That's us. We're the new media. We find, report, and discuss what the old media, known in the blog world as MSM - the mainstream media - can't or won't.
A citizen journalist using the pseudonym Laura Mansfield incredibly found the most recent al-Quaida/bin Laden video before they were ready to go public with it:
I know many here can identify with Mansfield's blogging habits, outlined in an accompanying September 20 AP story. And if a pro-lifer substitutes the words "abortion industry" or "Planned Parenthood" for "jihadists," one can personally relate what she does with what we do....
Once her son is off to school, Laura Mansfield settles in at her dining room table with her laptop and begins trolling Arabic-language message boards and chat rooms popular with jihadists....
She sometimes spends 100 hours a week online....
"It's really important to understand what the jihadists think and how they're planning on doing things," she said....
She's on the ball, no doubt about it.
Also, if a pro-lifer substitutes the words "abortion industry" or "Planned Parenthood" for "jihadists," one can personally relate what she does with what we do
Or, "pro-lifers" can be substituted for "jihadists."

Yes indeed Bobby. Maybe everyone's on vacation (or spying on Planned Parenthood)Posted by: Hal at September 21, 2007 3:15 PM
"or spying on Planned Parenthood"
hehe... heck, I'd be spying on one right now if there was one worth spying on close to me! That is the extent of the excitement of my life...Posted by: Bobby Bambino at September 21, 2007 3:19 PM
Hal, I was "spying" at a Planned Parenthood yesterday. Maybe I am a no-lifer and not a pro-lifer. (I am just kidding obviously. I was praying there, not spying.)Posted by: Carrie at September 21, 2007 3:53 PM
I just got home, and one of my two air conditioners is not working.
HOWEVER, I just heard, on CNBC, that Britney Spears has been charged with a couple more misdemeanors.
I'll tell you what - there are times when "misdemeanor" is a heck of a word to spell.Posted by: Doug at September 21, 2007 6:28 PM
I bet the Britster gets off easy, and there's a circuit-breaker right in the electrical cord of the air conditioner. Duh....Posted by: Doug at September 23, 2007 12:44 PM
I just would like to point out that the actual definition of "jihad" in Islam has nothing to do with extremism. A lot of it is about internal struggle of good. The media has unfortunately distorted the meaning of it.
Islam is actually very beautiful.Posted by: Leah at September 25, 2007 12:45 AM
