Quote of the Day 6-19-10

It's like you've come to this Italian restaurant - do you really want the waiter saying, 'There's this great German place down the block, not sure how much you know about it, but you might like it'?

~ Abortion advocate Christina Page on a "delicate" new strategy of abortion mills offering the choice of adoption, as quoted by the New York Times, June 18

Comments:

Nope. The stakes are higher than the dif between an Italian or German restaurant.

The difference between abortion and adoption is life or death.

If eating at the Italian restaurant was certain to cause the death of one of my family members, this Italian restaurant should be required to tell me about the German place down the block who would allow that family member to live!

What a DUMB analogy. If I went to an Italian restaurant what would I care if the waiter gave me a heads up on a great German restaurant? Maybe I wasn't really in the mood for Italian to begin with but my boyfriend pressured me to eat there!

That IS a dumb analogy. Like she's trying to imply that abortion is a 'casual' decision. No more important than deciding what/where to eat? WRONG!!

I would love to see abortion clinics giving women accurate information and encouragement to consider adoption, but it would present them with a big problem. You make an adoption plan for your child out of love for him/her, to give him/her the best chance in life. It is done selflessly, for the baby. Always, always, for the baby. How can an adoption "counselor" say "it's just a clump of cells" if as she discusses abortion but "give your baby love and protection with an open adoption" as she discusses adoption? The underlying premises are exactly opposite.

I agree, it's a pretty weak analogy, but I have to give kudos to Christina Page for wanting to provide adoption-plan information to women who are coming to an abortion provider for abortion. Some women may be taken aback, but it's a step in the right direction. The NYT article is a good one.

Side note:
(These clinics should be wary of NARAL who may accuse them of being "faux abortion clinics".)

It's a good analogy in that abortion is a business. It makes no sense for one restaurant to recommend another one because it would be bad for business and they wouldn't make money. Just the same, why would an abortion business recommend adoption, if the buck is its ultimate incentive?

What it comes down to is that, for abortion providers, it's not about offering the best option for women, it's ultimately about making a buck, doing anything you can to "make the sale" and convince the woman to buy your "service."

Abortion is a business. It's about making money. They get no money if you put your baby up for adoption, therefore they're against it. In fact, the more newborn adoptions there are, the less money the abortion industry will get. Of course, they will try to make adoption look bad to the women, and try to convince her that adoption isn't an option. They'll try to convince the woman that abortion is her only option.
Anyone who tells women that there are other options will be accused of lying to women, when it's really the abortionists who lie.
