Quote of the Day 10-14-09

People magazine has posted the first photos of pedophile survivor Jaycee Dugard online. The print edition will be available October 16.

Writes People:

After being held against her will for 18 years, much of it in a backyard hell straight out of a horror film, Jaycee Dugard wants the world to know:

"I'm so happy to be back with my family," she tells People.

Now living in seclusion with her mom, Terry Probyn, 50, and the 2 daughters - Angel, 15, and Starlit, 11 - fathered by her alleged kidnapper, Phillip Garrido, Dugard, 29, has begun the slow process of recovery. She rides horses, cooks meals and is thinking of collaborating on a book....

"They live a surprisingly normal life, considering the circumstances," says Terry's stepmother, Joan Curry.

Comments:

This young woman has so much strength. God really helped her through this terrible ordeal. Her strength is amazing.

I've often wondered what she looks like now and for someone that has lived through that hell, she looks amazing. She truly had some strong angels on her side and I'm SO happy for her and her family! May God continue to bless them on this road of recovery.

I just did the math and she had her first daughter at the age of 14. Wow. I cannot imagine the hell she has lived through and am so glad she is surrounded with love. Her smile says it all.

Praise God, Jaycee Dugard is free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty she is free at last. I am praying for her and her daughters. She does not want her girls pictures public to protect their privacy. She sounds like a great mom in spite of what she has been through. Yes, their mother did not deserve to be kidnapped and raped but her girls did not deserve a death sentence in utero in spite of the way they were conceived.

Does anyone know how she was freed?

I don't know much about this situation, but my initial thought upon reading the excerpt was this: perhaps her love for those children, despite the tragic circumstances of their conception, gave her the hope and strength she needed to survive this ordeal.

Carla: she was freed because a Berkley campus officer noticed Garrido behaving strangely. However, the officer told Garrido to come back the next day to the police station. Strangely, he did so this time bringing two young girls with him. The two female officers in attendance noticed the girls interacted in a bizarre manner. I remember reading that one of the girls never looked at the officers when replying but only upwards. They contacted Garrido's parole officer who was certain he did not have children. Garrido was asked to come to the parole office which he did, with his wife Nancy, Jaycee (as Alissa) and the two children. That's when she was identified.

I can't help but wonder HOW this woman will EVER be normal.
One thing that I notice is that she looks very very young - a sign to me that she has not developed properly emotionally.
Adults with deprivation neurosis often look very young.
I also have a friend whose children have been affected badly by divorce and are emotionally immature and they look very young.

Thank you, angel.
Thank you also to all of the people who got involved when something just wasn't "right" with these people.

I imagine the simple freedoms in her life and the lives of her children feels amazing. Maybe not normal(who is?)but certainly happy with what each new day holds. Riding horses and cooking...:)
