Planned Parenthood director sees abortion ultrasound and quits; PP files restraining order

UPDATE, 4:30p: Additional information, from a press release:

The [Bryan, TX] Planned Parenthood clinic [where Abby Johnson worked] was the location of the first-ever 40 Days for Life campaign in the fall of 2004, and the prayer and fasting initiative has been held outside the doors of Johnson's former workplace 5 additional times....

PP has gone to court to seek a restraining order against both Johnson and the Coalition for Life, the local group that originated 40 Days for Life and continued regular prayer vigils in front of the clinic for the past 5 years. A court hearing on the order, which addresses disclosure of confidential information, is scheduled in a Texas court on November 10.

Shawn Carney, the director of the Coalition for Life and a 40 Days board member, has been working with Johnson since she left her job last month. The former clinic director has even begun to pray outside the clinic where she formerly worked....

Johnson is one of 8 abortion industry workers who left their jobs during the 5th coordinated 40 Days campaign that concluded yesterday in 212 cities. She was the highest-ranking of the 8. Others who quit their clinic jobs included nurses, office staffers and security personnel.

In addition, a PP abortion facility in Kalispell, MT, announced it will close its doors on November 20, citing a decline in business as the reason for the closure. That clinic was the site of a 40 Days prayer vigil this past spring.

From KBTX.com, November 1:

Planned Parenthood has been a part of Abby Johnson's life for the past 8 years; that is until last month, when Abby resigned. Johnson said she realized she wanted to leave, after watching an ultrasound of an abortion procedure....

"I just thought I can't do this anymore, and it was just like a flash that hit me and I thought that's it," said Johnson....

She handed in her resignation October 6. Johnson worked as the Bryan PP [pictured left] Director for 2 years.

According to Johnson, the non-profit was struggling under the weight of a tough economy, changing its business model from one that pushed prevention to one that focused on abortion....

Johnson said she was told to bring in more women who wanted abortions, something the Episcopalian church goer recently became convicted about.

"I feel so pure in heart (since leaving). I don't have this guilt, I don't have this burden on me anymore, that's how I know this conversion was a spiritual conversion."

Johnson [pictured right] now supports the Coalition For Life, the pro-life group with a building down the street from PP. Coalition volunteers can regularly be seen praying on the sidewalk in front of PP. Johnson has been meeting with the coalition's executive director, Shawn Carney [pictured right], and has prayed with volunteers outside PP.

On Friday both Johnson and the Coalition For Life were issued temporary restraining orders filed by PP.

Rochelle Tafolla, a PP spokesperson issued the following statement: "We regret being forced to turn to the courts to protect the safety and confidentiality of our clients and staff, however, in this instance it is absolutely necessary."

The temporary restraining order contends that PP would be irreparably harmed by the disclosure of certain information but does not bar Johnson or Coalition For Life volunteers from the premises....

A hearing about the order has been set for November 10.

KBTX aired an interview with Johnson and Carney. But while the story, posted above, stated her reasons for resigning were due to seeing an abortion on ultrasound as well as being forced to try to sell more abortions, the video footage of the interview makes no mention of the abortion ultrasound, critical information, no?

------------------------------------------------------

What kind of evidence is PP required to produce for a judge agree to trample on your first ammendment right to freedom of speech and association?

It's not like PP had some sort of valuable proprietary information they had to protect to maintain their viablity as an killing center.

Every thing they do is in the public domain.

Did ms Johhson or the Coalition for Life even have an attorney at the hearing?

But it is good that PP is squeeling like the stuck pig that they are with all this feined concern about the release of 'patient data'.

That should give pregnant women even more pause for thought before they darken the doors of 'Dead Babies R Us', Inc.

Wow... good for Ms. Johnson. I hope she remains visible and outspoken. She can do some real damage to PP's "image." Pro-lifers know PP is in it for the money -- not out of some noble and selfless desire to help women.

Is PP Bryan where the 40 Days for Life Campaign began?

This death camp was blocks from my son's home when
he lived in Texas.

Praise God this woman's heart was touched by the Lord
for the innocents!!!

