According to the Washington Post, November 6...
Pfc. Francheska Velez had survived a tour disarming bombs in in Iraq. After a visit home in August, the 21-year-old Chicago resident learned she was pregnant.
Velez arranged for maternity leave, and she stopped at Fort Hood, TX, on her way home.
Velez was among the 13 people killed Thursday at a soldier readiness facility at the sprawling military post when an Army psychiatrist, Maj. Nidal Hasan, allegedly opened fire on a crowd of soldiers. At least 30 others were wounded....
No, according to the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, signed into law in 2004, Velez's little preborn baby was a victim, too. That tragically raises the count to 14.
As described in layman's terms in Wikipedia, the baby was potentially covered by UVVA 3 ways, because the crime was 1) committed on federal property, 2) by a member of the military, and 3) as an act of terrorism.
Two things remain to be seen. First, will the Obama administration allow the Muslim man who shouted "Allahu Akbar!" as he began his shooting spree to be prosecuted as a terrorist?
2nd, will the Obama administration include Francheska Velez's preborn baby as 1 of the victims, as specified by federal law?
This is horrible. They better remember the baby
as a victim,too.
(posting from my iPod touch)
The baby should be counted. Texas also has a law that protects unborn victims of violence.
From NRTL- "Texas: Under a law signed June 20, 2003, and effective September 1, 2003, the protections of the entire criminal code extend to "an unborn child at every stage of gestation from fertilization until birth." The law does not apply to "conduct committed by the mother of the unborn child" or to "a lawful medical procedure performed by a physican or other licensed health care provider with the requisite consent." (SB 319, Prenatal Protection Act)"Posted by: Lauren at November 9, 2009 4:59 PM
They'll have to, won't they? It's the law. I suppose Obama could just ignore it, but the people working the trial won't have a choice. Legally, the child is a murder victim.Posted by: Keli Hu at November 9, 2009 5:29 PM
My prayers go out to the families affected by this tragedy. I would hope the unborn baby would be counted as one of the deceased.
It is interesting that the Texas law indicates that gestation begins with fertilization and not implantation. So many pro-choicers are misinformed and believe that implantation is the start of a new life.
I don't know if Obama will see fit to prosecute the shooter as a "terrorist". Isn't the word politically incorrect according to him?Posted by: Janet at November 9, 2009 5:32 PM
does anybody remember when Barry was so quick to convict the white cop from cambridge, but now is urging restraint for the murder of 13 Ft Hood soldiers? I guess if your name is akbar ukbar mubar muhammoud shiek alberie you get extra points.Posted by: Jasper at November 9, 2009 5:59 PM
You know, whenever people around me are talking about the shooting and mention "13" victims, I correct them and tell them there are "14". As soon as I heard on the news that this woman was pregnant, I immediately upped the toll one more. To me, it's just natural to do so. I'm perplexed why it isn't for others.
If media outlets and the Obama administration keep it at 13, well, they are just wrong then.Posted by: Marie at November 9, 2009 6:53 PM

The Mother Who Brought Down The Fort Hood Killer
Chris Ayres in Fort Hood, Texas
"A police officer and mother of one was hailed a heroine yesterday after it emerged that she almost single handedly ended the massacre at America’s biggest military base."
"Ms Kimberly Munley succeeded in bringing him down by shooting him four times, even after being hit by a bullet that passed through both her legs, according to witnesses."
"General Cone said that Ms Munley’s actions demonstated that an aggressive response to a mass-shooting can save lives. “She walked up and engaged him,” he said."
S A R C A S M A L E R T
When asked to comment on the officer Munley's quick response, B.O. said via TOTUS and relayed thru a Whitehouse spokesweasel that officer Munley behaved stupidly and this was just another example of racial profiling by a overzealous cop trying to prove her manhood.
When asked if he had spoken with the wounded officer B.O. cautioned that we should get all the facts before we make any determinations about the real victim in this incident, Major Hidal Nissan.
In an an overt attempt at selfless peace making, and to foster understanding between fundamentalist christians still clinging to their god and their guns and the peaceful muslims everywhere, B.O. offered to personally facilitate a dialog between Major Nidal Hissan and Officer Munley at a local Mosque in Washington, D.C. as soon as the Hissan recovers from multiple gunshot wounds he received at the hands of the Islamophobic rogue cop.
(Don't you just love activist and advoacy journalism?)
Officer Munley, I don't know if you will read this, but I regret that you had to shoot another human being.
We all know it was a 'righteous shoot' you would have been derelict in your duty as a peace officer if you had failed to take the shot.
We pray that you will fully recover from all your wounds associated with your actions, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
We pray that the Spirit of peace and love will cover you, your loved ones and your friends and that perfect love and peace that passes understanding will enfold you and give you amacing grace, peace, love and joy.
Thank you for honoring your oathe to perserve and protect us and our constitution from all enemies domestic and foreign.
You go girl!

Fort Hood Gunman Had Told US Military Colleagues That Infidels Should Have Their Throats Cut
By Nick Allen in Fort Hood
Published: 5:00PM GMT 08 Nov 2009
Major Nidal Malik Hasan, the gunman who killed 13 at America's Fort Hood military base, once gave a lecture to other doctors in which he said non-believers should be beheaded and have boiling oil poured down their throats.
He also told colleagues at America's top military hospital that non-Muslims were infidels condemned to hell who should be set on fire. The outburst came during an hour-long talk Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, gave on the Koran in front of dozens of other doctors at Walter Reed Army Medical Centre in Washington DC, where he worked for six years before arriving at Fort Hood in July.
One does have to wonder what kind of PC, don't ask/don't tell 'code of conduct' kept someone from reporting Hasan's outspoken opinions from being reported and/or investigated by the Army.
If you do not know what an 'infidel' is, then you probably are one in the eyes of Islam.
infidel= ALL non-muslims.
Ask any muslim to define 'infidel'.
Or better yet go on line and refer to the Quran/Koran.

