ABC News, "The abortion vote the GOP is planning to use to bring down Obama"

obama%20point.jpgBill and Hillary Clinton recently complained the press has not scrutinized Barack Obama's "poetry" and "fairy tales."

Yesterday, several political pundits anticipated that any day now the MSM will begin knocking Obama off the pedestal upon which they have placed him, particularly in light of the Clintons' criticism and the embarrassment of their pollsters getting the NH primary so wrong.

That day has arrived. Finally.

From ABC News today, titled, "The abortion vote the GOP is planning to use to bring down Obama"...

.... Republican operatives have been examining Obama's record in Springfield, Illinois, and think they have caught Obama voting the wrong side of an abortion bill that will turn off the public "like partial birth abortion cubed," in the words of one GOP operative.

The bill would have required medical care for babies born alive during unsuccessful abortions - an issue no Democrat trying to win over independents and Republicans would want to spend any time discussing.

The Republican party, of course, plans on attacking whoever wins the Democratic nomination.... Whoever wins will be painted as too liberal for America.

But Obama's abortion vote, the GOP hopes, may prove to be the sort that Clinton alludes to when she suggests he has not been vetted, his having been blessed by the Gods of Fate during his 2004 US Senate campaign....

Republicans suspect Americans will find the vote indicative of out-of-the-mainstream liberal views.....

Comments:

You do realize that abortion doesn't even make the top ten list of issues Americans care about?

I'd vote for a pro-life candidate if he reflected my views on the important issues.

Posted by: FetusFascist at January 10, 2008 1:38 PM

Yes, abortion is important.

Posted by: heather at January 10, 2008 1:40 PM

FetusFascist, while many Americans may not care about abortion, the vote-pro-life folks are quite numerous, and frankly they make or break elections. This is why Giuliani cannot possibly win.

I'm not kidding. While keeping Roe v. Wade the law of the land is important to me, the vast majority of Americans don't care either way:

Hi all. Gianna is doing great. I can't believe she's 8 weeks old! She's here at school with me now. Since I take care of the baby while the wife works, I only come into school about twice a week, which is why I'm not online as much. But we're getting a computer for home, so hopefully I'll be on more soon.

Thanks for the pic of Zeke, Bethany. That's kind of what I expected him to look like... And how bout that Doug? What a strapping lad! I like the idea of having pics for everyone to see.

The baby is starting to cry now. God LOVE you, my friends.

Truthseeker,

mk,
You make "friends" with the PC'ers on this blog
by replying to their mockery with sarcastic banter back and forth. Exactly how that is going to help them. It may allow them a temporary relief but it is disingenuous.
The sarcasm and mockery are "really" offensive to those who hold life inside the womb as a precious gift from God. I guess the people who are complaining see you not as helping the PC'ers but rather as playing up to them by joining with their sarcastic back and forth banter. I have no problem rebuking even the PL posters who would attack, but you need to have some serious dialogue with the PC crowd sometimes or the blog loses it's value.

You make a good point, but you haven't been here long enough. Lately, I've just been trying to keep everything civil. And if you look you'll see that Doug, Bethany and I have been having that very dialogue you are describing for months now.

It ebbs and flows. If I wasn't moderator I could "comment" more, but sometimes it's all I can do to keep Texas Red from starting a riot or finding the lost souls that Zeke has sent to hell.

Humor is my way, whether I'm talking with Pro choicers or Pro lifers. And ask anyone on here. I'm not all one liners. Carder has even hinted (wink) that I'm a bit verbose. There is a time for long wind and a time for light breezes...this week has been challenging, to say the least. And look, someone named Martin has showed up to sweeten the pot...

Posted by: mk at January 10, 2008 2:38 PM

Heather,

I see that you posted on a dropped thread...

What I meant by "I think I'll pull a Heather" was that I needed to take a little time to gain some perspective. Didn't you do that last week with the foot surgery? I thought it was a great way to avoid making a bigger mess of things. I certainly wasn't mocking or insulting you...I was following your lead. It seemed quite prudent. Sorry if you misunderstood.

Not too long ago we read where Hillary was trying to best Barack as the more pro-choice of the two because of his wimpiness in voting "present" on some abortion legislation instead of a direct yes or no.

