Abortion isn't very funny, as comedian Jimmy Kimmel is learning the hard way.
On June 25 the youth pro-life activist group Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust was holding a Face the Truth event in front of Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, as was their First Amendment right....
"Face the Truth" is pro-life speak for showing the public the reality of abortion via large graphic photos of aborted babies.
While the pro-life protest was under way, a film crew showed up to tape a stunt across the street for Jimmy Kimmel Live, seen weeknights on ABC.
But members of the crew quickly became aggravated by the gory aborted baby-photos and turned two of the hot spotlights on Survivor Ryan Bueler.
In this video, one of many captured by the Survivors, a cameramen states several times he has turned the spotlight on Bueler and his sign because "I don't want to see that," and "The fact is, I don't want to see it."...

After reading your column, I have to ask you one thing: Are you not the least bit disgusted that an organization hijacks the term Holocaust for their own petty political argument? I am a Jew, and it disgusts me whenever any political organization or group uses our memories to advance their cause. I hated it when leftists were trying to claim that President Bush's War on Islamo-fascist terror was like a Holocaust against our soldiers and the Iraqi people we saved from a brutal dictator like Saddam Hussein. It equally disgusts me when a pro-life group abuses its right to free speech by exploiting the horrors my ancestors faced by the brutal evil of Nazism. No one has a right to exploit the Holocaust, no matter which side and which political cause they support. You should be ashamed for supporting that.Posted by: Lawrence at July 14, 2010 7:55 PM
FYI - Definitions of the word 'holocaust':
1. Great destruction resulting in the extensive loss of life, especially by fire.
2.a. The genocide of European Jews and others by the Nazis during World War II
b. A massive slaughter
3. A sacrificial offering that is consumed entirely by flames
Are you sure you didn't 'hijack' the word 'hijacks' in your post?
You should be ashamed for supporting the abortion holocaust.Posted by: Praxedes at July 14, 2010 8:52 PM
You don't have to be pro-choice to be offended the name of a group called "Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust." Actual Holocaust survivors, who had to endure torture, mental and physical, as well as the losses of their friends and family in horrific ways, should not be trivialized in this way. These survivors merely had to be born, and I would bet that many, if not most, of them had mothers who didnt consider abortion in the first place. I would think the only way they could seriously consider themselves survivors of the abortion holocaust would be if their mother had tried to have an abortion and failed.
I'm proud to be pro-life, but I admit I find the name of this group to be offensive.Posted by: Sara at July 15, 2010 6:58 PM
Praxedes: I completely agree, it is the abortion holocaust. More than 50 million lives have been cowardly stolen by abortionists and their supporters. This is the horrendous reality that many people simply "choose" to ignore.Posted by: Cecilia at July 15, 2010 9:18 PM

It may be a holocaust, but can you call yourself a survivor of it if your mother didnt actually try to kill you in the womb? My great aunt cant call herself a survivor of the Holocaust simply because she was alive during the Holocaust. She was never in a camp and tortured, Hitler never actually attempted to have her killed.Posted by: Sara at July 16, 2010 8:20 AM
Sara, I do see where you are coming from regarding the usage in the instance of "Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust." However, I believe the term 'survivor' in this case as well as in your aunt's case (if she was one of the targeted groups living in a targeted area)is appropriate as well.
1. one who remains alive or in existence.
2. one who carries on despite hardships or trauma
If approximately 1/3 of women are choosing death for their unborn children in our country, the remaining unborn children being allowed to live are indeed surviving the abortion holocaust in our country.
But if their mother's didnt consider abortion, they weren't targeted, therefore they arent survivors, right? I mean, just because my mom had the option, or I had the option, doesn't mean we ever considered abortion for one second, so I myself, and my daughter couldn't really be considered survivors since no one actually tried to harm us.Posted by: Sara at July 16, 2010 9:09 AM
I do understand what you are saying Sara and you are causing me to think further on this topic. Do you think if mom is pro-abortion and considers abortion that the child is then a survivor? or only if the child lived through the actual abortion?
Although, I have always been prolife, I was strongly pressured to abort 2 of 3 of my children, one by his father. Does this make one/both of them survivors or does it depend solely on mom's view? I think many prolife women can/are talked into aborting because of pressures from those close to them though. And even if mom stands strong she is stressed during a time when she should most be supported. The abortion holocaust has caused many people to disrespect further disrespect women and children.
My thinking is more like: Even if mom and/or dad won't have/push abortion, our country pushes it through the All About Me Mentality. Planned Parenthood, politicians, medical 'professionals', schools, churches, media, etc., etc. lie and downplay what abortion really is and does to our country. If a prolifer can wade through all of this and still give birth I think that still speaks volumes about survival.
I would never want to downplay the severity of the atrocities that humans have gone through and are currently going through in our world but I also see how our country downplays the atrocity of abortion and wants to push abortion elsewhere as well.
I believe the children currently born in our country are survivors of this pro-death mentality and the abortion holocaust.
You have given me food for thought and I will reflect on your posts. Thanks.Posted by: Praxedes at July 16, 2010 9:48 AM
