Better not get in their way the choice to have a dead baby brings out the real angst among the pro-aborts. Yes I have friends who have had mentally handicapped children, some did not live very long but they had the opportunity to hold and say goodbye to their babies. I worked in healthcare where we gave these families compassionate, protective care and the families could say good bye to their babies with dignity and were allowed to grieve. We offered them the option of pictures, locks of hair, footprints, dressing their baby, kissing them goodbye and anything else if they wanted it; except we didn't offer to actively kill or mutilate or suck our their baby's brains or leave them in a dirty, utility room like the baby Jill held for 45 minutes while he took his last breaths. I guess we were really cruel and heartless, huh Phil?

Ashley...the situation you described is heartbreaking. But if you compare stories of women who found out their children had no brains or had other defects and aborted, and women who found out their children had no brains or other defects and went full-term you will see that the mothers heal much faster emotionally having been able to HOLD their babies as they die and say hello and goodbye.

The women who abort almost always display immense guilt and anguish. The mothers who go full-term, while grieving the death of their child, don't have that guilt.

Agreed, Sydney. The mothers I know who allowed their children to live until their natural deaths have peace.

There was a little baby born with Anecelphy that lived for just over 3 months after her birth. Her name? Faith Hope! And her mother did NOT abort her, even though she was a single woman. She gave birth to her and has 3 months of memories AND she had her child for a YEAR (counting all 9 months she was in the womb).

Some babies aren't so lucky, they only live a few minutes or maybe an hour or two or if they are lucky, they are able to be loved for a day or two. But they are LOVED for however long they live.

Why deny a child the right to a few moments of love because they are IMPERFECT? I don't see imperfection in the pictures that Faith's mother posted, I see a baby girl, a HUMAN baby girl.

Ashley, I know you have been keeping an open mind lately and so I urge you to watch "99 balloons" on youtube. It touches this very subject. It is a wonderful video made by parents of a little boy who was diagnosed in the womb with a deadly genetic disorder. I think it was Trisomy 18. He lived 99 days. It is a tear jerker but a GREAT video. Please watch it!

I am skeptical of that 95% number.

Plenty of people decline to be tested/screened. So, that 95% is likely a subset of a subset, not of the total.

Thanks for posting the link to baby Eliot's story. What a wonderful tribute by his parents!

I respect any woman's choice to go to term with a terminally ill baby. No one is trying to take that away from her. But why should I be forced to do that? Besides, even many religious authorities approve of inducing labor when the terminal baby reaches viability (say, 6 months) and allowing nature to take its course. If the baby is already viable but will die outside the womb either way, why delay the inevitable? Why force a woman to induce labor at 9 months instead of 7?

I could see why having a "partial birth abortion" or a D&X abortion on a terminal baby would be traumatic, though. You wouldn't even get to hold the baby's body, because it would be either dismembered or have the skull collapsed.

*sigh!* I get SO tired of pro- aborts talking about "perfection". There is only ONE who is PERFECT, and His name is JESUS! I also get tired of pro aborts telling me (that's what they imply when they talk about killing babies with birth defects)that I shouldn't have been allowed to live. Not only did surgery correct all of my 'physical defects', but I went on to give birth later to a 'perfect' (by pro-abort standards) little girl. She was born healthy... at 7 1/2 months, too!

I agree with your last paragraph. :)

The reasoning behind my two friends carrying to term was so they could feel their girls kick as long as they could. They wanted their babies to live and knew that they wouldn't for very long after their birth. You are discounting the strong maternal instinct of a mother already in love with a child and the desire to see that child live as long as she is able to. They found out later on in their pregnancies that there were abnormalities when that loving bond had already formed. Abortion was unthinkable and out of the question for ones the world deemed "imperfect."

One mommy told me she wished she could have carried her daughter inside her womb forever. Where she was safe and growing and alive.

In her comment above, "Ashley" would have us believe, that, late term abortions are, pretty much, all about aborting "defective" foetuses. Oh please, give me a break, It is a statistical fact, that, the overwhelming, number of babies that are aborted, are both, healthy, & normal. And, taking this matter one step farther,..IF, a late term foetus needs to be removed, from a woman's womb, because, it's presents there is dangerouse to the well being, of the mother, I fail to see why, that, sucking out the baby's brains, in this process, is necessary,..I mean, why not skip the "brain sucking" step, & put the baby, alive, into an incubator, instead of putting it dead, into the trash,.? So,..lets get real here,..abortions are, pretty much, about "convienience", & very rarely about "health", & the weakness in the logic of the pro abortion croud is that they cannot be honest about what "abortion" is really all about,..