Coming on the heels of the Clintons' criticism of Barack's favorable media coverage it seems ABC is using the GOP as cover to help Hillary. Actually, the GOP will not have to do anything to expose Barack's position, as this will be thoroughly hammered out well in advance of the general election by Hill's and Barack's back and forth sniping on the issue.

TexasRed,
I myself was a bit surpised when I looked up murder and it included the word illegal.
Does that mean all the babies aborted before
the Death Roe decision were murder but the last 50 million were just the wanton slaughter of human life with premeditated malice? Oh, I forgot to mention the mutilation and mangling.
Is that rally what the PC community stands for or is it just a few bad apples? Any PC'ers care to reply on Red's behalf I would be glad to hear it.

I don't see where she "dehumanized" anything, at least in this thread. Heck, the unborn in this argument are as human as you and me - the DNA is there. What is operative is that they may be unwanted.

Not that its anything to bragg about. How could the Clintons and their friends in the media let this huge story of Obama opposing the BAIPA get swept under the rug?

Its obvious that if Billary wants to come out on top then they'll have to get this info to as many voters as possible.

TS, I said I didn't see where she did that, at least in this thread. On "crotch goo," etc., - yes, you do see such from time-to-time. Still, the same thing applies - even the goo can be just as human as you and me.

"Human" is not really the argument here. If you see somebody saying that the unborn in this argument are "not human," then they're wrong and I'd argue it with them as hard as anybody.

Doug

Posted by: Doug at January 11, 2008 8:21 AM

Doug,

You've brought up an interesting point...

Let's take a poll.

How many of you think that "the product of conception" is not human?

Posted by: mk at January 11, 2008 8:26 AM

Well, Jill, I see you're getting into it with the thin-skinned pseudo-pundit over at the Trib. You should know that he will not allow an inch for anyone who says anything critical about Obama. A guy called Obama an empty suit and Zorn threatened to ban him and called him a racist (and the commenter was a lib, too). Someone said that Obama seemed arrogant in the debate. Zorn accused her of being racist, too.
In the view of Zorn and other Chicago media, there is no legitimate criticism of Obama.

Posted by: Brian at January 11, 2008 10:43 AM

Doug,
It's not just saying things like that as part of a debate. It's saying it, being asked to stop cause it hurts, and ignoring the other persons sensitivities. At least that's how Sandy put it yesterday and from what I saw ff was not at all apologetic when Sandy brought it up.

Posted by: truthseeker at January 11, 2008 11:24 AM

Well, seeing as how both barack and hilary have the same pro-choice rating by the same organizations, trying to call one out as more pro-choice than the other won't work too well.

And I doubt hilary was referencing this bill, rather, she seemed to be referencing the same half-quote Bill constantly goes to to try and make Obama seem like a liar on his war stance.

Doug: Re your picture of Obama. Now you have me thinking he is really from Kentucky.

Posted by: Anonymous at January 11, 2008 12:52 PM

My sense is that pointing out Obama's extremism will help him in the Democratic primary (which is why it is Republicans and not fellow Democrats who are thinking about using it). In fact, Hillary hit Obama for voting present on a number of abortion related votes.

Dems are Zorn-like in their love of abortion rights.

Doug: Re your picture of Obama. Now you have me thinking he is really from Kentucky.

Ha, Anonymous - have to laugh at that, though I know what you mean. However, some of the best people I know and have ever worked with are from Kentucky.

In fact, the dumbest person in Kentucky moved to Tennessee, and the collective IQs of both states went up!

Truthseeker, you have a good point there. There are people on both sides who like to "push buttons."

So, point taken, but also I think that there is "spin" often engaged in by some members of either side of the argument, i.e. there is sometimes some real presumption by pro-lifers too.

And so it goes. I like your posts - you're pretty darn reasonable.

Brian, Jim Zorn, first Quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks, who often threw to Steve Largent, who later was a US Congressman?

Or John Zorn, composer, producer, plays a bunch of instruments, has hundreds of album credits.?

They were both born in 1953, by the way.

Or are you a Trekkie and meant "Borg"?
