This reminds me a bit of the time when Senator Quayle compared himself to John Kennedy in a TV debate. His opponent, Senator Bentson of Texas, told him he was "no John Kennedy".

Mr. Obama, you are NO ABRAHAM LINCOLN!

Posted by: Doyle at February 15, 2009 11:11 AM

Obama is inspired by Lincoln. He has never said he was Lincoln. He is, however, doing a fantastic job and winning over many people who didn't even vote for him.

Posted by: Hal at February 15, 2009 11:24 AM

Oh yeah, Hal, his horrific socialist "stimulus" bill is winning him all sorts of fans.

I have to agree with Lauren. Just who is "the one" winning over that he didn't already have in his pocket?

Actually, all Quayle said was he had the same experience and was the same age as Kennedy, which was true! Remember the flack he got for it? You would have thought he compared himself to God.
Personally, I don't think its any compliment to be compared to John Kennedy.

I used to work with a fellow who emigrated to the USA from Poland. He had been a member of the Solidarity Movement and had been imprisoned for his crimes against the state.

His first name was Jersey (pronounced yurik). Jersey gave me a rather large book to read to familiarize myself with then present day Poland. (The Soviet Union was still intact and Poland was still a satelite.)

Each chapter of the book started with an humorous anecdote or joke.

One that my memory has retained went something like this:

Two Polish workers were drinking coffee and reading the latest edition of Pravda.

One worker commented that the Communist Party officials had announced there would be plenty of bread available that week at the state run grocery store.

The other worker noted the paper said there would be enough milk for every family.

The first worker said, "Man, things are worse than I thought."

The lap dog media in the USA is almost as idealogically driven as the Pravda was.

We are not yet to the point where you have to seriously consider the opposite of what is being reported, but you should have an ample supply of sodium chloride on hand, because even if you take everything with just a 'grain' that is still a lot of salt.

Hal,

You better check the latest Rasmussen poll. Obama's disapproval rating jumped from the teens and low 20's to 39%. It sounds like a lot of undecided people weren't exactly won over.

Posted by: Mary at February 15, 2009 1:19 PM

I don't think Obama should be compared to Lincoln or anyone--he just started, we hardly know what he's like.

Posted by: Leah at February 15, 2009 1:26 PM

Ken,

At least Pravda had the excuse that it had no choice but to be lapdogs. The communist regimes' "media" existed at the mercy of the state and to serve the state.
The yapping lapdogs that pass for our MSM don't even have that excuse.

BTW Ken, did you hear Tom Brokaw blubbering during the Inaugaration as to how even the seagulls were in awe of the crowds. Why Obama even as our feathered friends transfixed.
He's referring to brainless rats with feathers.
I'm sure the only thing the seagulls concerned themselves with was divebombing all the garbage.
I would loved to have seen a seagull drop a huge momento right on Brokaw's face.

Ok, this is totally random but since we're talking about Kennedy...

Have any of you seen the telivision show Red Dwarf? It's a British show that was on during the late 80's-early 90's.

Basically the premise is that there is a lowly repair man on star-trek like space ship who gets frozen in stasis while the rest of his crew are killed by radiation which his stasis machine protects him from. He remains in stasis until the radiation clears...something like a million years.

He has a holograph 'friend' who they send to help him and man who evolved from his cat.

Anyways...really long set up to say they have lots of zaney adventures and at one point they somehow do a time travel scenerio in which they run into JFK. They somehow end up stopping the assasination and then change the course of history to the point where everyone ends up hating JFK.

They somehow get in touch with him and tell him that had he been assasinated he would be remembered fondly and as a great man, so the future version of JFK ends up being the second shooter on the grassy nole.

Whomever thinks the giant porkulous political payback bill which just passed will wave the magic job creation wand across America might be partaking of the same substance Michael Phelps was inhaling from the bong.

The only thing that works is getting the government off the backs of the job creators, i.e. the entreprenuers, small businesses and business start-ups, and the taxpayers. Kennedy's, Reagan's, and W's tax cuts produced between them some 40 million jobs and long stetches of economic growth. We know tax cuts work.

Keynesian economics, on the other hand, has failed everywhere it has been tried. It reduces the private sector of the economy and causes inflation to rise, but our new President and congress won't let that stop them from another try at it.

The only redeeming thing in the bill is the tax cut portion, which will amount to the equivalent of a half tank of gas a week for the average family. Aside from that, from the standpoint of generating private sector job growth, the bill is a bust, and many are predicting another round of spending proposals before the year's end.

What we are witnessing at 1600 W. Pennslyvania is a revolution. Obama and his comrades have no mandate to socialize America, but that's not stopping them from trying. The overwhelming tax burden this administration will pass on to our children and our children's children will soar many times beyond anything the Bush deficit spending even came close too.

Have at it Obama supporters. Now is your time to shine. When the majority of people finally wake up to the resulting geopolitical, economic and social policy carnage, the days of the Obamarunination of America will come to an end. The the hard work of picking up the pieces of a ruined economy and weakened USA will begin, and it will take an entire generation of fiscal austerity to begin to return to normalcy.