I don't have a medical background, so I'm not sure if this is something that even happens, but if a baby is truly dead inside the mother, the abortion wouldn't be ending a life but merely removing an already dead baby. I know this happens a lot in early pregnancies w/ "missed miscarriages" but does it happen later in the pregnancy? I'm not talking about diagnosing severe defects that won't allow the baby to survive when born, but the baby actually dying in utero. It seems that in such cases, it wouldn't be wrong to remove the fetus.

Removing the body of a child that has died in utero is not considered abortion. There are women who have labor induced and deliver a child that has already passed away.

In early pregnancies when the baby has died a D & C can be performed I believe it is similar to how an abortion is done but is not abortion as the baby has already died. Somebody feel free to correct me on that.

The sole purpose of an abortion is to kill a living child and remove her from her mother's body.

I've never been in this situation, so honeslty, I don't even know what I'd do. I guess no one knows what they would want (going to term, abortion, etc) until they experience it.

I could see that. The grotesque stories of women pushing babies into toilets at Tiller's clinic were chilling. I couldn't do it. I've never experienced it, but I think it would haunt me for life.

But every woman is different, and I have qualms about the government forcing all of us to go to term, even with no chance of survival for the baby.

True enough, Ashley. The doctors/nurses pressured my friends so much to abort their daughters that they requested that a note be placed on their files to NOT DISCUSS ABORTION with them.

It was heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time as whole families gathered to love on these girls before they passed away.

I have to add that their decisions were based on love and care and compassion. A mother who chooses to have her baby killed before she dies naturally can only be operating out of fear.
Love lets one live until natural death.

Oh and doctors who are prochoice will of course pressure moms and dads to abort their children with abnormalities. Offering no positive guidance for carrying that baby, giving birth, holding, bathing, dressing and loving her.
There are MANY groups and organizations that would love to come alongside of couples facing poor prenatal diagnosis. Sadly, prochoice drs. do not refer couples to them.

Here is one that the doctors suggested abortion. She found doctors willing to support her in her longing to have her child. Who is now a healthy 9 year old.

Ashley...this very situation happened to an old friend from high school. All of her pregnancies (this was her third) were complicated but this time the baby boy had all sorts of "defects" and the docs strongly advised her to abort. She said no, but then her blood pressure shot up so high it could have killed her. They had to induce to save the mom.

The little boy lived 6 hours and then died from his defects and being premature. But the entire extended family was there. Photos were taken, the baby was held and loved and kissed as he passed away. That family will always treasure those six hours.

I think if the mother's life is in danger it is definitely not immoral to induce early. The intent is not to kill the child. I think when you get into "mercy killing" it is wrong. You can say "Well why should I have to carry this child three more months when he/she will likely die anyhow?" How is that different than saying "Well why do I have to continue to take care of my aging mom and dad when they are going to die soon anyhow? Lets just terminate their lives now."

I believe all human life is precious and mercy killing is wrong. Prematurely ending innocent life for the sake of our convenience or emotions is wrong. If we can prematurely end the lives of fetuses who are sick then whats going to stop us from doing that to infants, toddlers...adults?

Oh wait! we are doing that. Baby Isaiah in Canada recently, and of course, Terri Schiavo who was starved to death. Mercy killing is never the solution.

Having been involved in pregnancy loss issues I too can assure you that women who find out their babies are diagnosed with abnormalities are almost certain to be coerced into abortion. This is the mentality of our society. Women who choose to keep their babies alive until natural death are looked upon as being abnormal and some clinics will discontinue care if they choose to continue their pregnancies. Is this is what "choice" is all about?

A chaplain I knew said that women who choose to continue pregnancy until natural death ALWAYS come out with many wonderful memories and know they made the right decision. Women who abort almost always come back with guilt, greif and depression for having made the choice to take their babie's life.

This is a permanent decision that will affect women the rest of their lives. So often the decsion to take care of the problem immediately outweighs the problems women will face after abortion.

I totally forgot about my in-laws friends whose son and daughter-in-law found out their first child had Downe Syndrome. They put so much pressure on the wife to abort she was upset and miserable on top of the anguish of knowing her baby would have special needs! She is staunch Catholic and said NO NO NO NO but the doctors kept telling her she should terminate up until about her 8th month! horrible!