May many more have the veil removed from their hearts and minds.

Coooool..

Good one, Carder.

I don't see any PHI (protected health information) anywhere.

Planned Parenthood is just going harass her.

No, hippie, it was College Station, TX, home to Texas A&M I believe.

I'm happy she left that death center. Ultrasound really does help people go against abortion. In this case, it made a person leave her 'job'.

Hippie, you asked, we'll answer. Stay tuned for update... :)

THIS is exactly why pro-abortionists are against ultrasounds! Ultrasounds have the power to change hearts and minds. What encouraging news today! Thank you, Abby, for leaving PP!

actually, it **was** where 40 Days for Life began....didn't realize that Bryan and College Station were so close together.

Posted by: LizFromNebraska at November 2, 2009 5:13 PM

Yeah, they're basically the same city. Though the Aggies in the crowd might object to me saying that.

"I just thought I can't do this anymore, and it was just like a flash that hit me and I thought that's it," said Johnson....

and

"I feel so pure in heart (since leaving). I don't have this guilt, I don't have this burden on me anymore that's how I know this conversion was a spiritual conversion."

Praise the Lord!

This story makes me so very happy!

Thank you so much for posting this!

I'm rejoicing right with you ladies!

That's our Jesus!

“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance. Lk 15:4-7

Yeah! Satan is a liar and a loser.

"Planned Parenthood has been a part of Abby Johnson's life for the past 8 years"

She worked for PP for 8 years and it took an ultrasound for her to change her mind?

I find it hard to believe she worked there all that time and was totally unaware of just how awful abortion is.

The power of prayers!
"The gates of hell shall not prevail" ~ Matthew 16:18
Psalm 9:13 Have mercy upon me, O LORD; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from the gates of death:

Hell awaits those who persist in killing those helpless little babies.

3 Maccabees 5:51 and cried out in a very loud voice, imploring the Ruler over every power to manifest himself and be merciful to them, as they stood now at the gates of death.

We understood God's divine Mercy ,but many couldn't understand God's Divine Justice.

The human heart is an amazing thing isn't it Joanne?

Remember the pregnant abortionist who found her emotions reacting "funny" when she was dismembering one baby while carrying one of the same gestational age in her womb? Or the women who love the children they choose to carry to term but deny that the ones they abort were even their children.

We have the capacity to compartmentalize our reality, excusing or justifying unrighteousness (sin)when it suits us.

Two people look at graphic pictures of abortion and see two different things, one a butchered baby, another, just a gross "fetus", sub-human, etc.

What is it that causes the light to go on?

I think that people have to want to know the truth. If they don't, they can hide behind the lies, excuses and justifications in their own mind...until Judgment Day.

God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.” Jn 3:17-21

(Didn't intend to single out women in the above post. Us guys are probably even more prone to compartmentalizing our thoughts, justifications, etc. We're all guilty.)

Posted by: Ed at November 3, 2009 7:28 AM

Ed, your post touched me. Your words are true. People can lie to each and everybody, including themselves. They are so stubborn, they will accept whatever terror, cruelty, murder, crime as long as they can construct some kind of justification for it.
It's not only about abortion, but also about so many other sins.
One day in the future our grandchildren will shake their heads in disgust, asking how society could ever allow this.

Many work at planned parenthood for low wages, and there are even more of us reaching out to help women on a volunteer basis. Abortion and all control over her body is not about money. When more speak out about their lives being touched in positive ways by Planned Parenthood, you will have a more full, true story.

Posted by: Stormy at November 11, 2009 11:03 AM

Stormy,
Nobody HAS to work at a Planned Parenthood. Am I supposed to feel bad that PP doesn't pay well?

Helping women do what exactly? Do you moonlight at a Pregnancy Care Center where the real help is given? Let's hear all about it!

I am popping the popcorn right now Stormy, so I am ready for all of the positive PP stories that are going to come out!! Even if PP sends inner city kiddoes to summer camp it hardly makes up for the thousands of babies killed everyday at PP or the women they wound. But I will try to remain positive that you can come up with something.
