Yesterday conservatives publicized that the White House was recruiting informants on its blog to turn in emails and web addresses of those spreading "disinformation" on Obamacare, i.e., anything in opposition.
Today Big Brother's request remains up (click to enlarge)...
... prompting Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) to write a great letter to the WH reminding Obama of the First Amendment, requesting him to remove the request, and asking exactly what Obama plans to do with names, email addresses, IP addresses, and web addresses of people countering his healthcare disinformation. Great last line:
Do your own past statements qualify as "disinformation"? For example, is it "disinformation" to note that in 2003 you said: "I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer universal health care plan"?
[HT on Cornyn letter: Michelle Malkin]
"If you get an e-mail or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to email@example.com."
This is a travesty.
Can the White House please define "fishy"? Or, is it above their pay grade?
I think the fishing industry should take offense.Posted by: Janet at August 5, 2009 2:09 PM
OMG what type of Democrat is opposed to free speech? He "can't handle the truth" apparently so he calls all opinions that disagree with his "disinformation." By that definition about 90% of opinions & facts in the world would be disinformation. Is he a Democrat or a dictator?Posted by: Amy Philo at August 5, 2009 2:30 PM
Our goal should be to cover all individuals through private health insurance. We need to be advocates for greater transparency in both quality and price information - place both the decision making ability and healthcare dollars in the hands of the consumer. http://www.friendsoftheuschamber.com/takeaction/index.cfm?ID=40 .Posted by: mld678 at August 5, 2009 2:45 PM
Oh, for goodness sake! I'm all for setting the record straight, but this is ridiculous! I could understand if there were a single prominent email, or even 2, that were supposedly "misleading"... but this is ridiculous!
It's not dissimilar to saying, "Uh, hey, we'd like to tap your phones for a while; it's in your best interest!" Ick.Posted by: MaryRose at August 5, 2009 2:49 PM
"Do your own past statements qualify as 'disinformation'? For example, is it 'disinformation' to note that in 2003 you said: 'I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer universal health care plan'?"
Brilliant. It would be really cool if everyone reported Obama for spreading disinformation, as a sort of protest/show-of-force. At worst, it would slow down their attack on "disinformation".Posted by: Chris at August 5, 2009 2:53 PM
From the looks of other blogs, it appears that people are getting very creative in reporting the "fishiness" going on. The White House appears to be a popular one. Someone making $100,000 per year is probably fishing through all these emails at the WH. Great use of tax-payers' money.
It's unbelievable that this kind of request was put forth by the president of the United States.
If Obama had anything to do with it, anyone criticizing him would be put into prison or given the death penalty. He isn't man enough to handle criticism from the other side, because he knows that he's fighting a losing battle if more people know what he REALLY stands for.
B-B! .... B-B! .... B-B!...Oh, I mean, HOPE! CHANGE! HOPE! CHANGE! HOPE! CHANGE!
I repent of my thought crimes! I love Big Obama!Posted by: xalisae at August 5, 2009 3:34 PM
Do we get sent to the President's office for a stern talking to??Posted by: carla at August 5, 2009 3:46 PM
No, I think it starts with a beer chat ($8 domestic, $10 export, Visa MC Amex accepted) while the IRS begins our audits (recycled tactic from Clinton's administration), then it's off to re-education camps, comrade!Posted by: klynn73 at August 5, 2009 4:18 PM
Is TRUTH now considered "disinformation" OR is it "disinformation" because a lot more people are believing the TRUTH instead of their lies on Obamacare??
President abortion can't handle the truth when a lot more people believe in it rather than what their gangster gov't is telling the people.
A lie built upon another lie can only crumble in the face of truth...like the parable of the house built upon the sand.
Let the disinfecting light of truth shine upon Obamacare and see what stands...Posted by: RSD at August 5, 2009 4:40 PM
What is wrong with trying to stop insurance company propaganda from misinforming the public by making stuff up?
For example: Obama does not want to kill old people.
No one is trying to stop speech. They ARE trying to rebut false statements designed by the insurance industry to gain support for killing reform efforts. Why? because they make tons of money under the current system which allows them to only cover healthy people.
Not that you people could be convinced.

Please cite sources for the "false statements designed by the insurance industry". I don't know where you are getting your information from but the numbers of uninsured in this country are grossly overstated. Included are those who choose not to pay for coverage such as young collage grads who see no need for it, those who are between jobs, illegal aliens, (and I'm probably forgetting more examples). Should we force people to pay for insurance if they don't want it??
How many people will be out of work when the insurance industry goes bankrupt? What will they do? Go work for the auto industry in Detroit?
The President's chief medical policy advisor has espoused that. He said that medical care should be reserved for the non-disabled, not given to those "who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens . . . An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia" (Hastings Center Report, Nov.-Dec. '96).
What am I missing??Posted by: Joe at August 5, 2009 6:18 PM
Wow. Would this qualify for comparison with a Saddam Hussein-esque dictatorship, or should we look next door at Iran instead? Or maybe it's just plain communist.
