Workers detail complaints against late-term abortionist Carhart to newspaper

The Omaha World Herald reported August 21 that Bellevue, NE, late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart had fired 4 of his 10 employees, which became "the subject of a complaint filed with the state about possibly unsafe conditions." Carhart's explanation for the terminations, according to OWH:

Carhart wrote in a letter to his former employees that the layoffs were the result of "the recent decrease in patient numbers and income."...

And that complaint?

"This is nothing new," he said. "They are always making stuff up, and they aren't very credible."

The NE Attorney General's office confirmed to Operation Rescue (1 of the groups spearheading the complaints) that it had forwarded it to the NE Dept. of Health and Human Services, "which would be the appropriate regulatory agency," wrote OWH.

Turns out there was a little more to things. According to OWH today...

The World-Herald spoke with 4 former clinic workers, who agreed to be interviewed only if their names were not used because they feared being sued over confidentiality agreements they said they signed with Carhart....

None of the clinic workers left their jobs by choice.

Two of the women said they routinely started IVs at Carhart's clinic though they weren't registered nurses or certified licensed practical nurses, as required in NE. One was fired from the clinic in June, while the other was laid off this month. There is no indication the women lost their jobs because of their alleged involvement in starting the IVs.

A 3rd former employee, who was fired about 6 years ago, said she frequently administered medication intravenously although she wasn't a certified LPN. That's the minimum requirement for the procedure, according to... NDHHS....

Two of the former clinic workers said they were trained by a registered nurse at the clinic and eventually were taught to insert IV needles and to give intravenous medication. One of the women, who had completed no education beyond a high school diploma, said she was starting IVs and administering medication within a few months of starting to work at the clinic.

Another of the former workers said she saw dried blood on an instrument laid out for a procedure.

A 4th former employee said she was concerned for the safety of the patients because she sometimes saw unsanitary conditions while she worked there. She was laid off from the clinic this month.

Three of the women have felony drug convictions. One was convicted after she was let go from the clinic. The 2 others had the convictions on their records before they were hired....

One of the former employees contacted OR through its Web site. Another contacted Larry Donlan, president of Rescue the Heartland. Donlan or his attorney contacted the others....

Carhart said several months ago that he temporarily would take on late-term abortions after his friend and colleague, Dr. George Tiller, a Wichita, KS, abortion provider, was shot and killed at his church in May....

Carhart specified that he would do 3rd-trimester abortions at the Bellevue clinic only in cases in which the fetus, because of a medical problem, could not survive outside the mother's body....

Carhart... challenged the federal Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the federal ban in 2007.

Comments:

Dear God,
I always thought that getting an IV in 1982 against my will, to be drugged and coerced, was at the very least, administered by someone who was trained? And then coming down with an infection afterwards, going back to the clinic, where they admitted I got "ping-pong" from their admission? It sounded like an STD and I figured that the young girl explaining away the reason why I got the infection was that she was as uninformed and ignorant as I?
But... I never dreamed that the nasty woman that punctured the IV into my arm, may have not been qualified to do it in the first place. I chaulked up the whole evil experience to the fact that it was before the HIV culture had hit. After about 1985, I always thought the instruments had to be sterilized after each procedure. Many of these mills have probably never changed with the culture because they hire untrained personnel. I thought that I was treated that way in 1982, because it was so long ago and that now, at the very least, they followed "some" guidelines. Nothing has changed, I am not alone?

It still amazes me that anyone could walk into that clinic for any medical procedure. It is a dump and, call me prejudice, I would not even walk in to see if the inside was any better than the outside.

We need to pray for these women. I'd read before that Carol Everett revealed the abortuaries target specific groups to hire, particularly single mothers who felt financially strapped to continue in the business---but prior felony drug convictions certainly seems like another weapon to wield to keep employees or discredit them should they blow the whistle. Aren't there laws about people with said convictions working around narcotics?

Carhart says of his former employees that "they're always making stuff up" --funny, that was an asset to him and his bloody business previously. Interviewed separately their stories are startingly alike. God, please let justice be served and this man put out of practice.

Mark Crutcher has an excellent website outlining the legal rights for abortion clinic employees:

http://www.clinicworker.com

I hope someone has made or will make them aware of this resource. I tried to open Operation Rescue's website but it appears to be down.

