sister when she was a baby and she dropped her on her head on pavement. Well you wouldn't really want to drop a baby on its head on anything.

We have fun though : )

Posted by: Jess at October 19, 2008 6:54 PM

Actually I'm glad that I only have one sister. If my parents had more kids I probably wouldn't have liked them anyway. I mean I can't stand most of my cousins...

Posted by: Jess at October 19, 2008 6:56 PM

Jess,

My older sisters held me down and tickled me til I wet myself.

My therapissed (ha, ha, ha,) tells me I have to let go, but that was the problem. I could'nt not let go while they were tickling me.

Jess,

The fetal alchol syndrome is not a joke. It is a serious problem.

It is much more damaging than binge drinking.

Well it appears the munchkins know that is silly to attempt to defend their savior, the o'bama (pbuh).

A lesson we christians could stand to learn when it comes to our Savior, the Christ.

JESUS does not require defending.

My sister chased me around the house hitting me with a frozen sausage once, but I'm not a vegetarian because of it, she did it because I was a vegetarian : )

Jess,

Reminds of that scene from the Woody Allen movie where the giant breast is pursuing him across the field squirting a stream of milk at him.

Some kind of hidden message in both instances.

I know Ken the worst part is because many women don't know they're pregnant until a few weeks or even months into it they continue drinking as they would, hurting the baby without even realizing it.

Posted by: Jess at October 19, 2008 7:17 PM

Breast milk is a healthy alternative to cows milk. You can buy it at certain health food stores, or find a female friend and make it yourself. So it can actually be a lot cheaper then cows milk too.

Pull up, pull up.

I'm wavin you off.

Abort! Abort!

Go around and try a different approach.

Jess,

One last point about fetal alcohol syndrome.

While most women in the United States may not know they are pregnant at the earliest detectable moment, most do have reason to suspect their physical status may have changed after they have missed their second menstrual cycle, at about six weeks gestation.

Most informed pregnant women do not drink enough to endanger the health and development of the embryo/fetus. The ones who continue to consume alcohol and/or drugs in quantities large enough to harm their unborn child after they know they are pregnant are probably addicted. I am also sure there are a few pregant women who are not addicts that have no regard for the health of the embryo/fetus in their uterus.

I am equally sure that even most pregnant women who are addicts do care about the well being of the embryo/fetus in their uterus, but their addiction is stronger than their will or even their maternal instinct.

I just wonder if society has a compelling interest in protecting these prenatal human beings from their mothers and preventing society from being harmed economically from the high costs associated with providing for the people born with this preventable developmental disability?

Is the states interest compelling enough to justify intervention to ensure that the mother is alchohol and drug free until after the child is born. Then can the child be jutifiably removed from an environment where he/she will be demonstrably vulnerable to suffering from neglect and/or abuse.

What do you think?

Jess is full of facts today about the SAFETY OF ABORTION. Busy girl.

Abortions performed in the first trimester pose virtually NO long-term risk of such problems as infertility etc. etc. etc.

I am wondering what my 3 friends would have to say about that. All three of them have had abortions and were unable to ever get pregnant again. They became infertile and that was confirmed by their gynecologists that their infertility was caused by their abortions. Imagine. The only child they were ever going to carry, was killed by abortion.

Carla,
That is so sad!

Posted by: Janet at October 19, 2008 9:29 PM

Carla, your "Jump Woman!" story is hillarious! :)

Reminds me of something goofy I did last summer. I'm taking a walk in a park, and I come to the edge of a 3 foot drop. Just below is a lovely flowerbed. Instead of walking around it, I stepped down. Needless to say, it wasn't pretty. I was lucky I didn't break anything. There was no one around except one guy on a bike who I had just said hello to. I'm sure he laughed all the way home.

I remember Powell in front of the UN assuring the International community that Iraq had tens of thousands of tons of weapons of mass destruction.

Truthseeker, the Bush administration did rather hang him out to dry on that one.

Carla maybe it's God's way of showing them they can adopt. If they could get pregnant and give birth would they ever adopt? There is some lonely child out there who needs a good home.

Posted by: Jess at October 20, 2008 8:11 PM

Maybe it's a painful reminder of the horrors of abortion, Jess. They made a choice that took the life of the only child they carried.

I refuse to get into any conversation with you about God. It drives me insane.

Posted by: Carla at October 20, 2008 8:15 PM

Well their dead baby could have used a good home as well but you can't bring people back from the dead unless you're God. So look on the bright side, turn misery and regret into something good.

Posted by: Jess at October 20, 2008 8:16 PM

Yes Carla because I cannot possibly have any religious beliefs seeing as I'm not a human, I am a vegetarian. *head tilt* Does this mean I can only mate with other vegetarians, are my children going to be vegetarian too? Since we aren't human can I abort them?

Posted by: Jess at October 20, 2008 8:28 PM

Jess, It has nothing to do with you not being human.

Posted by: Janet at October 20, 2008 9:29 PM
