The news yesterday was all about Bill Clinton's outburst against pro-lifers at a campaign stop in Steubenville, OH, February 18.
I agree with Tom at American Papist that...
Most of the attention, I'm sure, has to do with the ongoing prurient interest that folks have in watching Bill Clinton embarrass himself, but I'm sure the subject matter is also gaining a share of the attention.
... if only by osmosis.
Our message went out on every video clip.
Thank goodness David Vogel and friend had the wherewithal to turn their signs toward the audience - and camera.
Also, terminology "choice" or "pro-choice" was never used. Clinton called us "pro-life" twice and said the words "murder" and "abortion" in context together.
Even some newscasters called us "pro-life." View just one example here....
I was surprised no reporter targeted the pro-lifers for disrupting Clinton's speech, but they didn't. The only angle presented was anti-Clinton: angry, off-message, hurting his wife's campaign.
The only down side was having Clinton's untrue "pro-lifers really want to throw aborting women in jail" mantra go out over and over.
Despite that wee complaint, our message went out very well.
Never thought I'd say this but, thank you, Bill Clinton.
Poor Bill, he's so behind the times.
I bet he still says life begins at conception instead of fertilization and that Aurora is something you see in the Northern skies.
Doesn't he know we're anti-choicers now and that the unborn are better known as blueberries or products of conception?
Doesn't he realize that pregnancy is a disease and that we aren't killing babies but ending a gestation?
Doesn't he know that we don't call it "murder" anymore? Instead it's justifiable homicide?
Poor Bill. His age is showing.Posted by: mk at February 19, 2008 11:56 AM
I don't know. It worked out well for us pl'ers, but I think the MSM focused on Clinton because they're Obama's cheerleaders, not Hillary's. Anything that makes Hillary look bad promotes the MSM's agenda to promote Obama...Bill certainly does a nice job. Maybe he's cheating on Hillary again. Not with a female, this time, but with the MSM.Posted by: Anonymous at February 19, 2008 12:10 PM
Barack Obama is the only person in this who understands that. That before we can work on the problems, we have to fix our souls. Our souls are broken in this nation.
~ Michelle Obama, as quoted at an Obama rally, February 15
Anyone out there feel they have a broken soul?
If so, do you think Obamba can fix it?Posted by: Sandy at February 19, 2008 12:24 PM
Obama fixes souls, too?
(uh-oh, I'm thinking "antichrist"!)
"our message went out very well", assuming your message is that "pro-lifers" are a bunch of morons who try to disrupt public meetings and speeches with their publicity stunts.
While opinion vary about abortion, no one outside of the exremist anti-choice crazies have anything but contempt for these idiots.
Pro-chioce organizations should secretly funnel money to these idiots, to keep them making asses of themselves, as often and as publicly as possible, since these morons do more to keep abotion safe and legal than any pro-choice organization could hope to do.Posted by: amused onlooker at February 19, 2008 12:59 PM
You said morons twice.
You said idiots twice.
You said crazies once.
You said a**es once.
That's about all I got out of your post.Posted by: Carla at February 19, 2008 1:08 PM
Hey, speaking of politics...
Jill, tell them about the time you ran in the Illinois State Legislature primary and lost to Renee Kosel - a fellow Republican who opposed the Infants Born Alive Act and who sat on the Advisory Board of Christ Hospital - you know - the hospital that canned you.
Hey, just because you lost in a humiliating landslide doesn't mean you should remain bitter towards politicians. After all, you did win that award from a dead guy this year!Posted by: FetusFascist at February 19, 2008 1:10 PM
Hey, me too!
LOL!Posted by: Anonymous at February 19, 2008 1:11 PM
What is Bill talking about..."real abortion"? Is there such a thing as a fake abortion?
Actually, this video shows some progress made in understanding that abortion ends the life of a human being...Just a month ago Obama and Hillary where throwing darts at each other, competing as to who is most Pro-choice! Now here is Bill arguing that he did more lower abortion rates than any other politician!
Unlike Obama, who says that even children that survive abortion have no right to life or medical care, at least Bill is implicitly acknowledging that abortion is not an ideal...and fewer abortions is better than more.
But to show the true poverty on the left side of life issues...it is "individual rights" that always trump the rights of the "least among us" as Bill ends his tirade.
That was awesome how they interrupted someone speaking to throw their propaganda towards someone that isn't even running but campaigning.
Shameless and lacking tact.....abortion shouldn't even be a political issue...Posted by: PeachPit at February 19, 2008 1:27 PM
.abortion shouldn't even be a political issue...
Abortion shouldn't be an issue at all.Posted by: mk at February 19, 2008 2:01 PM
"Renee Kosel - a fellow Republican who opposed the Infants Born Alive Act"
what kind of monster opposes the born alive act bill.Posted by: jasper at February 19, 2008 2:01 PM

And how do the pro-lifers do more to keep abortion safe and legal?Posted by: Janet at February 19, 2008 2:35 PM
I like your analysis of Bill. Either Billy Graham's preaching got to him, or he's fooling us all. It's hard to tell.Posted by: Janet at February 19, 2008 2:41 PM
I think the best part was when he kept saying "tell the truth!!!".Posted by: rosie at February 19, 2008 3:19 PM
When the likely result of bringing down the Clintons is President Obama, are you anti folks really doing yourselves any favors by cheering at their gaffs? Do you really despise the Clintons so much that you'd rather have an even MORE liberal Democrat in the White House? (not that Barack is all that liberal, but that's a debate for another thread).
I'm an Obama supporter by way of Edwards, who will vote with gusto for any Democratic nominee, so I quite enjoy watching the coalition of ultra-Christians, war hawks, and fiscal "conservatives" (just how did you all live with each other, anyway?) that has been the Republican party for the last decade or so disintegrate. By all means, carry on!Posted by: Ray at February 19, 2008 3:47 PM
Incidentally, thanks for that nice bit of history, fetusfascist. I had not been aware. Always nice to hear it when reason wins over extremism in politics.Posted by: Ray at February 19, 2008 3:51 PM
Ray, you are on the right track. There are LOTS of people who spend lots of time just bashing Bush Jr. or bashing the Clintons. It runs the gamut from believers in elaborate conspiracies to just diehard Democrats or Republicans who'll try and hammer away at whoever's in office from the other party.
At the end of the day, billions of words and tens of thousands of houres are spent on this by Americans every day, and for what, overall?
It's certainly not keeping one's eye on the big picture.

Given last week's spirited conversation about the Vagina Monologues, I just thought I'd ask what you all think about an anti-Hillary group calling itself C.U.N.T.
Do any of you who condemned the term care to step up and volunteer a little hypocrisy by condoning it in this case?Posted by: Ray at February 19, 2008 6:17 PM
I believe it's being used as an acronym in the anti-Hillary camp.
Used in the monologues, it's not. It's the real, deal there.
Now, if the group calls Hillary the "c" word, I think that's disgraceful, disrespectful and just plain out crude & wrong.Posted by: Anonymous at February 19, 2008 6:54 PM
If there is an applicable "C" word for Hillary, I think it's
You're joking, right?Posted by: Janet at February 20, 2008 7:17 AM
Citizens United Not Timid

No need to repeat that Ray, it's disgusting and offensive.Posted by: Janet at February 20, 2008 2:38 PM