So ken...how's that about women in uniform? Do you think her bra fit properly as she was shooting? Perhaps if she'd had a better one, she would've "finished the job", eh?Posted by: xalisae at November 9, 2009 7:59 PM
What about right here in my home state of Oklahoma? The bombing of the Murrah Building? The number of victims was said to be 168, but three of the women killed were pregnant, so that means there were actually 171 victims, but the pre-born babies were never counted. Our governor at the time, Frank Keating is Catholic , but I honestly can't remember if he considers himself a Pro-Life Catholic or not. If he does, it makes it even WORSE that those babies were not counted as victims.Posted by: Pamela at November 9, 2009 8:02 PM
I don't think there is an "official" count of victims. Count as many as you want. The Green River Killer, for example, was prosecuted for a certain number of murders, but there were many more victims.Posted by: Hal at November 9, 2009 8:36 PM
Hal, it matters to the people who lost not only their daughter, but their grandchild.
If I were murdered while pregnant, I would hope that my murderer would be charged for both deaths.Posted by: Lauren at November 9, 2009 8:49 PM

"So ken...how's that about women in uniform? Do you think her bra fit properly as she was shooting? Perhaps if she'd had a better one, she would've "finished the job", eh?"
I believe it was Fuzzy Zoeller, a professional golfer, who said women could not drive a golf ball as well as men because their breasts interfered with the abilty to swing the club.
Poor Fuzzy, did he ever pay for offering that little bit of unsolicited politically incorrect information.
1. In an emergency situation, if someone risks life and limb to save my life and my loved ones, I am NOT going to ask them about their sexual orientation/preference, gender, political or spiritual affiliation before I accept their assistance. I will not care what kind of support undergarment they are or are not wearing.
2. If I am lying wounded and the person who is supposed to pull me to safety does not have the physical attributes necessary to effect my rescue because of some pc social experimenting by progessive/liberals in the civilian government mandated they be included in combat service, then I have some major issues with the neer do wells behind the stupid policy, not with the woman who finds herself in an impossible situation because of some stupid social planners blunders.
I do not care if the would be rescuer is male or female as long as they have the necessary attributes to get the job done without putting my life or theirs in greater jeopardy because they are not physically capable of effecting the rescue.
Officer Munley had the skill set necessary to neutralize the threat. She was a good shot, even under intense pressure and she displayed courage under fire. She was wounded in the process but continued to engage the Jew hating mass murderer and serial killer. She shot him four times before she was rendered unable to continue by her own wounds.
What Officer Munley probably lacked was the physical attributes to pull a 200 pound body to safety even before she was wounded.
Most women would not be able to do that, some could. Most men would be able to do that, some could not.
The standard should not be relaxed to ensure that those who are unfit, male or female, are included in combat roles to meet some arbitrary social goals of gender equality.
Other than that you were pretty spot on about how I feel about women in combat.

"Will the Obama administration prosecute for Ft. Hood's 14th victim, a preborn baby?"
I expect B.O. will honor Nidal Hassan for his contribution to reducing the number of abortions and preventing the birth of certain undesirable persons.
If Velez's pre-natal child had survived B.O. would have argued that Hassans intent was to produce a dead baby and to require the child be given aggressive medical treatment would further encumber Hassan's decision to kill him/her.
In B.O.' s hell the 'choice' for a dead baby is the only choice that matters.

Here is the link to a transcript of B.O.'s weekly radio address.
Only one oblique reference to 'civilian' rescuers.
No mention of terrorism, Islam, muslim. Just references to 'violence'.
One would could conclude from reading TOTUS's words that the mayhem at Fort Hood was just the
result of another act of 'random violence'. You know like a drive by shooting in L.A to initiate another new member into the gang.
Maybe Officer Munley had the good sense to request that B.O. not single her out for public recognition. (Real heroes do not require that kind of attention.)
She has, after all, first hand knowledge and experience with the kind of people who are out to kill us and she does not want to put her family or herself at any more risk than absolutely necessary of retaliation from other Jew hating mass murderers and serial killers who are in our midst.

From the transcript of B.O.'s weekly radio address.
"We cannot fully know what leads a man to do such a thing."
From UKPA report;
Witnesses have said they heard Hasan cry "Allahu Akbar" - Arabic for "God is great" - before opening fire at the sprawling military complex,
but senior officials
including Mr Obama
have warned against assuming that Hasan's attack was driven by Islamist fanaticism.
[How about drawing a proable conclusion based on the available information.?]

B.O. may be a fool, but he is not dumb, there fore we can conclude that B.O. is deliberatelly obfuscating....again.

You need to shake the rust off your mental gears.
What does does Rush Limbaugh's alimentary canal have to do the present reality that there are people in this country who hate us and want to kill us simply because we do not 'think' like they do?
Those are the real 'anti-choice nazis' in your midst.
Go find some and try to engage them in a reasoned dialog and convince them they should be more tolerant to people who think differently than they do.
But you should make sure all your affairs are in order and you have made your peace with all your loved ones and the 'ONE' who gives you breath, BEFOIRE you keep the appointment with the Jew hating mass murderers and serial killers.

LifeSite News reports that the Uniform Code of Military Justice (under which Hasan could be charged) was amended in 2004 to include the Unborn Victims of Violence Act. So the law is definitely there. The prosecutors just need to use it.Posted by: Courtney at November 12, 2009 10:26 AM
While I fail to see the bearing of a person's undergarments on the proper completion of their job, I would also like to note that the individual who inflicted the debilitating damage on the murderer was a male security guard. Thank you.Posted by: Gala at November 13, 2009 5:13 PM
