Last week the FL legislature passed HB 1143, a bill that would require ultrasound viewing for women seeking1st-trimester abortions and would permit FL to opt-out of covering abortions as required by the federal health care bill....
Now the bill awaits the signature of Gov. Charlie Crist (I-Flip Flop). Enter Republican Senate candidate Marco Rubio, who publicly gave Crist the pro-life nudge:
It is my hope that Gov. Crist will come down on the side of life, and sign HB 1143 into law, or at least allow it to become law without his signature. This commonsense measure is a small but important step toward providing women with vital information during perhaps the most critical health care decision they will ever make.
... [T]his legislation will also allow FL to opt out of the abortion coverage mandate in the federal health care overhaul which was recently passed. If Gov. Crist vetoes this legislation, he will clear the way for taxpayer funding of abortion in FL, an extreme policy which runs contrary to the mainstream values most Floridians share.
The reality is that this legislation will save lives, and I hope that fact alone will outweigh any concerns Gov. Crist may have.
Not one to take the Governor's veto for granted, pro-choice State senator Eleanor Sobel (D-Hollywood) whispered sweet nothings in Crist's ear, as she relayed her encounter to the Palm Beach Post blog:Press reports indicate that 80% of the calls and emails into Gov. Crist's office so far are asking him to veto this important bill.
Live in Florida? Contact Governor Crist and urge him to sign HB 1143 into law. By phone: 850-488-7146; by fax: 850-487-0801."I think it looks positive for a veto, but it's not over 'til he vetoes it," Sobel said. "I actually went up and whispered in his ear.... It means a lot to the women in this state."

This doesn't have anything to do with the topic, but Rubio is SO HOT! Handsome, smart, and prolife -- too bad he's married!
Posted by: phillymiss at May 10, 2010 3:40 PMI don't believe that 80 % of the calls were asking him to veto the bill.
He will need a lot of courage to do the right thing. Hopefully a lot of people or praying for him. When a mom's life if truly at risk who thinks that a C-Section is appropriate. I do and I think moneies for that should be allocated in the health care package. And I think if her life is not in immediate danger than in order to do a C-Section two medical opinions should be required and of course that would be her decision to make also. I think that would be real choice. That would be exploited too but at least real health risks for women would be addressed with everything possible being done to save the child also.
Posted by: myrtle miller at May 10, 2010 5:46 PMUmm... how could anyone possibly be against a bill that would make more information available to make an informed decision?
Oh... that's right... it's not about an informed choice. It's about a particular choice: abortion and only abortion!

I SO agree! Hahahahaha!
Posted by: Vita at May 11, 2010 4:52 AMVita, maybe we could have a calendar of handsome prolife men and use the money to fund CPC's -- any volunteers out there, guys?
Posted by: Phillymiss at May 11, 2010 12:17 PMHot is in "Hades" which is a special place prepared for those who promote abortion. It appears as if those banished there will have lots of company, but it won't be a pleasurable experience.
Posted by: ekern at May 11, 2010 12:24 PMA prolife male calendar. I think you're on to something...
Right off the bat the two most attractive high profile prolife guys happen to be latino: Rubio and that Mexican actor, Eduardo something-or-the-the-other.
Any other nominations?
Posted by: carder at May 11, 2010 12:43 PMOh, I know that guy who made "Bella."
He is so handsome it hurts.
And don't forget Tim Tebow and Jim Cavaziel.
Of course, it would be tastefully done!
Ok, philly, we're on a roll.
Rubio
Eduardo Hot Mexican
Tebow
Cavaziel
That's four. Eight other months to go. We can throw an extra prolifer for good measure.
Anyone else? Nominations are now officially being accepted.
Posted by: carder at May 11, 2010 1:45 PMI'll definitely be more impressed with Charlie Crist if he vetoes this stupid bill. Forcing women to look at ultrasounds before abortions is wrong and I'd like to see this awful tactic that state legislatures have been trying to use to undermine national law fail everywhere it's tried.
Posted by: Marissa at May 11, 2010 4:39 PMNo woman is FORCED to look at the ultrasound. She is asked if she would like to see it and she can refuse. Nice try though.
Awful tactic to show a woman the truth about the baby she is carrying. Just awful.

Marissa-
National law that was passed because a lady was coached to lie and later recanted her story. The very least they can do before they kill a womans' baby is ask her if she wants to see a picture of it. When I was expecting for my second child my aunt suggested that I get my tubes tied. So I agreed because I knew my aunt loved me. When my son was born by C-Section I was awake so the doctor wise man that he was held him up so I could see him and in his thick accent asked me if I still wanted to have my tubes tied. Of course I said no and 5 years later Daniel was born. My life has not been easy but it's very very rewarding. Hard choices are just that there hard choices. And some choices women should not have to make by themselves but in the end good choices makes it a lot easier to live with oneself. And if at the end of the day you like yourself then that is a good thing.
Yeah, well Marissa, forcing me to contribute to an abortion fund isn't my idea of fair either.
The vast majority of Americans want the healthcare law repealed AND an even bigger majority do not want to see their tax dollars funding abortions.
But it's all well and good in your world.
Now on to prolife men...
I'm going to add Sean Duffy to that list. He's running for congress, has six kids, and he was on a series of MTV's Real World back in the day.
And I think Todd Palin is worthy.
Posted by: carder at May 11, 2010 6:10 PMYou guys may be onto something, a PRO-LIFE PRO-FAMILY classy calendar (or something similar), "this is what a real man looks like and acts like" not tawdry or promoting lusting after another woman's husband. The men are dressed in a great outfit, maybe having their wives describing how their husband's are great husbands and fathers. Like Sarah Palin describing how Todd supports her in her political career, helps with the children and with housework.
I think it was Dr. James Dobson who said helping your tired wife with the children after she has taken care of them all day, washing the dishes, giving them a bath and putting them to bed, that is called "foreplay". Can I hear an "AMEN" wives?
Posted by: Prolifer L at May 11, 2010 6:35 PMI think T-Shirts would be nice. And it could say Life life's greatest choice! And you could have two toddlers surrounded by baby animals sitting in little lawn chairs with their feet propped up.