Or maybe since some folks are turning on the lights, the roaches are scattering.
Never thought I'd see anything that demented come out of the President of the United States' office. There was a time when people in this country would see this type of thing happening in other countries and be GLAD they lived in a country where this was NOT A PROBLEM. Guess those days are gone, my friends! Welcome to the Taliban-like days of having your neighbors spying on you. Wonder when they're going to start tossing folks in the slammer (or giving them a good, old-fashioned 40 lashes) for disagreeing with our government officials.Posted by: army_wife at August 5, 2009 7:50 PM
Many have "reported themselves" in Operation Go Flag Yourself. LOL'd imagining the Dissent Czar pouring over these hilarious confessions. Oh wait, the czars' average salary = $170K/yr of taxpayer money. Well, Obama said he'd create jobs.Posted by: klynn73 at August 5, 2009 8:03 PM
Mods, can you please delete my 8:03 post?
Many are reporting Pelosi and Reid, Frank and BHO himself, complete with links to video clips of him saying he wants a single payer system.Posted by: klynn73 at August 5, 2009 8:14 PM

Yeah, I'd like to see those statements too. I think what's happening is that average citizens are doing what our elected officials in Washington aren't. They're reading the bill. And when you do that it's clear that the bill doesn't square with Washington rhetoric.
Like when libs say that you can keep your private insurance they don't mention that you only get to keep it during the grace period. After that you're required to switch to a government-approved plan.
I posted this on another thread but I'll repost here a video link you can copy & paste into your browser. The first part explains why you can't keep your current insurance and the end discusses the policy advisor Joe referred to in his post.
I've seen libs bash this speaker as not being credible, but I don't see anything in the bill that contradicts what she says except on one point. And that's whether privately insured people can pay out of pocket for additional services not covered in their health plan. I can't interpret the bill's legalese well enough to understand if it's allowed or not.
I'm fed up and I approve this message. No insurance company endorsed or took part in the creation of this post.
Wow! This is hot news. Did anyone get this information to Sean Hannity or Greta Von Sustern for a full investigation and to get an interview with Senator Cornyn? This is the "change you can believe in" folks. Pray for this nation to let freedom ring once again and for our rights not to be plundered.Posted by: Prolifer L at August 5, 2009 10:26 PM
From an article at Red State:
"We have a White House asking neighbors to turn in neighbors by forwarding emails — some of which will contain IP address information. And we have the White House demanding internet providers provide them with the home addresses corresponding to those IP addresses."
I know I'm not saying anything we don't already know.... but this is scary stuff!
He wants people to snitch on those who oppose his policies???
This isnt even socialism anymore.... it's going way beyond that.
And not a word from The Communist News Network, MSLSD or the three networks. Of course, they are totally in O's camp so this is no surprise.Posted by: Joanne at August 6, 2009 12:39 AM
Regarding the NTIA / ip (internet) address comment above: the NTIA wording specifically states that ANY info for fed govt shoukd NOT be gathered. Exactly like the fed govt gets exempted from the proposed health care plan.
Everywhere that the socialists have taken over, they exempt themselves from the misery of the common masses. In recent months, citizens have used the U.K freedom of information laws to expose wide corruption of funds available to their legislators. There has been a great investigation of the pay-for-nothing scams for the pay available to each EU country's representatives.
And we are all familiar with the stories of how the USSR party officials lived the good life as their comrades starved.
This is inherent in any govt run not by the people but by the elite.
Here is some misinformation for everyone:
Obama's health care plan will mandate abortion funding. Obama's health care plan will not mandate abortion funding.
I do not know which statement is misinformation because they are being deliberately vague about this issue. So, to actually post misinformation regarding abortion coverage in the new healthcare, I have to post both statements.Posted by: Row1 at August 6, 2009 10:46 AM
From Merriem-Webster Dictionary:
"Main Entry: dis·in·for·ma·tion
: false information deliberately and often covertly spread
in order to influence public opinion or obscure the truth "
SO...who's the REAL culprit in spreading disinformation about Obamacare, I wonder????Posted by: RSD at August 6, 2009 10:58 AM
...hmmm..snitching on neighbors/ friends/ family/ acquaintances to get in the "good graces" of the government...sounds vaguely familiar...
Oh wait, now I remember...The Fascist movement of Il Duce, the Gestapo/ Waffen SS in Europe, the Japanese occupation of Asia under the guise of Co-prosperity...and that's just during WW II...
Now, guess what those in power/authority do to those that were "snitched on".
Reminds me of an old saying:
"Those who do NOT learn from history are doomed to repeat it."Posted by: RSD at August 6, 2009 11:09 AM
Watched Hannity and Greta last night on FoxNews they both did excellent reports on this "fishy", Big Brother, spy on your neighbor edict by the White House, so glad someone is reporting this have not heard one word so far by MSM about this.Posted by: Prolifer L at August 6, 2009 12:12 PM