Posted by: Jerry at February 15, 2009 2:56 PM

Jerry,

Obama let and Nancy(Mussolini) Pelosi and (Prince) Harry Reid write the bill. It was Christmas morning for left wingers to finally get what they wanted.

This is a massive payback bill.

The one good thing I've seen Jerry is that the Republicans have finally grown a long overdue pair.

Carder,

Obama has brought Chicago politics to Washington. He's beginning to make Blago look good. I wonder if even Blago has ever sent an opponent a dead fish.

I'm certain that every effort to be nice to the Iranian rulers will result only in good will in return. its exactly how one should handle tryrants and fanatics.
Why, look how happy the Taliban, who splash acid in the faces of little schoolgirls, were over the closing of Gitmo. Who says terrorists and tyrants don't respond to our kind gestures?
Maybe a few of their acid splashing buddies will go free.

Posted by: Mary at February 15, 2009 6:50 PM

A more likely scenario would be the son of a Blagojevich sending his dead opponents to the fish.

Mary, right - I saw that debate, and while I don't remember the format - don't know if Quayle was allowed to respond right then - he should have immeditately replied, "I said I was the same age as him, I didn't say I WAS Jack Kennedy."

You are on a roll!

I read the article posted on the MSM home page which highlighted the story of the woman and her son who were living in a truck in Florida. The mother met Obama and voila! She might as well have been the winning contestent on the Price is Right.

I wanted to see the comment section to get a feel for what people were thinking. I figured it had to be a pretty unbiased place to comment.

I would say 2 to 1, people were disgusted that Obama wasted thousands of $$$ going to a townhall meeting and used this woman as a tool for false publicity to slam the "failed policies of the last eight years"

People who voted for Nobama were angry with him just as people who saw through his thin veil and didn't.

Anon 9:06am,

I think Quayle figured it to be a harmless and truthful comment, which indeed it was. Quayle was the same age and had the same amount of experience as JFK when he ran for president. I think he was taken so aback by Bentsten's response, which was totally low class.
Then you heard the wailing and chest pounding over Qualye "comparing" himself to JFK, as if this was comparing himself to God instead of a serial philandering and very mediocre ex-president.

IMO Bentsten paid Quayle a compliment.

And all of this happened in the first month! Thank God the "Rule of Law" is back! I guess when these liberal lunatics use the phrase "the Rule of Law", it means "Democrats". "I'm glad to have the rule of law back" actually means "I'm glad to have the Democrats back, because I'm a hyper-partisan madman who doesn't care about anything but the Dems being in power."

Don't pretend you don't understand how bad the last 8 years have been. Exxon get's hit by an Alaska jury with punitive damages, Bush's supreme court bails them out. (Even Palin criticized that decision)

how about the chief of staff, white house counsel and Karl Rove being in contempt of Congress for refusing to honor valid subpoenas? (Executive Privilege allows you to refuse to answer certain questions, it does NOT allow you to refuse to appear).

There's more, but I've got to run.

Posted by: Hal at February 16, 2009 5:17 PM

If Obama is truly behold to the rule of law then he should be carefully screening every nominee and demand only the highest standards.
He would never have tolerated a tax cheat running the treasury or a Chicago thug for a chief of staff.
I don't care what Bush did Hal, Obama was going to put an end to all of this once and for all, right?

Obama will turn loose people who throw acid in the faces of little schoolgirls and blow up tents full of women and children? How reassuring. Did you ask Obama what he's doing with this bunch once he closes down Gitmo?

Also Obama promised the American people we would have 5 days to review his spending bill. Have you had a chance to review it Hal? He wailed about this "crisis" yet he can take his wife to Chicago for Valentine's Day, at your expense, and delay signing this bill until Tuesday. So much for a crisis.

His cabinet selections have been good. Not A+ choices, but a solid B to B+

"take control of the census" is a nice buzz phrase, but it's pretty meaningless. What exactly has he done to the census that bothers you?

In the days of black and white TV it was 'Queen for a Day' (no asitis, not about homosexuality)
where women would compete at having the worst circumstamces (son needs a new iron lung, husband has bad back, etc.) The live audience would listen to the misery and demonstrate their sympathy and compassion by applauding what they determined to be the woman who had the most heart wrenching tale of woe. (I am not making this up.) The applause meter which was prominently displaye on the bottom of the TV screen would gage the amplitude of the response.

The winner would be crowned and cloaked and receive a bouquet of long stem roses and enough money to make her dream come true for a 'day'.

I only got to watch that show when I was too sick to go to school. Wow. Times have changed. Or have they? What about those people on Fear Factor or Survivor? Boy am I scarred or what?

I remember that meter to measure audience applause for whoever had the best sob story, then the lucky lady got a robe, crown, roses, and was placed on a throne. She would always blubber as she got her new washer and dryer, dishwasher, iron lung, or whatever.
My dream was to be one of those ladies who dressed in those pretty costumes and escorted the "queen" to her throne.