@ klynn73: The Carol Everett testimony you reference (and several other very frightening/depressing testimonies) are available at the Pro-Life Action League's Meet the Abortion Providers page:
http://prolifeaction.org/providers/

I'd love to have one of these former abortionists contact us about sharing their story at a conference... wish they weren't anonymous.

I am shocked that yet more proof of substandard and unsanitary conditions and poorly trained staff working in aborton clinics has come to light. Why, this kind of thing only happens in back alleys!

That clinic does look like a dump -- I wouldn't take my cat to a place that looked like that!

Posted by: Phillymiss at August 28, 2009 1:00 PM

Hi Phillymiss,

There are laws to protect your cat from such conditions. Apparently women don't rate the same concern or same standard of care as the family pet.

I wouldn't have my jeep serviced at a garage that looked like this dump.

LeRoy Carhart's photos always look so miserable to me. Like a trapped animal.

Even older photos... although he looks worse as time passes (more unhappy), I have yet to see a photo from any time in his career that doesn't remind me of a mouse that's been backed into a corner by a large cat. Just... unhappy, trapped, helpless.

This is a man who needs to turn to Christ.

MaryRose: I agree he needs to Turn to Christ, but lets pray for him to turn away from Abortion first. We don't need another "i'll do my Sunday duty" abortionist like Tiller was, one who acts like a christian on Sundays (goes to church) but during the week does the work of SATAN.

Liz,

I understand your sentiment, but I'm not talking about turning to Christ like Tiller did. I'm talking about actually putting Christ first. In reality, turning fully to Christ is mutually exclusive with turning away from abortion, in this case most especially.

A man who sacrifices children at the altar of liberalism is not following Christ, no matter how frequently he attends services.

Most people are surprised to learn that since Roe v. Wade/Doe v. Bolton, most states' first-trimester abortion clinics have not been adequately regulated by health departments. Abortionists' claim that regulations "impose an undue burden on a woman's right to choose" have prevented most states from holding them to any standards for competence, sanitation or safety. There have been more regulations for competence, sanitation and safety, for beauty parlors on the books - in MOST states, than there have been for abortion clinics.

Lynn R.N.,

I am often surprised by many abortion clinics that have been caught being completely unsanitary and unsafe as well.

Further, is seems to be true that many abortion clinics are located a little far in locale from well equipped hospitals. I have heard that it is a requirement for birthing centers to be within a certain distance from hospitals (very close) just in case of an emergency.

I wonder, how close to a hospital is Carhart's place? In partaking in late-term abortions, I'm sure he knows that these abortions pose great health risks in case of complications. ...or does he?

Sometimes I wonder just how much knowledge and/or care abortionists have for their patients...

Posted by: segamon at August 28, 2009 11:23 PM

They feign care, segamon. They will tell you what a great job you did, what a good little patient you were, what a noble choice you made....after they just ended the life of your baby.

The abortion industry is based on the lie that it helps women. That it cares. There are thousands of us post abortive moms that learned the truth about that.

I do think Carhart looks very old and ill and unhappy. His business is taking a toll on him.

Posted by: carla Author Profile Page at August 29, 2009 6:48 AM

I wouldnt let Carhart feed my dog, and hes been dead for three years. Funny how fast the proaborts have turned on these women, citing past jail time. If these women were still participating in abortions the feminazis would be all for them again. Maybe healthcare reform should include estrogen replacement for the feministas since they clearly got none to begin with (and no maternal instinct either) always happy to eat their own if it furthers their killing agenda. You get a very different response from them when their own existence is called into question. Life has some importance then. Funny how that works isnt it. Personally I hope Carhart will soon be enjoying the same bright future Tiller is. Good riddance.

Jill Guidry,

This should come as no suprise considering:

They were silent when Patricia Bowden accused the nephew of Ted Kennedy of rape and the Kennedy millions were used against her. They apparently had no issue with Kennedy leaving a woman to drown.

They supported none of the women who accused Clinton of everything from exposing himself to rape. They maintained a deafening silence as these women were portrayed as liars, bimboes, and psychotics.

The feminists have proven time and again they are about promoting a political agenda, not looking out for the interests of women.