What is is you think I'm lying to myself or lying to you about? If you can be all ga-ga over Palin, why can't I admire Obama? From my perspective, he's exactly what I want in a President. I don't think he's perfect, I don't expect to agree with everything he does, and I'm sure there will be tough times ahead. But he's doing the kind of things I want done, in a way I want them done. You don't agree, but that doesn't make me a liar or even pathetic. I generally appreciate the differences of opinions that make our country stronger, even those I think are so wrong. I probably listen more to Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and Bill O'Reilly than you listen to Air America or Keith Olbermann.

I must say that you and Mary (and formally HisMan) would get my blood pressure rising, but now I'm more likely to chuckle and be glad you're the minority voice these days. I'm fairly certain I'm not suffering from "some manner of psychosis," but I do appreciate your charity.

I must say that you and Mary (and formally HisMan) would get my blood pressure rising, but now I'm more likely to chuckle and be glad you're the minority voice these days. I'm fairly certain I'm not suffering from "some manner of psychosis," but I do appreciate your charity.

Well Hal, your being a homophobe, might make your blood pressure rise too.

Hal,

If we're in this terrible crisis that The One has been warning us about, why is he playing basketball and dining with his wife in Chicago, at huge expense to the taxpayer, instead of in Washington signing this bill that is certain to save us from impending doom?

No Hal, the American people did not have 5 days to review this bill as promised. How reassuring that our Democrat senators and Congresspeople also have no idea exactly what they signed since apparently they didn't have time to read it either.

You can rant and rave all you want at me Hal. It doesn't change the fact you've been taken in by a smooth talking sociopath. Live with it. Don't feel bad, I have been taken in by more than a few in my lifetime as well. These people are masters of manipulation.
Hal, I had to come to the conclusion a longtime friend and coworker was a sociopath. I felt very badly but hey, the red flags were there and I overlooked them for years. I wasn't being mean, I was just facing up to a very unpleasant fact.

Eventually Hal you will have to do the same where your man Obama is concerned. The red flags are flapping in the breeze.

I don't know Mary, President Obama seems like a pretty decent guy to me. Very solid, smart, and thoughtful. I'm not concerned that he dines with his wife. They guy has to eat sometime. Bush spent 879 days of his presidency on vacation. (30%)

My advice to you Mary is to try to see some good in everyone.

TIME OUT!

Lewandowski, you know I love you. Perhaps "cur" wouldn't be the way to go at this point.

Hal, you usually don't blow your top on this blog, so to let Mary, of all people, have it, something must have really gotten under your skin.

So.

In defense of Lewandowski and Mary, yes, Obama's agenda has thus far proven to be less than stellar in more ways than one. Even the Far Lefties are giving him lip about certain issues. And I fear it is only going to get worse.

In defense of Hal, enjoy your victory for the time being. You've managed to be the friendly opposition regular in this here blog, and your input is welcome, regardless of ideology.

I think we're due for another online party.

Hal,

Whatever our differences I think the world of you. I think your anger is that I'm touching a nerve. We never like being told what we simply don't want to believe.
GWB took 879 days out of 2,920 of the presidency for vacation.

Hal, I try to see the good in everyone. A sociopath will use your efforts to see the good in him/her to their advantage, to manipulate you.
Put simply, you don't trust these people any farther than you can throw them whether they are friends, neighbors, family members...or politicians
I get along with my sociopathic friend. We'll have lunch, he will help me out if I ask. But you know what Hal? I NEVER forget I am dealing with a sociopath. My advise is you never forget either where Obama is concerned.

Carder,

An outstanding post. Thank you.

Posted by: Mary at February 17, 2009 4:54 PM

Carder, and Mary, I apologize for "blowing my top." I was a bit overboard, no doubt about it.

(But yllas called me a homophobe again.)

I resolve to be more polite. Plus, I'm pretty busy these days anyway, you won't see too much of me for awhile. I'll stop by when I can.

Posted by: Hal at February 17, 2009 5:51 PM

Hal,

Not a problem. Please stop by and visit us when you can.

Carder, let me make myself clear - I have more respect for someone who burns down a church and desecrates the Eucharist as long as they admit to being a Satanist or God-hater than I have for these pro-aborts. I have more respect for a rapist and murderer who admits to his crime than I do for "people" like Obama, Hal, and the rest of the pro-aborts who constantly play dumb.

Why? Because they are dishonest about what they're up to. They are dishonest to the core. If someone wants to devote their entire life to evil, fine, but they should be willing to come right out and say it. This dishonest, chicken@#$% behavior from these pro-aborts is worthy of nothing but contempt.

Posted by: John Lewandowski at February 18, 2009 3:55 PM

Oh John, I have not devoted my whole life to evil. Nor has Obama, to the best of my knowledge. We disagree with you on whether abortion should be legal. That makes us "dishonest to the core?"

I think not.

I don't think the loss of an embryo is any great tragedy. You do. I understand that you do. You understand that I don't. I think giving the government the power to regulate this type of decision would have negative consequences. You don't. It's an honest disagreement. I don't think your beneath contempt for your views on this subject (but maybe for the way you express them). If that makes me worse than church burner or rapist in your eyes, that says more about you than it does about me.
